DBTIMEZONE of 2 databases in same ORACLE_HOME

Hello All,
I have 2 databases in same ORACLE_HOME. When I ran follwoing SQL
SELECT dbtimezone FROM v$database;
For one database I got -8:00 and for another I got -7:00. There is one hour difference in both the offsets. One database was created in December and another is created in June. Do you think the difference is because of the DST. The databases are in California, USA (Pacific Standard Time).
Thanks & Regards,
BB.

This is likely the reason according to the CREATE DATABASE documentation if you did not specify time zone parameter at database creation time:
Oracle Database normalizes all TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE data to the time zone of the database when the data is stored on disk. If you do not specify the SET TIME_ZONE clause, then the database uses the operating system time zone of the server. If the operating system time zone is not a valid Oracle Database time zone, then the database time zone defaults to UTC.

  • Multiple database patching in one go (sharing same oracle_home) ?

    hi,
    good day.
did any one experience running "startup upgrade" for more 3 databases sharing same oracle_home?
i mean, did any one tried to apply database patchset 3/4 (command-set given below) to more than one databases (sharing one oracle_home) at the same time to minimize the downtime?
    SQL> STARTUP UPGRADE
    SQL> SPOOL patch.log
    SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/catupgrd.sql
    SQL> SPOOL OFF
or it can ONLY be done on one-by-one basis?
    database: 10.2.0.2
    plateform: hpux 11.31
An earliest response will be highly oblidged..

    hi andrewmy,
you said, we can upgrade different databases simultanously in different telnet/ssh sessions after patching the oracle_home.
    hi chinar,
i agree, we have to run catupgrd.sql script for every database. my question was that can we run multiple catupgrd.sql for multiple databases after patching oracle_home successfully?
After patch installing you have run catupgrd.sql for multiple database only once time. For more information refer upgrade guide and note of this patch.
so, finally, are you both agree that we can run multiple catupgrd.sql scripts for multiple databases concurrently?
    right ?
Yes,you can execute these concurrently, but your server need more resource.
did any one tried it before, is that speedy as compared to one by one db-upgrade procedure?
The speed of upgrade depend your server resource CPU/RAM.

  • How do I create multiple databases on the same ORACLE_HOME

    Hi,
I would like to know how can I create 2 databases on the same ORACLE_HOME? Also is it possible to start both databases at the same time?
When I installed oracle,a directory named database has been created under ORACLE_HOME, which contains all initorc1.ora ,etc ?
At this point how do I create another database named orc2 on the same machine?
    Thanks in advance.
    winnie philip.

    Hi,
    Set the oracle_sid=db1
Now rename your init.ora to init<oracle_sid>.ora in $oracle_home/dbs directory.
Change the db_name parameter to appropriate name in the init<oracle_sid>.ora file.
    Now create the database.
In the same fashion create another database with the new database name and different oracle_sid
Now in order to switch between the databases.
Change the env variable Oracle_Sid to the value of the database which you wanted to start.

  • Can 2 CDB containers be installed in the same ORACLE_HOME for 12.1.0.2 database?

    Hi,
I'm simply doing OBE labs on a VM for now, until I get new hardware which will run 12.1.0.2 database. The issue I am having with an OBE lab which demonstrates unplugging and plugging in PDB's from one container to another has me confused. The lab states the following set up:
    Prerequisites
Before starting this tutorial, you should:
    Install Oracle Database 12c.
Create two CDBs with two PDBs in the first CDB.
The environment used in the development of this tutorial is as follows:
    ORACLE_HOME: /u01/app/oracle/product/12.1.0
    TNS Listener port: 1521
    Container databases:
    SID: cdb1
    SID: cdb2
    Pluggable databases (in cdb1):
    pdb1
    pdb2
The problem I am having is when I use DBCA or scripts to create CDB2, it doesn't create a new container database. I get an instance and a database called CDB2, however it's not a CDB. I get ORA-65090: operation only allowed in a container database when a pluggable database is trying to be created...
In the DBCA, I make sure 'install pluggable database' is checked, and in the SPFILE I have ENABLE_PLUGGABLE_DATABASE=TRUE..... The new instance has the name I gave it, with no pluggable database installed, and for CDB2:
    SQL> select name from v$database;
    NAME
    CDB2
    SQL> show con_id
    CON_ID
    0                                     (expected to see a 1)
    SQL> show con_name
    CON_NAME
    cdb2                               (expected to see CDB$ROOT)
    SQL> select cdb from v$database;
    CDB
    NO
The link to the lab can be found here:
    Plugging an Unplugged Pluggable Database
Is it possible to have two container databases in the same ORACLE_HOME? What am I missing to install a second container database?

Pl do not post duplicates - Multiple Container instances, with PDB's, located in the same Oracle Home?

  • TDE Wallets & Multiple Databases on same Host

The Oracle TDE Best Practices (doc ID 130696) states this:
Multiple databases on the same host
If there are multiple Oracle Databases installed on the same server, they
must access their own individual TDE wallet. Sharing the same wallet between independent instances is not supported
and can potentially lead to the loss of encrypted data.
If the databases share the same ORACLE_HOME, they also share the same
sqlnet.ora file in $TNS_ADMIN . In order to access their individual wallet, the
    DIRECTORY entry for the ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION
needs to point each database to its own wallet location:
    DIRECTORY= /etc/ORACLE/WALLETS/$ORACLE_UNQNAME
The names of the subdirectories under /etc/ORACLE/WALLETS/ reflect
the ORACLE_UNQNAME names of the individual databases.
If the databases do not share the same ORACLE_HOME, they will also have their individual sqlnet.ora
files that have to point to the individual subdirectories.
What is the correct sqlnet.ora syntax to do this?  I currently have what is below but it doesn't seem to be correct:
    ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION =
      (SOURCE = (METHOD = FILE)
      (METHOD_DATA =
      (DIRECTORY = /local/oracle/admin/wallet/DB#1)
      (DIRECTORY = /local/oracle/admin/wallet/DB#2)

    Hi,
You can check this :Setting ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION For Wallets Of Multiple Instances Sharing The Same Oracle Home (Doc ID 1504783.1)
i haven't done this for multiple database, but as per Doc you can use the syntex like
    ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION =
      (SOURCE = (METHOD = FILE)
      (METHOD_DATA =
      (DIRECTORY = /local/oracle/admin/wallet/$ORACLE_UNQNAME)
Whenever you set the Environmnet with
    export $ORACLE_UNQNAME=DB#1
it will choose the file from respective directory like  /local/oracle/admin/wallet/DB#1

  • Processes of databases mixed between ORACLE_HOMES on CRS STANDALONE

    Hi,
I have three Databases with different Oracle_HOME (different filesystem) on a CRS STANDALONE 11.2.0.3 (ASM)
    /opt/oracle/pka00/soft/bd/bd11.2 (SID: piloasdb)
    /opt/oracle/pka01/soft/bd/bd11.2 (SID: pilosec)
    /opt/oracle/pka02/soft/bd/bd11.2 (SID: piloref)
1)I start with crsctl command the first DB: crsctl start resource: ora.piloasdb.db
    No problem
    2) I start with crsctl command the second DB: crsctl start resource: ora.pilosec.db
I can see processes of pilosec DB opened in BOTH ORACLE_HOME (itself O_H and the O_H of piloasdb)
    3) I start with crsctl command the third DB: crsctl start resource: ora.piloref.db
I can see processes of piloref DB opened in ALL the ORACLE_HOME (itself O_H and the other two O_H, piloasdb and piloref)
    Why this behavior?
I discovered this problem when I want to dismount the filesystem of one DATABASE, I can't do it because the processes of other databases are opened.
    Tks very much!
    Send in cc: [email protected]
    Regards,
    David.

    Hi,
never use CRSCTL for oracle ressources! It might lead to OCR (or in your case OLR) corruptions.
    For Oracle ressources use SRVCTL.
Furthermore you should always take the SRVCTL from the home the DB is running in. This is not so important, when versions are equal, however if one home has a patch, the other not, it might be crucial.
If the same issue exists with SRVCTL of the responding DB Home, then you should open a SR.
If the error only exists when using crsctl then see above ;)

    Sebastian

Do you have a listener 10g service ? Did you start it ? If not, please try the following :
    C:\> set ORACLE_HOME=<Your 10g Home>
    C:\> set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
    C:\> lsnrctl start
wait up to a minute, then execute

  • Compare Table Data on 2 different databases having same schema

I need to compare data in all the tables in 2 different databases having same schema.
If there is any difference in data in any table on Database1 and Database2 then I need to update/insert/delete the rows in my table in Database2.
So Database1 is my source database and Database2 is my sync database. I cannot use expdp tables as I am not having sufficient privileges to the database server.
Also I cannot drop and recreate the tables as they are huge.
Can anyone please guide me how to compare data and to write a script to comapre the changes in say Database1.Table1 and Database2.Table1 and then accordingly do inserts/updates/deleted on Database2.Table1?
    Thanks

    Karthick_Arp wrote:
Do you have a DBLink? If youes you can do this.
    1. Login into the Database-2 and run this code.
    begin
    for i in (select table_name from user_tables)
    loop
    execute immediate 'truncate table ' || i.table_name;
    end loop;
end; This will empty all the tables in your Database-2. Now what you need is to just populate the data from Database-1This might result in error, if any of the tables have referential integrity on them.
    From 10g documentation :
    Restrictions on Truncating Tables
You cannot individually truncate a table that is part of a cluster. You must either truncate the cluster, delete all rows from the table, or drop and re-create the table.
You cannot truncate the parent table of an enabled referential integrity constraint. You must disable the constraint before truncating the table. An exception is that you can truncate the table if the integrity constraint is self-referential.
If a domain index is defined on table, then neither the index nor any index partitions can be marked IN_PROGRESS.I would go for normal MERGE. Also change the cursor to select table names by first modifying the child tables and then the parent table.

You do not change the dbname of the physical standby database. They always must have the same name as the primary.
Here is a snippet from my standby initialization file for a 9i installation. Notice the parameter LOCK_NAME_SPACE that was replaced in 10g with DB_UNIQUE_NAME

Thanks, Your help and guide will appreciated very much.

    Hello,
The directory for the creation of the logfiles does not exist, from the error:
RMAN-06136: ORACLE error from auxiliary database: ORA-00344: unable to re-create online log '/db/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.5/dbs/ /db
    /redolog.001/catalog1/catalog1_log1.rdo'
ORA-27040: skgfrcre: create error, unable to create file
HP-UX Error: 2: No such file or directoryI.e., there is no such directory as *'/db/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.5/dbs/ /db/redolog.001/catalog1/catalog1_log1.rdo'*
Your db_recovery_file_dest parameter may be set here, therefore change this:
    '/db/redolog.001/catalog1/catalog1_log1.rdo' size 5m,
    ' /db/redolog.003/catalog1/catalog1_log2.rdo' size 5m,
    ' /db/redolog.002/catalog1/catalog1_log3.rdo' size 5m;To this:
    'catalog1_log1.rdo' size 5m,
    'catalog1_log2.rdo' size 5m,
    'catalog1_log3.rdo' size 5m;And try again.

  • ** Is it not possible to use 2 database in same XI server

    Hi friends,
We were able to connect to oracle database thru JDBC adapter previously. To connect to SQL server , we have installed JDBC drivers for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in same XI server.  Now, we are able to connect to SQL server table but not able to connect to Oracle table . When change the CC and give the Oracle driver and Connection string, it throws an error 'SAPClassnotFoundException'.
So, Is it not possible to connect to different database in same XI system ?
    Kindly reply friends,
    Kind Regards,
    Jeg P.

    1) Verify the DB URL by connecting database using Command line SQL plus or any SQL editor.
    2) Check wether the Drivers deployed are supported for the Oracle Db version and JDK version on XI server and OS type ( Solaris )
Check this URL for details on JDBC drivers support list -
Re: Different Version Oracle in a SLD
SAPClassNotFoundException: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver' --> This error clearly implies that the OracleDriver has not been installed on your XI server.
Ask you admin team to do the needful and install the Oracle Drivers.
    regards

  • Two database in same machine

    Hai
I want to create two database in same machine. I searched in google but no use.
Is it possible in oracle 9i r2?
If so,Anybody please help on that.

    jey84 wrote:
I want to create two database in same machine. You can have a 100 Oracle databases on the same machine. The issue though is why?
Why do you want to duplicate database overheads? Why two sets of system and process monitoring processes? Log writers? Database writers? Etc.
Why two SGAs? Why two system tablespaces? Two temp tablespaces, undo tablespaces? Two sets of redo logs? Etc.
You now have two database footprints. Instead of a single large SGA with properly sized buffer cache, shared pool, large pool and so on - you know have two smaller SGAs and smaller caches and pools that are now less capable and less scalable.
Why would you want to do this?
There are no sound technical reasons for running multiple database instances on a server - unless it is something like a 32 CPU/multicore server with 256 GBs of memory. But then why not use this as a cloud-type server on which you can run multiple server VMs? One VM for each database, as that provides more flexibility than multiple databases on a single server(physical or VM)?
In today's world of cluster and cloud computing, running 2 databases instances on the same server does not make much sense. And needs to be backed up by reason and logic that justify such an approach.

  • OLTP and OLAP databases on same SQL Server?

Would you put OLTP and OLAP databases on same SQL Server or separate?
I realize the ideal would be separate, but that means 2 expensive licenses instead of 1.  Most of our OLTP stuff happens during the day while OLTP processing happens at night (so good use of resources) if just 1 server.  Also, the disks that hold
the files could have different allocations (small chunks for the OLTP disks, large for the OLAP disks).  Also, by being on the same database server, the OLTP data is immediately accessible for processing into the warehouse.
Or, is it just a cardinal rule to never mix the two worlds as server completely different purposes?
    Thanks.

Answer given in simillar below thread would help you for sure:

Is keeping your OLAP and OLTP databases on the same server is considered bad practice?

  • How to transfer database table contain null values, primary key, and foreign key to the another database in same server. using INSERT method.

how to transfer database table contain null values, primary key, and foreign key to the another database in same server. using INSERT method.  thanks

    INSERT targetdb.dbo.tbl (col1, col2, col3, ...)
       SELECT col1, col2, col3, ...
       FROM   sourcedb.dbo.tbl
Or what is your question really about? Since you talke about foreign keys etc, I suspect that you want to transfer the entire table definition, but you cannot do that with an INSERT statement.

I have VMware server s/w, do i need to create 2 virtual machines inside the one installation of VMware server? Or do i need to have 2 different installation of VMware server? You could think of VMWare Server in similar terms are Oracle Database Server.
The HOME: The VMWare Server s/w is put into a "VMWare Home" (I use VMWare Workstation, it goes into C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation)
The INSTANCE: WHen I create a VM Image, I specify the name (like a SID), configuration (like PFILE), and location (like ORACLE_BASE/oradata/ ...)
And just like Oracle with which I can have 2 or more instances running on the host (if there is sufficient memory and other resource), I can have 2 or more VM Images running on my host.
And just like Oracle, if I have insufficient resources, things get slow like molasses in the middle of winter.
Hope your desktop has at least 4GB of OS-addressible RAM and at least dual-core CPU. ALternately ... I hope you have lots of coin for the coffee machine.
