Saving to Spreadsheet File

I have two tables of array of strings that I would like to save in the same file.  How do I save them in the same file making sure that the first table on directly on top of the second table.  Every time I save it, it shows only the first line of each table side by side, But I would like to show the whole table, one of top of the other.  The two tables have different dimensions.

Pondered wrote:
Whenever I try to initialize array, it doesn't let me.  I tried using the 'insert into array' function but it just puts them side by side.
The example above uses initialize arrat to generate some fake table. You already have a table, thus you don't need to initialize any arrays.
It would REALLY help if you could attach a small example demonstrating your problem. Not only do we need to know what you use, but also how you use it.

  • Help with DAQmx tension measurement and saving to spreadsheet file with NI USB-6218 (very urgent !)

    Hello people,
I've been given at the last minute a project at school where I need to do some data acquisitions (tensions) with a DAQ NI USB-6218 and it has
been miserable ever since, I first tried the "easy" way with DAQ assistant to save a given number of samples per channel to a text file
in order to use it in matlab, well...it isn't working : every time in my text file I have a different number of samples, I used the "Write to spreadsheet" function within a while loop where I wired the path outputs to a shift register in order not to have it asking me the path all the time,
but I'm still not getting the X number of samples per channel as specified at the beginning.
So I've been using another method with the DAQmx where I get each individual waveform into a vector of samples, when I look for the size
of the vector it looks Ok, 100 in my case but the problems start when I try to have a text file where each column will represent a channel for
subsequent matlab treatment, what I'm doing doesn't seem to be working, it's really unbearable, please help me sort this mess out.
I'll add both VIs as attachment so it can help you help me, thank you.
Basically what I need is to acquire 15 tensions with a given number of samples per channel (the same for each channel) and then plot it in matlab.
Note the first VI has switches to "unblock" each channel but it doesn't seem to be working, please look at both VIs.
It's very urgent, I could fail my school year if I fail this project.
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Thank you very much for your help, in the meantime, I've changed the project to (see attachment), now
it is at least writing the waveforms to the txt file, but again there is an another problem, it seems to be ignoring the
number of samples I specified per channel, it seems to be writing into the txt file for as long as I keep the VI running.
What is missing ? Also I'd like to have a clock for my samples, that is when I plot in matlab I do not just plot random numbers, but the
physical analogical inputs as a function of time, that is for instance the first line corresponds to time 0, line 2 to time 0,001
ect...How could I do that ? For the meantime I got only 5 channels, when I know what my mistake is, I'll expand it to 15 channels.
    Please help me.

    You can find it here:

If it is CS 5.5 or above, you need someone to open it in the version the script says and export an IDML representation from that. Another way would be to install a 30days version of CS6 or above (CC) and do it yourself.
In regards of the script showing a result for InDesign files higher than CS6:

    Pondered,
The question you are asking is the same one that you asked in: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=132508#M132508, to which I supplied a revised version of the original vi you used (which was modified from the original one I supplied to an earlier thread). A couple of questions: 1) What does my latest not do that is in your question, 2) Why are you starting yet another thread about the same problem?  We are here trying to help, it makes it a lot easier if you keep the same problem in the same thread, it reduces duplication of effort from those that might not have been following the previous thread(s).  Those of us that don't have our "names in blue" are just doing this "for fun" (the blue names are NI employees, who may still be doing it "for fun"), and it makes it more fun if it doesn't seem (correctly or not) that our attempts are ignored.  If an answer doesn't help, or seems incomplete, post a little more detail to the same thread so that the original respondent, or someone new, can provide more information, or understand your problem better.

  • Writing 2-D array to spreadsheet file changes value of time column when saved

I have a program that creates a new row in a table each time the loop performs.  Each time the loop performs and a row is added to the table, the program uses the "write to spreadsheet file.vi" to save this new table over the previous table.  The array is also visible on the front panel of the vi.  The program works in such a way that you can stop adding data to the array, start adding data to a new array, then come back to the original by using the "read from spreadsheet file.vi".  My problem comes after opening the spreadsheet file.  The first column of the array, which corresponds to the time when the data in that row was taken, has different values than those that were seen when the array was originally displayed on the front panel.  In fact, all of the rows that were created the last time the program was run with that array have the same value in the time column, while all of the other columns keep their correct values.  Here is an example of what is happening...
When I start the program, and run it for 5 iterations, I get a table like this displayed on the front panel:
    3241713920
    85.88012
    93.88012
    1.735015...

    3241713960
    84.93667
    92.93667
    1.617084...
This array is saved to the spreadsheet file with each added row.  If I initialize and build another array, then come back to this first array using "read from spreadsheet file.vi," I will receive the following table:
    3241713920
    85.88012
    93.88012
    1.735015...

If anyone could tell me why this is happening and/or how to fix it, that would be greatly appreciated.  One option I have contemplated is just having each individual row appended to the file instead of resaving the entire array with each iteration.  However, I would prefer to do it the way I am currently doing it, so I can pass the array through each time and perform different tasks on it, such as averaging the values in columns over different time periods.  Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

  • Bug in writing Integer Data in Hex in Write Spreadsheet File

It appears that Write to Spreadsheet File forces all data to I64. Try writing an I16 or I32 array with a negative number. Format specification to 4x, 8x or whatever is ignored and you get a full completent of 16 bytes with a lot of FF's at the beginning making it I64

    Hi;
    it's not a bug it's a feature :-)
Whenever you want to format numbers the formatting routine will try to leave as much digits as needed/possible. When you format I8 then 2 digits are ok, I16 needs 4 digits and so on.
You can easily test this behaviour when using the 'Array to spreadsheet string' function (it's also used inside 'Write spreadsheet file'). When saving negative integers as Hex formatted ALL digits are needed to describe the number and so you get all of them in your text file!
The only problem is: 'Write to spreadsheet file' only knows about I64. Whenever you want to save negative numbers you get 16 digits regardless of format string.
    Solution:
Change the 'write to spreadsheet file' as described before or do the formatting on your own by using 'array to spreadsheet string'!

  • Save waveform data with corresponding time array to spreadsheet file

    Hello to all
I am looking for a possibility to save voltage data acquired and displayed continousely to a spreadsheet file. Acquiring and displaying is not a big problem, but I have troubble to save the data with the corresponding timestamp with more than seconds accuracy. I am acquiring the data at 1000 Hz and read packages of 500 samples. The recording time should not be limited, it will be started and stopped manually. In fact the acquired voltage data first has to be scaled and than saved. If I use the 'WRITE WAVEFORM TO SPREADSHEET' VI the time column is in seconds' accuracy and that is not what I need. If I create my own time array from the waveform parameters I have timing problems. The accuracy in time should reflect the sample rate. I will attach one of my not very successful trials for better understanding.
    please help a newcomer!

I also remember building a VI with a small modification to this time stamp generation logic to cater to acq, where number of samples to read is half/one fourth/one tenth of sampling rate specified, but cannot find that VI.

  • How to add data in the saved spreadsheet file

    Hi all,
I am having trouble in adding data onto an already saved spreadsheet file. I don't want to overwrite the old file but modify it, such that the new data is stored below the old data. Or
As I am saving the data in a 2-D array in the VI, where the first row of the array is occupied only, each time I take new measurements the old data is lost, is there a way to keep the old data and store the new one below the old data in the same array. Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

    Hi all,
I have actually managed to find a way to add comments before saving the data. Following steps are followed:
1.) Add a table on the front panell
2.) Connect the table as an indicator to the output array
3.)Finally make a varaible by right clicking on the table indicator (Block diagram) and connect this variable as an input to the Write to Spreadsheet.vi
this way you get the array output into the table and you can add comments in the table and then save it. If any body need any more information then please let me know

  • DAQ vi to perform digital write and read measurements using 32 bits binary data saved in a file

    Hi
DAQ vi to perform digital write and read measurements using 32 bits binary data saved in a file
    Two main
    sections:
    1)
    Perform
write and read operations to and fro different spread sheet files, such that
each file have a single row of 32bits different binary data (analogous to 1D
array) where the left most bit is the MSB. I don’t want to manually enter the
32 bits binary data, I want the data written or read just by opening a file
name saves with the intended data.
          2)
    And
by using test patterns implemented using the digital pattern generator or  build digital data functions or otherwise, I need to
    ensure that the
binary data written to a spreadsheet file or any supported file type
then through the NI-USB 6509 is same as the data read.
    I’m aware I can’t use the simulated
device to read data written to any port but if the write part of the vi works I
‘m sure the read part will work on the physical device which I’ll buy later.
    My Plan
    of action
    I’ve
created a basic write/read file task and a write/read DAQ task for NI USB 6509
and both combine in a while loop to form a progress VI which I’m confuse of how
    to proceed with the implementation.
    My
greatest problem is to link both together with the correct functions or operators
such that there are no syntax/execution errors and thus achieve my intended
    result.
    This
project is one of my many assignments for my master thesis, so please i’ll
appreciate every help as I’m not really efficient with LabVIEW programming but
I prefer it because is fun and interesting if I get to know it.
    Currently I’m
practicing with LabVIEW 8.6/NI DAQmx 8.8 Demo versions and NI USB 6509
    simulated device.

  • Opening Spreadsheet files in LabView

I'm attempting to read spreadsheet files into a LV application. Spreadsheet files that were not written in LV contain garbled data. Similar to wingdings. Spreadsheet files that were written/saved in LV open without wingdings in the format that it was saved.
Textfiles open fine in the same application regardless of where it was written. *ALL FILES ARE STRING*
How can I succesfully read non-LV created files into a LV table without the wingdings?

    I had the same problems.
The attached VI should help.  It reads a excel file and puts it into an array.  It also saves the data as a txt file which i find is alot easier to deal with in labview.

  • Organizing a multiplexer acquired data in a spreadsheet file of a column major order

I am a beginner user of Labview, but I managed to make VI incrementing a running index from 0 to 15 in order to interface with a multiplexer, while providing a predetermined time delay between each cycle of the sixteen iterations. I have just emulated this case study before its practical implementation by constructing a VI saving the analog data acquired from a two analog input ports at each value of the running index in a txt file (File: Multiplexer_Output_Data_Test.pdf). The challenge is how to alternatively store the data in a spreadsheet excel file in which every row has a thirty three cells, or in other words, the first cell has the time stamp, while the next sixteen cells contain the analog data of the first port spanning all the sixteen values of the running index, and the same approach applies for the last sixteen cells associated with the second analog input port. The process repeats itself after the predetermined time delay in the successive rows. In the attached VI, I would like to replace the last frame of saving into text file with my desired form in excel sheet.
Any help would be highly appreciated

  • Help on fonction Write to spreadsheet file

    Hello,
I come on this forum to find a solution for my issue.
I have made a VI which acquires an input voltage and where the user can modify some parameters.
For each iteration of my while loop, I want to save the data in a csv file that's why I'm using the fonction Write to spreadsheet file.
But when I want to use this saved datas in csv format with Excel, the data were saved in string format so not a numeric. My purpose is to have some numerical datas and not strings because I can't do graphics or calculs.
As you can see on the csv saved file, only the iterations of the while loop (column C) are in a numerical format.
Here is my problem, thank you in advance for your help

  • How do you change the default save as directory when saving a PDF file to your hard drive?

This is the on-line help instructions on this site:
Downloading a PDF file to your hard drive
You can download a PDF file to the hard drive from a web page's link. Downloading PDF files doesn't require the ActiveX plug-in file to be installed. (If you want to open and view the PDF file after downloading it, you must have Acrobat, Adobe Reader, or Acrobat Reader installed.)
To download a PDF file from a link:
    1. Right-click the link to a PDF file, and then choose Save Target As from the pop-up menu.
    2. In the Save As dialog box, select a location on your hard drive, and then click Save.
My issue:  I want to save several pdf files (from the Adobe Reader in my browser) one at a time and each time it defaults the save as directory to the desktop and I have to go looking for the directory I last saved a pdf file in.  I got lots of directories and I wish I could change the default setting for the save as directory.  Just a minor thing but irritating as other programs usually will allow you to switch the default save as directory to one of your choosing.

There is not a way to set the default location from all the forums i searched in the last couple days.

I just reread your original post and the way the "Write to Spreadsheet File.vi" that ships with LV works by default is to put 1D arrays into rows. I read your post backwards and told you how to put the data in a column. Sorry.
In any case, perhaps you need to make sure the Transpose input ISN'T true, and that the delimiter IS a tab.
