DataGridView designing layout with datasource

Question

Hello,
1) I created a DataSet with several columns.
2) I have bound this DataSet as DataSource on a DataGridView.
3) I have set the only table in my DataSet as DataMember.
Now my DataGridView shows the columns in this table, and this works perfectly fine. I can change the properties/style of each column (text font, background color, columns width, etc.)
But the problem is, when I unbind my DataSource (by accident or on purpose), and then I bind it again, ALL of my settings to these columns are completely gone, and I have to redo them all.
Is there a way to handle this? Or is this just the way it works?

It works that way because you're basically auto-generating the columns when you bind your DataSet as the grid's DataSource. Once you unbind, the grid doesn't know what happened to those columns, so all the settings go away.
To avoid that, you have two options:
1) You can put all the code you're already doing for setting up the columns in one method, and call that method every time you rebind the grid.
2) You can add the grid's columns manually, either in the Designer or programmatically.
