DB2 Integer YYYYMMDD to a date MM/DD/YYYY within SQL

I am extracting an integer from a DB2 table that serves as a date, for example 20140101 is how it is stored. we want to see it as 01/01/2014.  Problem is you cannot CAST it as a date because it is an integer. We currently use this piece of code to
get into the proper format:
SUBSTR(CAST(INDV_DOB AS VARCHAR(8)),5,2) ||'/'|| SUBSTR(CAST(INDV_DOB AS VARCHAR(8)),7,2) ||'/'|| SUBSTR(CAST(INDV_DOB AS VARCHAR(8)),1,4) AS "DOB",
So the above works but it is still not a true date and therefore I cannot do date calculations. I can dump it to Excel and reformat but I need it to be a true date in SQL. Can you help?

>> I am extracting an integer from a DB2 table that serves as a date, for example 20140101 is how it is stored. we want to see it as 01/01/2014. <<
No, you want to see it as “yyyy-mm-dd”, since this is the only ISO-8601 format allowed in ANSI/ISO Standard SQL.
>> Problem is you cannot CAST it as a date because it is an integer.<<
Can you fire or kill the moron who did this to you? Why are you using VARCHAR(n) when the string are fixed? The only thing he did right was to keep the sorting order of display dates.
Here is the correct string to date expression:
 CAST (SUBSTRING (CAST (@x AS CHAR(8)), 1,4)+ '-'
         + SUBSTRING (CAST (@x AS CHAR(8)), 5,2) + '-'
         + SUBSTRING (CAST (@x AS CHAR(8)), 7,2)
         AS DATE)

  • Data Modeler not available within SQL seveloper

    I've normally used data modeler from within SQL developer but installing SQL developer on a note book computer the data modeler was at first available normally, but when I next opened sql developer the Data modeler did not appear in the File menu. I subsequently downloaded the data modeler separately so I can open it that way but could somebody please advise where I've gone wrong.
    thanks John.

    Hi Kent, yes I thought there must have been an option I turned off. I have tried the Tools> Extensions > data modeller and it did indicate there was an update. But when I select it and continue nothing much happens and then it asks to reboot. But data modeller option is still not in the File menu.

    Hi,
    From the error it looks like the date value is coming as blank in the source. please give the date in the same format as you have provided in datetrans function and test it again. It will work.
    It might be possible that there are some other date fields in your source where you are not passing any value and using datefunction. please look carefully at all the source structure and data.

  • Data Pump .xlsx into a SQL Server Table and the whole 32-Bit, 64-Bit discussion

    First of all...I have a headache!
    Found LOTS of Google hits when trying to data pump a .xlsx File into a SQL Server Table. And the whole discussion of the Microsoft ACE 64-Bit Driver or the Microsoft Jet 32-Bit Driver.
    Specifically receiving this error...
    An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft Office Access Database Engine"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "External table is not in the expected format.".
    Error: 0xC020801C at Data Flow Task to Load Alere Coaching Enrolled, Excel Source [56]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.  The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel Connection Manager"
    failed with error code 0xC0202009.
    Strangely enough, if I simply data pump ONE .xlsx File into a SQL Server Table utilizing my SSIS Package, it seems to work fine. If instead I am trying to be pro-active and allowing for multiple .xlsx Files by using a Foreach Loop Container and a variable
    @[User::FileName], it's erroring out...but not really because it is indeed storing the rows onto the SQL Server Table. I did check all my Delay
    Why does this have to be sooooooo difficult???
    Can anyone help me out here in trying to set-up a SSIS Package in a rather constrictive environment to pump a .xlsx File into a SQL Server Table? What in God's name am I doing wrong? Or is all this a misnomer? But if it's working how do I disable the error
    so that is stops erroring out?

    Hi ITBobbyP,
    According to your description, when you import data of .xlsx file to SQL Server database, you got the error message.
    The error can be caused by the following reasons:
    The excel file is locked by other processes. Please kindly resave this file and name it to other file name to see if the issue will be fixed.
    The ACE(Access Database Engine) is not up to date as Vaibhav mentioned. Please download the latest ACE and install it from the link:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255.
    The version of OFFICE and server bitness is not the same. To solve the problem, please refer to the following document:

  • How to store data into database by reading sql statements from text file

    how to write java program for storing data into database by reading sql statements from text file

    Step 1: Create a property file to add various queries.
    Step 2: Read the properties file using ResourceBundle
    Step 3: Use the jdbc to execute the query read from the property file.
    So in future if you need to change query no need do any modifications in java program. But depends on how you use the property file.

  • In IOS 6 my date format was YYYY-MM-DD. When I switched to IOS 7, it changed to MM-DD-YYYY. How do you change it?

    In IOS 6 my date format was YYYY-MM-DD, which is ISO 8601 standard used in Canada.  When I switched to IOS 7, it changed to MM-DD-YYYY format which is very confusing as all my cameras etc use YYYY-MM-DD.  How do you change it, like one can in OSX?

    It appears previous versions of IOS would pick up your preferred date format from your OSX Mac. You can modify that to whatever you like.
    Now if you select Canadian or American in IOS 7 you get only MM-DD-YYYY.  This is wrong for Canada as the preferred date format here is YYYY-MM-DD, just check your birth or expiry dates on your Ontario Drivers License or OHIP Health Card.  Or the date field at the bottom left of any Government of Canada website.
    The trouble with using other Country codes is you tend to get their currency codes like € or £ and the terms like yesterday and today in their language.

  • An internal database error occurred in the Business Data Connectivity Shared Service. SQL Error Number : 229

     Recently i upgraded my SharePoint server 2013 to SP1, after the upgrade i received following message in manage database Status page " Databases running in compatibility range, upgrade recommended"
    for Business Data Connectivity Database. Then i ran Sharepoint Configuration wizard, which fixed that error on that page but i am getting a error message while accessing BDCApplication page in manage service applications pagein central admin"
    An internal database error occurred in the Business Data Connectivity Shared Service. SQL Error Number : 229
    Sys Log :
    The BDC Service application failed due to a SQL Exception: SQLServer host WSQLD05\DV. The error returned was: 'The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'proc_ar_GetAdministrationMetadataCatalogByPartitionId', database 'sp_BusinessDataConnectivity_DV13',
    schema 'dbo'.'
    I checked the Db role of the service app pool account, it has SPDataAccess permission over the Database. i cant recreate another application without knowing the root cause. I hope i can get better option to troubleshoot the issue.
    Thank you

    As per the error message, you can at least grant the BDC service application pool account the EXECUTE perimssions on the sp_BusinessDataConnectivity_DV13 database

  • How to convert string yyyy-mm-dd to date dd/mm/yyyy

    Hi Experts,
    I am getting date in the form of string 2007-06-30 from R/3. How I can convert this string into a date in the form 30/06/2007. I have to use java.sql.Date.
    Following code is not working. As for executing the following code, I have to use java.util.date. I can not use java.util.date as the Web Dynpro program uses java.sql.Date.
         SimpleDateFormat sdf1 = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/mm/yyyy");
         Date d = null;
         d = sdf1.parse(wdContext.currentContextElement().getDateClicked());
    Regards,
    Gary

    Hi,
    If I understood you right you need this date typed as a java.sql.Date?
    String ds=wdContext.currentContextElement().getDateClicked();
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
    java.sql.Date sd = new java.sql.Date(sdf.parse(ds).getTime());
    Four remarks:
    We "transport" the Date from java.util.Date to java.sql.Date as milliseconds since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 GMT. See contract of java.sql.Date.
    You used dd/mm/yyyy instead of dd/MM/yyyy, but mm are the minutes and not the months, see the contract of [SimpleDateFormat|http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/text/SimpleDateFormat.html] (JSE 1.4) .
    You do not set the time zone for DateFormat, so you use TimeZone.getDefault(). This is your JVM's default time zone and depends (if you did not change it) on your systems time zone. F.e. I live in Germany, the time zone of my system is currently MEZ (which is UTC+1) since we left the daylight saving time zone last sunday. Since you only parse the date and not the time zone f.e., you expect the date (the string) to be in your default time zone. If this is not the case, you have to set the time zone to the time zone you expect the date to be in (f.e. sdf1.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("UTC"));) before parsing the date. This might seem marginal in your case, but may produce unexpected results with date comparisons and date parsings around the day change.
    SimpleDateFormat is not thread-safe, so please do not cache it! This is not mentioned in the Javadoc of JSE 1.4, but can be looked up at [Sun's bug database|http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do;jsessionid=96669461418011fffffffffb70dd6b6e88eb5?bug_id=4264153]. If you are not satisfied with the standard Date & Time handling (f.e. performance reasons) you might want to consider an alternative like [Joda Time|http://joda-time.sourceforge.net/index.html] which is published under [ASF 2.0 license|http://joda-time.sourceforge.net/license.html]

  • What is the easiest way to export all tables data from Oracle to MS SQL Server?

    Hello MS,
    I would like to export all tables from Oracle 11.2 to MS SQL Server 2012 R1.
    Using the tool "Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant v6.0 for Oracle" did not work for me because there are too many warnings and errors regarding the schema creation (MS cannot know it because they are not the schema designer). My idea is
    to leave/skip the schema creation to the application designer/supplier and instead concentrate on the Oracle data export and MS SQL data import.
    What is the easiest way to export all tables data from Oracle to MS SQL Server quickly?
    Is it:
    - the „MS SQL Import and Export Data“ Tool
    - the “MS SQL Integration Services” Tool
    - not Oracle dump *.dmp format because it is a propritery binary format
    - flat file *.csv (delimited format)
    Thanks!

    Hi lingodingo,
    If you want to directly export all tables from Oracle database to SQL Server, I suggest you use SQL Server Import and Export Wizard. Because you just need to follow the wizard with GUI, this is the easiest way.
    If you want to make some modification for the tables‘ data before loading to SQL Server, I suggest you use SQL Server Integration Services package. For more details, please refer to the following similar thread:

  • Validate Date if it falls within 30, 120 and 365 days of the audit date I enter on any given day

    PDF Forms in Acrobat 9 Pro
    When auditing a file, I enter the date I am auditing it.
    Example: 02/18/2015
    I then enter dates of when information was last verified. Some of these dates need to fall within 30 days of the audit date I enter on any give day and others need to fall within 120 days and another within 365 days. If they don't fall within the specified number of days for that field, I would like it to give an error message in that filled.
    Examples:
    College Grad Date 01/15/2015
    Certification Date  12/23/2015
    License Date  02/13/2014 - This is over 365 days so I do not want the date, I want it to display "Need to re-verify"
    I do not have any inkling of an idea of how to write this. Your help would be most appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Solved the problem- I contacted apple on their support line found on this page... http://www.apple.com/uk/support/mac/ and they were really helpful and talked me through what to do on the phone, I now have all three productivity apps. Hope this helps

    Dear Kumar,
    I have checked the datatypes of the table and datatypes of the Pageitems, both the datatypes are same.
    I have created the region using the wizard based on the VO.
    My custom table having only 3 columns and History Columns.Out of 3 columns PersPersonid is Primary key column and I am assigning the sequence value to the column in create method of EO as below
    public void create(AttributeList attributeList) {
    super.create(attributeList);
    setPersPersonid(getOADBTransaction().getSequenceValue("PER_PEOPLE_S"));
    //Here PER_PEOPLE_S is the Sequence
    Thanks,
    Sai
