Database Stuck

Periodically our 8.1.7.3 Oracle Database enters a "state" where a single process runs at 100 percent of one of our four cpu's. When this happens, I can not gain access to sqlplus to find out what sql is running or what is causing the problem. From server manager, I can connect internal, but i cannot run any selects to determine what is going on inside the database. I must do a shutdown abort to get everything down. From HP-UX I can determine the source of the application, but nothing specific about the connection itself. If I kill the process, the database unlocks..goes on, but in a short time, I experience the problem again. If i shutdown the database and restart it, it will be on average 24-48 hours before it happens again. We are running HP-UX 11.11 I have no oracle errors in the alert log.. I am really stumped, and any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have 8.1.6 on Solaris with various different applications. Our oldest applications are forms 4.5 character mode accessed via a terminal emulator. We have found that if a user closes the emulator without exitting the form they leave a rogue process which gradually consumes more CPU until it sticks on 100%. We solved the problem by writing a unix daemon to periodically kill these off. It indentifies them by searching a ps -ef listing for processes containing f45run and a question mark in the parent process column.

  • HELP  iPhoto database stuck

iPhoto & Aperture database stuck on 'processing' for days. Measage preparing thumbnails.  Tried to cancel  but just keeps processing and I can't use either app.
    Any ideas?  Thanks

aperture is says 507 left to process  and it seems to be going down by 5 a day at most.
That looks like you have imported media that simply cannot beprocessed and iPhoto and Aperture are stuck trying to process these items.
Quit Aperture. See my User Tip
If Aperture is unresponsive, how to avoid force quitting?
Ten try to open Aperture again, but this time with the Shift ⇧ key held down. This will launch Aperture, but defer the generation of preview images.
Can you get Aperture to launch without hanging and processing?
Then have a look my User Tip:

  • Cannot open the database, stuck in mount mode

Someone please shed some lights on this problem.
I ran into some media failure, and ended up restoring the database from the offline whole backup.
The database is in the nonarchivelog mode (I know, it is not good), so there is no archive log files and
restore database is the only solution.
    . startup mount
. restore database <== ran ok
. ALTER DATABASE CLEAR LOGFILE GROUP 1 <== ran ok
. ALTER DATABASE CLEAR LOGFILE GROUP 2 <== alter failed
ORA-01624: log 2 needed for crash recovery of instance orcl (thread 1)
Alter failed with group 2 and 3 because one was CURRENT,
    and one was ACTIVE.
    SQL> select group#, sequence#, members, status from v$log;
    GROUP# SEQUENCE# MEMBERS STATUS
    1 0 2 UNUSED
    3 189 2 CURRENT
    2 188 2 ACTIVE
I also tried 'alter database open resetlogs', and got:
ORA-01139: RESETLOGS option only valid after an incomplete database recovery
I don't think I can recover the datafile since there is no archive log file here.
Besides, if the restore database ran fine, why did I get SYSTEM01.DBF datafile needs media recovery message?
Right now, the database is in mount mode, and I cannot open it. How do I solve the problem with
ALTER DATABASE CLEAR LOGFILE GROUP for group 2 and 3?
Any suggestion? Thank you for the input.
The database is 11G running on Window.

I would think the cold backup ran successfully. Here is the backup record:

  • SQL 2012 database stuck in Recovery Pending status

Hey all.  Thanks in advance to anybody that can please help me.  I have a SQL cluster which ran out of disk the other day.  I threw plenty more disk at the SAN.  However, 1 of the databases came back with Recovery Pending and has been
over 24 hours.  I have tried to backup the database with no success.  I don't have a clean backup from the day it occured so would have a good amount of work missing.
Running a dbcc check returns the following:
    Msg 945, Level 14, State 2, Line 1
Database 'sqldb' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space.  See the SQL Server errorlog for details.
I have not tried a dbcc check with REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS as there seems to be a high risk of losing whatever was going on.  Does anybody have an idea of how I can get the db back online?

Just a note... the database is not in Suspect mode, it is in Recovery mode.  If there is a transaction in process, attaching and reattaching may or may not trigger the transaction to complete.    The answer would be different if the database
were in suspect mode.  The fact that it is now in CHECKPOINT shows that there is an incomplete transaction.  Once back online, a backup can occur and the CHECKPOINT can resolve.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/110139?wa=wsignin1.0
Seems to me this is more like a case where the database is in log ship mode.  In that case, the solution is relatively simple (this is not what needs to happen... it simulates what has happened):
    RESTORE DATABASE MyDB WITH RECOVERY
    USE master
ALTER DATABASE MyDB SET OFFLINE WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
    ALTER DATABASE MyDB SET ONLINE
    RESTORE DATABASE MyDB WITH RECOVERY
I don't believe you want to rollback anything though.  As you state above, the big trick is to bring it online.
I think you can get it into Single User Mode and then from there, restore the diffs and the logs after backing up the tail, then restore the tail and put it back into multi-user mode.  Given the difference in opinion here, I am feeling a little gunshy.
    RESTORE DATABASE [MyDB]
    FROM DISK = 'c:\MyDB.BAK'
    WITH MOVE 'MyDB_Data' TO 'c:\data\MyDB.mdf',
    MOVE 'MyDB_Log' TO 'c:\data\MyDB_log.ldf'

  • Database stuck in backup mode after unplanned restart.

    Hi All,
Maybe someone can help i am looking to see if there is a Oracle paramater that will kill a backup if the system is restarted or stopped during a baclup.
    John

    There is no such parameter.
If you are still using user managed backups (which
    you shouldn't)
you'll need to recover your database when you abort a
backup, or shutdown the database during backup. That is not correct.
See documentation on the END BACKUP Clause:
After a system failure, instance failure, or SHUTDOWN ABORT operation, Oracle Database does not know whether the files in online backup mode match the files at the time the system crashed. If you know the files are consistent, you can take either individual datafiles or all datafiles out of online backup mode. Doing so avoids media recovery of the files upon startup.
    * To take an individual datafile out of online backup mode, use the ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE ... END BACKUP statement. See database_file_clauses .
    * To take all datafiles in a tablespace out of online backup mode, use an ALTER TABLESPACE ... END BACKUP statement.

  • Upgrading Mail Database stuck after Migration/Yosemite upgrade

Decided to move a user profile from my old iMac with Mac OS X 10.7.5 to a newer MacBook Pro with 10.10.2. Everything seems to have moved over just fine except Mail. I have what looks like a frozen status bar for the last day that says "Upgrading your Mail database... This may take a few minutes." I finally force quit it, rebooted and reopened Mail only to find myself with the same status bar and no visible progress. The old mac's Mail was version 5.3.
How can I best move my mail over?
I was considering restoring from Time Capsule except that wouldn't work restoring from the old computer when the new one hadn't backed up yet. Should I try deleting the user profile and re-migrating?

  • Repairing Library Database stuck at 100% complete

My Library repair has been stalled for almost 24 hours at the "100% complete" stage for over 24 hours.
In Activity Monitor, however, Aperture is cruising along, bouncing between 350% to 550% CPU%.   Library is Aperture 3.2.4, and I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
My Library is fairly large (2.98 TB on a 4 TB internal HDD), and I'm reluctant to force quit given the amount of time spent on repairing (about 36 hours total).   Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Gordon

    Great!
    So for our statistics:
"My Library is fairly large (2.98 TB on a 4 TB internal HDD)"
will need three days - 1 TB per day - congratulations for your patience!

  • SQL Server 2012 restoring database from backup file

    Hi All,
    1. I was restoring the database from PROD box to DEV box with the deferent name.
For Ex: Both PROD and DEV boxes are having "A" database. Now I am refreshing database"A" from PROD bot to DEV box with name "B". Now while restoring in SQL server 2012 I used GUI and took database name as "A" by default.
by mistake I executed the request. before completing I notice that "A" database in DEV Box went to restoring mode.
Now, in middle I stopped the query but still I am seeing database "A" is in restoring state.
Please guide me is there any way to bring database online with current data?
    2. Why sql server 2012 takes tail log backup of the existing database while restoring database with different name?

  • Why does captivate 5 scorm 2004 change the pass/fail status when using complete/incomplete

SUMMARY:  I am trying to use SCORM 2004 reporting but I am finding out ADOBE does not diffentiate between COMPLETE/INCOMPLETED and PASSED/FAILED variables in the SCORM 2004.
RESULT: I can not accurately get the passing/failing status from the course.
QUESTION: Is their anything I can do or does ADOBE have a patch they have release which will accurately report the passed/failed STATUS as well as the completed/incompleted status.
OTHER RESEARCH: I even attempted to post these "proofs" on scorm.com and they have something called "SATISFACTION TRACKED" to accomodate content creation systems (CAPTIVATE 5) which does not follow the standards of SCORM 2004.
BACKGROUND:  the report status "Incomplete/Complete" and "Pass/Fail" under the publishing options for SCORM 2004 essentially mean the same thing when the CAPTIVATE COURSE sends setvar commands to the SCORM API...  In other words the SCORM API receives the same exact commands when publishing in both modes.  "THIS IS WRONG"
why is the wrong?  IF REPORTING; incomplete/complete ;  the CAPTIVATE 5 COURSE SHOULD NOT "change" the STATUS OF PASS/FAIL when attempting to report COMPLETE/INCOMLETE with 100% slide views.
    DEMO #3> SHOWS THE PROBLEM
About DEMO #1 and DEMO #2> these are other reporting options I attempted with other problems arrising..so these images are just for supporting my original problem which is shown in DEMO #3...
DEMO 1 (REPORT STATUS has no affect on reporting):SETTINGS:
    PASS: (PROBLEM)
Anything above Passing Score is not recorded to LMS (once passing is reached...no more bookmarks are recorded)
    FAIL: (CORRECT)
Failure gets sent to the database on the last screen with "completed"
DEMO 2 (Report status  [Complete/Incomplete  Pass/Fail]   has no impact on commands sent to scorm api):
    SETTINGS:
    PASS: (CORRECT)
Very Last page gets sent to the Database
    FAIL: (PROBLEM)
NOTHING GETS SENT TO DATABASE (stuck in final score screen forever)...because it says "INCOMPLETE"
    DEMO 3:
Report status [Complete/Incomplete Pass/Fail] has no impact on commands sent to scorm api
    SETTINGS:
    PASS: (CORRECT)
Very Last page gets sent to the Database with a 90% passing with "completed"
    FAIL: (PROBLEM)
LAST SLIDE SENDS "completed" but GETS SENT AS A PASSING SCORE??? even when it is a failure
(IN OTHER WORDS ADOBE CHANGES THE PASS/FAIL STATUS based on slide views...
this is WRONG ....REALLY WRONG becuase I am trying to report
    "COMPLETE/INCOMPLETE" for 100% slide views
    PASS/FAIL OPTIONS:
    OPTION I CAN PURSUE?
SO WHAT CAN I DO?  YES, I CAN TELL THE LMS...to COMPARE THE SCORE RECEIVED DURING A "COMPLETE" status...and then change the grade in the LMS based on the SCORE IN THE LMS...BUT THAT WOULD MEAN THE LMS COULD REPORT ONE GRADE and the COURSE COULD REPORT A DIFFERENT GRADE....and that would not be good.
ALL OF OUR COURSES SHOW THE STUDENT THE FINAL SCORE WITHIN EACH COURSE..
    QUESTION TO ADOBE?
SO ADOBE when are you going to differentiate these two reporting options so that the PASS/FAIL OPTIONS ARE ACCURATELY REPORTED WHEN USING COMPLETE/INCOMPLETE?
    MORE INFORMATION
HERE IS THE SCORM.COM "Satisfaction" adjustment (very last line) to accomodate inconsistent reporting in CAPTIVATE 5.

    CAPTIvATE 5 cmi.completion_status
and cmi.success_status does not work independently with scorm 2004.  they both share the same definition.  These two field were designed to help differentiate the difference between a passing or failing score and when the course is actually completed.   WITH CAPTIVATE 5 they do not differentiate the two.  COMPLETE means PASS and INCOMPLETE means fail..
I was trying to use "completion_status" as a way to determine when all slides were shown.  So that I can send the final score (PASS/FAIL) the LMS after all slides were viewed and this was the absoluted score the student recieved.

CAPTIVATE SCORM SUCCESS_STATUS COMPLETE STATUS SHOULD BE INDEPENDENT

    Hi,
Here's something I found in a similar situation... hope this helps!
After publishing your CP5 project as a SCORM 2004 zip file, unzip the file so you can get into the separate files.  Open the imsmanifest.xml file with a text editor; I like using Notepad++.  Search for the line starting with <imsss:minNormalizedMeasure>.  The complete line will probably look like <imss:minNormalizedMeasure></imss:minNormalizedMeasure>, this is the line that is supposed to contain your passing score (at least for our LMS).  So, if your passing score is supposed to be 80%, edit this line to be:  <imsss:minNormalizedMeasure>0.80</imsss:minNormalizedMeasure> and save the file.  Then select all the files and re-zip them, I use 7-zip for that.
I found one other weird thing that doesn't happen 100% of the time, so test it.  In the example above, try to get a score of exactly 80% (or whatever passing grade you are using) and see if you get the correct status reported.  I found I sometimes have to re-edit that line in the manifest file to be 0.79 so it correctly includes an exact 80% score.  No idea why and you have to watch the number of questions in your quiz to make sure that works for you mathematically.
If this works or not, I'd recommend posting your results so others can get some ideas.  Good Luck!!

  • Multiple Series Cluster Barchart locks up HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER DB sessions

I am trying out cluster barcharts. I had a cluster barchart with two series. If I have no ORDER BY clause on the SELECT statements, the chart displays, but the bars are not clustered together correctly. I want all the bars from series #1 together and the bars from series #2 together ...
When I put an ORDER BY clause on the SELECTs in the two series, no chart is rendered. The chart region is blank. The problem is that the session connected to the database locks up/freezes. I refresh the page and now I have two sessions connected to the database stuck. When I refresh enough times we are unable to run HTML DB. The sessions run until they fill up TEMP tablespace. (I do not know why. The table they are running against only has 9 rows.) I had to go into the database with SQL*Plus and kill the sessions. Once these HTML DB session were killed, I was able to connect to HTML DB.
    Questions
    1) Is this a known problem with cluster barcharts?
    2) How do I cluster the bars for each series together?

    Hi
I am installing the Netweaver 7.01 SP3 and have already removed it completely after getting stuck at the same installation step. Do not know what is going wrong. I know when einstalling it has to be removed completely which I did using uninstallation and then clean up tool. But again it is stooping at the same step. I had let it run more almost two days but of no use. My system configuration is good enough with 2GB RAM etc.

    Thanks in advance

Guess you are talking about sapinst.log file. Below are the last few lines after which it did not proceed
Do see the last step create DB schema....... The previos log was from sapinst_dev.log
Oliver I have a doubt could it be becuase of the host name.
The host name of my machine is "skumar278-1" with DNS domain name for SAP system "asiapac.globalcsc.net"
Could this be the reason for the problem i am facing i.e installation getting stuck at phase 13 Create DB schema.... Other than this I cannot see anything else which can go wrong.. Do have the DHCP server available..
The page file as per the ram settings i.e for 2 GB should be 3072 so I have set it to the same. Though
    the prerequisite page shows
"For the selected services at least 7138 MB swap space are recommended. Current value: 2851 MB. (Updated 2005-06-24)"
    Can this be the reason???
Also I just looked at the services file.. there are about about 4-5 different files with the name services .3 services.4 ...  services.5 etc als there is no entry for port 3900 3600 & 8000.. .. do not know what to do... Please suggest..

  • I've been unable to use mail in Mountain Lion because it is stuck updating the database

    Hi,
I installed Mountain Lion yesterday and i didn't have much time to try it till today in the morning... When i tried to open mail it started a wizard for a kind of migration or conversion to the new mail app. The point is that i have the same screen with the same advance since the morning and it hasn't changed at all. So it is obvious to me that it is stucked. I have tried restarting the system but it does the same every time. I have been waiting for hours now and i'm afraid i would not be able to recover my mail. (The image above is in spanish, but it shows the step in where mail is supposed to take some minutes to update the mail database... I have hours on that same point, and tried about 3 times)
By the way, i can't also open Facetime and messages. Both apps crash inmidiately after trying to open them and ask for restart. In this screen i collapsed the details available for the crash
Any body else with this problem? Any Ideas?

    Thanks, davidhk129, cracksman, and colakid.
I thought it must be so, as I've seen zero problems from the installs themselves, but it's good to be sure.

  • Messages Stuck in Submission Queue after Database failover to DR site

    Hi Everyone,
Yesterday Night we had a Database failover to DR site but emails were stuck in the submission queue to resolve we failed back the Database. We have Exchange 2010 SP3 Ru4 with Active-Active DAG across 2 AD sites.
After checking the connectivity logs on the Transport server i found out that the Transport server was trying to connect to the mailbox server where this database was residing directly instead of using the Transport servers in the 2nd site.
We have 4 more databases on the same server but for those databases there was no issues and the mail flow was working fine.
Only thing i checked is that we have about 700 GB of log files for this database. Could that can cause this issue.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
I did not restart transport service. I assume restarting transport service might have resolved the issue.
But, i want to know the reason why this happened as we have stretch DAG so this can cause major outage in case more mailbox database fails over.
Removing the logs files is what i am thinking to do maybe within this week.

  • I'm having trouble uploading my macfamilyTree 7 database to iCloud. It seems stuck on 6 %

I'm having trouble uploading my macfamilyTree 7 database to iCloud. It seems stuck on 6 % I can see the storage value has changed in iCloud on my devices but I cannot see my upload or access it.

I have this problem as well and the MacFamilyTree developers have been unable to help.  It appears to be related to the media attached to a family tree.  If you have a family tree without any media attached then it will upload without any issues, however more than around 5MB of files seems to stop this.  The file size in icloud appears correct but according to mft 7 the upload is still taking place.
    If anyone has any suggestions....

  • Creating database using DBCA stuck at 85% for about 7minutes~

when i create DB using DBCA , it stuck in 85% for a long time ,and the a waring appears

refer to the log file at emConfig.log for more details
so i checked the log file, and i find this:

starting emctl dbconsole takes about 7 minutes. and it still failed
some guy say it might a bug ,and can fix it using a patch.
in order to use the patch wizard ,i must login to the em. but i cant open it. and also , i dont have metalink account.
also ,there is another error , when i use emctl start dbconsole ,
it says an instance fo oem 10g Database Control is already running
then i use emctl status dbconsole
but it says EM daemon is not running .
    my os is RHEL 5.3
and oracle version is Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86
    so i was totally confused....
so ~ if possible give me a reply~ really appreciate~

    hello,
You can just create database without EM dbconsole and later you can create EM repository manually. Now if you have already configured it and you don't want to repeat the process then you can do this
    To Create
$ emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create
    To drop
$ emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
    To recreate
$ emca -config dbcontrol db -repos recreateRegards
