DbEnv under mod_perl 2.0/Apache 2.2 worker MPM (multi-threaded)

I'd like to draw your attention to a thread I've opened on the mod_perl mailing list. I'm having difficulties figuring out how to initialize the Berkeley database environment on this particular platform. It may be that mod_perl is not the most suitable choice of platform for developing an application working on Berkeley DB, but still I'm curious to know whether or not this is at all possible, and if not, what are the reasons for this mismatch.
Note that I'm actually using the Perl interface to Berkeley DB XML instead of plain Berkeley DB. However, George Feinberg, the DB XML lead developer (I believe), pointed out that the issues I'm seeing pertain to the setup of the database environment, and that once this has been safely accomplished, the DB XML calls are safe, too. That's why he advised me to bring this issue to the attention of the Berkeley DB forum, which I'm now doing. Here we go:
Initializing Sleepycat::DbXml (Berkeley, Oracle) objects in startup.pl | ModPerl
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/modperl/modperl/98849
It may be that a precise answer would require a lot of knowledge of the very particular mod_perl 2.0 multi-threaded platform and its intricacies, which I don't have myself and I know is not commonly found, as Perl has ceded a lot of ground to PHP and Java. But maybe there is someone here who can help.
The fundamental issue here is the setup of the environment. There has to be (1) a thread of control doing recovery on startup, and then (2) any number of threads of control which may or may not share environment handles. How could this be accomplished in this particular environment?
If you're interested in this issue, please follow the link to the mod_perl mailing list and see what's there. Note you can switch between flat and threaded view.
Thanks.

Its been a long time since I messed with this, I ended up using Tomcat standalone, hopefully someone with more experience will reply to you after this post!
But as I remember, it was set up using a wildcard *.jsp to pass JSP files off to tomcat for processing. Apache cannot process jsp, which is why Tomcat is used as a plugin.
The page showing the examples is HTML, whereas the examples themselves are JSP.
Have you told Apache to pass all *.jsp's to Tomcat for PROCESSING.
You are not simply telling apache to open these files, rather Apache tells Tomcat to open and process the files.
Hope this makes sense and is of some use.

  • How do I get Apache web server working ...

How do I get Apache web server working on my MacBook Pro, which is running Leopard 10.5.8?
When I enter 'http://localhost/~username/' (without the quote marks) as a URL in my Firefox browser on the MacBook, I do not see any result at all(!). I do have Web Sharing on in System Preferences on that machine. But the browser does nothing whatever for that URL ...
On my other computer, an iMac running Leopard 10.5.8, when I enter 'http://localhost/~username/' I see the default "Your Website Here" page. That same default page is in fact the index.html file I expect to see on the MacBook Pro. But it isn't getting invoked for some reason. Nothing is happening ...
When on the iMac I try 'http://10.0.1.18/~username/' (10.0.1.18 is the local IP address I see under 'Web Sharing: On' on the MacBook) I get "Unable to connect: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 10.0.1.18."
When on the MacBook I try 'http://10.0.1.5/~username/' (10.0.1.5 is the local IP address I see under 'Web Sharing: On' on the MacBook) I see the default "Your Website Here" page.
It is the same on my iPhone: Using the same local IP addresses and usernames, Safari can see the index.html page on my iMac but not on my MacBook.
It looks as if Apache is not working on the MacBook, while on the iMac it works fine.
On the MacBook I can see (after I use 'defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE' in Terminal) a /private/etc/apache2/ directory with what look to be(?) the usual contents. So it looks like Apache is duly installed, as far as I can tell.
On the MacBook I don't see a file at /private/var/log/apache2/error_log, which is the location for 'ErrorLog' given in the httpd.conf file.
That about exhausts my understanding of how to get a handle on my problem.
Any advice or suggestions from those who have more expertise with Apache will be much appreciated ...

Okai, so we are getting somewhere, but not quit there yet :-)
I opened the Kenneth.conf file using the command: vi Kenneth.conf
    This is what it said:
    <Directory "/Users/Kenneth/Sites/">
    Options Indexes Multiviews
    AllowOverride AuthConfig Limit
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
    "Kenneth.conf" [readonly] 6L, 139C
I therefore changed the AllowOverride from AuthConfig Limit to None, which was the only difference from what you posted above. Something did change, when I tried to open XAMPP it prompted me a password, but Apache still wont start :-/

  • FollowSymLinks Apache directive not working in Lion

I'm creating symbolic links in /Library/WebServer/Documents & I'm getting permissions errors.
This works fine on Snow Leopard, not on Lion.
I note that the httpd.conf file entry for /Library/WebServerDocuments sets the following options:
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
So, it should be working, I would think.  The links are owned by root/wheel and have lrwxr-xr-x permissions.
The directory being linked is owned by <me>/wheel, and has rwxr-xr-x permissions.
As an also - I tried to create the personal website folder in the web sharing preferences.  It created a 'sites' folder in my '~' folder.  I can't navigate into that, either...
I've stopped and started the apache2/httpd server several times - no change.
Not sure where to go from here... maybe a groups/ownership issue?

I have the same problem. My situation is symlink could only work under /Library/WebServer/Documents, but does't work under ~/Sites. Even when they are in the same directory. For example:
http://me.local/test.aaa.js     => this could be visited, and it is located at: ~/Sites/test.aaa.js
    If i ln -s test.aaa.js test.js under ~/Sites,
visiting http://me.local/test.js would give "403 Forbidden".
    and in apache log,
"Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible"
    Dont know what's wrong...(OSX 10.7.3)
    Have you fix this problem?

  • I seem to have 2 Apple IDs, one on my MacBook Pro and another on my devices.  If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs

Can I get rid of one  ID?  How do I do that?

    one on my MacBook Pro
That's not an Apple ID. That is your admin account which you can view in System Preferencs > Accounts or Users & Groups.
If I switch from MobileMe to iCloud on my Mac (under the apple logo) will my devices work and sync in iCloud.  I have no idea how I go 2 IDs
Just use your current Apple ID when you setup your iCloud account that you use for your devices.

  • Multi threading under single file channel

    Hi,
      We have File-Proxy scenario .
We are using fCC sender channel and using
    recordset sequence as varaibale
    recordsets per message was 250.
When large size file like 2GB was processed, PI is taking 45-50 min to process the file and from proxy end its taking 8 hrs to process this file.
we are using one channel and 250 recordsets per message by chunking file and process to target. We are following EOIO for sequence for these chunk files.
with this approach in PI target system proxy is taking huge time to process.
experts suggested using multi threading and multiple channels are the ideal solution for this issue.
am expecting with multiple channels and multi threading  will cause issue for receiver proxy  because of more objects and current approach is fine.
Please suggest any other alternatives we can acheive in PI with respect to this issue?
Note: I checked blog for file chunk option under Adv parameters and I cant use that here as FCC and Mapping is there .
    Rgds,
    aman

    Hi Aman,
We had file to proxy interface and the XML payload of the proxy was around 400mb...to reduce the time taken in PI in mapping step we reduced the XML payload of the proxy by cutting the XML tagnames.
for example an xml field <firstname>Anand</firstname> was converted to <f>Anand</f>
with this we were able to achieve about 40-50% reduction in XML payload the file and a good improvement in the time taken by PI mapping to process the file.
    Hope it helps,
    Thanks,
    Anand

  • Connection to database under JDeveloper 10.0.1 is not working

Full version of Oracle 10g (including Oracle JDeveloper 9.0.4) is instaled in Oracle-home directory "c:\DevSuiteHome".
I have instaled Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.2 in other Non-Oracle directory "c:\JDev102", so I have both version of JDeveloper instaled.
The same connection to database is working correctly under JDeveloper 9.0.4, and not working under JDeveloper 10.0.1.
When I test connection under JDeveloper 10.0.1, next message is displayed:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified

    Hi,
This exception is thrown when different versions of the dependencies are being picked up and loaded by the process.
Are you deploying the application or a specific machine?
What type of application is being tested here? i.e console, ASP.NET, etc.
Make sure you are referencing the 11.2.0.1.1 assembly and that DLLPATH in the registry to pointing to the proper location for its dependencies.
Make sure there are no old versions of the ODP dependencies in the application/bin directory and that you are picking up the assembly from the GAC.

  • Does Apache Virtual Hosting work with localhost?

I'm a newbie trying to learn how apache web server works. I've activated apache web server on my Mac PowerBook G4, and tweaked the config file to get PHP, SSI and CGI working.
If I type the url http://127.0.0.1/ I get the same page as http://localhost/
If localhost is the domain name for the address 127.0.0.1, can I assign other domain names to 127.0.0.1 using apache's virtual hosting?
    Ti Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

localhost is defined as 127.0.0.1. You can use them interchangeably.
As for virtual hosts, sure. Apache doesn't care.
There are two ways of running virtual hosts.
Port-based virtual hosts use a port number other than the standard 80. They can be accessed via something like http://localhost:8000/
Name-based virtual hosts look at the hostname header in the request to work out which site to serve. You can run any number of sites on the same port number this way, but you need to be able to control DNS so that it points to your machine.
    If you are just testing this locally you can edit /etc/hosts to add whatever hostnames you like;
    127.0.0.1 localhost my.testsite.com me.mydomain.com
Now when you enter 'my.testsite.com' or 'my.mydomain.com' in your web browser, /etc/hosts will resolve this to 127.0.0.1 and you'll talk to your local apache server.
Note that the localhost entries don't have to be in your domain. You can use this to override any real hostname you like.
Of course, if you want remote users to access this site you'll need to setup something in the DNS, or edit their /etc/hosts files individually.

  • Apache won't work after 10.5.2 update

Apache won't work, after I installed the 10.5.2 update.
When I type the following in the terminal: sudo apachectl -t
    I get a error:
    /usr/sbin/apachectl: line 81: 711 Segmentation fault $HTTPD $ARGV
Does anyone know how I can solve this?
    thank you!

I too had the same problem after the auto update 10.5.2 - specifically the 2008-002 update broke my machine in a number of areas.
I downloaded the package and ran it, this seems to have mopped up the problems caused my the first run.
    The update is located at:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/security_updates/
    Look for 2008-002 (Leopard) it's about 50MB.
Hope this works for you too.

  • Weblogic Http Apache Plugin not working

    Hi,
I have installed weblogic server 10.3 on WindowsXP Professional and Http Apache 2.2 is running on port 80. I followed the following document to configure the Apache plugin:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs103/plugins/apache.html
but when I go and test the plugin it always comes back with 404 page not found. As per the documentation I am testing it as
    http://localhost:80/weblogic/
    Here is my httpd.conf
    Include "C:/bea/alui/plumtreeconf/"
    # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file.  It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
    # In particular, see
    # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
    # for a discussion of each configuration directive.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/logs/foo.log".
    # NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
    # instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
    # If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
    # will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
    # an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path.  If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
    # at a local disk.  If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
    # httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
    ServerRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2"

  • Apache 2.0, Apache 1.3 and mod_dav? Will apache 2.0 work?

I am just beginning the process of installing intermedia on a win 2k , 9i database configuration. I noted that the mod_dav module is not listed under the module listing for apache 1.3.
    see-http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/index.html
The mod_dav module though is listed for apache 2.0. Will intermedia work with apache 2.0? Apache states that 2.0 differs substantially from 1.3.
    Thanks-

I assume you will need to use file based mod_dav? Are you interested in ora_dav?
In general, the new direction is to use the intermedia java classes or the PL/SQL agent to store/deliver images into/from the database. It is quite easy to create a servlet with the same functionality as the interMedia web agent, but more flexible and will work in more environments. There is a simple photo album application that illustrates how to use the java classes.
The javadoc on the classes is:
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/intermedia/htdocs/intermedia_servlet_jsp_software/index.html
    The photo album example is:
    http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/products/intermedia/htdocs/intermedia_servlet_jsp_samples/imedia_servlet_jsp_readme.htm
The PL/SQL interMedia web toolkit is a web based tool that allows you to create PL/SQL procedures for the storage and delivery of multimedia objects using an Oracle database. It is a browser based GUI that will allow you to create and test the procedures.

  • Can't get Apache mod_jk To Work In Mountain Lion

    Hi,
I'm trying to get Apache and Tomcat to communicate via mod_jk. I have had this working fine in the past on servers running 10.4 through 10.6.
Now whenever I try to load the mod_jk module with 'JKMount /appname/* ajp13' in my virtual hosts file Apache barfs at startup with the unhelpful message...
    [Fri Jan 18 11:00:28 2013] [notice] Apache/2.2.22 (Unix) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.22 OpenSSL/0.9.8r configured -- resuming normal operations
[Fri Jan 18 11:00:32 2013] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down
Everything else in my config is taken directly from a setup that works under Snow Leopard and I have (after much pain and grief) compiled and installed the latest version of mod_jk under Mountain Lion.
Has anyone got mod_jk working under Mountain Lion? Is there a better forum for this question...
    cheers

OK, it seems that mod_jk isn't getting loaded by Apache and I can't figure out why. No error messages or anything?

  • Apache CGI not Working

For some reason scripts, including the ones packaged with FMIS 3.5.2, are not executing in the script alias defined in httpd.conf. When I access a cgi script from a browser it simply prints the code to the screen, but I can execute the scripts from the command line. Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

    http://xerces.apache.org/mirrors.cgi#binary
Also needs to be under Java 1.6

  • Help~~Apache doesn't work!!

    I've just installed Oracle9i application server 1.0.2.2.2a with Oracle 8.1.7 on win2000.
    But Appache doesn't work.
    The error message is following...
No such file or directory: Config file wdbsvr.app inaccessible thru env var WV_GATEWAY_CFG
Because I'm a beginner I have no idea why it doesn't work.
    Please help me....
    Thanks in advance...
    Brad

It is exactly what the error message says:
No such file or directory: Config file wdbsvr.app inaccessible thru env var WV_GATEWAY_CFG
    this is how to fix:
    1. Right click on 'My computer' > Properties > click on the 'Advanced' tab > click on 'Environmental Variables'.
    2. Under System Variables, go to the last line 'WV_GATEWAY_CFG'
    3. Your variable Value should be C:\ORACLE\iSuites\Apache\modplsql\cfg\wdbsvr.app
Make sure your drive letter and installation path are correct.
    4. Restart your computer. Apache should work.
    Good Luck.
