Debugging a J2EE Application

Hi,
I´m trying configuring debug on a J2EE Application.
But when I select one intance with debug mode on appears follow message:
"The selected server node does not run in restricted load balancing mode ! Please configure it correctly so that the URL extension can be used."
Anyone knows how configure it ?

Hi,
Before any debugging can take place Server Node of J2EE cluster must first switched to debug mode
There are 2 ways of debugging
1) Temporary
2) Permanent
For temporary switched debug mode ON using J2EE engine view in NWDS
For permanent switched debug moce ON using J2EE Visual Administrator
Option 1: Start the SAP AS Engine in debug mode through Config Tool:
1. To enable the debug mode from the Config Tool, visit following path :
C:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC<SYS_NO>\j2ee\configtool\configtool.bat
2. Click on the particular instance. Then under the tab VM Environment, Set the DebugMode = true.
3. Restart the engine now. This will open the J2EE server again in the Debug Mode.
Option 2: Starting the local debug session
1. Select "SDM" from J2EE engine (To get this view navigate through Window -> Show View -> J2EE Engine)
2. Make a right click on "SDM" and choose "Enabling Debugging of Process"
3. Now, Navigate to Run -> Debug -> Select your Project as "Webdynpro Application" and click "new" button
4. Now give some name and Click "Browse" to select you project and then click "Apply" and "Debug".

Problem with remote debuging web start application

Hi,
There is the J2EE application with desktop client (it uses JNLP). In production everything is all right, but when i'm debugging it using eclipse, application always throws SecurityException (class "oracle.retail.sim.closed.item.StockItem"'s signer information does not match signer information of other classes in the same package). This occurs only when class loader is trying to load this class). Somebody have any sugestion? Where is the problem?

Hi,
May be you can put an external breakpoint in the method "_get_attribute_rtti"(of class CL_WDR_CONTEXT_NODE_INFO).
From that you can find out which attribute is causing the dump , and try to solve the issue . May be some data dictionary object is not transported to production.(Assuming that you have permission to put breakpoints in production system..:))

Error while configuring Debugging for WebDynpro Application

Hi Experts,
I am trying to configure Portal server for debugging a WebDynpro application.
In NWDS , in Debug configuration
When i tried to add my Webdynpro Project and application under Debug tab , No problem.
But when i checked J2EE Engine tab : it showed the following error.
[J2EE Engine]: the selected server node does not run in restricted load balancing mode, please configure it correctly so that the URL extention can be used
And ignoring it when i started debugging the application , the URL was formed like this :
http://<host>:50000/@@@DEBUG@@@7672950/webdynpro/dispatcher
/local/WDtest/WDtest?SAPtestId=1
with the error : The requested resource does not exist.
Details: Go to main page of this application!
Can anybody help me to fix the configuration.

Hi,
To configure to the debugging mode... follow the steps:
1. Select "SDM" from J2EE engine (To get this view navigate thru Window--> Show View --> J2EE Engine)
2. Make a right click on "SDM" and choose "Enabling Debugging of Process"
3. Now, Navigate to Run --> Debug --> Select your Project as "Webdynpro Application" and click "new" button
4. Now give some name and Click BROWSE to select ur project and then click APPLY and DEBUG
Or if u use 2004s, then u can do the settings in Portal itself...which gives u more clear information... follow the link

How to get deployment time of an J2EE application

Hi All,
I am developing J2EE applications on NetWeaver 7.0 and 7.1. In my application, I need to get deployment time of a J2EE application installed in the J2EE engine.
For NetWeaver 7.1, I found SAP's Java APIs to do that:
com.sap.engine.services.deploy.server.cache.dpl_info.Applications.get("appName").getMonitorData().getDateOfLastRedeployment();
But for NetWeaver 7.0, I haven't found any similar stuffs.
Could you give me any helps for the case of NetWeaver 7.0?

I'm not 100% sure but you may be able to turn on tracing for the Java stack "Deploy" service.
In Visual Administrator, go to "Global Conf [Server] -> services -> Deploy" change additional_debug_info.
Then in "Cluster [server x] -> services -> log configurator [locations] -> com -> sap -> engine -> services -> deploy" change the debug level to "Info" or something.
This should put some additional tracing out to the trace files which can be viewed in the Log Viewer.
Don't forget to reset the trace level when you're done.

Error while running a J2EE application on Oracle10gAS

Hi Somil,
I've just had this same error message, and it was because I had a bogus character in my JSP sources. I'd cut-and-pasted the text from a Word document, and it included the "registered trademark" sign (an R in a circle) as a single character. This worked in my test environment, but not in my production environment (where presumably the default encoding is different). I replaced the character with the equivalent HTML entity &reg; (ie. the five characters & r e g ; ) and it all worked.
Have a look through the offending JSPs and see whether you have any characters that might be incompatible with your default encoding (anything that isn't plain old 7-bit ASCII is potentially a problem). Change them to HTML entities and you should be fine.

SSO to J2EE application from SAP Portal

I am trying to do SSO from SAP Portal to a J2EE engine which runs on SAP Web AS.
Here are my queries
1. When I deploy a J2EE application on Web AS , I dont get any login screen. How can I make sure that if a user wants to access this J2EE application he should get a login screen and provide his login credentials first, only then would he be able to access the J2EE application.
2.When I am done with Part 1. If a user tries to access this J2EE application from the Portal (asuming the user Id's in Portal and J2EE application are same and both are in the same domain) , I should not get any login screen and should be able to view the J2EE application.
3.I want to use SAP Logon tickets generated by the Portal to enable SSO.
I have done all the necessary configurations in the J2EE server.
1. Imported the Portal's verify.der certificate.
2. Adjusted the login modules stack for the application accordingly.
Can anyone please help me out with this or throw some light.

Let me give you the solution for both questions differently.

Ans: For doing this in the code of your J2EE application you have to write a if statement which will check if the user ID is coming from the backend or not. If yes then you display that logon page else you just pass that username which is coming from backend and displ;ay the page accordingly.

Ans: Yes, this is what I am explaining you. Even I had also made same kind of J2EE application in which if the user is coming from the backend then he/she will look the J2EE screen else if the username is not coming then he will se the Login screen. Exactly same as what are looking for.
3.I want to use SAP Logon tickets generated by the Portal to enable SSO.
Ans: I have used User Mapping instead of SAP Logon ticket. Well that is also the option for SSO but personally I think User Mapping is easy and better way for implementing SSO.
I dont know whether this will help you or not. Please let me know. I can definately help if you want to implement SSO using User Maping.

SSO:Portal to J2EE Application

Hi all,
I have developed a simple java application that has user-id & password textboxes along with a submit button.(login.jsp)
this is deployed as an iView in the server.
When the submit button is clicked,it navigates 2 another JSP page(welcome.jsp) that displays the user's name if the id and passowrd matches with that present in the backend DB.
I want 2 display this welcome page directly without prompting for a logon frm the user.
How can i do this with AppIntegrator?I referd the following <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/thread?threadID=95024">thread</a>I cant find the system uri,in the source code of the application!
How should i proceed further?

Hi Swarna,
Kindly try these steps..I have accumulated the points as per the discussions on mail.
Just try all these steps..
1) I hope you have created a J2EE application which has its own data source (i.e: tables in the Data Dictionary which has enteries for user and Password).
2) Create a HTTP system for usermapping.
3) After that perform all the steps as mentioned in the WebLog for the App integrator. (i.e: do the user mapping to the system by providing the User name and password.)
4) In the J2EE Application write the code that If that username which you got from the URL and the userName in your data source is same then show him the main page directly, else show him the Login Page.
5) Create a URL View in which you can put your application. Set the admin,user property from the User Management.
I hope all these will solve your problem!! Kinldy check this!!

Unable to connect to the OracleForms application through a J2EE application

Hi there,
I have deployed a custom J2EE application in Middleware instance of my Oracle 10g AS 10.1.2
The application is sso enabled . Once a user logs in the application he is able to see a jsp in which i display hyperlinks for him to access.
One of these hyperlinks is pointing to the forms application.
the url is http://psc-pc0592:7778/forms/frmservlet?config=abs_deploy[b]
Once i click on the URL the forms applet begins to load but as the applet opens up i get the database logon screen.This should not happen
I am already logged and have been verified by sso.
Also the forms configuration is associated with a datasource.
I am not able to get as to why i get that screen when it shoud directly connect to the forms application.
Any help on this is appreciated.

when you go through your carrier provider, there is an additional step in the SSL tunnel. Not sure how this transcribes, but it is possible that your carrier does not use the same port as the one you want it to use.

J2EE application access from Portal - P4ObjectBroker

hey all,
I want to access access a J2EE application (Web Service) from a Portal Component. The documentation at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/c0/a584409db95537e10000000a1550b0/content.htm shows an example.
They import the package com.sap.engine.services.rmi_p4.P4ObjectBroker. I cannot find the package on my system, i.e. my local portal installation.
Does anybody know what kind of package is required, or where I can find this package...

Hey Sascha,
the P4ObjectBroker is part of the implementation of the P4 Provider Service on the J2EE Engine. It is part of the com.sap.engine.services.rmi_p4 package.
If you can't find it I recommend you to search it using ClassLocator, it is a plugin that indexes all your packages and locates the propar class for you.
You can download it at this link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/classlocator
Read the instructions of how to use it with the NWDS, it is really simple. If you need more help do tell me.

Is anyone doing disaster recovery for a J2EE application?

We generally use database log shipping to maintain a standby database for our ABAP instances. We can successfully fail over our production application to our disaster recovery site with no real issues. With the J2EE instances (EP, ESS/MSS, BI, etc), we have a few concerns:
hostname cannot change, without going through a system copy procedure, so we would have to keep the hostnames in DR the same. (for example, ref: oss note 757692 - changing hostname is not supported)
fully qualified domain name - from what I understand, there are potentially issues with changing the fqdn, for example SSO certificates, BSPs, XI has issues, etc.
we can't keep both hostname and fqdn the same between DR and production, or we could never do a DR test.
Has anyone implemented disaster recovery for any SAP J2EE application that has run into these concerns and addressed them? Input would be greatly appreciated regarding how you addressed these issues, or how you architected your disaster recovery implementation.

I haven't done this personally, but I do have some experience with these issues in different HA environments.
To your first point: You can change the hostname, note 757692 tells you exactly how to do it. However like the note says, "Changing the name of a host server in a production system is not automatically supported by SAP." When it says "supported by SAP" I think it means SAP the company, not SAP's software. So I would contact SAP to see if this configuration would be covered under your service agreement. Then you have to think about whether you want to do something that isn't "officially supported" by SAP. Also I'm sure you'll need some kind of additional licensing for the DR systems as their hardware keys will de different.
To your second point: As for SSO certs (SAP Login Tickets), I think they should still work as long as the SID and client number of the issuing system remain the same. I don't think they are hostname or fqdn dependant. For BSPs I would think they would still work as long as they use relative paths rather than absolute paths. And for XI... I have no idea what kind of issues may arise, I'm not an XI guy.
Again, I haven't done what you're describing myself. This is just based on my HA experiences.

Portal User details and credentials for a J2EE application?

I am trying to access a J2EE application which is deployed in SAP Web Application Server. I want to maintain the security of this application depending the portal user. So I want to get the user id of the portal login to my J2EE application. For Example:
A user with id "super" is logging into portal I want the userid "super" in my J2EE application how to get the userid to my J2EE application's servlet. Is this possible? If possible please tell how I can acheive it?
Can I do it by creating HTTP System? If possible can u tell me where can I set the URL?

Certainly you can get the user id of the portal login in your J2EE application by using UME api's
IUserFactory userFact = UMFactory.getUserFactory();
getUserFactory().getUser(String uniqueID)
getUserFactory().getUserByLogonID(String logonID)

Login to different J2EE applications

Dear developers:
How can we design the login process for J2EE applications, so that a user (who has already logged into one application) won't be required to log in again to the second application.
The reason we are trying to do this, is because we have different application for different scope, such as Sales application and Purchasing application. Some users will be using both applications.
I think, to achieve this, session information of one application must be carried to the second application. But...... it looks like SUN Servlet 2.1 spec won't allow this to happen.
How can we design the systems, so the users will be required to login only once????

Can you have a single point of entry for both systems and then use controller classes to route the requests appropriately?
Maybe when the user logs into the system you can bind some kind of user profile object to their session which will keep track of whether they are a sales application user or a purchasing application user or both. Then when the user submits a request, your single point of entry can apply the appropriate filters to ensure the user is accessing a page which they are entitled to view. If they do not have proper permissions then you can forward their request to some error page notifying them of their lack of privileges.
