Dbms_job - running update on another schema is failing

Hi all,
I believe I've traced my problem down to a permissions issue, but I'm not exactly sure why.
I have three users in a particular database. One user has DBA access, one user is there just to be the owner of everything and a third user which will be the account our web app uses to connect so we can assign privliges appropriately.
I'm signed in as the DBA account (not SYS) and I can run a simple update statement on a table in the main schema:
insert into mainuser.bloodtype (blood_type) values('z');
Do a commit, and it's all good. Now I try putting that same SQL into a job:
DECLARE
jn binary_integer;
begin
     DBMS_JOB.SUBMIT(jn, 'insert into mainuser.bloodtype (blood_type) values(''z'');',SYSDATE + 1/1440);
     DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(jn);
     commit;
END;
When I check all_jobs, the job is there with the SQL listed exactly as it should be executed however the job ends up failing. Now I tried something similar but working strictly inside the DBA's schema and it works fine. So there must be something I'm missing due to permissions...but since the SQL works outside the job I'm not sure what it is. Is there a view or log I could look at in order to determine what the cause of the failure is, or does anyone know exactly why this is failing?
The ultimate goal here is to grant the webuser account enough privliges to submit jobs in order to execute SQL to update items in the database based on a scheduled time. I'm just testing right now using the DBA account as I thought this would be easy to get working.
Thanks.

.......wouldn't you know it worked now.?!
I'm not sure I understand the 'why' behind that though....it sort of makes roles a bit useless, no?No.

  • Running sql against another schema in same db

    Inside forms i need to check all other schemas to see if a record exists in any of the other schemas
    so im doing a loop based on a cursor of select username from all_users and would need to then inside do something along the lines of
    select column from schema.table where column = x
    I normally would use execute immediate via a new procure to do this but it seems overkill and wondered if there was no built in via forms ?

    I would do it using your "overkill" method: create a function, pass in column and tablename as parameters (if required) and call the function from the form.
    My forms development philosophy is to put as much logic into the db as stored procedures rather than in the individual forms.

  • Can a dbms_job.run execute a job that execute another dbms_job.run?

    Hi,
    I'm using Oracle9iR2 database.
    I create a package procedure that loop through a list of jobs from user_jobs table and run it using dbms_job.run(jobid).
    Then I schedule this package procedure as a job (say JobA) itself to execute the above procedure every 15 minutes.
    However, it always fail. When I execute JobA manually from sqlplus, I get the folllowing error. Any idea what's wrong?
    SQL> exec dbms_job.run(55805);
    BEGIN dbms_job.run(55805); END;

    Hi,
    I am bchurn's colleague who is currently also looking into this problem. The code that we have is similiar to yours except there's a cursor looping through all the failed jobs and executing them.
    I am not sure what is the actual difference but it is actually a job running a procedure instead of through SQL Plus.
    However, we found out that a job cannot run another job. But it seems to be alright with your settings :-/
    What we have is actually a job created for every email to be sent out to our users (jobA). But many a times, the emails were not sent out because of unknown problems (during that time - I think it's the ORA-00600 error).
    The last time we created the second job (jobB) for the purpose of re-executing failed jobA jobs. The errors are that a job cannot execute another job.
    Then, we worked around to change jobB to re-adjust the execution time for all the jobA jobs instead of directly reexecuting them. While some failed jobA jobs are executed successfully because of it, some still remains. We found out that the errors from failed execution of jobA jobs as following:
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kgassg_2], [], [], [], [], [], [], []
    ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 555 5.5.4 <fieldNameHere> parameter unrecognized
    The second error very seldom. First one most common. The jobs eventually being executed successfully after many re-execution (sometimes about 3 to 4 times, some over 20 or 60 times). Anyone can give suggestions or inputs on the first error? The error log file and its trace files do not give much information on the errors with something like the following:
    Error log file:
    Errors in file /opt/app/oracle/products/920/admin/testapp/bdump/somefilename.trc:
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kgassg_2], [], [], [], [], [], [], []
    And when I go and search for the somefilename.trc, it does not exist.
    Any idea on how to solve this or identifying the actual problem?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Create user who can update another schema table

    Hi,
    We have a prod system under which we need to update  the application schema by running different update statement and  create/execute function,procedure,package body. This is very easy if you use the owner schema. But i need to run those activities from another user due to some restriction. How can i do that??
    May u suggested to give update any table privilege..but this would give all the dictionary table access also.
    Is there any privilege that would allow any other user to update another schema table without using the schema name infront of the table name??
    Plss suggest

    John,
    Can we use public synonym for it ?  I don't know the security risk for it though :

  • HT1926 I installed the itunes update on my regular PC. The update failed and produced an error in MSVCR80.DLL I spoke to an apple tech about it. He blames Microsoft for the error. I did the same update on another PC and it produced the same error. Itunes

    The iTunes update is causing a problem on PC's resulting in an error pointing to MSVRC80.DLL. I called Apple Support they blame Microsoft.....(What a surprise!).
    I did a second update on another pc and it produced the same problem with the same DLL file. Apple still says it's not their problem. Unfortunately until they acknowledge the problem and correct it iTunes is no longer functional. That's too bad but Windows Media Player works fine.
    Apple, own up to the problems you create. Don't pull an Obama!
    When enough people have the problem it will force Apple to correct it. Everyone on a PC using iTunes who try the update will have this problem.

    Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
    Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
    The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
    Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Connect role allows user to update/delete row of a table of another schema

    I am using oracle 9i r2, I created a user and only give him CONNECT role. Then I opened the sqlplus and found that he could query table of another schema which doesn't belong to the new user, but the thing which scares me most is that when I tried to update/delete a row from a table of another schema, it succeeded. Also, I created a new role with system priviledges CREATE_SESSION and SELECT_ANY_TABLE then granted to new user and revoked the CONNECT role but the same thing happened like before. What I am doing wrong? By the way, I am trying to create a read only user. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys for the tips. I have forgotten to mention that this situation happened only in a new created schema which has only a table and the table was exported from another oracle db( I pre-created the user with connect role and assign the tablespace etc), the import worked fine. Then I used a read only user(in different schema) to update/delete row to the imported table.The read only user can't update/delete other schemas besides from the new one. Is that I missed something when importing the table or pre-create user, tablespace, etc? Thanks in advance.

  • Exp XML Schema (.xsd) to another schema on same instance

    Hello,
    I hope someone on this forum can help me or point me in the correct direction. I want to export a schema which contains a table (EQUIPMENT) which has a XMLType column defined against a registered .xsd. I would then like to restored this schema to another schema on the same instance (development instance) and also onto another db instance.
    I have been trying to do this with the help of "Chapter 30 Importing and Exporting XMLType Tables" from the Oracle® XML DB Developer's Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.2). Unfortunately without success. At the end of this message I have encluded sample error messages that I am receiving for creation of TYPES which is causing my import to fail.
    I cannot find any examples on the web on how to achieve an exp from one schema and imp in another either on the same instance or another one.
    DDL for my table is :
    create table EQUIPMENT
    ID number(7) not null,
    STATUSID number(7) not null,
    ATTRIBUTEDATA xmltype
    xmltype column ATTRIBUTEDATA xmlschema "EQUIPMENT.xsd" element EQUIPMENT_XML
    tablespace TBS_DATA1;
    Three test runs as follows:
    1. Using an empty u2 schema and I register the .xsd file. Then I try to import (FROMUSER - TOUSER imp mode) my dump file which leads to the following error:
    IMP-00017: following statement failed with ORACLE error 2304:
    "CREATE TYPE "MTA1440_T" TIMESTAMP '2007-11-14:14:42:16' OID '3EE57B10307317"

    IMP-00003: ORACLE error 2304 encountered
    NOTE: Even though import failed, I now see a new TYPE created called "MTA1526_T".
    2. If I try to create the TYPE as is from the error above I get the following error:

    6 ATTRIBUTE_03 VARCHAR2(4000 CHAR),
    7 ATTRIBUTE_04 NUMBER(38),
    8 ATTRIBUTE_05 VARCHAR2(4000 CHAR)) FINAL INSTANTIABLE;
    9 /
    CREATE TYPE MTA1440_T
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-02304: invalid object identifier literal
    3. So now I create the "MTA1440_T" type without the OID value and retry the import.
    IMP-00061: Warning: Object type "U2"."MTA1440_T" already exists with a different identifier
    "CREATE TYPE "MTA1440_T" TIMESTAMP '2007-11-14:14:42:16' OID '3EE57B10307317"
    "74E044080020C94102' AS OBJECT ("SYS_XDBPD$" "XDB"."XDB$RAW_LIST_T",""
    "ATTRIBUTE_01" NUMBER(38),"ATTRIBUTE_02" VARCHAR2(4000 CHAR),"ATTRIBUTE_03" "
    "VARCHAR2(4000 CHAR),"ATTRIBUTE_04" NUMBER(38),"ATTRIBUTE_05" VARCHAR2(4000 "
    "CHAR))FINAL INSTANTIABLE "
    Questions from me:
    A. Can I export TYPES only as suggested by the online documentation ?
    B. If importing onto same instance in another schema surely the OID for the TYPE will always fail - so then why can the import not create the required TYPE name itself during the import ?
    C. Should I use global TYPES and Register the .XSD globally for all schema's in an instance to validate against .. would this prevent me from having errors on an import ?
    I would appreciate any insight any one could provide me. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Guys,
    Thank you all for the replies. I am dissappointed to hear that in 10g does not support exp/imp of schema's structured XML. However I am a little confused or should I say mislead by the "" documentation I
    Here is an extract from chapter "30 - Importing and Exporting XMLType Tables" from the Oracle XML DB 10g Developers Guide documentation:
    "..... Oracle Database supports the import and export of XML schema-based XMLType tables. An XMLType table depends on the XML schema used to define it. Similarly the XML schema has dependencies on the SQL object types created or specified for it. Thus, exporting a user with XML schema-based XMLType tables, consists of the following steps:
    1. Exporting SQL Types During XML Schema Registration. As a part of the XML
    schema registration process .....
    2. Exporting XML Schemas. After all the types are exported, XML schemas are
    exported as XML text .....
    3. Exporting XML Tables. The next step is to export the tables. Export of each table consists of two steps:
    A. The table definition is exported as a part of the CREATE TABLE statement....
    B. The data in the table is exported as XML text. Note that data for out-of-line
    tables is.....
    From this documentation I was under the impression that the exp/imp of XML Schema-Based XMLType Tables was supported.
    Regarding the backup mechanism/strategy for database schema's containing tables with Schema-Based XMLTypes what would you recommend the best online backup method to use - tablespace backups ?
    What I need to be able to do in day-to-day work is to have the ability to be able to take a copy of a customers UAT or production database schema and apply it to a dev or test db instance here for bug testing etc. Do you have any advice on best to achieve this without the use of an exp/imp when the schema will contain Schema-Based XMLType tables.
    Thank you all for your assistance so far.

  • How to restrict one user making DDL changes in another schema

    can anyone please let me know the way to restrict a user making the DDL changes Through Procedure (This user have the execute privilege on procedure owner by another schema) on another schema.
    Let say we have schema A and B. our requirement is, The User A should grant execute privilege on all the procedure that are created on A to user B, but if at all there is a situation a procedure is created with DDL changes(with execute immediate option) and gave the execute privilege to the user B, Then user B can make DDL changes through this procedure. i wanted to restrict user B making DDL changes any way to user A .
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Karthik

    Your requirement doesn't sound terribly sensible.  If you want B to be able to execute the procedure, grant B access to the procedure.  If you don't want B to be able to execute the procedure, don't grant B access.  If you are concerned that someone is going to change the code in the procedure after it is created to transform it from something that you want B to have access to into something that you don't want B to have access to, you should be reviewing changes before they are promoted.
    If you're really determined to do things "uniquely", I suppose you could create a DDL trigger that looks to see who the user is and throws an exception if it is B.  But that seems like a poor second choice to dealing with the problem sensibly from the outset.
    If you aren't reviewing the changes and building code that tries to check whether something bad got slipped in, you're going to be fighting a losing battle.  If you write a DDL trigger that checks the user, for example, and I'm a developer that's intent on creating holes, I could simply add code to a procedure that submits a dbms_job that executes DDL.  That job would run as A so your DDL trigger would let it pass.  Of course, you could then turn around and disable DBMS_JOB in which case I could use DBMS_SCHEDULER instead.  You could disable that as well but then you're disabling the scheduler jobs that Oracle runs by default for things like gathering statistics.  And then the rogue developer simply moves on to the next hole to exploit.

  • How do I view package bodies in another schema ?

    For purposes of SOX and security/audit control, we log in under our network id's in our production environment. We have sourcecode compiled into Oracle seeded schemas ( APPS ) so that scheduled jobs are able to run with submitted from the Oracle Applications environment. We don't compile code into our personal network account areas.
    I know how to GRANT EXECUTE privs so that we can execute a package in another schema, but what I want to do is to be able to view the sourcecode in another schema. Compile into APPS but be able to see the package body from my network id schema account.
    I can't seem to find what the correct permission is anywhere. Granted I can look at DBA_SOURCE to get to it, but I want to use a tool like SQL Developer or TOAD to look at the code in a more presentable and easier to debug manner.
    Any help ?

    I did some more searching on the forum... seems its already a request... TOAD gives access to DBA_Views to resolve the issue... SQL Developer has not integrated that functionality yet, but forum entries seem to indicate that it is on the horizon.
    Thanks for responding though.

  • Hello, I have created a distribution kit for my program.The problem is that the when the program is installed onto another computer, it fails to communicate with field point (Using FP-AO-200 and FP-AO-1000). Help is greatly appreciated, Thanks faen9901

    Hi Everyone,
    I have a program that sends information(analog output) to lab windows cvi in the form of a text file or user input.
    The program runs on the computers that I have the field point explorer and lab windows cvi installed on. In order to run the program without always installing labwindows/cvi and field point; I wanted to create an executable file that could be load on another computer.
    I used the create distribution kit part of labwindows/cvi to do this.After creating the distribution kit, I then installed it
    to another computer.
    My user interface appears on the screen, when the user clicks on the exe. file, but no data is sent to the field point module. I know that the data is being read from the user and textfile because in it appears in the uir.
    The following are some details about the problem:
    1. On another computer without labwindows/cvi and field point explorer not installed - no data is sent to field point module
    I know this because a current is being read on the current meter connected to field point module.
    My questions are the following:
    1. What are the possible reasons for the data not being sent to the field point module?
    2. Do I still need to create an iak. (Installing Field point Explorer) file stored on any new computer that I install my created distribution kit file too?
    Thankyou very much for any help that you can provide. I greatly appreciate it.
    Faen9901

    Re: Hello, I have created a distribution kit for my program.The problem is that the when the program is installed onto another computer, it fails to communicate with field point (Using FP-AO-200 and FP-AO-1000). Help is greatly appreciated, Thanks faen9901Faen9901,
    1) If you do not install FieldPoint Explorer, the FieldPoint Server is not installed so there is nothing on the target computer that knows how to talk to the FieldPoint system.
    2) Yes, you need an IAK file on the target computer. Assuming the settings (i.e. com port#) are identical you can simply include the iak file as part of the distribution.
    3) You also need to include as part of your installer the file "fplwmgr.dll". If this file is not installed, your program will not be able to access the FieldPoint Server. Alternatively, this file is installed automatically if FieldPoint Explorer detects LabWindows/CVI or Measurement Studio Development versions on the target computer or if you choose to do a custom FieldPoint Explorer installation and
    choose to provide LabWindows/CVI support.

  • How to share data in "User_*" tables with another schema

    I would like to share the data in the USER_SEGMENTS table with another schema. If I create a view and grant select on the view, when the other schema queries the view the data is identical to themselves querying the SYS.user_segments table directly.
    create view sys_user_segments as select * from sys.user_segments;
    grant select on sys_user_segments to A;My guess is that the SYS.user_segments table is a view based on the current user.
    Is there a way to share this data without creating a copy of the table?
    Oracle: 10g
    Thanks

    Hi,
    All the data dictionary "tables" whose names start with user_ (or all_ or dba_) are actually views, and what results they bring back depend on what schema you logged in to. I don't think there's any way to allow user A to directly see what's in user B's version of user_segments.
    Why do you need this? Can you use the all_ views instead, by giving A some privileges on B's objects?
    Failing that, you can replicate the data into a regular table. Inside a AUTHID DEFINER stored procedure, the data dictionary views (such as user_segments) are the versions of the procedure owner, so B can write a stored procedure (let's call it populate_my_segments) that populates a regular table (let's call it my_segements), and then grant EXECUTE privilges on populat_my_segments and SELECT privileges on my_segements to user A. A can then refresh the table and look at it whenever he wants to.
    If A only needs to see a little information, e.g. the total number of bytes, from B's user_segments, then B can write a function just to return that information.

  • Form based on a view -  FRM-40654: Record has been updated by another user.

    Hi All,
    I am hoping that somebody can help me with this problem that is occurring only when I try an update a record in forms.
    I have a block based on a join-view, I can insert no problems, but I can only update certain records within the block. If I come across a second record that is similar to the first except for primary key and a couple of other values and try and update that record forms gives me the following message FRM-40654: Record has been updated by another user. Re-query to see change.
    The first record I have no problems in updating and I have followed a number of suggestions to get this to work, like setting the key-mode of the block to updateable/non-updateable and setting the primary key to 'yes' for some of the database items. I have also created procedures within the database that are called by triggers on-insert, on-update etc.
    If anybody has any ideas how I can solve this I would be happy to hear your suggestions.
    Thanks in Advance.

    1) In the block properties change the Key Mode property of the block to be Non-Updatable Primary Key
    2) Mark one or more columns as Primary Key in the item Property Palette - in this instance you would set the property for Empno.
    Enforce Primary Key = no
    Key Mode = Unique
    Update Changed Columns Only = Yes
    I found a bug entry that is supposed to be fixed in Patch 9 of Forms 6i (assuming you are running 6i). So if you could try with a more recent Patch set (e.g. 14) then probably the problem will go away.

  • How do I reset the "Firefox is being updated by another instance" message?

    I was attempting to update Nightly via the "About Nightly" window. I got a message about a failed upgrade and a link to download a fresh copy of Nightly, so I did. I closed Nightly and overwrote my existing copy with the fresh download and reopened.
    Ever since then, the "About Nightly" window has a message "Nightly is being updated by another instance" and won't look for updates. Is there any way to reset whatever is tracking this to force my new Nightly instance to update again? I've tried restarting in Safe Mode and I don't use antivirus, so I'm pretty sure this has something to do with overwriting my copy of Nightly before it could mark its update attempt as finished.

    You can always follow the Nightly threads in Firefox Builds at mozillaZine forums, a place where many Testers hang out. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23
