Terminated by signal SIGSEGV (Address boundary error)

Hi,
I was doing a bit of multitasking, and the kernel ran out of SWAP and crashed. After reboot everything is borked. Every program I had open prior to crash wont start or crashes soon after opening. (Chromium, Clementine, Terminal, Smuxi, VMware...). The error is either segmentation fault or some weird error.
Smuxi:

Try downgrading libxcursor back to 1.1.14-1
There are several posts here about segfaults being caused by the upgrade libxcursor (1.1.14-1 -> 1.1.14-2)
The first few results of a search for libxcursor will give more details.

    Hi All,
Using Sun Studio to build our C/C++ (with boost) application. When I try to debug with dbx I get:
dbx: internal error: signal SIGSEGV (no mapping at the fault address)
dbx's coredump will appear in /tmp
    Abort (core dumped)
Can anyone suggest a solution? More details follow.

You have found bug in dbx. We would appreciate if you file it using bugs.sun.com or provide a testcase, in which case I'll file it myself. If you can't post source code here, maybe you can send binary on which dbx crashed to me by email - kms at sun dot com?
    Thanks,
    Maxim.

So far this has only happened to me with boost::pool. Any clues?

A dbx "internal error" indicates a problem in dbx, not with the compiler or compiled code.
If you do not already have the latest dbx patch, 124872-07, please install it. You can get it here:

  • DG Observer triggering SIGSEGV Address not mapped to object errors in alert log

    Hi,
I've got a Data Guard configuration using two 11.2.0.3 single instance databases.  The configuration has been configured for automatic failover and I have an observer running on a separate box.
This fast-start failover configuration has been in place for about a month and in the last week, numerous SEGSEGV (address not mapped to object) errors are reported in the alert log.  This is happening quite frequently (every 4/5 minutes or so).
The corresponding trace files show the process triggering the error coming from the observer.
Has anyone experienced this problem?  I'm at my wits end trying to figure out how to fix the configuration to eliminate this error.
I must also note that even though this error is occurring a lot, it doesn't seem to be affecting any of the database functionality.
    Help?
    Thanks in advance.
    Beth

Hi..   The following is the alert log message, the traced file generated, and the current values of the data guard configuration.  In addition, as part of my research, I attempted to apply patch 12615660 which did not take care of the issue.  I also set the inbound_connection_timeout parameter to 0 and that didn't help either.  I'm still researching but any pointer in the right direction is very much appreciated.

  • Dbx : terminated by signal SEGV (no mapping at the fault address)

    hi everyone
when I use dbx to analyze a core
it shows : terminated by signal SEGV (no mapping at the fault address)
but how to directly show the value of fault address ?
I know that it can be calculated by $pc , but is there any direct way?
is there any dbx subcommand or solaris command to do this ?
    Thanks.

    Mahi,
This appears to be a serious database issue. Unfortunately, there is no simple magical fix I guess. Going through Oracle Support, instead of applying some patch, is the better route, i believe.
To me, it appears more of bug# 3804515. Please check the following:

  • Gnome: Error re-scanning registry , child terminated by signal

This started happening after updating two days ago. I have no idea what actually causes this error nor how to fix it. Running any Gnome application that needs gstreamer (especially gnome-settings-daemon!) will fail with error:
Error re-scanning registry , child terminated by signal
    For example, running gnome-settings-daemon --no-daemon --debug I get http://pastebin.archlinux.fr/358611
Stuff I have tried: Reinstall gconf, gnome, gnome-extras, all gstreamer stuff - futile attempts.
mv .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd to somewhere else - futile attempts.
    Anybody got any ideas?

I had problems with xfburn and brasero but i see that totem also won't start. Me too it happened since an update some days ago.
with totem i get the "child terminated by signal" and with xfburn i get "failed to initialize gstreamer"
Seem this guy had the same problem:

  • Custom Report - emsg was terminated by signal 11

    Hi All,
We are in middle of upgrade. We are in testing the upgrade.
We have upgraded DB (9i to 10.2.0.4), techstack, jdevelopper patchset19, java and jre.
We now have a custom report that finishes with
Environment will now switch to UTF-8 code-set.
Parts of this log file may not display correctly
as a result.  This is an expected behavior.
    XML_REPORTS_XENVIRONMENT is :
    $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon6/tk60/admin/Tk2Motif_UTF8.rgb
    XENVIRONMENT is set to  $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon6/tk60/admin/Tk2Motif_UTF8.rgb
Current NLS_LANG and NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS Environment Variables are :
    CANADIAN FRENCH_AMERICA.UTF8
    stat_low = B
    stat_high = 0
emsg was terminated by signal 11When browsing Metalink, I came across this note: 428335.1. I could reproduce the problem by doing ar60runb from O/S. I then did strace as written in the doc.
From the trace created, I can see
    munmap(0xb7fa5000, 4096) = 0
    munmap(0xb7ee4000, 790528) = 0
    --- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---
    +++ killed by SIGSEGV +++
As described in the doc, I did a search&find in the file for '0xb7ee4000'. I am not 100% if it is the same as in the note:
    open($FND_TOP/resource/ALBANWTJ.ttf", O_RDONLY) = 13
    fstat64(13, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=18472778, ...}) = 0
    old_mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0xb7fa5000
    _llseek(13, 0, [0], SEEK_SET) = 0
    read(13, "\0\1\0\0\0\24\1\0\0\4\0@EBDTg(\356\322\0\0\1L\0%\257:EBLC"..., 4096) = 4096
    old_mmap(NULL, 790528, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0xb7ee4000
Does this mean the error is coming from ALBANWTJ.ttf? In the note, it's a 'ttc' file.
Or I am looking at the wrong place and the error is actually something else?
    Thank you,
    Felix

    Hi Felix,
What is the type of those reports? If PDF, did you verify the value of Tk2Motif*fontMapCs in Tk2Motif.rgb file?
