Database password change
Hello,
Can someone point me in the right direction in regards to changing the OIM database password on 9.1.0.2?
We recently changed the password and I updated the xlconfig.xml file and updated two XML files located in the project domain using the method described in the below article:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/admin_ref/utils17.html
I copied the output generated and edited the <password-encrypted> node in the XML files.
We are running WebLogic 10.3.3, on 10g database, 9.1.0.2 BP14 installed.
OIM starts up though we get a System Error message but a refresh brings up the login page. After attempting to login the following error is recorded in our log files:
ERROR,14 Feb 2012 08:49:45,138,[XELLERATE.WEBAPP],Class/Method: tcLogonAction/execute encounter some problems: Error occurred during login - Exeption Code: DB_READ_FAILED
Thor.API.Exceptions.tcAPIException: Error occurred during login - Exeption Code: DB_READ_FAILED
I presume it has to do with the password change but I have changed every file that I am aware of. Have I missed a step or missed a file? Is there a preferred way to change the database password within WebLogic? The UI doesn't allow it due to the encryption and I don't want to turn that off to clear text.
Thanks,
Andrew
To change the database password, there are only a couple spots to update.
Within WebLogic, you'll want to update your JDBC resources with the new password on your two connections listed.
Then as you mentioned in the xlconfig.xml file, you'll find the sections for the DirectDB. Where the password is at, set the encrypted=false and provide the literal of your new password. Now when OIM starts, it will re-encrypt the xlconfig.xml file, so you can delete the one with plain text.

ORACLE Password Change using APEX FORM
Greetings!
I would like to find out, if there is a utility or a sample page that permits the Database password changes for the DB users within the Database. My goal is for users to maintain password using the Browser, instead of using SQL*Plus or similar Windows tools
Thanks in advance for your help!
MuniSo if you and I can both authenticate to this application, we will necessarily have separate accounts, say in the Application Express account repository of that application's workspace. Our accounts will each have a password that is not synchronized with our database account password. The application will allow me (SCOTT) to change only the database account named SCOTT and will allow you (VIKAS) to change only the database account named VIKAS. That rule would make it unnecessary for the provided form to provide an input field for the database account name (it would be pre-populated). Unfortunately, the chosen authentication method requires each of us to remember our application password, and, if the application is built correctly, to remember our old database password as well. (Implementing that verification has its own issues.) If the application used LDAP then a mapping table would be needed to relate [email protected] to VIKAS. Every time a new database user needed the self-service password facility, a new user account (and a new password), and a new mapping table entry would have to be created. All of that complexity is eliminated if the application uses Database Account credentials authentication -- a new database user is created, the user can authenticate to the application and use it; the database user is removed, the user can no longer authenticate.
Let's not confuse the aim of providing a self-service "change my database password" application (the original requirement) with the simpler task of providing a super-user-oriented database account management page (like we did in XE).

How to monitor user password changes for users in a database.
hi All,
can someone please help me.
I need to audit the user password changes in a database. Ive check the auditing but audit " alter user " doesnt audit the changes in password and ive also checked the select * from sys.user_history$; view but didnt find anything useful. So is there a way to trace who changed the password and when ?
Thanks for the help. You need something along the lines of http://www.morganslibrary.org/reference/ddl_trigger.html
or you need to disallow ALTER USER to everyone and write your own PL/SQL and instrument logging the changes.

Senior Oracle DBA -
Hello friends,
In my company there are a lot of users who access an oracle database to do their daily work. Often they need to change their password. Instead of using SQL Plus, is there any way for a user to change his database password using a browser or something. ?
thanks
sanYou don't need any internal Oracle functions. As a privileged user, create a function like:
CREATE FUNCTION expire_soon (p_days IN NUMBER DEFAULT 5)
RETURN BOOLEAN
AUTHID CURRENT_USER AS
l_res NUMBER;
BEGIN
SELECT 1 INTO l_res
FROM user_users
WHERE expiry_date <= sysdate + p_days;
RETURN TRUE;
EXCEPTION
WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
RETURN FALSE;
END;Then, grant execute on the function to PUBLIC. You could create a public synonym for the function, or simply use owner.expire_soon when you call it.
As part of your application login procedure call the function. If it returns TRUE, then prompt the user to change their password and either do:
ALTER USER user_name IDENTIFIED BY newpassword;or create another procedure to encapsulate the command.

RBACx Encrypted Password Change Utility
Hi all,
In the OIA/SRM installation guide, there is a reference to a tool, to find out the password of rbacxservice.
"Oracle Identity Analytics utilizes an encrypted password when communicating with the database.
To change the default database password, use the RBACx Encrypted Password Change Utility"
Could you please help me finding out this tool.
Many thanks in advance.
Warm regards,
Manipradeep Sunku. The mentioned tool only encrypts the password so that you don't have to store a plain text password in the config file. It does not decrypt it. The default rbacxservice password is rbacxservice.
The tool does not come with the OIA/SRM distribution so if you need it, you will need to contact support. -

Password Change on MSSQL Server, now no Connection to Workspace
Hello,
our IT-Department changed the password to login to the MSSQL Server. Now i cant login to Workspace or Financial Reporting. The Error message says the the GSM Service on Port 1800 cant be reached. The Services are marked as started.
I have already used the Configuration Utility and the Service Configurator, there is a tab called database where you can change the login credentials. But i still cant login.
There is a note below which says:
Note: Database properties are tied to some startup scripts and configuration files. If you make any changes on these properties you should change those related files per hand.
Which Files are meant ?
Where else is the password stored ?
What else can i do to check if the GSM Service is running ?
Thx for your help
I forgot to say we use an 9.2 enviroment on win2k3 servers.
Edited by: Kevin Kraft on 01.10.2009 08:39Hello,
i talked to support an they gave me the advise to restore the old password to get services running and then do the following steps:
Changing the Services Repository Database Password
When you change the password that the services use to access the repository database, the order
of steps is critical. Carefully read all instructions before performing them.
Caution!
Make sure to change the password in Workspace before changing it in the database. If you
perform the steps in the wrong order, you may lose the ability to run Workspace.
➤ To change the repository database password:
1 From RSC, select Name Service, Repository Service, or Event Service.
2 Click Show item properties, and select the Storage tab.
3 Change the password and click OK.
4 Repeat step 1 through step 3 for all Name Services, Repository Services, and Event Services with the same
database account, making certain to enter the same password for each one.
If these services use different database accounts, perform this step only for those that use the
account whose password you are changing.
5 Close RSC.
6 In LSC, click Show host properties, and select the Database tab.
7 Change the password and click OK.
This password property (like the other properties on the Database tab) applies to all LSC services
on the local host, all of which use one database account.
For more information about LSC, see Chapter 8, “Configuring LSC Services.”
8 Repeat step 6 and step 7 on every host that contains LSC services, making certain to enter the password
the same way each time.
9 If you are using the same database for row-level security, change the password for row-level security from
the Administer module.
10 Stop the Reporting and Analysis services.
11 Change the password in the database, making certain it matches the password entered for Reporting and
Analysis services.
12 Restart the services.
This procedure can also be found in the file hsadmin.pdf which is the Workspace Administration Guide.
My Problem is the IT-Department cant restore the old password, so i fear i have to reinstall the services :(.
thx for your help

LDAP User Password changing...
Hi all,
We use windows AD LDAP server for central user administration..
I am trying to change the password of my own in the portal server..how can i do this ?
When i see the password change option in Useradmin/identity management under All data sources, i can see 1.LDAP
2.UME Database
Can i just choose LDAP and Click "Generate New Password " ?
I would like to know exact procedure to change the password..( no matter what the password policy is )
Please help..Appreciate your time and will be rewarded with points if helpful.
Thanks!
Addy> There are standard UME configs that are set to read/write and readonly. The name of the config normally has it as part of the name - readonly or writeable.
Where can i check the UME config settings to LDAP ?
> If your LDAP product doesn't have a web based frontend,

How do you make sure the LDAP product's password rules are enforced?>

From Portal side, how do i check if the LDAP rules are being enforced or not ? If it is not, then i can raise a question to LDAP Admin. And i cannot send a request to change the password for me everytime i want right ?
Any good docs on Portal with LDAP ?

Raja SHi,
You changed the password in J2EE instance , however maybe the change didn't go thru into the Database.
You need to change the database password, check this link

Backup jobs and password changing problem
Hi
I have created few rman job in my db (11.2) to backup database.
I my company i have to change all system passwords (os - oracle, system, syman, etc...) every 90 days.
When i changing password for user who created backup jobs, this jobs stop working.
I,ve got "Invalid username and/or passworderror writing input to command" error.
Of course after changing passords i always setup "Preferred Credentials" but that dosn't help.
What am i doing wrog? What am i missing ?
Please advice. If you use Preferred Credentials to authorize a Job, it will use the current credentials on the moment it is dispatched for execution.
This means that in case passwords changes, you just need to modify you preferred credentials
This is something you can do using EMCLI (command line interface) in a script for instance (or just use the GUI to modify)

Password change timestamp attribute in OID 10.1.4???
It's been suggested to me that release 10.1.4 of the OID would include a timestamp attribute that is updated every time the user changes their password. Does this exist? I know that the modifytimestamp attribute gets set everytime the user changes their password, but this won't work for our purpose because we also have a batch job that pushes account information changes to our OID from a Human Resources Department database, and this batch job can cause the modifytimestamp to be changed.
Hi,
you can easily implement this by adding a new objectclass to your users and defining such an attribute "pwdchangetime", in that objectclass.
Now, to populate that attribute , you will need a post-modify plugin (java plugin). The plugin will run after each successfull password change operation and will update the attribute for that user.
For an example on how to create such a plugin:

Hello!
We are running SAP ERP system on MaxDB 7.8.02.034.
For some days we are detecting that all the password of database users such as control, superdba and sap<sid> have been changed.
Questions:
1) Is the any possibilities to see when and by whom these changes were made?
2) What is the easiest way to turn back all the password changes?
Many thanks! You could consider setting up auditing.
