Database resgister with listener

Hi,
can one or more databases register with single listener?
if we want to create second listener in the server then does we need to change port number or can we use default port number? please help me.
thank you!

Does it mean for different databases does we have different port numbers?The port is used by the listener, not by the database. One single listener, with the default name of LISTENER, listening on one single port, is quite capable of - was designed to - service multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. Trying to create multiple, separate listeners for each database instance makes as much sense as the telephone company building separate switchboards for each customer.
Pavan's example showed you how a single listener could listen on two ports. Further, it showed how the single listener could have static registration of two instances. There is nothing in that configuration that would bind a database to one of the ports.
The database doesn't even use that port. Only the listener uses it (well, that and the client placing the request on that port for the listener to pick up). Once the listener gets the request, it spawns a server process to talk to the client, and assigns that connection (between the client and the server process) to a different port. Once the server process is spawned, the listener (and its ports) is out of the picture. You could even kill the listener and all existing connections would carry on, totally oblivious to the loss of the listener.

    I am not sure but I think scott user is maybe locked by default.
    The problem to verify that is that I can't connect no more to oem, I only could the first time after creating CHUCKY database with emca .
    Connection refused, my computer doesn't make a listen on theses addresses, it only made a listen on it the first time I had created database.
    I don't know to reactivate it .
    http://localhost:5500/em
    http://localhost:1158/em
    iSQL*Plus HTTP port number =5560
    Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (test) = 1158
    Enterprise Manager Agent Port (test) = 3938
    Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (chucky) = 5500
    Enterprise Manager Agent Port (chucky) = 1830
    So I don't know exactly what the problem is oem is no more accessible so I can't change permission or reactivate scott user and it is said permissions denied when doing sqlplus as sysdba.

  • OEM Problem in Communicating with Listener

    Dear all,
    for some reason, my OEM is corrupted and when it's enabled, it messes up with the listener. I concluded the problem lies in OEM rather than in the listener since I can establish connection between SQLdeveloper and the server via the listener without any problem.
    I have instance named INARA, host named FIREFLY.SNOWDROP.COM, and listener named ORACLE_LISTENER.
    I closed SQLdeveloper application and its listener and started OEM first to pinpoint the problem. After I started OEM, the Management Service log emoms.log dumped:

    Hi SyBrand,
    sorry if you got impression that I'm ignoring pointers that you gave me. I assure you that I'm trying to use the pointers that everyone gave to me and I really appreciate it.
    I'm still learning how to get familiar with the database, read the log file, troubleshoot the problems, and get familiar the whole concept, that's why most of the time I receive wrong message from everyone, most often I detect them incorrectly.
    Ok, so far what I understand is I have a database resides in the server, a client, and a listener. The client, in this case, OEM is connecting to the server via listener. In my listener.ora configuration, there are 2 listener configuration, LISTENER and ORACLE_LISTENER. In the client side whose description is in tnsnames.ora it has inara as client service name, which should be matched with available listener either with LISTENER or ORACLE_LISTENER.
    one of the log file that says connecting to 192.168.1.5 is because it implicitly translated firefly into its ip address which is 192.168.1.5.
    Also I double check both files as you suggested before listener.ora
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: /usr/local/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/network/admin/listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    ORACLE_LISTENER =

      (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
        (DESCRIPTION =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = firefly.snowdrop.com)(PORT = 1521))
    ADR_BASE_LISTENER = /usr/local/oracle
    ADR_BASE_ORACLE_LISTENER = /usr/local/oracletnsnames.ora
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: /usr/local/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    INARA =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = firefly.snowdrop.com)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVER = DEDICATED)
          (SERVICE_NAME = inara.snowdrop.com)
    LISTENER_ORCL =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    ORCL =
      (DESCRIPTION =

          (SERVICE_NAME = orcl.snowdrop.com)
    LISTENER_OCA11G =
      (ADDRESS_LIST =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = firefly.snowdrop.com)(PORT = 1521))
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
      )service inara in tnsnames.ora is consistent with LISTENER or ORACLE_LISTENER.
    How can I associate local service name inara with OEM client? BTW OEM client and database reside in the same host firefly.

  • Grad student needs help with Listener

    I am doing my Masters project on Distributed Database and am trying to connect 4 database to one listener on one machine. The first two appear to connect OK as listenermral and listenermrny. But the next two keep on giving me TNS-01150 errors-address of specified listener name is incorrect. Fedora is free and Oracle has given it the thumbs up. Plus there are tons of docs available, from installation to trouble shooting. I would go with Fedora, especially since it won't hurt your budget.

  • Problem With Listener Service: Long Delay Starting Listener, Intermittent Connections

    I am having trouble connecting to my Oracle database.  I'm not sure what the cause was, but now when I connect to a database that has been working fine for the past two years, I usually get a ORA-12541 error.
    I run lsnrctl status on the server and get a prinout like this:
    Copyright (c) 1991, 2010, Oracle.  All rights reserved.
    Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=dqaswn02)(PORT=1521)))
    TNS-12541: TNS:no listener
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
      TNS-00511: No listener
       64-bit Windows Error: 61: Unknown error
    Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=EXTPROC1521)))
    TNS-12541: TNS:no listener
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
      TNS-00511: No listener
       64-bit Windows Error: 2: No such file or directory
    I've also tried manually stopping the service via services.msc and then restarting via lsnrctl start, but when I do this I get a really long delay (10+ minutes) before it returns with something like:
    TNS-01153: Failed to process string: 0í≈♥
    I'm pretty lost as to what is wrong.  I've been messing around with listener.ora, but I don't see anything problematic in there.  Here's a copy:
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: E:\app\myc0714\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    # ADR_BASE_LISTENER = E:\app\myc0714
    LOG_FILE_LISTENER = LISTENER
    TRACE_LEVEL_LISTENER = SUPPORT
    TRACE_FILE_LISTENER = LISTENER
    However, a few times during this I've been able to connect to the server, via sqlplus, but it has taken 10 minutes before the connection comes online.  Once I'm connected, I can query my tables as expected, but I need an application to connect.
    If anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong, please let me know.

    When I opened up netca, I didn't have any listeners configured, which seems very strange.  When adding it, I get this message in the cmd window:
    Oracle Net Services Configuration:

    I killed the service via services.msc again and tried starting the lsnrctl.  This time I've got a new listening service going:

    I just tried starting the trace.  I'm waiting for it to connect, I guess.  I'll post anything I get out of it when it returns.

    This makes no sense.  You don't configure a listener nor a tnsnames.ora "in a database".   I hope this is just a language issue and not reflective of a fundamental misunderstanding of how tns works.

  • ASM Instance registeration with LISTENER

    Hi,
    For the purpose of Oracle Security change, I wanted to add SECURE_REGISTER_LISTENER = (TCP) to the listener.ora file. Then, I need to stop and start the listener, and to get the database register with the listener, I am supposed to do ALTER SYSTEM REGISTER;
    My question is:
    How will I register the ASM instance with the listener, please?
    is it same like registering database,i.e., ALTER SYSTEM REGISTER; while connecting with sys / as sysasm? will the ASM INSTANCE register dynamically?

    The Oracle documentation has a good overview of the options available
    Generating XML Data from the Database
    Without knowing your version, I just picked 11.2, so you made need to look for that chapter in the documentation for your version to find applicable information.
    You can also find some information in XML DB FAQ

    how can i solve this error?
    thanks,
    xwu.

    I am only assuming things, but it might be worth to look closely if you were experiencing an ORA- error during the execution. This could have caused a rollback and thus closed the cursor. Please check the job log, the workprocess trace (dev_wX file) and the system log SM21 and ST22 as well.
    Besides that check the oracle alertlog and the usertrace destination.
    Best regards, Michael

    We are using bw support package 19 early this month. Previously is working fine but this problem occured from the last 2 days.
    We are using MaxDB database.
    Really appreciate any speedy responds.

    Hi,
    We finally resolved the issue.
    The solution:
    We check the RFC connection test in SM59. There are connection error.
    There is an error that related J2EE_ADMIN user.
    SO we reset the J2EE_ADMIN id in SU01.
    The problem goes away.

  • Database selection with Invalid Cursor error in RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ

    Hi Everyone.
    I am using RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ Function module for reading data from a multiprovider.
    Logic of the code is as following
    while <more data>
    CALL RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ reading data in E_T_DATA
    Append lines of E_T_DATA to EO_T_DATA.
    If total lines of data in EO_T_DATA > 200000
    <save EO_T_DATA in a file using GUI_DOWNLOAD>
    <clear EO_T_DATA>
    EndIF
    EndWhile.
    As soon as number of record exceed 200000 first file is saved, but after that next data call results in error.
    Error says "Database selection with invalid cursor".
    I suspect that this because of call to FM GUI_DOWNLOAD. While calling this FM after RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ causes system to commit and again the cursor is tried to open in next call casuing it to fail.
    But it is imperative for me to save data in file at regular intervals as data volume is huge.
    Any pointers in this direction will be helpful.

  • How can I use an Express database build with RAA in Express Objects???

    Hello, everybody!
    I have installed Express Server and Client on my computer. I've build an Express database With Relational Access Manager mapping data from an Oracle database.
    Now I want to use this express database in Oracle Express Objects.
    I understand that an express database build with understand can be used by defining a connection to Express Server and using the option Relational Access Manager Connection.
    But, I didn't understand the settings of this option. I open the settings window and there it is :
    - the MASTER DATABASE Box where I have to write the name of the CUBE from the express database build with understand?
    - the RDC File Box : what do I have to write here? I've read the HELP but I didn't understood. There is no file with the RDC extension in my computer.
    Thank you for your help!

    you can extend it, very easly, with an Airport Express.
    once you connect the AExpress, on the App Airport Utility, in Wireless tab choose to "Extent a Network", you will be able to select your Network enter your Network Password and it is done
    i have 2 AExpress to extend my signal and also to Airplay to Remote Speakers and works perfectly
    good luck
