Ampersand character encoding in generated xml

Hi,
I'm generating xml from my relational database tables using XSU. I'm having a problem where my table column contains data with the ampersand symbol as in 'Black & White'. XSU generates my xml but i can't parse the generated xml till i convert the '&' to '&'.
Is there a way to tell XSU to encode these symbols in the generated xml? I would like to avoid storing the encoded data in my relational tables like 'Black & White'.
I'm using the XDK for PL/SQL for Unix 9.2.0.3.0 on Oracle 8.1.7.3.
I would appreciate if someone could help me out with this issue.
Thanks,
Sanjit

I've got the same problem but not only with the & but also with strange characters like
Belgik -> k
Comiti -> i
Its something like {( returns..
Is this a bug or something?
Thanks in advance, Didier

  • Changing character encoding in ps xml pub. from utf-8 to iso-8859-1

    I am using xml publisher to generate a report in a pdf format, now my problem is user has entered a comment which is not supported by utf but in iso-8559-1 its working fine,
    I tried to change the encoding in people code, xml doc file ,schema and xliff file but still the old formatting exist,should I change somewhere else.
    Following the error i get when trying to generate pdf:"Error generating report output: (235,2309)Error occurred during the process of generating the output file from template file, XML data file, and translation XLIFF file.".The parser is not able to recognise with utf-8 encoding.

    I had the same issue. I created the xml through rowset and used string substitute function and its working.
    Sample:
    &inXMLDoc = CreateXmlDoc("");
    &ret = &inXMLDoc.CopyRowset(&rsHdr);
    &sXMLString = &inXMLDoc.GenFormattedXmlString();
    &sXMLString = Substitute(&sXMLString, "<?xml version=""1.0""?>", "<?xml version=""1.0"" encoding=""ISO-8859-1""?>");
    hope this helps!

  • XML parser not detecting character encoding

    Hi,
    I am using Jdeveloper 9.0.5 preview and the same problem is happening in our production AS 9.0.2 release.
    The character encoding of an xml document is not correctly being detected by the oracle v2 parser even though the xml declaration correctly contains
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
    instead it treats the document as UTF8 encoding which is fine until a document comes along with an extended character which then causes a
    java.io.UTFDataFormatException: Invalid UTF8 encoding.

    at oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParser.parse(XMLParser.java:144)
    as you can see it is explicitly casting the XMLUTF8Reader to perform the read.
    I can get around this by hard coding the xml input stream to be processed by a reader
    XMLSource = new StreamSource(new InputStreamReader(XMLInStream,"ISO-8859-1"));
    however the manual documents that the character encoding is automatically picked up from the xml file and casting into a reader is not necessary, so I should be able to write
    XMLSource = new StreamSource(XMLInStream)
    Does anyone else experience this same problem?
    having to hardcode the encoding causes my software to lose flexibility.
    Jarrod Sharp.

    An XML document should be created with 'ISO-8859-1' encoding to be parsed as 'ISO-8859-1' encoding.

  • Character Encoding in XML

    Hello All,
    I am not clear about solving the problem.
    We have a Java application on NT that is supposed to communicate with the same application on MVS mainframe through XML.
    We have a character encoding for these XML commands we send for communication.
    The problem is, on MVS the parser is not understaning the US-ASCII character encoding. And so we are getting the infamous "illegal character error".
    The main frame file.encoding=CP1047 and
    NT's file.encoding = us-ascii.
    Is there any character encoding that is common to these two machines: mainframe and NT.
    IF it is Unicode, what is the correct notation for it.
    Or is there any way for specifying the parsers to which character encoding should be used.
    thanks,
    Sridhar

    On the mainframe end maybe something like-
    FileInputStream fris = new FileInputStream("C:\\whatever.xml");
    InputStreamReader is= new InputStreamReader(fris, "ASCII");//or maybe "us-ascii" "US-ASCII"
    BufferedReader brin = new BufferedReader(is);
    Or give inputstream/buffered reader to whatever application you are using to parse the xml. The input stream reader should allow you to set your encoding even if the system doesnt have the native encoding. Depends though on which/whose jvm using you are using jdk1.2 at least supports following on this page http://as400bks.rochester.ibm.com/pubs/html/as400/v4r4/ic2924/info/java/rzaha/javaapi/intl/encoding.doc.html

  • DataProcessor generating XML containing special ampersand, equals sign etc

    Hi,
    Using 10.1.3.3.3
    I am using the BIP API's to generate reports for an application, but have a problem where the DataProcessor is generating XML containing ampersands and equal signs '&', '=' from the database.
    The characters are causing the FOProcessor to throw and exception when reading the generated XML:
    oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Expected name instead of .
    08/08/06 12:12:22 at oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLError.flushErrors1(XMLError.java:320)
    If I remove the '&' and '=' the PDF is generated successfully.
    It is not pratical to convert these characters as part of the queries (40+ tables times x columns).
    Is there anything I can put in the data template or config to get it to properly escape these characters when generating in the XML data?
    Apologies if this has been answered in another thread.
    Brenden

    You must replace '&' by &
    '=' work fine.

  • Generate XML - Special Character in data causing error

    Hello,
    I have a procedure written using DBMS_XMLGEN to create xml output. A problem that I am running into is some of my data has an eacute in it. How can I code the XML to account for this and any other weird characters that may exist?
    (ie - i need to be able to specify the encoding part of ?xml version=1.0 encoding=ISO-8859-1?)
    Here is an excerpt of what i have so far...the results are fine until I run to include the data with the eacute. Then nothing is generated at all. I tried .convert, but I don't know if that's what I need, or if I am calling it correctly.

    No. There are no XML components that will clean up malformed XML. Your options are to go to whoever sent you that document and tell them that their XML is malformed and that in future they should not do that, or to write your own component to clean up the malformed XML. Since that would involve more work than writing a full XML parser, I don't recommend the second option.

  • Adding  " ?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"? "   in generated xmls

    Hi,
    I am using xmlbeans framework to generate xmls , i am able to generate xml using document object but header "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>" is not coming in that xml file , how to include this in output xml files.

    Hi,
    I don't know the XMLBeans Framework, but this header is called XML declaration.
    In general there are options to configure this (i. e. setOption("omit-xml-declaration", false);).
    Anyway, I don't know the exact syntax in this framework but have a look at this, maybe it helps somehow.

  • Error while generating XML file through RDF

    Hi,
    I wanted to generate a Report on some business case. For that I need to generate XML file first.
    For generating XML file
    1. I have built an RDF through Reports builder.
    2. Saved the report to local machine with extension .rdf
    3. Moved it to appltop/app/reports/US directory
    4. Registered tha Report with Executable of type Oracle Reports
    5. Defined Concurrent Program with OUTPUT as XML.
    When I submmitted the program, it was giving an error as follows.
    The XML page cannot be displayed
    Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
    A semi colon character was expected. Error processing resource 'https://oaphrd.humana.com/OA_CGI/FNDWRR.exe?temp_id=2088989...
    +<?xml version="1.0" encoding="&Encoding"?>+
    But, when I tried to sane the report directly to a file (file - > generate file -> XML) the XML was generated successfully.
    How to get rid of this. Some one please help me out.
    Thanks !
    Edited by: Rajasekhar Reddy on May 4, 2012 1:23 AM

    Hi,
    I found the issue and corrected it. :)
    This was happened only because of the Version problem of Report Builder with Oracle Applications.
    Reports Builder 10g is not compatiblie with Oracle Applications 11.5.10.
    Oracle 11.5+ will always expect the RDF from Reports 6i version. Because of this, the endocing was damaged.
    You can observe in the earlier post as encoding="&Endoding". Here +&Encoding should be replaced by some encoding mechanism like "UTF-8".+
    Finally corrected the version and got the Output as expected.
    Thanks !

  • Generating XMLs from CSVs using DOM parser......

    Hi,
    I am trying to generate XMLs from CSV files using DOM parser. XMLs are getting generated but the problem is that i am using Encoding "ISO-8859-1" but XMLs are getting generated in UTF-8 encoding.
    Please refer to the code below and advice. (where are the code tags gone ????? )
    Source domSource = new DOMSource(document);
    ByteArrayOutputStream xmlStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    Result result = new StreamResult(xmlStream);
    Transformer transformer = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
    transformer.transform(domSource, result);
    xmlStream.close();
    generatedXml = new String(xmlStream.toByteArray(), "*ISO-8859-1*");

    Use transformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.ENCODING, "ISO-8859-1") to specify the character set.

  • Autonomy Character Encoding

    I'm sorry if this is not the right place to ask, but it seems to be the less inappropriate place XD
    I'm working with the Search Engine that is shipped with WebLogic Portal(Autonomy Idol), and I'm having some problems with character encoding, in the server where the Autonomy installation is running I have no access to the Internet so I cannot run the spider to search any website... so I ran a spider into my computer and It worked fine... then I exported the INDEXED data into an idx file which I uploaded into the production server and then I indexed, the problem is that some characters aren't shown correctly in my portlet, executing an action command such as /action=query&text=something_here I can see that the generated xml has this wrong characters, so definitely this is not a problem with my porltet, executing the same action in my local autonomy installation everything goes well so the questions are...
    Why Autonomy is not indexing correctly the special characters into my production environment?? and
    Why it happens only with some of them? for example the word Ingeniería is indexed correctly in some entries and not in some others, and both entries comes from the same idx file
    Thanks in advance
    P.S

    Sorry, in the example I gave, the none-english letters looks like this:
    &# 1490;&# 1497;&# 1488;(I made the space between the # and the number delibertly to prevent it from being presented as a letter ...).
