DataProcessor generating XML containing special ampersand, equals sign etc

Hi,
Using 10.1.3.3.3
I am using the BIP API's to generate reports for an application, but have a problem where the DataProcessor is generating XML containing ampersands and equal signs '&', '=' from the database.
The characters are causing the FOProcessor to throw and exception when reading the generated XML:
oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Expected name instead of .
08/08/06 12:12:22 at oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLError.flushErrors1(XMLError.java:320)
If I remove the '&' and '=' the PDF is generated successfully.
It is not pratical to convert these characters as part of the queries (40+ tables times x columns).
Is there anything I can put in the data template or config to get it to properly escape these characters when generating in the XML data?

Hi,
I'm generating xml from my relational database tables using XSU. I'm having a problem where my table column contains data with the ampersand symbol as in 'Black & White'. XSU generates my xml but i can't parse the generated xml till i convert the '&' to '&'.
Is there a way to tell XSU to encode these symbols in the generated xml? I would like to avoid storing the encoded data in my relational tables like 'Black & White'.
I'm using the XDK for PL/SQL for Unix 9.2.0.3.0 on Oracle 8.1.7.3.
I would appreciate if someone could help me out with this issue.

Generated XML doc file contains comments from MFC source code

Hello, in my project I use the option /doc to generate XML doc file from my source codes but unfortunately in the output XML file there are mixed also comments from original MFC source codes, see the part of generated xml file:
Is there a solution to ignore these MFC cpp files?

Based on your issue, could you please tell me how you use the option /doc to generate XML doc file from your source codes?
If you use the option /doc to generate the XML doc file by right-click the your MFC project->Properties->Configuration Properties->C/C++->Output file->set the Generate XML document files as Yes(/doc) like the following screen shot.
(1)If yes, since we could not reproduce your issue in mu side, so if possible, I suggest you could share me your MFC project so that we will further help you support this issue.

Generate XML - Special Character in data causing error

Hello,
I have a procedure written using DBMS_XMLGEN to create xml output. A problem that I am running into is some of my data has an eacute in it. How can I code the XML to account for this and any other weird characters that may exist?
(ie - i need to be able to specify the encoding part of ?xml version=1.0 encoding=ISO-8859-1?)
Here is an excerpt of what i have so far...the results are fine until I run to include the data with the eacute. Then nothing is generated at all. I tried .convert, but I don't know if that's what I need, or if I am calling it correctly.

No. There are no XML components that will clean up malformed XML. Your options are to go to whoever sent you that document and tell them that their XML is malformed and that in future they should not do that, or to write your own component to clean up the malformed XML. Since that would involve more work than writing a full XML parser, I don't recommend the second option.

I have a few large documents written in word 2003 format and now I work on them under word 2007.
Such large documents containing lots of special characters. I want to change them into Microsoft 3.0 equation form（It is required by the team). I find no way but using function AddOLEObject and Sendkeys through VBA. Common characters can be added
to equation by function Sendkeys, but the return value of Asc() or AscW() for "double arrow", "in" , " not greater than " such special characters or signs, to name but a few are the same ,i.e., 40 And I cannot distinguish them.

Generating XML from database

I'm a total newbie in XML DB and need advice on generating XML from database.
The situation is the following: there is a legacy web application which uses an XML document as a configuration file. This document conforms to some well-defined schema. For instance:

It contains portions of static data which are common for all users as well as dynamic personal data.
Dynamic data comes from two sources:
1) security considerations (for instance, not all widgets are available for some users) - thus the "master" configuration content must be filtered, but not otherwise modified;
2) user preferences (for instance, user can set widget2 to be opened by default) - thus values of some attributes must be different for each user. When the user saves her preferences, the entire document with new values is posted back to server.
We want to try to store user preferences, apply security and generate personalized configuration documents using XML DB.
So we need advice on storage models and generation procedures - which should be more efficient and easy to support or extend.
Please note, that there is no requirement to actually store data as XML.

Problem with the deleted instance of the subform in the generated XML

Hi
I have a dropdown and it has 3 values in it and I have 3 subforms(min count=0, max count=1).
Based on the selection of the dropdown
If value is 1, I am adding an instance of subform 1
If value is 2, I am adding an instance of subform 2 and deleting the instance of subform 1
and so on.
This functionality works fine.
The question is when i generate XML using "submit by email" button, the generated XML also contains the tags of the subforms which are not present in the form and got deleted. They appears as an empty tag in the xml which i do not want in that file if that subform instance got deleted.

Hi,
As you know the binding is set in the Object > Bindling palette. You can't change the binding using script at runtime, therefore if objects have a binding Name/Normal or Global, then they will participate in the XML data processing.
I don't think you can change this in LC Designer/Acrobat. You might be able to process the XML file once you have received it.

Generating xml from oracle 10g with BLOB image

I have employee table with id(primary key), firstname,lastname
and I have portrait table with id(secondary key from employee table),image (blob)
portrait table store images of the employees which are in the employee table.
I want to generate following xml output

and save this xml as id.xml into a particular folder in the c drive and generate such xmls for each and every row of the emplyee table...
e.g. if i have 200 emplyees with id as 1 ,2 ,.....,200 and their respective portraits into portrait table; then I want to save these as separate xml files with the names 1.xml , 2.xml , .....200.xml inside a folder say : C:\temp...
Any help is highly appreciated

I like using XMLElement/XMLForest to build the XML as it gives you the most control.
In the first example on Marco's website, you would just use dbms_xslprocessor.clob2file to write each file out to disk with a CURSOR FOR loop instead of doing a single OPEN/FETCH/CLOSE. The cursor would return two columns, employee.id and the generated XML. The filename would be based on the "id" column returned by the CURSOR.
Assumption: The machine that Oracle resides on has the "C:\temp" directory that you want to write to. You cannot use this method to right files onto a client machine.
Hope that gets you started.

Form2xml generate xml files with "??????????" for non-latin characters

i used form2xml in oracle 10 g suit to convert forms 5 .fmb to .xml . using the command:
frmf2xml.bat OVERWRITE=YES myform.fmb
The forms contains arabic character set, but the xml file is generated with character "????????? " , and the xml file is unusable
what can i do to keep arabic characters in the generated xml files.

I run form2xml on windows xp SP3 with arabic support (codepage =1256)
The xml file is generated as UTF-8

I resolved the problem.
step1: search in the registry for every NLS_Lang key and modify its value to codepage 1256 using regedit
step2: in control panel-Region and Language , I modified language to be Arabic
Now every thing is good

XML to PCL: Problem with special characters, entity referenceses, etc.

I (an XML beginner) am trying to produce PCL (escape sequences, you know) documents from XML using the PL/SQL parser and I'm having the following problems:
1. I need the escape character either in the XSL file, or in the XML, but this results in the error:
Error occurred while parsing: Invalid char in text.
2. I also need the character &. I tried to use the entity reference for & but the result was that it's converted to ampersand-#-38; (without the hyphens, of course) in the parsed file.
3. I have to use characters from the German alphabet (umlauts) but it seems that I'm not the only one who doesn't like them! I tried changing the encoding (ISO-8859-1 or -2) in my XSL file but the error is always:
Error occurred while parsing: 6-byte UTF8 encoding not supported.
How can I get all these characters in the result file?

I am having this same trouble. I want to have an XML document that has ISO-8859-1 encoding that contains an (ampersand)amp; character entity. Using XML with special characters - not rendering

Hello,
I am using xml to populate the content of a Flash file, but
we have localized content for different global regions. So, when
the content contains special characters like "é" they do not
show up at all in the flash. I tried using é but that
just renders the actual code...
Is there a workaround for this?

Flash Version: 8, but the swf was published to be 7+
compatible.
The font is Meta Normal, it is embedded, and it does include
the character.

I am creating the XML using Macromedia Homesite, with the
encoding declaration <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
The XML is being read fine, only the special characters don't
show up... so it will cut off the word, or just have an empty space

EBS-R12 Generate XML (with data) from Embedded Data Definition

Hi
I'm new to running XMLP/BIP in EBS.
I have found the extensive set of data definitions and templates in EBS and they work great out of the box.
I, however, need to make template modifications.
To this end, a correctly structured XML data template - containing all the data fields - is needed for loading into the template-builder in Word.
If for example I take the embedded R12 data definition - XLAJELINESRPT.xml - for Posted Payable Invoices, and load it into the template builder, it provides the structure of the data template and not the structure of the output XML data.
I have tried several ways to run the Data definition through XMLP using the concurrent manager attempting to intercept the generated XML (with data) but it either completes the process and uses the linked output template - producing the PDF - or other output - or if I remove the (output template altogether) it fails with an error.
Maybe I'm missing an obvious step, but there has to be a way of taking the very comprehensive Data Definitions embedded in R12 EBS and using them in custom report templates.
If I've totally missed the point, please give me the steps to follow.

HI Mike,
You cannot load your Data Template into the MS Word Template Builder plugin, as it cannot be run to generate XML this way.
You have two options to get the data from an XML Publisher Report run as a concurrent program in EBS.
1) Using the XML Publisher Administrator responsibility, set an end date for both the Data Defintion and Template Definitions associated with the XLAJELINESRPT report.
2) Leave the concurrent program, Data Defintions and Template Definitions exactly as they are and run the report. Once the report has completed, select the Concurrent Request, click "Diagnostics" then click "View XML". This will open the XML in a new browser window. You can then right click, View Source and then save this document locally.
You can then load this XML into the MS Word Template Builder and start building your template.

Generate XML file Dynamically

We want to generate an xml file for the given folder in file system. This XML should contain nested nodes for all subfolders and files. Please could any one help me with logic to generate xml?
Sample of XML

The very simplest way would be to simply write all the nodes yourself:

writer.write("</Sub_Folder>");
//etcBut this is pretty brittle and prone to errors and would only work for the most trivial files. If you want robust XML support then you should use some library like perhaps jdom

How to update a table whose column name contains an ampersand?

Hello,
I am needing to update a column whose column name contains an ampersand, and cannot figure out a way to do this. Option is not there to have the column name changed.
Ex:
UPDATE aircrafts
SET d&f = 1
WHERE aircraft_code = '737';
this returns an error of missing an = sign
I tried:
SET 'd'||'&'||'f' = 1
doesnt work
Any help is greatly appreciated.

SET DEFINE OFF
will stop interpreting the & sign as starting of a lexical parameter on the client.
Not sure if you have that issue there.
& might also be a not allowed character in normal column names (didn't test).
In that case you might need to put the column name in ".

Be aware that in this case the column name must be spelled exactly like it was when the table was created.
Included upper/lower case.

UPDATE aircrafts
SET "D&F" = 1

Generating XML from SQL queries and saving to an xml file?

I was wondering if somebody could help with regards to the following:
Generating XML from SQL queries and saving to a xml file?
We want to have a procedure(PL/SQL) that accepts an order number as an input parameter(the procedure
is accessed by our software on the client machine).
Using this order number we do a couple of SQL queries.
My first question: What would be our best option to convert the result of the
queries to xml?
Second Question: Once the XML has been generated, how do we save that XML to a file?
(The XML file is going to be saved on the file system of the server that
the database is running on.)
Now our procedure will also have a output parameter which returns the filename to us. eg. Order1001.xml
Our software on the client machine will then ftp this XML file(based on the output parameter[filename]) to
the client hard drive.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using 9iR2 you do not need to do any of this..
You can create an XML as an XMLType using the new SQL/XML operators. You can insert this XML into the XML DB repository using DBMS_XDB.createResource. You can then access the document from the resource. You can also return the XMLType containing the XML directly from the PL/SQL Procedure.
