DCP 2K in After Effects and AME - everything is good, but how do I mark the DCP file as "Advertisement"?

Hello,
I need to covert a FHD video to DCP 2k. I can achieve that with After Effects and Media Encoder and export/render as DCP 2k. The problem is the cinema needs the file marked as "advertisement" to be able to run it, and by default it comes as "feature" .
I couldn't find a way in the options to change it, in media encoder or AE. Is there a way to actually change it and mark it / label it as advertisement? Or this is the only way to make DCP 2k in AE and AME?
Thank you.

I would also like to know how to use this option. (If it at all exists) Adobe team, as per my phone conversation, can you please look at this?

Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
    André

  • H.264 Output Fails in After Effects and AME

I'm having the same problem - H.264 export crashes around the 1:03 mark every time. DNxHD is fine.
Dragging comps to Adobe Media Encoder and trying to render from there doesn't work either.
My CS6 install [last week] is on a brand new Dell Precision T7600 dual eight core machine with Windows 7.
It's ridiculous to say that we shouldn't render H.264 out of After Effects. Sometimes I render 50+ TV ads at at time from composition templates for delivery to a multitude of media outlets - each with slightly different specs.
Even if AME was a workaround, dragging all these comps over would be a crippling waste of time.
This is an Adobe problem and we've all wasted too much time troubleshooting and talking about it. PLEASE FIX.
    Thank you.

What version of After Effects? CS6 with all current updates.
Have you installed the recent updates? Yes.
What operating system? Windows 7 Professional
What kind(s) of source footage? The test composition contains only text created in After Effects. Other test comps have included MTS, MOV, PSD, MP3, WAV, AIF files.
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? After Effects error: Rendering error while writing to file "Q:\...\Test.mov". An output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted. (-1610153464)
What were you doing when the problem occurred? Sitting at my workstation with my fingers crossed looking hopelessly at the computer monitors.
Has this ever worked before? Yes. Worked flawlessly in all previous CS releases.
What other software are you running? Other software installed but not running at time of crash: Avid Media Composer 6.5.1, Sorenson Squeeze 8.1, Quicktime 7.5.5 [also didn't work on v7.6.9].
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? Whatever Avid and Sorenson install.
    Tell us about your computer hardware.: Dell T7600, Dual Eight Core XEON (E5-2665, 2.4GHz, 20M, 8 GT/s,Turbo+), 32GB, DDR3 RDIMM Memory, 1600MHz, ECC (8 x 4GB DIMMs), 2GB NVIDIA® Quadro® 4000, DUAL MON, 2DP & 1DVI, [1] 1TB system drive, [1] 12TB G-SPEED eS PRO.
Do you have any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU)? No.
Are you using OpenGL features in After Effects? Yes.
Does the problem only happen with your final output, RAM preview, or both? RAM previews work fine. Crashes occur while rendering to MOV w/H264 in both AE and AME.
Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing? Yes. But have tried disabling also.
What is the exact sequence of steps that you are taking? Open AE, create new composition, add some text layers, add some animated effects to the text layers, add comp to Render Queue or AME, select MOV with H264 codec.
    Thanks in advance Ben.

  • After Effects and AME CC'14. Wrong FPS interpretation.

I have footage from Sony AVCHD camcorder.
It was ingested in FCPX (simple wrapped to MOV container).
ALL video software on my Mac see it as 25 fps (50i). Except AE and AME CC'14.
Even CS 6 see 25 fps!
    QuickTime Inspector
    VLC Inspector
    ffmpeg
    AE CS6
    AE CC'14
    How to deal with it?

Sound in AE is good - it's not 50% slow as video (today I test this footage in Premiere - same issue).
So if I Interpret footage as 25 fps - sound will speedup 2x.
I can make pre-comps and other magic, but i will get something like this:
50% of my video! So Interpret footage - not an option!
And my project contents over 200 clips! So pre-comps (even with 50% of source video) - will be pain in ...!
I had to transcode all my footage to ProRes.. not using AME, because of same issue..

  • After rebooting mac, backup from hard drive was too large and didn't happen. I continued the reboot and can safely use my mac now, but how do I transfer the backup files I need from my hard drive onto my mac/macs system?

Seems like a silly question but I had an appointment at my local apple store about a start up issue, ran some tests and passed them which was fine.
After this, I was left to reboot my mac and basically transfer files from my harddrive onto my macbook. However, I couldn't choose the files to be transferred and so I went with the reboot and the startup issue I initially had was fixed, although I need the files from my hardrive to be transfered onto my mac.
There are backups and documents I need.

I'm not sure I understand, but are you asking how to copy files from your external drive? Open two Finder windows. In one find the files you want to transfer, in the other where you want to put them. Select the file and drag it over.

  • CS5 After Effects and Premiere Pro

I am using CS5 After Effects and Premiere Pro with footage from a Canon 5D Mark III. Shooting/editing 1080p 24 (or at least their version of it). What are the best render settings/codecs to use to export from AE for import into Premiere Pro other than the animation codec or Pro Res? I dont have Pro Res and the animation codec is great but the file size slows down the app. Thx in advance.
Or a few resources to explain the whole codec/export/bitrate/etc issue once and for all for different situations wether it be brodcast or internet or simply burning a dvd to play on a HD TV. It is almost like this is some kind of secret no one will tell...LOL...i cant find a difinitive answer anywhere.

As is stated above there are Production codecs which can be lossless, nearly lossless, and at higher bit depth. Production Codecs include Uncompressed (huge files but fast do decode and will not playback in real time) Editing Codecs like Black Magic, Avid, ProRez, and others that are smaller, can still be lossless, may support alpha channels and higher bit depths, and Archival Codecs like Microcosm, JPEG2000, PNG, which support alpha channels, are lossless, and on some systems, will playback in real time.
Editing codecs are specifically designed to be played back in a NLE. These are good choices for a Premiere Pro / AE workflow. So are Archival Codecs. If your project involves a lot of sharing of files between users and apps, then pick a format common to everyone that is at the highest bit depth your storage system can accommodate.
There are also image sequence formats. These include PSD sequences, TGA, TIFF, PNG and others. Some support higher bit depth (32bit Float). Image Sequences work great, have advantages when it comes to correcting just a few frames here and there, and are used to a great extent in professional production pipelines. They are much more flexible than video but they have a distinct disadvantage when it comes to keeping track of the files and keeping things organized.
Then there are delivery codecs. These are designed for playback. They are not suitable for production because delivery codecs use GOP compression, are limited to low bit depth, and are not lossless. IOW, if you render to a delivery codec, then you process and render again to the same codec the artifacts start to build up. H.264 for example, after just 2 or 3 passes, even at very high quality settings, falls completely apart.
Consumer and ProSumer cameras use delivery codecs for image capture. Your Cannon 5D does. This is OK, and it's the only option you've got with some cameras, but the best workflow for these types of capture systems is to transcode the footage to a production codec before you do anything. Production codecs will render faster because it takes less time to decode the footage for processing. You should never render AVCHD or MPEG footage back to the same codec. Always use a production codec until you're project is ready to archive and deliver.
One note on ProRez on Windows. This is not a good idea for production. You cannot maintain proRez native 10bit color space. You should not render to ProRez using 3rd party workarounds because you're just building a proRez container for a windows compressed video. Sure, it will playback on a Mac, but the actual image will have lost important detail and color depth.
Let me give my humble opinion on Dynamic Link. This works great for a shot or two in a Premiere Sequence. This works great for working with Audio in Premiere and Audition. This works great for rendering for delivery or even production using the Adobe Media Encoder. Did you note my second sentence? Dynamic link between AE and Premiere Pro for a few shots in a sequence is a good idea and a time saver, but if you're cutting a film that's over a few minutes, each scene should be it's own sequence. If the scene has more than just a few shots that need to be processed in After Effects then using Dynamic Link can easily become a monster you don't want to deal with. The key to efficient post production of an effects laden production is planning. You've got to cut for story first, then produce your effects shots with sufficient handles (extra frames) to allow some fine tuning, then recut the final. Any other workflow on a long project is just wasting time.

  • A few questions about After Effects and CGI (Computer-generated Imagery)

    Hi,
I'm very new to After Effects and this forum. But I have a few questions.
Now, I have recently started a movie project with my friend at a workshop. It's an action/sci-fi film and I'm probably going to be the editor and if needed in charge of visual and/or special effects. This sounds like a pretty big job for a noob, but we don't have a time limit with the project so there's time to learn.
But to my questions. I've thought of introducing CGI to myself (very simple of course). I've studied the use of blender, and I think I'll use it for the modelling and animation. But should Ae be used in any stage of producing the CGI or should everything be done in blender? If I do, how? Am I going in the wrong direction (wrong kind of software, etc.)?
Also, I'm not talking of fully producing the scene with the computer, but adding things like characters or items, maybe special effects.
I'm hoping for an answer to all my questions, but if you have just one or two answers I'm happy to hear them too. You're also welcome to correct me if I've misunderstood something. Please ask for further specifications if you need any!

    1. Welcome to the family. AE is big, Really big. It's hard. Really hard. You have no idea how hard AE is to learr and to master.
    2. No time limit is good but you will need some money.
    3. This is not a Blender forum. You want to explore filmmaking, CGI and Blender-specific forums for that kind of assistance.
    4. AE is for your compositing and special effects. But you will need to learn how both apps work before you can decide how to divide up your project. A comparison would be shooting your film. Are you using a DSLR? Do you know why? Or are you using a GoPro? Another example might be Apple's Final Cut Pro. You can edit audio in it but it's better to use an audio application. You can do some special effects in FCP but it's best to do complex stuff in Motion of After Effects. How do you know what app is appropriate Lots of experience. Lots of failures.
    5. We were all new to AE and to vidoe editing and to special effects at one time or another. The user forums are not places to learn how to use these applications. You do that with tutorials and books and tons of time. Learning to use Blender to make a robot move is one thing. Making the robot into a character that compels the audience to care about it is quite another. Using AE to create a layer of clouds is one thing. Having those clouds react to the bow waves created by your flying robot as it approaches sonic speeds is quite another challenge.

  • Using Adobe Media Encoder with After Effects and ExtendScript

    Hi,
I'm trying to automate the process of encoding a video using the Adobe Media Encoder. The project I'm working on includes allowing a user to upload a video and having that video then be encoded in different formats. I'm very new to After Effects and ExtendScript, but the two ways I see of doing this are:
    1) Use ExtendScript to fire the Adobe Media Encoder through After Effects, using the 'Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue' function. I'm not sure if this is possible or not.
    2) Bypass After Effects all together and use the 'watch folder' function in Adobe Media Encoder and upload the files directly to that folder.
I'd prefer to go route 1, if that's possible, but I'm not sure it is. I was thinking that I could write a script to work with Adobe Media Encoder to encode a given video, but from what I've read, ExtendScript isn't currently supported by Adobe Media Encoder? This is true? What would be the best way to go about accomplishing this?
    Thanks.

I think you will have a much easier time just using option 2. I have to ask, why do you want the files to go through After Effects anyway? If you are just taking a file and converting it to ## different formats...the watch folder setup in AME would be super easy to setup.
All you need to do is ensure the user submitted files end up in a certain directory -- make that folder your watch folder and create a second folder within that one called 'encoded' or something along those lines. That way as long as AME is online and watch folders are active....you won't have to do a thing.

  • What Systems are the Pros Using for Premier, After Effects, and SpeedGrade?

I bought the full Creative Cloud in hopes of making a career for myself in audio/visual editing. The problem is, my system doesn't seem to be able to handle the software, particularly when changing back and forth between the three programs mentioned above. Beyond that, my first project failed to export properly. Moreover, all throughout its development the system lagged badly. And this is after having followed all the preferences recommendations available in the Adobe's tutorials and elsewhere on the Web.
    Here's my system:
SYX-P67A-C43: Intel Core i7 2600 (an 8-core unit) at 3.4GHz, with 8 Gigs of RAM (soon to be 16) with a GTX 550 NVidia Card, 1Gig of RAM.
As you can see, this is far in excess of what Adobe claims to be the minimum system requirements. It's obviously NOT.
What systems are the Pros using (like the guys in the tutorials) for Premier, After Effects, and SpeedGrade? Give me the exact machines with all the specs so I can price one up.

...although a little " old" now.....the fundamentals of your machine are still OK to get started IF you : 1. INCREASE your system memory to the full 32 GB....should make a BIG difference in performance.....8 GB is NOT enough, it will HINDER performance. 2. OVERCLOCK your CPU !!!.....many owners of your CPU have been safely running at 4.5 Ghz or HIGHER...some at 4.8 Ghz !!! This OC will make a DRAMATIC improvement  as  CPU speed is a huge factor in performance. 3. Improve your video card to a new NVidia 970 with 4 GB of video memory. 4. Check and MAKE SURE the power supply in your machine is ADEQUATE to handle everything, esp. if you overclock the CPU....generally 850 to 1,000 watts of a quality make is good. 5. Use a fast storage system...that means a SATA III SSD as your "C" drive, ( boot drive), being a Crucial M550 series,( or, M600 series), OR, a Samsung 850 Pro series SSD, ( more expensive). Other SSDs are NOT recommended, only these two makes are recommended for technical reasons. On this "C" drive, you should have Operating system, Programs, and Windows page file ONLY !! Your "D" drive can be ANOTHER single SSD to be used as a "cache drive" for all the previews, media cache, and cache files that Premier Pro creates PLUS, it can ALSO serve as the "Global Performance cache" used in After Effects. All your media and project files can go on your "E" drive. HERE you would have LIMITED OPTIONS because your motherboard only has TWO SATA III ports, ( which would already be used b the "C" and "D" SSDs). You NOW have only 4 SATA II ports left ......you COULD RAID 0 four 1 TB HDDs off these ports and have a 4TB backup drive connected to one of your TWO USB 3 external ports.....any DVD or Blue-ray can ALSO go on an external port.
However, if you are into spending REAL MONEY !!!.....Go Haswell E and X99 all the way !!...THAT will give you great performance !!

  • How to get more efficient After Effects and Mocha Integration?

    Hello All
Is there a way to open a previously created Mocha AE project from AE? I am working on a shot that needed tracking and each time I stopped and then came back to the project, I had to open AE, open the AE project, click the clip in the composition, click animation, click track in Mocha AE and then cancel Mocha asking to start a new project and then click file, recent files and choose the appropriate Mocha project.
This works but is really dumb.
I also understand this is the bundled version and that Imagineer really wants me to buy the full version. If I get enough projects to justify it, I will. Currently the bundled version is fine. Just need a shot that AE couldn't handle stabilized.
What would be even better is if AE saw the Mocha program as an effect. Click a clip and then apply Mocha AE Tracking from the effects and presets panel. And then be able to do the track in the Mocha interface and then using the effects controls tell it to apply the track as either stabilization, corner pin data or whatever from the AE interface when the clip is selected.
Does anyone else think this would be a much better way of using Mocha? Am I the only one who feels this way? Was there something I missed in creating my project?

Thanks for the reply but... I think maybe I might not have communicated my thoughts correctly.
I am working on a video that is going to be 1/2 hour long. Part of my footage is from a handheld camera. One section of the footage needs to be stabilized. So I right click on the clip in Premiere and replace with an After Effects Composition.
Now I tried to track just using AE but that was a wash. So I figured I would track it in Mocha. Then I spent at least 1/2 an hour looking for Mocha in my start menu and on my hard drives in places that programs usually reside. Then when I didn't find it I went to the Creative Cloud site (I am a subscriber) and checked to see why I was having a hard time finding it. Then I got a little panicked trying to find out if it was still bundled with CS6 as I couldn't find mention of it there. The Imagineer site said it was, but it was not in my start menu and I couldn't manually find the executable where I expected it to be.
So then after a short Google search I found that it was on the animate menu in AE. (Whew )
So I opened the AE project I had created for tracking the clip and clicked animate and saw that the track in Mocha AE was grayed out. (oh boy...) I immediately went to the edit menu and clicked preferences, general. I looked through the choices and tried to find where I was supposed to "turn on" Mocha. Couldn't find anything related.
So I selected the clip in the composition timeline. Chose Animate and then the choice was available and I clicked Track in Mocha AE.
Now Mocha asked to create a new project. Basically took the defaults and then I had to wait a while as Mocha cached the clip. Once the clip was cached I got started finding the relevant area of the footage and set up the x spline for tracking on the first frame. Then I saved so I could start again the next day without having to wait and went to bed happy.
The next day when I was ready to start tracking that footage again I tried to find Mocha in my start menu, I figured that maybe it would show up now because I had used it once. Didn't so I found it in Program files tucked away in a secret folder in the Adobe folder sets and created a short cut and double clicked it. It told me that I had to start it from inside AE.
So I opened the previous days AE Project and clicked the clip chose Animation and clicked track in Mocha. Mocha wanted to start a new project based on the clip I had to select in order to get the menu choice from inside of AE, so I canceled that and then Mocha opened and I chose recent files and the previous days project.
And then I waited again as Mocha re-cached the clip. I made sure everything was set up correctly, looked at the spline layer and felt I was good to go so I hit the forward track button. The clip has a frame length of 21752 frames. At frame 9199 I had to stop working and do other things. I stopped the tracking and saved the project.
The next day when I was ready to start tracking that footage again I opened the previous days AE Project and clicked the clip chose Animation and clicked track in Mocha. Mocha wanted to start a new project based on the clip I had to select in order to get the menu choice from inside of AE, so I canceled that and then Mocha opened and I chose recent files and the previous days project.
And then I waited again as Mocha re-cached the clip. I made sure everything was the same as I had left it the previous day and then found the end of the previous days work and moved Mocha's CTI to the spot where I needed to track from. I hit the track forward button. It told me the footage was different or too dark from previous frames and that it couldn't continue. HUH?
So I noticed that there was a different coloration on the frame timeline indicator. There was a blue section, where I had previously tracked and a red section, which I assumed meant it was untracked. I moved the CTI back into the blue section and hit track forward. Everything worked. Then I got to a section that had people obscuring the part of the shot that I was doing my tracking on. Time to create an exclusion x spline layer. I found the first frame where the people would become a problem and surrounded them. Everything was good even though it was taking 7 extra steps to get to the start of working on the clip each time. So I saved and went to bed.
Should I bother to tell you what happened the next?
The today when I was ready to start tracking that footage again I opened the previous days AE Project and clicked the clip chose Animation and clicked track in Mocha. Mocha wanted to start a new project based on the clip I had to select in order to get the menu choice from inside of AE, so I canceled that and then Mocha opened and I chose recent files and the previous days project.
And then I waited again as Mocha re-cached the clip.
This work flow is aggravating. I have to take extra steps, wait at least 5 minutes for caching each time and then wait for the actual track itself. I have used Mocha before and so I know how to use it, I know the different ways of getting the data to AE, but the problem is not the end of the workflow, it is getting to the start of the work each time I have to close the project(s) that is the problem.
This "workflow" is making me want to see if there is a better way or another program that will help in correcting shaky footage. Yes I get back to exactly where I left off, but the point is the amount of work to it takes to just start working on my project again. I wonder how anyone can tolerate the process.
Is there some magic menu choice or setting somewhere I am missing? Do you feel that this process is "normal"?
