Dealing with XML  as  database

Hello members,
My requirement is to deaI with xml totally as a database instead of taking any data base(like oracle etc..).I.e i have to deal with all the operations like update,delete, insert etc to the xml file from my java application.So that my application willl idependent from database.
I am not finding any information regarding doing update and delete operations from a java application to XML file(the information i am getting is only how to read and write into the XML file ) and i am not able implement all these stufs to my project.
If any body have any idea help me so that i can move further.
Thanks
Mahi

If you have decided to go ahead with using XML as a d/b then JAXB will be an ideal place to start, at some point you will need to convert XML to java objects and vice versa, then search for the appropriate node in the xml and do delete or update option.
If you are still pondering over - to use or not to use XML I suggets you to use simple flat files (thats what I do in my project; and it does work fine)
I store incomming & outgoing SMS in flatfiles (serialized objects). processes like insertion/deletion/update are all done by keeping the file pointer position in memory and I traverse to the exact location (using io.randomAccessFile) of the file and change the record.
You may try a similar approch in using XML where you may allocate same size for each child node in the XML and mapping each child to a File pointer position in memory and traverse to the exact child to delete/update/insert, so when you make an update - you will actually be writing to a file pointer position in the file and the XML child node will be re-written-over by a new XML data (similar to update in a d/b); when you delete a XML chile node, traverse to that File pointer position and remove it in the file, but that file pointer position remains open/active; where you can write your next record...

    I followed a procedure described in a book.
    1. insert "Inventory.xml" file to a project "WpfXmlDataBinding" .
    2. add the XML data source through the data panel of "blend for 2013", named it "InventoryXmlDataStore" and store it in the current document.

  • Seeking for API to deal with XML processing instructions

    Hi all,
    I have a requirement to list all the processing instructions inside a xml document.
    E.g. For the document
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <?AAA att1="att 1"?>
    <?BBB?>
    <?CCC?>
    <body>
      <empty>True</empty>
    </body>
    I need to print out PIs AAA, BBB, CCC.
    Two solutions i can find are:
    1. to treat the doc as a string and do a pattern search for <?*?>.
    2. use IF_IXML_DOCUMENT to traverse all the nodes and check their node types against IF_IXML_NODE=>CO_NODE_PI_PARSED and TYPE = IF_IXML_NODE=>CO_NODE_PI_UNPARSED.
    However, I am wondering if there's any xml API to deal with XML PIs.
    During my research on this, i got IF_IXML_DOCUMENT. It provides two creation APIs for XML PI: CREATE_PI_PARSED and CREATE_PI_UNPARSED. However, there is no corresponding getter API found.
    Does anybody know if there is such one?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello everybody. I am trying to read, write and modify xml file in java. But i don't know what is the best method for work with xml file ?>'It depends'. I saw some discussions of XML parsing using different J2SE core XML APIs (the J2SE has a selection of ways to deal with XML) where one API was 20 times faster than the other.

    You will probably need to do a lot of reading, as well as some experimentation, before you decide which XML API is best suited to the particular task you are facing.

  • Stumped with XML

    I know this is a really basic question. But for some reason I
    am not figuring it out. I have created a dynamic text field that I
    am loading XML into. Now I have it working so it can be traced. But
    I can't figure out how to get the XML to load into my text field.
    Below is the code for my XML.
    If someone could help or point me to a tutorial I would
    appreciate the help.
    Thanks,
    Khester

    Great, glad to hear it worked! :)
    AS3's XML model uses the E4X method to deal with XML, which
    makes it pretty easy to access the actual text values for a field.
    I could try to give you a bunch of incomplete examples, but the way
    I learned about it was reading through the section "Working with
    XML" in the Programming ActionScript 3.0 section of the Flash help.
    If you don't have the help files, you can check it out at the Adobe
    site at
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ActionScript/3.0_ProgrammingAS3/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118a9 b90204-7ff5.html
    I know it can be tedious to read this kind of thing, but
    honestly reading through this helped me get a great handle on how
    to deal with XML in ActionScript, and I feel it would be very much
    worth your time to check out. Good luck!

  • Dealing with null values from a database (easy?)

    I'm sure this should be a simple question :
    I'm creating a dynamic dropdown of my companies products that once a product is selected draws values (links) from a database and displays them (links to User guides, FAQs etc).
    My problem is dealing with blank entries in the database - i.e. if a product doesn't have a User guide I've left the database blank.
    I'd like to show 'none' or 'not available' if the entry is blank rather than the 'null' I currently get.
    I'm sure it should be a straightforward if .... else .... but I'm struggling and would appreciate any help,
    Many thanks,

  • How to deal with file(for example .xml)? what format of dir should be?

    How to deal with file dir? what format of dir should be?

    Hi Kamlesh,
    Thanks for your response.
    Actually, In the "Process External Bank Statement" window, i see that there are few entries which is for the previous year and which has not been reconciled. I have never worked practically on BRS and hence, i am scared to make any changes in the clients database without being confident on what i am doing. I need to reconcile for one of their Bank a/c for the month of April '08. I have the copy of the statements for the month ending 31st Mar 08 and 30th Apr 08. The closing balances are as below:
    31/03/08 - 2300000.00
    30/04/08 - 3100000.00
    Now my OB for Bank a/c for April '08 in SAP is 2300000.00 Dr.
    When i go to External Bank Reconciliation - Selection Criteria Screen (Manual Reconciliation), here are the detail that i enter:
    Last Balance: INR -7,000,000.00000 (Grayed out by the system)
    Ending Balance: INR -3,100,000.00000 (Entered by me)
    End Date: 30/04/08 (Entered by me)
    "Reconciliation Bank Statement" Screen opens up and shows the below balances in the screen:
    Cleared Book Balance: INR -7,000,000.00000
    Statement Ending Balance: INR -3,100,000.00000
    Difference: INR 3,800,000.00000
    As per the Bank statement, i have found all the transactions listed out here for the month of Apr '08 but, i also found that the open transactions for the previous month from April '08 have been lying in "Process External Bank Statement" window.
    Could you please help me solve my issue as to what needs to be done or could you also get me some links from where i can get few documents for processing External Bank Reconciliations?
    That will be of a great help for me. I need steps as to what needs to be done first and then the next so that i can arrive at the correct closing balance for the month April '08.
    Thanks in Advance....

  • Dealing with inherited xml facts in business rules

    Hello Everyone,
    I encountered a problem while writing business rules for an xml input message which is of abstract type. The schema follows the xml inheritance and the structure is somewhat like -
    Document (abstract)
    *|*
    Message (abstract)
    *|*
    NotificationMessage (abstract)
    *|*
    *|-ContractCreated (concrete)*
    *|-ContractCancelled*
    *|-ContractUpdate*
    *|-ContractEnhance*
    The input for buiness rules is a variable of type "Document". Rule wizard has generated all jaxb classes correctly.
    Now when I am writing a if-then rule as below -
    If Document is ContractCreated and ....
    +....+
    the compiler warns with message :- RUL-05162: The rule set "Ruleset1" requires fact type "ContractCreated", but this type is not part of the input.
    How to deal with such xml facts where input is abstract type and rule needs to be applied on concrete definition??
    Note- The incoming xml messages are instances of schema that is used across the applications hence schema cannot be modified.
    Thanks,
    Viv

    Can you verify and make sure, you have sleceted the "Tree" option for the input of the Decision Function.

    Hello,
    How about this as an alternative:
    Use a functional global which has 3 cases:
    1. open config file - it opens the config file and reads the contents into a string (which is the functional global data), and you only do this one time at the beginning of the program.
    2. edit config data - it edits the string, which are really the contents of the file, but doesn't worry about writing to the file.  you could even get fancy here, and allow an array of tags and an array of values as input, and it would go update/edit all the tags to have the corresponding values.
    3.  close config file - it writes the current string data (the functional global data) to the file and closes it.
    Using the functions in the string palette, I think you'll find most of the code for that module/functional global will be easy to write.
    I hope this helps!

    Hi Paulbin,
    Do you want to supply a function-pointer to a DLL so it can call[back] your VI?  Here's how it can be done with .NET, though, that solution requires a C compiler.   A single "VI_to_function-reference" utility could handle all cases where the callback passes no parameters.  Maybe someday somebody will share that dll.
    Did you know that LabVIEW can use Events for some COM-signals change?  See pic.  (Note: DTR is not listed - - )
    Another question is another function's prototype is WORD SetTestType(WORD comHandle, bool type1, bool type2, bool type3),   I tried to use a boolean control and a Boolean to (0,1) node in labVIEW to pass parameters to CLF, I config the bool input value as U8(according to C++ bool type) and U32(according to WIN32 BOOL type), it dose not help, when I execute the VI, LabVIEW will be disappeare, it seems to be closed, I must start it again.
    Could someone has similar experience on this points?
    It's easy to crash LabVIEW misusing CLF - maybe there's another reason for the crash besides bool mis-match(?)  Do you know which "Calling convention" is required?  What type is comHandle? (where does comHandle come from?)
    Cheers!

  • XSU: Dealing with large tables / large XML files

    Hi,
    I'm trying to generate a XML file from a "large" table (about 7 million lines, 512Mbytes of storage) by means of XSU. I get into "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" even after raising the heap size up to 1 Gbyte (option -Xmx1024m of the java cmd line).
    For the moment, I'm involved in an evaluation process. But in a near future, our applications are likely to deal with large amount of XML data, (typically hundreds of Mbytes of storage, which means possibly Gbytes of XML code), both in updating/inserting data and producing XML streams from existing data in relationnal DB.
    Any ideas about memory issues regarding XSU? Should we consider to use XMLType instead of "classical" relational tables loaded/unloaded by means of XSU?
    Any hint appreciated.

  • Updating with XML datafiles from Database or Applications Server

    Our Environment: One database server running 10g with multiple application servers.
    My Question: Am I correct in saying that if you want to update a database with XML files using a bfilename and a directory object, that the physical data files must always reside on the Database server?
    Thanks and kind regards
    Adrian

    Thank you very much for the reply.
    Our systems all operate under Unix and I was wondering whether you or anyone else knows if anyone has successfully tried to use 'soft links' to span the file systems to other machines.
    There's obviously a performance downside, but what we are trying to accomplish is leaving all 'data files' on our individual application servers.

  • XML Publisher with Non Oracle databases

    Hi,
    Can we use XML Publisher with non oracle databases like Postgres ,mySQL etc.

    Hi
    Not sure if you're talking Apps or non but you can do it equally with both. Check out the Data Engine in the user guide and look for Distributed Queries. XMLP will need a jdbc connection to the db but you can then pass a query and get XML back.
    You can even write one query to pull back say customers from Oracle and their invoices from MySQL, you'll get a merged data set back with a master detail relationship btw customers-invoices

  • Dealing with non-database elements!!

    hi all, i knew that i have to deal with non-database elements from javascript code and not from SQL code.. but i need to do some processing from SQL code and then update non-database element, how could i do this??

    You should use <?if:element = ''?> or <?if:element != ''?>
    This should work also:
    <?if:text(element)?> or <?if:not(text(element))?>
    The condition is always true (false) when either the element is empty or does not
    exist. Let me know, if you need to differentiate between both (probably using name() instead of text will work in this case).
    If a pagebreak is inside the if statement than it is only shown when the condition is satisfied.
    Hope that helps,
    Klaus
