Generating XML from SQL queries and saving to an xml file?

Hi there,
I was wondering if somebody could help with regards to the following:
Generating XML from SQL queries and saving to a xml file?
We want to have a procedure(PL/SQL) that accepts an order number as an input parameter(the procedure
is accessed by our software on the client machine).
Using this order number we do a couple of SQL queries.
My first question: What would be our best option to convert the result of the
queries to xml?
Second Question: Once the XML has been generated, how do we save that XML to a file?
(The XML file is going to be saved on the file system of the server that
the database is running on.)
Now our procedure will also have a output parameter which returns the filename to us. eg. Order1001.xml
Our software on the client machine will then ftp this XML file(based on the output parameter[filename]) to
the client hard drive.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you,
Francois

If you are using 9iR2 you do not need to do any of this..
You can create an XML as an XMLType using the new SQL/XML operators. You can insert this XML into the XML DB repository using DBMS_XDB.createResource. You can then access the document from the resource. You can also return the XMLType containing the XML directly from the PL/SQL Procedure.

    Hi

  • Why it's so inefficient to generate XML from SQL queries?

    I am learning to use Oracle9i XML DB to generate XML document using SQL queries. According to the document, there are multiple ways to do it (SQLX, DBMS_XMLGEN, SYS_XMLGEN, XSU). I am using SQLX to do it, but find it's so inefficient. Could someone point out what could be the problem?
    I generate XML from TPC-H database, using the query as shown below. The indexes and primary key/foreign keys are created and specified. The system is Pentium IV 2GHz, Linux 2.4.18 with 512MB memory and 1GB swap. With database size 5MB, it spends about 300 seconds (TKPROF result) to generate the XML document. But for 10MB TPCH database, I cannot get the xml document after a long time. I find that all almost physical memory are used up by it. Therefore I stop it.
    It seems that nested-loop join is used to evaluate the query, therefore it's very inefficient. I don't know whether there is a efficient way to do it.
    Wish to get your help. Thank you very much!

    Tim,
    Oracle Reports was the orginal way to do this in an Oracle Apps environment. However, the XML Publisher team built a tool called data templates to do this as well. You can read several articles on how to use data templates on the XMLP blog. Here's the first arcticle in a series: http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2006/11/08#a127.

Any help much appreciated

    FYI I had to put this link into firefox to reply - because **** back safari just wouldn't register my clicks to any of the links on the post... Despite reloadeing and even restarting my computer. Totally annoying and a massive pain in the ***.
    But in terms of my initial query; thanks for responding. But no, this is NOT the cause of the problem. I have auto sync and sync over wifi activated, but have also selected manually manage music and videos. Plus, all of my music and videos are on my macbook, absolutely all of it, so if it my phone was syncing with my macbook everything would still be on the phone. Life would be peachy if my phone jsut copied everything that was on my macbook, but unfortuantely it keeps deleting tracks for no apparent reason.
    Any thoughts greatly welcomed, because at the moment i can only conclude that my iphone is crap.

  • Pull data from SQL Table and display it in mail

    I have a requirement to pull the data from SQL table and send it in email.  Currently I am sending the hard coded info in email but is it possible to pull some data from SQL Table and than format it and send it across in the same email?
    Can you guide me with steps on this.
    Neil

    There are several ways to do this.  First is to populate a file in a data flow and then send that as an attachment in the send mail task.
    As far as including the results in the email body this becomes a bit trickier.  To use a variable you would need to use an SSIS variable type of
    Object, this is similar to a collection in .NET.  The problem once the object is populated is that it isn't like a readable result set, but again more like an array or a collection.  There is no native method to take the object variable and
    specify .ToString() or cast its results as text.  You would need to iterate through each row and append it to another variable of type string, this could be done with a script task or ForEach container.
    Also you mentioned formatting the results.  What type of formatting were you looking for.  A limitation of the SMTP send mail task is that the message body doesn't support HTML so if you were looking at creating a table within the mail body you
    would have to use a script task or a custom component

  • HT1473 i have downloaded some songs from the internet and saved it on my desktop. how do i transfer those songs to itunes?

    i have downloaded some songs from the internet and saved it on my desktop. but i do not know how to import the songs from that folder to itunes.

    Just drag the song(s) to iTunes, if they are one of these formats (wav, m4a, mp3, mp4, wma etc) and they will appear under Music library.
    If you have lots of music files, put them in a folder and go iTunes menu FILE, Add folder to library..... to add this folder at one go.

    Apple Mail isn't going to change the format of any of your attachments. it isn't going to corrupt them either.
    Exchange is a transport protocol and server. The issue you describe is not related to Exchange.
    There are many different versions of Microsoft Outlook in use and they all have e-mail bugs. Different versions have different bugs. Some Apple Mail hack to get around a bug in Outlook 2003 may cause the same message to be problematic in Outlook 2000. Fix them both and another issue will cause trouble in Outlook 2007. You can't fix this. Apple can't fix this. Microsoft can and has but that is irrelevant if your recipients are using older versions.
    One specific problem is that Apple Mail always sends image attachments inline, as images, not as iconized files. You can change this with Attachment Tamer. Just be aware that use of this software will break other things such as Stationery. E-mail is just a disaster. To date, no one outside of Apple has ever implemented the e-mail standards from 1993. Apple has continually changed its e-mail software to be more compatible with the de-facto standards that Netscape and Microsoft have unilaterally defined and people documented as "standards" after the fact. The e-mail messages that Apple Mail sends are 100% correct and do not violate any of the original standards from 1993 or the Microsoft/Netscape modifications. The problem is entirely bugs and limitations in various versions of Outlook.

I have CS6 and when I try to open it, it shuts down ID almost instantly. The file was created on a MAC and I am trying to open it on a MAC. Any/all advice is greatly appreciated as I am up against a deadline with this unopened file! Many thanks in advance, Diane

    There's a good chance the file is corrupt. As whomever sent it to you to verify it opens on their end.

    If you have Adobe Acrobat (not Adobe Reader) the program can perform an OCR on the document you acquired.
    In the past I used ABBYY FineReader

  • ? in SQL Queries and not using prepared statements

    Using EclipseLink 1.1.1
    Prepared Statements are disabled
    In our production server something went wrong and one of our Read Queries started erroring. A DatabaseException was thrown and we log the "getQuery.getSQLString()" statement. We found this query in the logs:
    SELECT t1.ID, t1.NAME, t1.DESCRIPTION, t1.EXTREFID, t1.STYLESHEET, t1.DDSVNVERSION, t1.FIRSTNAME, t1.LASTNAME, t1.EMAILADDR, t1.PHONENUMBER, t1.ADDRESS, t1.ADDRESS2, t1.CITY, t1.STATE, t1.POSTALCODE, t1.COUNTRY, t1.ADMINACCTNAME, t1.HASDOCUMENTS, t1.HASTIMEDNOTIFICATIONS, t1.STATUS, t1.ENTRYDATE, t1.EVALEXPDATE, t1.LASTREMINDDATE, t1.FULLUSERS, t1.LIMUSERS, t1.REQUSERS, t1.ISENTERPRISE, t1.EXPDATE, t1.ISDISABLED, t1.DISABLEDDATE, t1.NEEDLICENSEAGREEMENT, t1.ISWARNINGDISABLED, t1.LOCALE, t1.TIMEZONE, t1.CURRENCY, t1.DOMAIN, t1.DOCUMENTSIZE, t1.EXTRADOCUMENTSTORAGE, t1.ONDEMANDOPTIONS, t1.SSOTYPE, t1.RESELLERID, t1.ACCOUNTREPID, t1.LASTUSAGEREPORTDATE, t1.NEXTUSAGEREPORTDATE, t1.USAGEREPORTATTEMPTS FROM T_SSOOPTIONS t0, T_CUSTOMERS t1 WHERE *((((t0.SSOENABLED = ?) AND (t1.SSOTYPE IN (?, ?))) AND (UPPER(t1.DOMAIN) = ?)) AND (t0.CUSTOMERID = t1.ID))*
    Notice the values weren't entered into the where clause. We had to bounce the application to fix the problem. I've never seen this before. I've added more debugging statements to the code - so if this happens again in the future I'll have more information to report on. In the mean time I'm wondering if anyone else has every seen a problem of this nature.

    Database error due to invalid SQL statement.
    I don't have a stack, we were catching the exception and not printing the stack :(
    Like I mentioned in my first post, I added more debugging code (e.printStackTrace()). I understand this is hard to track down without more information. I was just hoping you guys had seen something like this before and had any insight. Like I mentioned before: this is on our production server. I've never seen this type of error before. That particular server (we run in a cluster mode) had been up for several days and then started generating that error. IT bounced the node and everything went back to normal. We have been using toplink for about 5 years now and have never seen this problem, until August 3rd 2009. The only thing that has changed recently is our migration from toplink 10 to EclipseLink. I was wondering if anyone knows if anything had changed in EclipseLink/toplink 11 with the generation of SQL queries.
    I'll keep looking. There is more debugging code in there now. Since the error was "Database error due to invalid SQL statement" this implies the SQL was generated, exited that part of the code and was sent to the db where it failed. I'm afraid the printStackTrace won't help if this error happens again.

  • Extract the data from SQL Server and Import into Oracle

    Hi,
    I would like to run a daily job that will export the table data from SQL server table (it will be only one or two table) and Import back into Oracle table (it might one or two table tables).
    Could you please guide me that how can i do this using either sql server or oracle?
    We have oracle 9.2 and sql server 2005.
    Normally i do from flat file which is generated by source destination nand i dump into oracle using sql*loader but this time I have to directly extract/export the data from MS Sql server and load into Oracle table, mostly it will reload so i might doing any massaging data during the load.
    If you show me the detail approach, it will be really appreciated.
    I have access to Sql server but i don't how to use sql server to do this or using oracle as a daily job even becuase have to schedule the job for this as it will be a daily job.
    Thanks,
    poratips

    Unless you can find an open source ODBC driver for SQL Server that runs on Solaris (and I wouldn't be overly hopeful there) Heterogeneous Services would require that you license something-- a third party ODBC driver, a new Oracle instance, or an Oracle Transparent Gateway.
    As I stated below, you could certainly use SQL Server's ETL tool, DTS. Oracle's ETL tools would require additional licensing since you're just on 9.2. You could also write a small application (Java or otherwise) that connected to both databases and transferred the data. If you're particularly enterprising, you could load the SQL Server Type 4 JDBC driver into Oracle's JVM and write a Java stored procedure that connected to the SQL Server database via JDBC, but that's a pretty convoluted approach.

  • Dequeue XML from Oracle AQ and insert data into table

    Using PL/SQL in a stored procedure, I need to dequeue a message from an Oracle AQ queue, parse the XML content and insert the data in an Oracle table. This is being done in Oracle 9.2.x.
    The payload for the message consists of 2 attributes, APPLICATION_DATA (VARCHAR2(32) and MESSAGE_BODY (CLOB). The MESSAGE_BODY is an XML document. A sample of the message is shown below:
    (M_NAME=MSG_LAW_WR_CRE_UPD, <?xml version = "1.0"?>
    <MSG_LAW_WR_CRE_UPD ID = "WMIS-4744" SRC_SYSTEM_CODE = "WMIS" SRC_SYSTEM_INSTANCE = "WMIS">
    <WR:CMP_LAW_WR_CRE_UPD xmlns:WR = "WR" >
    <WR:DATETIME>12/19/2005</WR:DATETIME>
    <WR:RUSCODE>100</WR:RUSCODE>
    <WR:WRNO>38213</WR:WRNO>
    </WR:CMP_LAW_WR_CRE_UPD>
    </MSG_LAW_WR_CRE_UPD>)
    This message needs to be dequeued from a queue named INBOUND, parsed and inserted into a table named INFO_TO_ACCT (CREATEDATE date, RUSCODE varchar2(10), WRNO number).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    SELECT EXTRACTVALUE(xmltype('<?xml version = "1.0"?>
    <MSG_LAW_WR_CRE_UPD ID = "WMIS-4744" SRC_SYSTEM_CODE = "WMIS" SRC_SYSTEM_INSTANCE = "WMIS">
    <CMP_LAW_WR_CRE_UPD>
    <DATETIME>12/19/2005</DATETIME>
    <RUSCODE>100</RUSCODE>
    <WRNO>38213</WRNO>
    </CMP_LAW_WR_CRE_UPD>
    </MSG_LAW_WR_CRE_UPD>'),'//DATETIME/text()') FROM DUAL;
    hope this helps.
