De-authorize computers

I just purchased a new iMac. Evidently in my Mac-life, I have authorized too many computers (more than 5). Other computers were authorized at a past workplace (under a different email address even) and I don't have access to those computers to de-authorize. I only have and only use two computers in my home. I can now download but cannot play purchased movies and tunes until I "un-authorize" the others (?). I would appreciate any help! Thank you in advance.

You can't authorize more than 5.

  • How Can i De-authorize computers from my itunes account

as people may know it is only possible to have 5 computers authorized to play itunes music however how can i de-authorize computers i don't have anymore, or computers that been restored back to factory settings. as i have 4 registered but only have one computer in use

first of all you open up your itunes, go to itunes store and on the right side you should find "Account" click on that and log in, there should be a button right underneath Change Country, if you click that button, it should reset the authorization back to 0, and you have to re-authorize the computers that you use. If that button doesn't appear you might have to authorize another computer to make it 5 authorized, and then reset the authorization.

  • My main computer broke, can i use one of the 5 authorize computers to purchase and download songs

My main computer broke, and I want to know if I can still purchase and download songs to my apple devices using one of my five authorize computers? It is my wife's computer and she also uses itunes. Can I log her off and use my log-in?

Thanks for your reply, Niel. Basically, I can log in into my wife's computer, log in and download new music I purchased or from a CD into my ipad/iphone/ipod with out a problem since is one of my 5 authorize computers? Sorry for being so inquisitive but I'm not the best when it comes to itunes.
Will all my music load into itunes if once I sign in? or will it just load the songs I've downloaded from the itunes store?
    Many Thanks!

How can I get a list of authorize computers under an Apple ID?
How can I deauthorized a computers under an Apple ID if I do NOT have possession of that computer?
    Thanks

It's not currently possible to see a list of authorised computers, but if you have 2 or more computers authorised then, as described on the page that you posted from, you can log into your account on your computer's iTunes (Store > View My Account, Store > View My Apple ID on iTunes 11) and 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you can then authorise/reauthorise the computers that you still have and need.
Deauthorising a computer doesn't remove any content from it, it just means that you won't be able to use iTunes downloads on it until you reauthorise it

  • De-authorization computers

How do I de-authorize computers I no longer have access to?

You can't deauthorise 'dead' installations or computers you no longer have access to individually. However once you reach the limit of 5 authorisations you have the option to deauthorise them all in one go from your iTunes account and start over. *Just note that you can only use this option once a year*: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation
Once you have all 5 authorisations used up, to deauthorise all computers associated with your account:
    1. Click iTunes Store in the Source pane.
    2. If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
    3. Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
    4. In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.

  • No more room to authorize computers...

    Hi,
I just authorized my new laptop to work with my apple-id.
I got a message that this is the fourth authorized computer out of five available.
Since I have only one more Desktop, it seems that I had authorized some more in the past that I dont have access anymore.
How can I gain back the free space to authorize computers if needed ?
    regards

First de-authorize all computers, then re-authorize the ones you still have.
De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • How can I de-authorize computers without an old email address?

Long story short, I purchased quite a big amount of music from the itunes store way back in the day on an old hotmail account. I switched to gmail 4 years ago and updated my itunes account with the new email address. I recently switched to a new computer and was transfering over my library when it said that I was at the maximum authorizations. I went into my account and followed the steps as stated here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4644232 and that worked fine, the problem is that when I attempt to play the songs it says that I'm still at the maximum authorizations and asks me to sign in with the old hotmail account. I was under the impression that it should have been updated to the gmail, and since its a 4+ year old hotmail account that hasnt been used, the hotmail account no longer exists, so I cant just try to recover the password to try and de-authorize all. All of my older computers itunes all have the gmail as the account login, so I cant try de-authorizing all from any of them. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to de-authorize all computers given that Its asking for an email-password combo that a) should have been updated to the current gmail b) no longer exists as an email?

As a bit of an update, When clicking to authorize a song, it asks you for the email address (hotmail) and a password. I tried entering an old password and it told me that I'm at my maximum authorizeation limit (so i assumed that it meant that password was valid) but when i try to log into the itunes store to follow the de-authorization procedures it says that this is an invalid appleID or password.

  • How do authorize computers

I do not know how to authorize my computer to have my music allowed to play on my computer

    Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

  • De-authorize computers not possible

    hi,
I tried to de-authorize all the computers that i authorized for using my purchased music. But when i log on to my account panel there's no button to de-authorize the computers. It just says i authorized 4 computers but i lost track of which computers they are. I never used this option. So the "deauthorize-only-once-a year" rule doesn't apply...
does anyone know how or what?
    thanks

You will only see that button when you reach the maximum of five authorizations. If these are individual systems, you'll have to deauthorize each one individually through iTunes on each system. If you've forgotten which they are or can no longer access them, then you could authorize a fifth system at which point the Deauthorize option will appear in your iTMS account.

  • Authorize computers 5 of 5 full!

    Hello!
As itunes tells me, I am allowed to authorize up to 5 computers with my ipod touch.
The 1st was with my laptop last year, it had a fatal hardware failure.. 1st gone. I authorized it at my work computer (2nd), the tech guy reinstalled windows to English and I lost #2, then authorized the same computer again, #3. I had another computer and sold it, changed cities, changed jobs, etc.
I am aware that you can unauthorize computers and I did for a couple of instances but I not longer have access to 4 out of 5 of my authorizations.
Long story... I am now at 5 of 5 on this computer. Logically, I would think that you could authorize or unauthorize computers online. What can I do here? Is there a way to reset them all?
Luckily I have never purchased anything on the store that was more than free. So I can probably just make a new apple account. But, it worries me if I had purchased content.
Thanks for reading! Any help is appreciated.

Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article.

  • How to de-authorize computers that have stopped working?

I got a new computer for Christmas and I downloaded iTunes. When I was syncing my iPod, a message popped up asking me to authorize my computer or else many of my apps would be deleted. So I did. After I did it, something like this popped up:
"Thank you, you have authorized 4 out of your available 5 computers."
I know what that means, but I only use ONE of them. All of the other 3 computers have crashed or stopped working, so I can't log back on to iTunes on them and click the thing that says "deauthorize this computer." Is there anyway I can de-authorize them without logging on to them?

  • How to de-authorize computers that no longer exist

I have currently authorized iTunes on 4 computers. However, I only use it on two computers. The other two computers no longer exist.
Is there a way to de-authorize those non-existent computers?
    Thanks.

As far as I can remember, you are allowed to authorize up to 5 computers. if you log into your iTunes store account, you may see a "Deauthorize All" button. I would start there.
If you do not see the button, you may have to authorize 5 computers to be able to deauthorize all. if that's the case, find a computer, authorize it and check again.

  • Can I de-authorize computers no longer connected/in use?

Tossed a couple computers without de-authorizing. Can I "de-authorize all" and re - authorize those that we still have??

    Yes.
Apple limits the option to de-authorize to once every 12 months.

  • Is there a way to de-authorize computers w/o access to de-authorize all ?

Ok...I know there is the "de authorize" all option if you have reached your five authorizations, and you can use it once every 12 months.
However, here is my problem, I never knew about the whole de-authorization thing before I sold my other computers a couple years ago. I currently show that I'm using three of my authorizations, although I only want ONE of them authorized, as I have sold (some time ago) my other computers that WERE authorized.
Is there a way that they can be de-authorized to give me back my full five? Is this something that iTunes store or Apple need to do? Should I even worry about those two wandering out there? I don't have any other computers that I can install iTunes on to take it up to my five to de-authorize all.
    Thanks!

I have gone to view my account info numerous times, and the de-authorize all option is never shown. Only showing me that I have 3 computers authorized out of the 5 available.
I am going to itunes store / view my account, I enter my account login and then it tells me I'm using 3 of my 5, with no option to de-authorize all.
