Updating with XML datafiles from Database or Applications Server

Our Environment: One database server running 10g with multiple application servers.
My Question: Am I correct in saying that if you want to update a database with XML files using a bfilename and a directory object, that the physical data files must always reside on the Database server?

Thank you very much for the reply.
Our systems all operate under Unix and I was wondering whether you or anyone else knows if anyone has successfully tried to use 'soft links' to span the file systems to other machines.
There's obviously a performance downside, but what we are trying to accomplish is leaving all 'data files' on our individual application servers.

Please try to resolve this long awaited issue with Planning installation as this is purely configuration related issue.
Detail of Problem:-
After Susessful configuration of
1) Foundation Services (Hyperion Shared Services)
2) Essbase administration services
3) Essbase Server
4) Hyperion reporting and analysis
5) Planning -----> Product options, Register with shared services, configure database, deploy to application server (Appache)
Error Point: when i tick ckeck box in front of Product instance registration

I am trying to configure Planning and getting the following error message at instance configuration step:
"Error while retreiving xml file from database"
We looked at PlanningSystemDB.properties, changes server name to its ip, reinstalled planning, made sure both auth methods are selected (sql server and windows), created new relational repository.. still the same error.

After spending 2+ hrs with Hyperion Support nothing got resolved.. Just to give more background on this problem, we originally reconfigured all Hyperion components to use different SQL server, that is when the problem started happening as soon as we got to Planning Instance Configuration. Could this be the situations when old server name is still somewhere in the system?.. Could this be Shared Services problem.

Hello All,
I have installed and configured planning with Shared services. While I try to create an instance in Configuration Utility by entering the Instance Name, Host Name, Port (8300) and Click "Next", I get this error -

My RDBMS is - SQL Server 2005
OS - Windows 2003 Server
I am unable to work on planning for few months due to this error.. I would sincerely appreciate if someone can provide me a solution for this..

Hi,
Ive seen this before.
If this is a new environment could you create a blank database and configure it as your System database? Then try again and you should be fine.
I think you may have some invalid entries in your sys database.

I agree with Viorel. You are getting the error because the format of the data is incorrect probably because the data was modify. It may not be the reading of the database the is incorrect, but the application that wrote the data into the database. You need
to compare the imgg array data with the data before it was written to the database to see if the data matches. I usually start by comparing the number of bytes which is easier to check then compare the actual to isolate which function is changing the
byte count.
An image is binary data. The standard VS methods for reading and writing data (usually stream classes) default to ASCII encoding which will corrupt binary data. The solution usually is to use UTF8 encoding instead of the default ascii encoding.
Ascii encoding with stream often aligns the data and adds extra null bytes to the end of the data which can produce these type errors.

I am very new to this forum...this is my first mail to this forum...
1.) Actually I would like to know how to fetch XML files from database and then how to get the datas from that XML files???Right now i am using struts frame work...If u anyone send some sample code for this one,it is Very helpful for me.....
2.)Using java ,how to generate Barcodes?In database I have Some serial number.While I try to display the serial number in Front end ,I should display with Barcode Corresponding to that number.Plz send some sample codes if u have.....

I install Planning 9.3.1 at Windows2003 server SP1 and MS SQL 2000 SP3A. In Hyperion Planning Instance Registration I take "System Failure:-Error while retreiving xml file from database" error in Configuration .

Here 'return currentElement;' return the collection of elements.But when I print
document it is giving only last element.I am not getting how only one record is printing even it has more records

Here when I printing the document it is giving out put like :

The is displaying only one field information even though table contains more then one column.If we maintain all the aboue code in single method it is working fine.I want to decouple the like above.Bcz I may have more then one set of elements like this.

Help with Retrieve attributes from database

Hi,
I'm using filter "Retrieve from or write to database" with select query from database by selecting attributes as column names radio button.
I'm unable to get these user attributes with column names.
For eg : select tag from test_tag where rownum=1;
I was trying so that result can be used using tag attribute (${tag}).
Please help in this regard.

Hi Vani,
After the retrieve filter, add a Trace Filter and leave it as it is. Execute the policy once and in the trace data that now will be displayed there you should be able to read out the exact name and type of the parameter. This way of identifying data/parameters etc is a recommended way of working while developing! Copy paste the Trace Data from the Trace filter here if you need help!

I suppose that probably, xml data are stored in a BlobImage Field.
You can use a Stored Procedure on Database Side, to select and put out the xml data structured in output fields or structures.
From JDBC Sender channel, you can call the SP, that raise out a Structure formatted like the XML Data stored in Xml Database field.
In your opinion, this should be a possible way to achieve this issue?

Hello Steve. I'm getting the same error message as Carlos got when he tried to fire up the SRDemo. Following logon the splash screen has this error message:

Failed to checkout SRService application module. Ensure your datasource name is SRDemo [case-sensitive!] and that connection settings are properly defined for a database with the SRDEMO schema installed. See server log for more exception details...
Apparently you guys have figured out a fix for this, but my command of JDeveloper/J2EE jargon is pretty limited at this point in my learning curve. (I've heard about Jndi, but have no idea what it does). Is there a statement I can add to the web.xml file that will fix this? If so, what is that statement, and where does it go in web.xml?

Is there any process to upload data from excel to application server other than reading the data from excel to z program through gui_upload and transferring the data to application server.
