DBA away from work - trying to complete a restore : one more error!

HI. Oracle 9. UNIX.
I have just restored from production (PROD) backup to test and development server (TEST instance)
I have just tried to open the database with
startup open
but get this error:
ORA-01103 database base name 'PROD' in controlfile is not 'TEST'.
Should I go ahead and locate the control file and change the name there?

Yes I know its been mentioned - thanks for your contribution. So has the issue of recreating the control file by copying it, which is what I need to do.
I need to edit a control file copy. I need to follow a copy / template of a control file as I dont know how to create one from scratch - and anyway, dont I need to list all datafiles?

I have saved the control file as suggested in the link, and Im now looking at this next step:
startup nomount;
@db_create_controlfile.sql
Ofcourse the issue now is to try and save this file in teh TEST directory.

I had the same issue until yesterday. been struggling with it for the last 2 days. I bought the unlocked 4s from the store a week ago and now I cannot upgrade from 6.1 to the higher version.
Although, after searching a lot on the net, I was able to find a software that'll get you out of the recovery mode. Hope this helps. Install the software and click on the 'Recovery Mode Loop Fixer' (2nd tab) and click 'Set Auto Boot True'
The software looks shady but worked.

Trying to complete profile - get invalid number error

I'm attempting to complete my Skype profile, but am running into a problem when trying to enter my mobile number. I've entered it as xxxxxxxxxx and xxx-xxx-xxxx, neither seems acceptable. The error says, "It looks like you entered an invalid number - try again, so friends will have more ways to contact you." Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm in the US and am attempting to use Skype Web (beta). Need to use this for a call on Monday.

Your first literal is not a date, assuming you didn't set NLS_DATE_FORMAT.
So the code should have been
SELECT TO_CHAR(to_date('2010-JUN-23','YYYY-MON-DD'), 'YYYY-MM-DD') FROM DUAL;
Please note DATEs are always converted to VARCHAR2 when you SELECT them, using NLS_DATE_FORMAT.
When you use a DATE string literal it ias always implicitly converted to a real date, by using NLS_DATE_FORMAT.
So if you want all your dates formatted as YYYY-MON-DD, you need to set NLS_DATE_FORMAT to that mask.

How to Prevent Navigating Away From a Page?

Hi all,
I�m developing a JSF application using IBM Rational Application Developer v6.0 and have this scenario:
Background:
I have a page that acts as a 3 step wizard. It also contains links to other pages. The page has a corresponding �pagecode� bean with a request scope and another managed bean with a session scope and basically everything happens here, all the action and action listeners. Also this managed bean handles three important events the �page load�, �page load ends�, and �page post�.
Desired Behavior:
I want to enforce the user to complete all three steps of the wizard without navigating away from this wizard like page by displaying a message �hey you must complete all three steps� or something like that :).
Problem:
The user can click on other links on the page and navigate away from the wizard without completing all three steps.
Any suggestions to this issue would be of great help.

Thanks for your solution. Would this also work for normal html navigation? My understanding that this may only work for the JSF framework navigation rules. On the other hand I also have plain html links on the page and not really sure if the JSF framework also handles these types of navigation.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 7520 ... pretty new. Sometimes when I download a CD / album to my library acouple of tracks get separated away from the main group. I've tried to click and drag the stragglers over to the main group but it doesn't work. Any Ideas

Hey Paul,
If I understand correctly, it sounds like iTunes is not grouping the songs from a particular CD together. The cause could be something as minor as a misspelling or slight variations. For more information, see the following resource:

The problem would seem to be in the firewall in your router. Have you tried disabling it? I assume you've updated the router firmware, right? Consider bypassing the ISP provided router (using it as a modem only) and unsing another device such as an Aiport Express.

I have the same problem and we can't simply just restore from the backup. It says that I have to set up my iPad through restoring. So I tried restoring it in iTunes but it won't restore until I have to turn off this **** "Find My iPad" crap but I couldn't because the set up's not complete and it won't let me go to my settings unless I set it up. So basically it's asking me to go to my settings but before I could go to it I have to restore, and in order to restore I have to go to settings. Get where I'm at?

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Wifi works at home but not when away from home

My Wifi works at home but not when away from home, what is wrong? I thought with a phone plan I didn't need to have a wifi connection.

You either need WiFi or Cellular (or both). If you have neither, you can't connect to the internet.
Most people use WiFi at home and Cellular while away from home, or connect to public WiFi networks where there are some.

I've managed to get back to Pages 4.3 and delete the downgrade Pages 5, which makes a total mess of any doc prepared with it, but how to I get back to the old version of Pages on my iPad so that I can work while I am away from home.

At least on my old PC, Word maintained compatability with old versions. Beginning to regret having switched.

Thanks for your help. What is really irritating is that Apple give a big hurray about what they have added as "new" in Pages 5 (most of it pretty useless) without telling you of the myriad things they have deleted. If they had shown the list your gave the link to, I doubt may regular users would risked going to Mavericks with its auto upgrade. My partner got the message in time and is sticking with the earlier operating systems and Pages on Mac and iPad. Lucky girl.
I have found a way to use my iPad to add chapters written while on the move to reports on my iMac Pages 4.3. If I write it on the new Pages on the iMac (don't seem to be able to revert there), the send the report as an email in WORD format (not Pages) and download it in the Text Editor, then cut and paste into the story on the iMac. Hardly elegant but it works.

Is there a way to get iPods to work away from my wi-fi at home?

When we leave the house the kids are no longer connected to our wi-fi. I thought the iPods would work like my iPhone 4S and would just pick up wherever we are. They have 4th generation iPods. Is it possible to get a data plan through ATT to get them to work away from home or do they just not work like phones? I am assuming that they are still on 3G, but could be wrong. They like iTunes and YouTube, so those don't work without wi-fi. Any help would be appreciated.

Why would you think this? It is not a phone. It has no cellular connection. it only connects via wi-fi.
