DB recovery crashes when executed from script, finishes OK manually

Hello everybody,
I have a DB restore script which I used/tested a lot of times. On the last run it crashed in the archivelog recovery phase, but I was able to open the instance when applying the remaining commands manually.
DB is a 10g2 on Solaris 10, I have a full backup made with EMC NetWorker. After taking the backup, the machine was re-installed from scratch (OS, additional 3rd party software, Oracle software and backup client). A new, empty DB instance was also created.
Restore script performs the following:
- checks/creates directory structure needed by Oracle instance;
- stops the listener;
- shuts down the new instance;
- startup mount exclusive, enable restricted session;
- drops database instance via RMAN
- recovers the orapw, spfile, tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files from the backupset;
- stars the instance in nomount;
- replicates the controlfile from a saved copy in the backupset;
- mounts the instance;
- starts the following RMAN sequence:
run {
set until $LAST_SCN_IN_BACKUPSET;
allocate channel c3 type 'sbt_tape' parms 'ENV=(....)';
restore database check readonly;
recover database check readonly;
release channel c3;
sql 'alter database open resetlogs';
- starts the listener.
Almost all is performed OK, until the "recover database check readonly" command, where the recover crashes with the following messages:

The curious thing is that when I ran the following commands manually (from RMAN), the recovery was OK:
run {
set until scn $LAST_SCN_IN_BACKUPSET;
recover database check readonly;
(finished in a couple of minutes)
sql 'alter database open resetlogs';
(finished after a few minutes)
lsnrctl start (from shell) - OK.
Could somebody point me to the possible causes of this behavior?
Thank you all for your time,
Adrian

Hi Werner,
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I'm using the block change tracking file. As the DB instance was re-created when the machine was installed, the bct must have been created also. However, in my script I dropped the DB instance, and the bct was, most likely, deleted, as were all the other datafiles.
After the restore script crashed, I had no bct file in the expected location (which is the location of all the datafiles).
I'm wondering why the bct could not have been created during the run of the restore script.
Looking through the alert log, I realise I tried an "alter database open resetlogs" before running the recovery sequence, and at that point, the bct was created.
Then, the second attempt to open the instance was successfull - please see below the messages from the alert log:

So, to recap:
- bct file not created at first try (restore script);
- bct file created during the failed attempt to open the db (manual command);
- second attempt to open the db successfull (manual command).
The behavior doesn't seem to be systematic, as I don't think this happens every time. In this case, I'm starting to wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to disable the bct before starting the restore, and then to enable it back when the db is opened.
Thank you again for your idea,
Adrian

    A) When i am executing below script
    Select ToP 10000 [T_idx],[T_Tag], [T_date], [T_counter] from dbo.[total] ORDER BY T_DATE desc
    i am able to see all tags with respect to date except some tags prefix with ----PO, this 'PO' tags also present in the same table, with same time and date like other tags
    B) When executing below script
    Select top 10000 * FROM dbo.[total] where T_Tag like '%PO%' ORDER BY T_DATE DESC
    i am able to see all tags related to  PO
    How i can all tags including 'PO' with one script. can any one help me ??
    acmi

    Venkat,
    Select ToP 10000 [T_idx],[T_Tag], [T_date], [T_counter] from dbo.[total] ORDER BY T_DATE desc
    The above query MAY or MAY NOT give the records with taag ---PO as they might belong to a later data which might not fit into the top 10,000 dates of the table. This shud be the problem.
    If you want to see all the data irrespective of the number of rows, then below shud help:
    Select
    [T_idx],[T_Tag], [T_date], [T_counter]
    from dbo.[total]
    ORDER BY T_DATE desc
    If you need the rows that CONTAIN --PO then folowing shud do it:
    SELECT
    [T_idx],[T_Tag], [T_date], [T_counter]
    FROM dbo.[total]
    WHERE T_Tag like '%PO%'
    ORDER BY T_DATE desc
    If you need just the top 10,000 rows of the above result, then just add a TOP clause as below:
    SELECT
    TOP 10000
    [T_idx],[T_Tag], [T_date], [T_counter]
    FROM dbo.[total]
    WHERE T_Tag like '%PO%'
    ORDER BY T_DATE desc

  • Applescript in Automator behaves differently when executed from inside Automator, or as an Automator application

    Hello everyone,
    I'm trying to execute an Automator workflow at startup, which I do by saving the workflow as an application, and adding it to the startup list, this works fine.
    My workflow works fine when executed from within Automator (ie clicking on the "Execute" button), but does not anymore when the Automator application is executed (ie. simply double clicking on my Automator file)
    I have narrowed it down to an Applescript inside my workflow which fails only when the application is executed from the finder (the step works fine from within Automator). The script automatically creates an ad hoc wifi network.
    The line which specifically fails is :
    set menu_extras to value of attribute "AXDescription" of menu bar items
    Anyone has any idea why executing the workflow from within automator, and executing it from the finder yield different results ?
    The crazy thing is that all this worked fine up until a few days ago, there might have been an update since (running Mavericks 10.9.2), but nothing game-changing.

    You will need to provide more than the one line of AppleScript you quote if you want a definitive answer.  (We can't even see which app you are addressing this to.)

  • Media Encoder crashes when exporting from Premiere Pro

    Media Encoder crashes when exporting from Premiere Pro. I am queueing multiple files for export and Media Encoder will crash. The computer system has 32GB of RAM and the videos export fine in Premiere, but that requires exporting each one individually. Each video file is being down converted and some can be quite long (upwards of 3-5 hours). Nothing else is running on the computer that would take up memory.
    Any idea why Media Encoder will crash?

    Try turning off GPU acceleration.

    I was copying files to my time capsule when it crashed when it was almost finished. Now I am stuck with a light grey folder I can not delete. I would´t care if it wasn´t for the fact the folder is 1 TB size and takes up too much space. I have tried turning on and of Hiding Files in Finder and what not with no success. So, how do I delete this folder. Remember, I am not extremely familiar with technical terms.

    I recommend you erase the TC.. it is the easiest and fastest solution.
    In Airport utility open the disk tab and select erase.. choose quick erase.. it will take less than 1min.
    Start again but copy files in small amounts.

  • Unix script not working when executed from SAP PI communication channel

    Hi Experts,
    I am currently using the Run OS command after message processing functionality of the file adapter.
    However, the unix script doesn't seem to work when run via communication channel.
    The script runs properly when executed manually.
    The communication channel logs don't show any error as well.
    Do you have any ideas as to where the error might be.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi All,
    Thank you for your replies. I appreciate this.
    @Anand, here is the script:
    #!/usr/bin/sh
    #version 1
    hostname=$(uname -a | cut -f 2 -d " ")
    MAILTO="[email protected] "
    homedir=$PWD
    echo $homedir | mailx -m -s "OB10 $hostname" $MAILTO
    /opt/java6/bin/jar -xvf OB10.zip
    ll | mailx -m -s "OB10 $hostname" $MAILTO
    What's puzzling me is that I am able to receive the email alerts.
    This means that the user has sufficient authorization to execute the script.
    But the unzip command is not working.
    I have seen the unzip work when run manually.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Mail crashes when executing a rule that runs an applescript

    I have set up a rule in mail that when executed runs an apple script. Most of the time it crashes mail, but occasionally runs completely or just partially. Doesn't matter what the apple script is, most of the time it will just crash. I've done a clean install of OS X, so the system is in pristeen condition.

    Here is Apple's example script, you can easily view it by turning on the Script menu bar in the AppleScript Utility application, then in Mail hold down the option key while accessing the script menu, Mail Scripts -> Rule Actions -> Sample Rule Action Script

    that you make it clear that the code was descended from Apple sample

    This script is an example of how to write an AppleScript that can be
    attached as a rule action. See Mail Help for details and Mail's
    AppleScript dictionary for the full terminology for the 'perform mail
    action with messages' handler.
    If you attach this script to a rule action, and the rule
    matches an incoming message, a dialog box will display, showing
    the name of the rule that matched and the subject of the message
    that matched. One dialog per matched message will appear.
    This is also an example of how you can write scripts that appear in the
    Scripts menu and can pass in parameters for the selected messages and/or
    mailboxes in Mail's main viewer window.
    using terms from application "Mail"
    on perform mail action with messages theMessages for rule theRule
    tell application "Mail"
    set theText to "This AppleScript is intended to be used as an AppleScript rule action, but is also an example of how to write scripts that act on a selection of messages or mailboxes." & return & return & "To view this script, hold down the option key and select it again from the Scripts menu."
    repeat with eachMessage in theMessages
    set theSubject to subject of eachMessage
    try
    -- If this is not being executed as a rule action,
    -- getting the name of theRule variable will fail.
    set theRuleName to name of theRule
    set theText to "The rule named '" & theRuleName & "' matched this message:"
    set theText to theText & return & return & "Subject: " & theSubject
    display dialog theText
    set theText to ""
    end try
    end repeat
    if theText is not equal to "" then
    display dialog theText buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    end if
    end tell
    end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
    As far as Mail being busy I've disabled, junk mail filtering, set Check for New Mail to Manually and disabled all other rules except the one that I'm trying to debug here. Additionally Mail is only configured for 2 POP mail boxes that are completely empty except for the 1 email message that would meet the rule's condition. I run the rule by right clicking on the email and then selecting Apply Rules.
    The following AppleScript works... instead of using display dialog, I create a new mail message and set the body of the message to the text I want to display... work great!
    using terms from application "Mail"
    on perform mail action with messages theMessages for rule theRule
    tell application "Mail"
    repeat with eachMessage in theMessages
    set theNewBody to subject of eachMessage & return
    set theNewBody to theNewBody & sender of eachMessage & return
    set theNewSubject to "display dialog message..."
    set newMessage to make new outgoing message with properties {subject:theNewSubject, content:theNewBody & return & return}
    tell newMessage
    set visible to true
    end tell
    end repeat
    end tell
    end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
    So it definitely appears to be an issue with the Display Dialog command. Makes debugging scripts kind of hard
    Thanks for your help debugging the issue. I profess I don't know how to read the crash logs, how could you tell that it was the display dialog command, causing Mail to crash? Is there any other info that is in there that could help us figure out why it only crashes about 95% of the time?
    Is there anyway to tell if this has been submitted to apple as a mail/applescript bug? But is there any know work around?

  • ORA-27369 Exit-Code: 255 when executing sql script as job

    Dear all
    I'd like to find and compile all invalid objects in an instance. This should be done every day as a scheduled job with the use of DBMS_SCHEDULER.
    For this, I set up the following sql-script:
    ---------start script--------------
    set heading off;
    set feedback off;
    set echo off;
    Set lines 999;
    Spool /tmp/run_invalid.sql
    select
    'ALTER ' || OBJECT_TYPE || ' ' ||
    OWNER || '.' || OBJECT_NAME || ' COMPILE;'
    from
    dba_objects
    where
    status = 'INVALID'
    spool off;
    set heading on;
    set feedback on;
    set echo on;
    @/tmp/run_invalid.sql
    exit
    ------ end script ----
    The script ist working well when executed manualy via sqlplus. As you can see, it spools the commands to a second file (run_invalid.sql) which is the beeing executed to compile the invalid objects found.
    I now want to schedule this script via DBMS_SCHEDULER (running the job every day at 7AM). Creation of the job:
    BEGIN
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_JOB (
    job_name => 'compile_invalid_objects',
    job_type => 'EXECUTABLE',
    job_action => '/home/oracle/scripts/sql/compile_invalid_objects.sql',
    start_date => trunc(sysdate)+1+7/24,
    repeat_interval => 'trunc(sysdate)+1+7/24',
    enabled => TRUE,
    comments => 'SQL-Script, und invalid objects zu finden und zu kompilieren'
    END;
    Manualy execute and error message:
    BEGIN
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.RUN_JOB (job_name => 'compile_invalid_objects',
    use_current_session => true);
    END;
    FEHLER in Zeile 1:
    ORA-27369: Job vom Typ EXECUTABLE nicht erfolgreich mit Exit-Code: 255
    ORA-06512: in "SYS.DBMS_ISCHED", Zeile 150
    ORA-06512: in "SYS.DBMS_SCHEDULER", Zeile 441
    ORA-06512: in Zeile 2
    --> Sorry for this, I'm using german localized oracle.
    Unfortunately, it seems that only Shell-Scripts can be scheduled when using job_type='EXECUTABLE'. Can you confirm this?
    BTW: The script is chmoded to 777, therefore it can't be a permission problem.
    Is there maybe another solution with one single script using dbms_output functionality and run the script in a loop?
    To complete my post, here are the commands used to create and test the job:
    BEGIN
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_JOB (
    job_name => 'compile_invalid_objects',
    job_type => 'EXECUTABLE',
    job_action => '/tmp/compile_invalid_objects.sql',
    start_date => trunc(sysdate)+1+7/24,
    repeat_interval => 'trunc(sysdate)+1+7/24',
    enabled => TRUE,
    comments => 'SQL-Script, und invalid objects zu finden und kompilieren'
    END;
    Thanks for your help
    Casi

    You could more simply use $ORACLE_HOME/dbms/admin/utlrp.sql

  • QT Player 7.0.2 crashes when encoding from MJPEG into H.264

    Another interesting thing about QT 7.0.2 (first one was 10GB bug, check my earlier thread here) - it crashes when the user switches to another account and back while the QT Player encodes MJPEG video into H.264. How to reproduce this bug, step by step:
    1) open any MJPEG video in QT Player 7.0.2, could be in MOV or in AVI, doesn't make difference which
    2) do File->Export
    3) choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie" in the "Export" drop-down menu
    4) in the "Save exported file as" dialog go to Options->Video->Settings and set H.264 as your output video codec, encoding settings don't make a difference as well
    5) close "Movie settings" dialog, then click "Save" in "Save exported file as" dialog
    6) QT Player starts encoding your MJPEG video into H.264 video, the small "Progress" window appears with a progress bar inside
    7) now switch to another user account using Fast User Switching feature of Windows XP
    8) switch back to the account where QT Player was encoding your MJPEG video
    9) observe the crash window - your QT Player has joined his ancestors now
    Can anyone reproduce this? If yes, please post your crash dump here, so that I can send another bugreport to Apple (10GB bugreport is in the works now, almost done
    If you follow all the steps above and your QT Player does NOT crash, please post the details about your system. My setup is QT Player Pro 7.0.2 and Windows XP Pro SP2. Also post the details about your MJPEG file - the codec you used to encode it (mine two codecs were Pegasus PicVideo 3 and Apple Motion JPEG A), and the resolution (mine was 720x480).

    when i said i couldn't do audio and video at the same time i meant that i cannot edit and process video and at the same time record or edit ADR, sound effects. i have an audio engineer in the audio room working on the audio while i work on the video. is that clear?
    Yeah, now it sounds reasonable. You possibly could do that on a single computer using X Windows or Windows Terminal Server but it's totally different topic.
    as for fast user switching...here's a comment from another forum... "just don't use fast user switching, it isn't implemented well and it breaks some programs"
    "Don't use Windows, it isn't implemented well and doesn't run some poorly written MS-DOS games"
    I found several others in that regard, but you know more about it so i don't need to post links, right? plus a lot of them dealt with quicktime, but again you are the expert.
    If you found anything that's related to QuickTime crashes during account switching, you're welcome to post this concrete info here, it'll help with my bugreport.
    and since you make the inference that i have a cheap system operating on ms-dos which is laughable because that means that you can't read.
    I said that when I read about single-task computers this reminds me about MS-DOS times, but now it looks like it is not about your case, since you have two people working in parallel on two machines.
    i looked up on Yahoo! the terms "mjpeg"+"crashes" and got 16,800 hits. plus i do recall on another forum someone was having problems with mjpeg and the responder said it wasn't a good codec to work with...
    So what's the deal if 95% of these 16800 Yahoo posts are about crash in Premiere or Microsoft Movie Maker or some other buggy tool? You could even search for an f-word, and you'll find a lot of posts with that word, then you can make any conclusion you like about that word being so often cited and then we could start a lengthy discussion about it, but what's the point? I can find 10000 posts about "single task" + "bad" but I'd never use this to justify anything. I give you concrete facts from my experience, so please give me something concrete in return, not 16800 Yahoo posts about something out there.
    "Disadvantages: There's also the problem of recompression. While the human eye can be fooled by JPEG's compression, computers aren't. Thus, when you compress from MJPEG into another format to use for distribution, you will receive a lower-quality picture than if you had a lossless source because there is data missing which, while it's not important to the visual cortex, is very important to a mathematical analysis of things such as color data. The only time you should use MJPEG otherwise is for fast-editing temporary files, but DON'T use them as your final source."
    I know that already, thank you.
    since you said i'm the one who suggested that you use uncompressed video and that doing so the computer doesn't crash...
    You suggested that in a different thread about 10GB MJPEG limitation. That's another bug that may be or may be not related to the crash problem.
    then why don't you work that way and finish your video?
    Yes, I can employ this trick. I will do it if I'm forced to (i.e. if I absolutely have no other way to load MJPEG in QT Player and Apple refuses to fix that crash). However, I'll push Apple with fixing the issue at the same time. Maybe they'll work something out while I'm using uncompressed RGB workaround or some other workaround.
    mjpeg is unstable in that regard so contact the codec manufacturer/developer and ask them why or give them the bug report because it's not apple
    Unfortunately it is Apple, because it's the Apple's software that crashes. All the other codecs and video editors work fine, and there are even conditions when Apple doesn't crash, like loading uncompressed RGB. Since crash is inside QuickTime I will send my bugreport to Apple. If the crash had happened inside the MJPEG codec, I'd have sent the bugreport to

  • How to disable windows dialogue when executing a script

    Hi there.
    I'm trying to automate a task that needs a PSD file to update a layer text.
    For this task my script reads an externar data from www.mydomain.es/resource.cfg.
    Everything has to be done automatically and the script will be programmed to run to a certain hour in my XP machine.
    Data is retrieved, but when  .jsx file tries to run a warning dialog displays in Windows. Something like:
    "Security alert: you are about to execute a script in Photoshop CS4. Do yo want to Continue(button) or Cancel(button).
    This prompt will ruin my script as i need to do everything automatically.
    Does anybody knows how to configure windows, the script or whatever so that the script just executes without asking?
    Thanks so much ofr your help.

    Found the solution:
    I have to place the script in the folder PS CS4 creates for scripts in XP located in documents and settings\user\My Documents\Adobe scripts
    There seems to be a trusted folder and won't display any warning

  • Logic crashing when booting from system drive clone

    Hi,
    So I've been copying system drive clones to another drive for backup, but I find when booting from the (internal HD) clone, Logic 9 will consistently crash on me when trying to open various brands/types of plug-ins.
    For cloning I've tried SuperDuper, which I own, and Carbon Copy Cloner, which I'm running the 30 day trial of, and had identical results.
    Yeah I know it's lame to be using Logic 9, but I have several important projects originally started on 9 that I need to be finishing up now, and those projects don't play nicely with Logic X.
    I'd like to update my OS and Logic X versions, but want to have a working system clone before risking it.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Um right after posting the query I remembered what I had learned probably right here back in yesteryear, and that is there is one thing that doesn't translate in the clone.
    When doing Get Info on the Logic 9 app, there is a check box for "Open in 32-bit mode". I need to have that unchecked, so I can run in 64-bit mode, but for the "clone", that box gets automatically checked, it is NOT actually a clone, hence the issue I was having with plug-ins causing crashes.
    Un-checking that box on the clone solved my issue.
