Database to windows/Excel?

Hi. I urgently need some help. I need to make information from an Appleworks database available to a Windows user. Is there a way to export that information to an Excel spreadsheet or workbook? Is there some other database program for PCs that I can export to? I assumed I could just cut and paste from the list view to a spreadsheet, but this garbles information. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

I'm doing this from memory, so if this is a bit off, it's close --
I don't know of a more direct way to get this done.
1.) The first thing you need to do is "save as..." ascii text. This will give you a tab-delimited file.
2.) Still using AppleWorks, go to the File -> Open dialogue. In the bottom left portion of the box, it says document type (something like that)... use the pop-up to select Spreadsheet. Change the box on the right to "All available" (I think the default in this window is AppleWorks)...
3.) Now select the text file you saved in step 1.
4.) Your database should open as a spreadsheet.
5.) To manually re-arrange the order... click on the column header (A, B, C... etc) to highlight the place you'd like to put a column of data... then use shift+apple key + I to Insert an empty column.
6.) Click on the header of the column of data you'd like to move, copy... paste into the empty column... etc.
7. You can go back and Delete the column you just copied from... or delete the data and reuse the space for other data.
This can be a lot like doing a puzzle! but if you plan your "moves" in advance, you can re-arrange your columns fairly quickly.
The nice thing is, you can "Save as..." an Excel file when you're done.
Hint 1: save frequently... I do after each Insert and Paste operation.
Hint 2: yes, you could use cut-and-paste instead... by copying, you can visually confirm that the data you moved is complete, aligned with the correct row, etc. THEN delete the data from the original location.

  • How to import database created in Excel to appropriate fields in a PDF form?

I am trying to use Database created in Excel to fill multiple PDF Visa application forms.
The fields in PDF forms are basically the same except the order of appearance on the
form could be different. However the field names remain the same in all PDF Visa Application forms.
    Can anyone make me wiser?
    Appreciate all suggestions.
    Sajith Panduka

If you export to a tab delimited format and the first row contains the exact field names of the fields in the form (order doesn't matter), then you can import a row of data into the form using Acrobat. You can also automate the process using JavaScript in Acrobat.

  • Can't open xls file created by windows excel

when i try to open a xls file created by windows excel, my numbers (3.2.2) tells me that " 'file name' cannot be opened' please help, thank you!

ack, this whole thing is frustrating. I can create new .numbers documents, save them as Excel documents, and those resulting .xls documents will open fine. HOWEVER, if I grab an old .xls document from a time machine backup (over a month ago), I cannot open it. Nor can I open an newly saved .xls document saved from the same original .numbers file.
It would seem that the only thing I can do now is take those old .numbers files and copy/paste the content into a brand new .numbers file. After saving as, the resulting .xls files open fine (with the usual "import warnings", but I'm used to those )

  • Can we install oracle 10g database on Windows Vista Home Edition?

Can we install oracle 10g database on Windows Vista Home Edition?

You didn't specify which Oracle10 Edition.
In the case of SE/SE one/EE, with a paid license Supported has a mean impact on production environments with paid licenses, since you wouldn't run on an unsupported platform facing the risk of being left without technical support from Oracle in case of an emerging issue.
For the XE Edition, this is not a certified combination, since the only certified editions are the Business, Enterprise, and the Ultimate editions, but you can try it, you don't have nothing to loose, supported, certified vs. unsupported in this case makes no difference since this XE is not supported either way (no patchsets, no bug fixes, no technical support from metalink), just an AS IS free software.
On the license agreement terms displayed when you download the XE software it states:
    "No Technical Support
Our technical support organization will not provide technical support, phone support, or updates to you for the programs licensed under this agreement."
    and
"THE PROGRAMS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE FURTHER DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS AND IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE."
In case someone would be able to win a trial against oracle due to damage from the use of this software, the amount paid at maximum is 1,000.00 USD, not enough to even pay the lawyer's lunches.
For the XE users the primary source of 'kind of support' is the oracle forums, either the installation forum, the general database or the specialized XE forum.
Of course if this is for your own personal use for learning and testing and there are no third parties you could damage by doing this and if you don't have a paid license for this installation you may try it, but don't expect the Enterprise Manager to behave as defined by the manual, most of it won't work since the Home Edition doesn't have the privileges required for EM to work.
If this is your personal computer and when you bought it the computer provider installed from factory Home Edition, and if you want something to work there, you can try to install a Virtual Machine and install Oracle 10g on a supported guest OS.

  • Database login windows when using DataSet ( CR2008 )

After executing this code, I get a database login window when using a DataSet, wondering why I am asked for user/pwd when using DataSets.

Thanks Jonathan for the tip. I tried it before and after the setDatabaseLogin call yesterday, but got the same results. I'm still going to follow your suggestion because that makes more sense.
Turns out it was the configuration of my ODBC/System DSN that was causing the problem. I reconfigured the System DSN by clearing the check box to provide username/password and now I don't get the Database Login anymore.
I found a different blog post that answered the OLE DB issue I was seeing where the DatabaseName was coming up blank:

Haven't tried it yet and probably won't because I got the Viewer to work with ODBC the way I like it.

  • How to rename oracle9i database in windows 2000

    Hi All,
I am trying to rename an oracle database on windows 2000. I am having some issues...can anyone help me how to fix it.
Trace file is created from existing database (ORCLDB) using alter database backup controlfile to trace
and the following steps are followed....
Modify (and optionally rename) the created trace file:
Find the line reading # Set #2. RESETLOGS case
Remove all lines above this line.
Change the line containing the database name from CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "ORA9" RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG
    to
CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "CAT" RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG
Note, in my case, the database is running in noarchive log mode. The corresponding line reads ARCHIVELOG otherwise.
Remove the line reading RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE.
    Remove lines starting with #.
the edited .trc file is saved as rename.sql
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "NEWORCLDB" RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG

  • Command line to reinitialize cms database in windows

Pls adv if there is any command line that I can use to reinitialize the BOE cms database in windows ?
I wish to automate the housekeep process to clear away all the previously created folders/report-objects in InfoView. Is there anyone with any ready to use scripts or steps to show how it can be done ?
I am running BOE XIR2 in Windows 2003 server. CMS used Oracle 9.2 as database.

    Hi Sptong,
Reinitializing the CMS DB will effectively delete everything, folders, users, groups, and you will be left with a new install basically.
Is that what you want to do? I can't see how this could possibly be a maintainence task?
There is no command line way to do this. If that is what you want to do... Then from the CCM you can stop the CMS, right click properties, go to the tab with the connection info on it and modify the connection. There you will see 3 options 1 which will reinitialize the CMS DB. Remember to most customers this would constitute a production down and 100% loss of data. I'd back up your DB first.
    Regards,
    Tim
Yes. That is basically what I wanted.
For our application, we do not published the report into InfoView. We used the InfoView scheduling facility to 'generate a final PDF file' to a report repository. We store the reports else where. Hence, the InfoView folders will get messy after some period. Hence, we need to housekeep the folders by deleting everything, leaving a new install basically.
We know the manual steps. Just wonder if there are some command line / scripts that we could use to automate the process.

  • How to install 10g database on windows with db block size 16k

    Hi,
Can somone help me install oracle 10g database on windows xp with db block size as 16k.
i need this database, because it is one of the recommendations for insalling OWB(Oracle Warehouse Builder).
    Thanks,
    Philip.

    1)     In Initialization parameter pile
    DB_BLOCK_SIZE=8192/16K - One way
    2) The other way once you install Oracle 10 G then at the time when you are creating database with Database Configuration Assistant – you can modify the block size by the[b] Initialization parameter screen.
    -     Sizing Tab
    Block Size 8K/16K
*** Remember by default Oracle 10 G uses 8K block size.
You use the options on the Sizing tab to configure the block size of your database
and the number of processes that can connect to this database. The Block Size setting corresponds to the smallest unit of storage within the Oracle database. All storage of database objects (tables, indexes, and so on) are governed by the block size. The block size defaults to 8KB, but you can modify it. Once the database is created, you cannot modify this setting.
The maximum and minimum size of an Oracle block depends on the operating system. Generally, 8KB is sufficient for most transaction-oriented applications, and larger block sizes such as 16KB and higher are used in data warehouse–type applications.
The Processes setting specifies the maximum number of simultaneous operating system processes that can be connected to this Oracle database. You must include at least six processes for each of the Oracle background processes. You can increase this number on the Initialization parameter screen.
