Is X-windows and GUI desktops supported on the ODA "engineered system" running a RAC database?  If it is, what is the yum command needed to install the X-windows, Gnome, and KDE package groups?

While I agree with the direction of the suggestions with installing packages for X-windows, we do not have a blanket 'apply any package' recommendation.
In particular we do not support altering the kernel (although we do have exceptions which we review on a case by case basis).
Basically, if the you want to alter functionality that would not impact core functionality you are usually fine.
A good guideling is : The more dependencies that there are between the package / rpm you are considering using the higher the potential impact on functionality - meaning higher chance for problems
Note: We do use VNC including Real and Tiger regularly , but we have no hard recommendation on how you may want to use X-windows. I have never seen a limitation other than comments on bugs
or incompatibility within the X-window product itself with certain kernel levels.
Patching may overwrite some packages that you may install, however,  _depending on packages/rpms added_ there is also the possibility that you will break existing functionality to the point
that patching itself will fail ( we have already seen a few cases of this in which case the proper mitigation is to remove / roll-back any alterations to the ODA before patching, and then adding the packages/rpms
back after the patching is completed.
From what you are discussing the impact should be low without conflicts, but please consider the above, and if you have specific packages which you consider potential problems
please create an SR so that we can review packages / rpms on an individual basis.
Once again: the main criteria for not supporting rpms is regarding the kernel itself

  • OS command needed

    Hi SAPStars,
In XI File Adapter, we want to generate empty file after processing the message  using OS command.
The empty file have to be generated in specific path..
what is the command that we need to fill in for this purpose?
I have used OS command Touch <file-name>
It says OS command executed successfully but dont know where this file getting created I wanted the file to be generated in specified path...
Do anyone know, how to create a file in specified path?????
    Thanks in Advance.
    Harikrishna

    Hi Hari
I think for using UNIX Touch these are the alternate commands i found.
    touch [  -a ] [  -c ] [  -m ] [  -f ] [  -r RefFile ] [ Time |  -t Time ] { File ... | Directory ... }
-a     Changes the access time of the file specified by the File variable. Does not change the modification time unless -m is also specified.
-c     Does not create the file if it does not already exist. No diagnostic messages are written concerning this condition.
-f     Attempts to force the touch in spite of read and write permissions on a file.
-m     Changes the modification time of File. Does not change the access time unless -a is also specified.
-r RefFile     Uses the corresponding time of the file specified by the RefFile variable instead of the current time.
Time     Specifies the date and time of the new timestamp in the format MMDDhhmm[YY], where:
    MM
Specifies the month of the year (01 to 12).
    DD
Specifies the day of the month (01 to 31).
    hh
Specifies the hour of the day (00 to 23).
    mm
Specifies the minute of the hour (00 to 59).
    YY
Specifies the last two digits of the year. If the YY variable is not specified, the default value is the current year.
-t Time     Uses the specified time instead of the current time. The Time variable is specified in the decimal form [[CC]YY]MMDDhhmm[.SS] where:
    CC
Specifies the first two digits of the year.
    YY
Specifies the last two digits of the year.
    MM
Specifies the month of the year (01 to 12).
    DD
Specifies the day of the month (01 to 31).
    hh
Specifies the hour of the day (00 to 23).
    mm
Specifies the minute of the hour (00 to 59).
    SS
Specifies the second of the minute (00 to 59).
    Thanks

  • The web photo album command needs some improvement

First I'd like to thanks for the
    web
photo album command embed with Dreamweaver. My job requires me
create photo albums with thousands of pictures, it saves a lot of
    time for me.
Now I'd like to ask someone to improve this fuction. I need
to click the thumbnails on the index page to pop-up a window that
show up the detail picture page (If I can key in the pop-up window
size in the command UI will be perfect). Currently this album
generator only links to the large picture's page. I need to make
them to a pop-up window for each manually (thousands of them).
    I tried
    Web
Photo Album 2.2 for Dreamweaver 8 and MX 2004, V2.2.6, it
doesn't have this function either. Compare to the web photo album
command in Dreamweaver, it can't generate filename to caption in
the detail picture page automatically (You can key in captions in
    Fireworks manually though).
If someone can improve the web photo album command to pop-up
window available, I think use "close window" link instead of the
link to the album index page in the detail picture's page will be
    helpful.

  • Post Script 2UP trayswitch Command need

    Hi friends,
I am a fresher in post script file printing. I need a command for postscript 2UP trayswitching for xerox printers. Please help me.

PostScript is a programming language, and a PostScript file is a program. So editing is entirely possible, if you are prepared to spend the time to learn the programming language in detail.
I can tell you that this fragment means nothing by itself. The names w, x, L are not part of the PostScript language. They will be procedures defined above. A program can take a lot of unravelling and understanding, even for a very experienced PostScript programmer.

All files are regenerated if changed.
That goes for the .java and the .class files that are created. The jsp server checks to see if the current version is the latest. If it is, nothing gets changed or recompiled. If things are different, programs are recompiled.
Youll notice that if you have a new jsp it always takes longer the first time. Or even when you change a jsp, the first time takes the longest for the page to come up in a browser. This is because of recompiling.
    Does this make any sense?

  • Unix Command Needed

I would like to format a SATA drive that is connected with a USB adapter, but I am unsure how to do it without overwriting my internal drive.
    diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 200G "JHFS+" 4-Linux 30G "MS-DOS FAT32" 4-Windows 0b
The command above was copied from another forum. I couldn't remember if it has a typo that needs to be fixed (0b to 0G?).
I assume that disk0s2 needs to be changed, but I cannot figure out what my external drive would be named. Please advise.

    diskutil resizeVolume disk1s3 200G "JHFS+" 4-Linux 30G "MS-DOS FAT32" 4-Windows 0b
    Thanks, that worked perfectly!
This worked, but I now see that UNIX was not needed to make it happen. I'm stumped why so many forums regarding triple booting a Mac don't use Disk Utility instead of UNIX. Not to mention, I found one that had bad syntax, and I had to keep searching to find one that worked.
The Linux partition was formatted in Mac OS Extended Journaled. Linux must be able to see the partition when installing, and then it probably reformats to a non-Apple scheme before installation begins. Since it cannot be mounted by OS X when booting into X, it may be defaulting to ext3 format. In Disk Utility, it shows up as disk0s3, and it is grayed out.

  • Fiber problem - special commands needed on switch???

I have single mode fiber connected between a 3560 and the 4506.
I am using the ZX (long distance - big bucks) modules.
I installed a -10db attenuator between the two pieces of equipment
    My issue
When I do a no shut on the port, the green light comes on the gbic of the 3560. The it goes off and the port goes into err-disable
Is there a special command you need when connecting SM fiber?

I had a similar issue last week between all my 3550's and our core 6513 switch after a sever power failure. Like you the light on the 3550 would go green for a few seconds and then err-disable. When I debugged the 3550 I found that the interface was having a 'linkstate-flapping' issue that caused it to err-disable itself. I ended up having to turn off speed negotiation at both ends of the link and manually shutdown and enable the port on the 3550 to clear the err-disable state. I then configured the 3550 to automatically retry the link every minute if it ever goes to the err-disable state again. I guess the first step to solve your issue would be to monitor the terminal on the 3560 and see exactly what error it is returning when it goes to err-disable and move from there.

  • Unix command needed to search alert log

Hi. Im trying to search the alert log file to see if there is any thing related to the checkpointing process.
Specifically Im looking for anything that includes "Checkpoint not complete".
If anyone knows the command for searching the file in UNIX for this then please post here!
    Many thanks
    DA

    Hi Dan,
"Checkpoint not complete".In UNIX try: http://www.dba-oracle.com/op_unix_16_cat_grep_commands.htm
    grep "checkpoint not complete" /u01/app/..../alertSID.log
    In Windows:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_windows_alert_log_script.htm
I e-mail myself important alert log messages, using this technique:
    http://www.remote-dba.cc/oracle_tips_table_alerts.htm
Also, you can read the alert log from SQL, if you want:
