Database lookup option in SOA 11g

Hi,
We need to call a database table ( look up table) for getting some information based on some search criteria , with in a SOA 11g BPEL component.
We are considering the following options , but at the same time see some cons too.
1.DB Adapter - select operation
Cons : Not SOAP but making a DB call every time is costlier option. Looking for some caching support.
2. Create an ADF-BC / SDO service on top of table and access it using ADF-BC service in SOA. Now access this using Entity variables in SOA.
This would not create SOAP bindings at the same time we have EO Cache support which would further help increase in performance.
Do you see any flaw in this understanding ?
In Approach 2 above , I see an issue. Would EO caching retain for more than one instance ? As far as I know in ADF BC - EO cache works for each user session. So does that mean that EO cache is refreshed for another instance of SOA ?
Any other ways to do caching apart from ADF BC ?
Regards,
Sridhar.

If you are using DB Adapter, you have to define your web service, with assoicated schema file, in runtime the server will spent time to make sure your message is pertaining to the schema and the service is exposed as web service, in times you will configure the JCA adapter service with performance configurations.
You need to do the above along with database performance tuning, when you use DBAdapter.
But if you use the XSLT database functions it will be using only the database performance tuning only.
Thanks,
Vijay

    orcl:lookup-dvm('ADDRESSCOUNTRYID','COMMON','United Kingdom','RETAIL','DEFAULT')_

    Thans for repsonse.
I understand the duplicate rows dont work in 11g and simply removing it would not make our use case work.
okay here is my requirement :
    My DVM:
    column A____value
    ============
    1_____________A
    2_____________B
    3_____________C
    1_____________D
I want to get both the values A,D when provided 1 as search value. But I understand that this is not possible as duplicate rows are not permitted in dvm.
However I could achieve it using a very slight simple workaround. as below
    Modified the dvm as below
    column A____value
    ============
    1_____________A,D
    2_____________B
    3_____________C
Now I get A,D and in my code I do the parsing and seperating A and D by using some string functions to individually get A and D.
Just one compromise to make is -- users entering values in dvm should enter in a specific way ie, A,D,....so on...so that i can use logic accordingly in my code to break them again.
Hope this helps to any others looking for similar solution.
    Thanks,
    Sridhar.

  • How to deploy wsdl+xsd to database based MDS in SOA 11g

I am going to migrate our soa solution based on oracle soa suite version 10. We are using a file based repository in that solution and it is copied to the server and exposed to the application server as a virtual path.
I wan't to use the MDS instead, but can not figure out to upload all my schemas and contracts !
Any help would very much be appreciated.
    Regards,
    jan

You can put it anywhere you like, just update the properties accordingly. If you put it elsewhere, you will need to update the value of mds.repository in the build.properties file.
You can even update the build.xml to copy the content from SVN or CVS or any other version control tool and create a jar file.
Basically the build.xml is a custom written ant which invokes the Oracle provided ant (ant-sca-deploy.xml) and for deploy action you need to provide a jar as input to the Oracle ant. So it is upto you how you want to manage the files on your machine or version control and how you build a jar out of it and pass to ant-sca-deploy.xml

  • Oracle Service Bus 11g ... caching the database lookup

    Hi All,
I have a requirement where I create a OSB service.
The OSB Service, on every request, performs look up from the database to get saved properties from the table.
These properties in the database table get changed from time to time through an User Interface.
Now I want to minimize database lookup from the OSB and hence trying to arrive to a solution, where the properties are looked up and cached in memory initially. And OSB serves each request by looking up cached information. And on an event when the user changes the properties through the user interface, the properties are looked up and re-cached in memory.
Any help on this is much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Srini

    Hi Srini,
You may leverage the service result caching feature of OSB 11g. For more detail, please refer -

  • IPM 11g Picklist based on database lookup

Is there a way with IPM 11g to create a picklist based on a database lookup? If so how?

Updated/suggestion from Oracle for others who maybe looking for this:
Create a utility that modifies the Application definition using the standard IPM Java or web services SDK. The JavaDoc is located here: [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/apirefs.1111/e12853/toc.htm]
    Using the SDK you would:
    -     Use the LoginService to log into IPM
    -     Use the ApplicationService interface getApplication to retrieve the application you want to modify
    -     Use the Application object to getFieldDefinitions
    -     Use getPickList for the field you want to modify
    -     Add/modify the PickList object as needed
    -     Use the ApplicationService to modifyApplication

  • Changing the dehydration database in soa 11g

    Dear all,
I have a requirement,in which I have to change dehydration database in soa 11g in production environment.
How feasible this is...?..what issues I might fall into??..............and is it not recommended at all??....please throw some light...who have already done it in production.....

Have not tried it ever but following steps should allow you to migrate the SOA schema's -
    1. Create the new schema's in new database using RCU
    2. Shutdown the DB and your SOA domain
    3. Use database export and import functionality to migrate your existing SOA schema's to new database
    4. Start the DB
    5. Change the data-source connection details in data-source files (at $MW_Home\user_projects\domains\<domain_name>\config\jdbc)
    6. Start your SOA domain
This will migrate your in-flight BPEL instances as well. As I mentioned that I have not tested it yet, so please test above once on your dev env.

  • Filter database lookup based on human task (BPM 11g)

    Using BPM/SOA 11g PS3
I have a business case where a field is pulling data from an external table and the user would like to filter the return based on the current step in the flow. For example:
    Database would return: A, B, C, D, E, F
    Human task 1 should show: A, B, C
    Human task 2: A, B, E, F
    Human task 3: C, D, E
    Human task 4: D, E, F
    Human task 5: E, F
The BA would also like the ability to change this (if possible) without us having to redeploy. If I can avoid it, I don't want to hardcode these into the JSPX.
Thoughts on how best to implement something like this?

I was looking into using a business rule and using a decision table. I thought first, could I put the business rule in my task ADF...but then how do I know what task I am on, how do I pull that into my decision table?

  • Migrating Oracle WorkFlow Applications to BPEL SOA 11G

    Hi Gurus,
I am a SOA developer working on SOA 11g projects , My client has a requirement to migrate the existing Oracle WorkFlow Applications to get migrated to 11G , On Googling i got http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/owf2bpel-132189.pdf which was much informative , since i have no knowledge of Oracle WorkFlow Product , i am finding it hard to migrate these applications.
It would be great if some one can post a conversion of OWF to Bpel tutorial or direct me to location where i can find some , which would save a lot of time for me .
    Thanks in Advance
    Vamsi .

    Hi,
While configuring the Oracle Apps Adapter, select the database connection, give the JNDI, then the Oracle Applications Module Browser will appear, make sure you select the correct module here (there will be many like Financials..etc). My suggestion would be, ask the EBS experts as under which module will that API be there ?
If you can get to know under what module it will be there, you need to select that module, and look inside it, it should be there under something like concurrent API's. I have implemented the Oracle Apps adapter many times, so even if you dont find the API, first get to know the container module, then you should be good to go. Also in the step of Module Browser, on the top; you have an option of searching for API's like wild card search etc...
    Hope this helps,

  • Lookup Options in SOA11g.

    Hi ,
I have a requirement to create a lookup like below , and access the same in SOA 11g BPEL / Mediator process.
This Should be dynamic in nature, so that business users can modify / add the lookup values at runtime.
    Level------AppName
    1---------A
    2---------B
    3---------C
    1---------D
    1---------E
    2---------F
From My SOA BPEL Process I have to search for the AppNames for a particular level. For eg : All AppNames for the Level 1 should return me all APpNames at level 1 ie., A,D,E. Please note that Level can have duplicate values as shown above.( ie., level 1 occurs more than once ).
    Solution I initially thought :
    Using DVMS for Lookup.
In SOA process dvm:lookup1M() to accces the same.
However I am not able to do that as in run time when I look up for App Names for Level "1" , it throws me an error like
"ensure the source value is unique for a given source column.'."
If this is not possible then the only way to do this using DVMS is to setup something like the below ( instead like above dvm)
    Level-------AppName
    1-----------A,D,E
    2-----------B,F
    3 ----------C
and now I will have to parse the string A,D,E inside my code to access them individually which is a least preferred way to us.
Dont we have any other options in SOA for doing the same ?
    Kindly help !
    Thanks,
    Sridhar.

Both options shouldn't be used for fast data acqusition:
Option Force Interrupt Mode: Analog Input doesn't use DMA in this mode. Depending on sample rate, this can help to avoid building blocks of data. Even when block size is set to one, the data can arrive in DASYLab in blocks (e.g. 8 blocks at the same time, then a pause for duration of 8 blocks, then another 8 blocks). This is a disadvantage for applications like PID control. Switching the mode to Interrupt Mode can help to avoid building such blocks, depending on measurement hardware and sampling rate. The option shouldn't be used for fast acquisition as the data throughput is much better in DMA mode.
Option Slow Interchannel Scanning: In default setting, on every sample point the hardware is sampling all channels as fast as possible (e.g. 1 µs between two channels on 1 MHz card), so they are sampled nearly at the same time. When this option is on, the hardware uses almost the complete time (98%) between two sample points to scan the channels (e.g. with 4 channels at 1 kHz it is nearly 250 µs between two channel scans). This can slightly increase the accuracy of the measurement when slow acqusition is used.

  • Need Help-SOA 11g File Adapter unable to delete input file and its crashing

    Hi All
    Please find the details below:
    1. We have created a simple SOA composite to Read file from an input directory, archive the file in an archive directory using Inbound File Adapter Read
and then use Outbound File Adapter Write to move the file to a output directory.
    2. File Adapter needs to delete the file after successful read/retrieval.
    3. We are using the "Use Trigger File" for invoking the file adapter. This is a new feature in SOA 11g
    4. Also we are using the option of reading the file as an attachment as we are not doing any transformation in the composite
    Issue Details_
    1. When the trigger file is put in the input directory for the first time, the File Adapter reads the file, archives it and moves it to the output directory
    2. However it does not delete the input file from the input directory and raises Fatal Exception mentioned below:

    Hi,
Using the file adapter, you can poll from multilple locations...
Keep the following property in your .jca file
    <property name="DirectorySeparator" value="," />
While giving the path in File Adapter configuration, keep comma and give the next location....then the file will be picked up from the locations you gave....
    Hope this helps...

  • T4CConnection Error while creating datasource in SOA 11g

    Hi All,
i getting the below error while creating the data source with an oracle database in oracle SOA 11g. I trying to create the datasource in the weblogic console page. The error is specifically coming while testing the database connection.
However, i am able to telnet the database box on this particular port..  Also this used to be a working connection earlier and i am able to create the same datasource from other similar SOA 11g instance...
    the error details are:-

please let me know in case any of you know the fix..

i also used the weblogic jar to do a db ping..  and it errored out with the above error.  however if i db ping from any other app server it works...  below is the success response from another server and the command used..
    [applmgr@g3te2soa lib]$ java -classpath /u01/app/Middleware/wlserver_10.3/server/lib/weblogic.jar utils.dbping ORACLE_THIN apps appsuat abc1.xyz.net:1525:oru1
    **** Success!!! ****
You can connect to the database in your app using:
      java.util.Properties props = new java.util.Properties();
      props.put("user", "apps");
      props.put("password", "appsuat");
      java.sql.Driver d =
        Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver").newInstance();
      java.sql.Connection conn =
        Driver.connect("jdbc:oracle:thin:@abc1.xyz.net:1525:oru1", props);
is it some netwrok issue..  but why is then the telnet working for the same server on this port ????

  • Buttons not showing up for Writeback option in OBIEE 11g

    Hey guys,
I'm struggling with the writeback option in OBIEE 11g.
I've made all the required changes as per the documentation.
    1) Making the column writeable in BMM layer.
    2) Giving the column and the table read/write permission in the presentation layer.
    3) writing the query in the xml for insert and update and have put it in the right path.
    4) Modified the instance config and included the <Lightwriteback>true</Lightwriteback> in it.
    5) Enable the column with writeback property.
6)Enabled the table view property with writeback.
However when i untick the table toggle mode,it makes the column editable but without any update button.
whereas if i tick the table toggle mode it neither makes the column editable nor does it shows up any button.
Could somebody help me out with the solution.
    Thanks,
    Anirban

    Anirban,
You need to make sure that 'Write Back to Database' privilages have been correctly setup for you. If you have admin rights on the catalog, you should be able to check and modify it under Security > Manage Privilages on the Administration screen.
    cheers,
    Adnan
