Dbx: internal error: signal SIGSEGV
Hi All,
Using Sun Studio to build our C/C++ (with boost) application. When I try to debug with dbx I get:
dbx: internal error: signal SIGSEGV (no mapping at the fault address)
dbx's coredump will appear in /tmp
Abort (core dumped)
Can anyone suggest a solution? More details follow.
thanks
Scott.

You have found bug in dbx. We would appreciate if you file it using bugs.sun.com or provide a testcase, in which case I'll file it myself. If you can't post source code here, maybe you can send binary on which dbx crashed to me by email - kms at sun dot com?
Thanks,

CC: Sun C++ 5.9 SunOS_sparc Patch 124863-07 2008/08/22
So far this has only happened to me with boost::pool. Any clues?A dbx "internal error" indicates a problem in dbx, not with the compiler or compiled code.
If you do not already have the latest dbx patch, 124872-07, please install it. You can get it here:
http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/downloads/patches/ss12_patches.jsp
See if that fixes the problem. -

Dbx: internal error: signal SIGSEGV (no mapping at the fault address
I know this has been discussed before but I'm posting here because I'm not sure if it is my stupidity or dbx that is causing this...
I'm trying to debug a program which links against the gts (GNU triangulated surface) library which has been compiled with gcc version 4.3.2. dbx crashes when asked to step over or into a line where a reference is made to the gts library. It also crashes if asked to load all modules (module -a).
I assume that this is because the dwarf produced by gcc is incompatible with dbx although, from reading other pages I had assumed that dbx was now fully compatible with gcc dwarf. I can find no (human readable) core file in /tmp. What am I looking for (which file name).
So, can any one give me any hints? Are there any files I can post which would be helpful? A simple test case (you will need the gts library installed) is
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include "gts.h"
int main(int argc, char** argv) {
GtsSurface *surf = gts_surface_new(gts_surface_class(),gts_face_class(),gts_edge_class(),gts_vertex_class());
return (EXIT_SUCCESS);
}System is Ubuntu Linux 8.10 on x64 system.
Cheers, TimOK, the plot thickens. I've compiled the gts library with -gdwarf-2 by doing make clean, ./install CFLAGS=-gdwarf-2 then make install. Still get the same error when stepping over a line which calls the gts library.
My next angle of attack was to compile the entire gts library with sun cc. I held off doing this at first because I assumed that there would be inevitable problems moving from compiling with gcc to sun cc however, my worries were unfounded and the entire library compiled with no changes and without any significant warnings. So, I tried the same as before, compiling the test program and sure enough dbx crashes when stepping over a line which calls the gts library. Dbx also crashes if asked to load a module from the gts library, i.e. module surface.o
Any suggestions?

Memory access error combined with "internal error SIGSEV"
In a code that I work on, I get a memory access error, when i allocate memory to a pointer via new.
It says " Attempting to write 4 bytes at address <address>
which is <x> bytes past the end of heap block of size <size of class allocated throug new> at <address>
After this there is one function call into which i try to step in and i get
"internal error : signal SIGSEV (no mapping at the fault address)" and core is dumped after raising abort signal.
But i dont get any problem with regard to function mapping, when i try stepping over the function and function performs its usual action. Also the binary works fine with no runtime exceptions. It gives this mapping problem while debugging.

gcc version 3.4.3 (csl-sol210-3_4-branch+sol_rpath)
Could some one suggest the possible reasons for this error with the give information? Thank you.
--SaravanaIndeed, it is dbx error. Seeing that gdb is involved, I suspect DWARF-related problem. You are using dbx that is almost 4 years old; at the very least, please install all patches; better solution is to upgrade to latest version, it works much better with gcc compilers.
The latest version of Sun Studio can be downloaded from here: http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/downloads/
Besides, it has much better IDE and more standard- (and gcc-) conforming C++ compiler, so you might as well try switching to Sun Studio C++ compiler for you project. -

Hi,
I was doing a bit of multitasking, and the kernel ran out of SWAP and crashed. After reboot everything is borked. Every program I had open prior to crash wont start or crashes soon after opening. (Chromium, Clementine, Terminal, Smuxi, VMware...). The error is either segmentation fault or some weird error.
Smuxi:

There are several posts here about segfaults being caused by the upgrade libxcursor (1.1.14-1 -> 1.1.14-2)
The first few results of a search for libxcursor will give more details.

Nickled and dimed once again by obscure errors. This is LabVIEW 10.0.1 on Redhat EL 5.5 32-bit.
I removed an enum from the project that is also used in a typedef control cluster. Since many VIs use this typedef I have to go to each VI and save in order to remove the phantom dependencies (i.e. popup can't find enum ctl when opening VIs). In the process of opening every VI and saving LabVIew is crashing on me reliably but not everytime just after I press cancel when it tries to find the enum ctl.
Here are the errors. Sometimes the address is null....I believe LabVIEW src code should check for null/bad pointers but does not in this case.

Upon reopening LV I see this.
The last time you ran LabVIEW, an internal error or crash occurred at source/typedesc/DSTM.cpp, line 211.Hello wbdoyle,
I'm sorry you are seeing that error. Did you close and save the type def that included the enum? This should prevent you from having to go through and save each VI that includes the type def. Are you using the System Exec VI? Also, are you performing any data acquisition with the VI you are referencing? The error you are seeing indicates that the LV compiler isn't handling something in your VI and I want to pinpoint exactly what is happening.
Thanks!

Internal Error (4F533F4C494E55580E43505002E0)...
Hello,
I installed in my OpenSuSE a patch to better support realtime applications. Before it, i already had RTS installed in my machine and i used it to compile programs which created RealtimeThread objects. Everything was working. But now, when i try to execute a Java RTS program (whichever it is, java, javac, rmic..) i get the following message.
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
# Internal Error (4F533F4C494E55580E43505002E0), pid=5664, tid=4158711488
# Java VM: Java Real-Time System HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.5.0_16-b11 mixed mode)
# An error report file with more information is saved as hs_err_pid5664.log
Probably my installation did what it shouldn't, I know. But do you know more about this error specifically? I haven't found anything about it on Internet..Thanks for answering, David.
I don't think it's a permission problem, at least i tried to execute it as root and it didn't work either (if that's what you meant, i may be wrong).
Every time it fails it creates a file like the one you mentioned. When i tried to execute java -version, i got the following data inside this file:
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
# Internal Error (4F533F4C494E55580E43505002E0), pid=4953, tid=4158199488

AligHi Alig;
ORA-00600 is internal error which means if error retry then you take support from oracle, Pelase check Note:Troubleshoot an ORA-600 or ORA-7445 Error Using the Error Lookup Tool [ID 153788.1]
Put your version and your error and look up error, it will bring you some document, check them and if they are not useful for your i strongly suggest log a Sr for your issue

Who can give me a suggestion about java crash with Internal Error ID?
I running my server performance test, but after 7 hours, the jvm crashed and give a java internal error ID with "*53484152454432554E54494D450E43505001A8*",
and I can not query any valuable information from Google by this internal Error ID. Who can give me a light?
I have run the performance test on the other machine with the same service logic, the other environment not crash, It's very strange!

{color:#000000}All above is my found, but I am a newbie in JVM crash, so anybody can help me ?
and I am very interesting in the Internal Error ID ({color}{color}{color:#ff0000}*53484152454432554E54494D450E43505001A8*{color}{color:#008080}{color:#000000}), I think this ID hide a lot of valuable information for SUN JDK developer, who can interpret it? Thanks very much!

JVM 1.4.2_12-b03 Internal Error assistance?
Hi all
We have a production application running on WebLogic 8.1 SP4 that has recently been crashing out giving the below error. We've tried adjusting our JVM settings from
JAVA_OPTIONS="-Dnetworkaddress.cache.ttl=60 -Xms2048M -Xmx2048M -XX:NewSize=512M -XX:MaxNewSize=512M -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:+CMSParallelRemarkEnabled -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintHeapAtGC -Xloggc:gc.log"
to
JAVA_OPTIONS="-server -Dnetworkaddress.cache.ttl=60 -Xms2048M -Xmx2048M -XX:NewSize=512M -XX:MaxNewSize=512M -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:+UseParallelGC -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintHeapAtGC -Xloggc:gc.log "
as we believed the problem might lie with the CMS collector since the system bailed out whilst performing this type of collection but the system has since crashed with the revised arguments. Anyone encountered the same error?
The tail end of out gc.log reads

The latest publicly available version of 1.4.2 is 1.4.2_17, so you might
consider upgrading to that instead of to 1.4.2_14.
Aside: I notice that you are using the "client jvm"; you might consider the
server jvm (via -server) for improved performance.
