how can i calculate date difference in hours from 2 dates(timestamp) in obiee
i.e. 02/03/1986:08:00 and 03/02/1986:0:14:00

If you are having two date column and want the difference in hours then try with the below function:
timestampdiff(SQL_TSI_HOUR, date_column1, Date_Colum2)
or if you are having two date value in the expression itself then go with the below syntax:
timestampdiff(SQL_TSI_HOUR, TIMESTAMP'1998/07/31 23:35:00', TIMESTAMP'2000/04/01 14:24:00')

OBIEE 11g is having " localedefinitions.xml " file at this Location C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\display
in my case i installed at C:\Oracle\MIddleware.
so
1- Stop BI Server from EM
2- Navigate to this Location C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\display. in your case oracle home will be different
3- take a backup of this file localedefinitions.xml "
4- modify it and save
5- bring BI Server up.

Graph Data Labels in OBIEE 11g - Customizing

Hi folks!
Would somebody know how to select what is shown in graph data labels in OBIEE 11g?
For example in a scatter graph data label I'd like to show the Group only (not the combination of Series, Group, X and Y, as by default). For a pie chart one can select the data shown in data labels to some extent (name / value), however couldn't find this option for scatter graph.
After searching I could only find instructions for 10g - such as John's instructions at http://obiee101.blogspot.com.es/2008/01/obiee-xy-and-data-in-mouse-over-label.html.
However, my understanding is that the graph engine in OBIEE 11g is now different, and the 10g instructions are not valid for 11g anymore.
I was also having a look on the .cxml files in OBIEE 11g but those seem to relate to colors only?

Oracle EBS Discoverer as a data source for OBIEE 11g

We are a heavy user of Discoverer workbooks with Oracle EBS. We're moving to OBIEE 11g(11.1.1.3) and have an RPD with both 3rd party and custom content.
I wanted to ask the experts here how I can leverage my Discoverer investment with out a lot of re-work in OBIEE. I briefly looked at the MigrateEUL.exe and it says it can move an EUL to an RPD, but talks about some limitations for complex EULs such as an EBS Apps EUL. Even if it created an RPD, I'm not sure how I can merge my current RPD and this newly gen'd RPD.
I also heard from someone that there is a way to setup Discoverer EUL as a standard data source in OBIEE 11g and consume it directly. I'm looking for a document or blog that explains these steps. Any pointers or experiences with the above is appreciated!!

My personal expreriences:
The Metadata Conversion Utility is an accellerator / assistant. It does not provide you with an end product. There is some additional handwork requiered. It could be a risk when you copy an old Oracle Discoverer environment. Shit in is shit out. Last but not least; There is not yet a workbook migration utility.

Date Diff Issues

1. Subscriber – Employee Details has these three records
2. Call Details has these two records
My main goal is to populate date diff in table 1 as 1 if "work order check in date" >= 3 of Aspect calender date from the 2nd table.
The Problem i am facing is that the date diff in table 1 does not populate. I have come to an understanding that the issue is because of many t many relationship between table 1 and table 2. Is there a way to work around this?
Date Diff formula - If(DaysBetween([Work Order Check In Date];[Base2]) >=3 ;1;0)

Did you try removing If condition and able to see the date difference result,if so is it working fine or not? If it is working fine use this result and define another variable for If-else and validate the condition

Union tables from multiply data srouces in OBIEE

Hi Pros,
Recenetly I am doing a POC about union the same structure table from multiply data sources through OBIEE, uptill now I still can't make that out, I have tried below ways :
Precondition: I have configured those two tables under one physical folder with two connection pool
1. When do the union in physical level, can not implement since either can not create a view union two tables or using SQL.
2. When do the union in Logical level, can not implement also
I know that this kind of data integration should be done before we import into OBIEE model, but there is some policy that we can't integrate, so I just wondering whether OBIEE has this functionlity that can union data from different data source. Please advise.

After a second thought, I am wondering what you mean in the post, but the situation is that there are two tables in different data sources, Table-A and Table-B in the Physical layer, they are not yet integrated into one table(let's say Table-C), you mean add a data source indictor column into a table in BMM layer, I want to know how can we integrate data (UNION), because from my perspective, if TABLE-A have bleow column ID,NAME,ADDRESS, while the TABLE-B have the same, the difference is the data bwtween them, even we create a logicl table in BMM, drag those those columns, we only get ID,NAME,ADDRESS,ID#,NAME#,ADDRESS#, but the table structure is different.
The problem is how to create a logic table like TABLE-D (ID,NAME,ADDRESS) which have the data both from TABLE-A and TABLE-B in Physical Layer. While no need to filter by prompt about the data sources. We need to show the data altoghter.
Please advise if I missing you point.

Data Security in OBIEE Repository

I applied Data Security in OBIEE Repository,created testuser and assigned to Test group.Applied security in the Test group for specific column using Logical Fact.When i login using the testuser i am not able to see the applied data filter in the Test Group.Am i missing anything.

I tried but still i don't see the security filter.Do i need to configure my NQSconfigfile.ini.Security filter status in Repository is Enable.We implemented fragmentation in logical fact,anyway that shouldn't matter as per my guess.

Where the scheduled (recurring report) related data saved in OBIEE?

Suppose I scheduled the report for daily for one month at 8.30 pm. in Oracle BI Publisher.
I want to know at which location this all report recurring related data saved in OBIEE toll.

Date diff calculations

I want to calculate the date diff for delivery date(eg;-sep-24 ,2007) and scheduled date(eg:-sep-17,2007)there the result should be 7 but i dont no how to write query can we use routines in this kind of situations...

Date Difference in OBIEE

I have two date columns and I want one logical column which contains difference of those two DATE columns.
But I found that we dont have any Date difference or Date Add functions in OBIEE Answers.
Can anyone tell me any work around for the Date ADD/DIFF functions?

Date Variable in Obiee 11g

Hi All,
I have created a dynamic repository variable that gives the current date. The date is given in the following format 'MM/DD/YYYY'. This is format that I want the date to appear in. In the presentation catalog, I have created a presentation variable dashboard promt called StartDate, that defaults to the repository variable CurrentDate. I have also created a report that has a number of measures filtered in different ways. If we take one of the measures in the report, what I have done is edited the formula to filter the measure by reported_date>Date'@{StartDate}'.
Now when I got and see my dashboard I get an error, 'Datetime value 06/07/2011 from 06/07/2011 does not match the specified format'. However when I click 'Apply' on the prompt, the error does not appear and it just says that there is no data for this report.
Can someone please help me solve this problem?

Data reconciliation using OBIEE/Answers

I am new to OBIEE. I am trying to use the OBIEE and Answers for the reconciliation of the accounting entries with transaction data, However This leads to two facts one transaction lines and accounting lines. I can make the transaction lines also dimension. But in such case can I compare the transaction amounts with accounting amounts something like
Transaction Total – Accounting total – difference .

Still I am not ready with complete data model. However I Can explain. we have the customer, transaction types, date , Currency as dimensions. These dimensions are linked to the transaction Fact where we have the transaction amount like Invoice amount for each Transactions, open balance for each TXtransaction. We have another child table to the transaction table called accounting distribution table. Now i can build two differnt star one for transaction as fact and another one as Accounting flex. In such a case in we join both fact in presentationlayer to get the transaction amount and accounting amount compared. Also another question is can we have the both facts in the same schema. Or any other approach?

Not able to save date column with custom date format. in OBIEE 11g

Hi,
I have migrated one report from OBIEE 10g to 11g. There is a date column with customized date format(i.e. Default format is 'dd-MMM-yyyy' and I have used 'MMM-yyyy').
But when I use this custom format and try to save the report in 11g its giving this below error.
''Catalog object privilege validation failed for user to path /shared/ALM BI/Finacial Results/History Income Statement Detail.
You do not currently have sufficient privileges to save a report or dashboard page that contains HTML markup.
This HTML might be present in column headings, table headings, text views, narrative views, the print header,
or the print footer and must be removed before saving.''
Please let me know what changes I need to do for this.

Prompt Name(date) =13-sep-10
table name -test1
requirement is to once i select the date from Date prompt let us say 13-sep-10 so it should select all the data after that date

TimestampDiff and TimestampADD( Difference of two dates) in OBIEE
How to get a difference between two dates (in terms ) of days,weeks,months what every it may be
The below formula gives you no.of days between day date and current_Date
Days difference:
TIMESTAMPDIFF(SQL_TSI_DAY, Time."Day Date",CURRENT_DATE)
The below formula gives you no.of months day date and current_Date
Months difference:
TIMESTAMPDIFF(SQL_TSI_MONTH, Time."Day Date",CURRENT_DATE)
The below formula adds months to day date column
Toadd 12 months to a date column:
TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_MONTH, 12,Time."Day Date")
similarly we can write the formulas using different intervals based on the date format in the column
Here are the intervals :
SQL_TSI_SECOND,
SQL_TSI_MINUTE,
SQL_TSI_HOUR,
SQL_TSI_DAY,
SQL_TSI_WEEK,
SQL_TSI_MONTH,
SQL_TSI_QUARTER,
SQL_TSI_YEAR.

i created 2 dashboards prompts. from 2 dummy collums
i set CAST ( NULL AS DATE ) and CAST ( '11/12/2008' AS DATE ),i choose calendar and i set 2 presentation variables,start and end
in my reports i creates a single collumn(measure column from fact table) QTY where i want to se the quantity of the specified period of time.
i set in the function...
FILTER(fact.QTY USING (CALENDAR_DIM.CALENDAR_DATE BETWEEN '@{start}{04/01/2007}' AND '@{end}{06/01/2007}'))
(i did that because i want to have 2 colums of qty in order to represent 2 qts of 2 different periods.
i made a simple test only with one period but the result was...

i manage to do my scenario with dropdown list but it is not what i want.
the one tha o notice is that the field from the calendar is acceptin the dates onlu in format of yyyy-MM-dd.
