Debugging weblogic

Hello techies,
Iam using weblogic 7.0 which supports jdk1.3 (by default).
I want to know how to debug the weblogic server.
Does i need to change any starting scripts i.e. startWLS.cmd (or) any other script.
If so how to do it??
Also i want to know how to change jdk1.3(default in weblogic 7.0) to jdk1.4.
Can any body tell what is the process to change the jdk??
What r the jar file that needs to be put in the classpath for running servlet programs??
Actually iam having jdk5.0 and set classpath and my java programs are working fine.
when i tried to run the servlets it is showing errors.
can any body tell me why iam getting errors??
Thanks(inadvance),
ramu

I dont think you have to put anything in the classpath to run a servlet successfully in weblogic
What are you trying to achieve by trying to debug weblogic server.
Did you deploy the servlets properly into weblogic.
Check the weblogic manual for instructions on how to do it . Its very simple, check it out

  • Debug weblogic jsp with jbuilder4EE

              Hi,
              Is it possible to debug an J2EE application based on jsp /JBeanProxy/ EJB (weblogic 5.1) using jbuilder4 EE ?
              Currently, I've only managed to use the tomcat module which is provided with JBuilder4 and
              debug the weblogic EJB if I use a standalone client application. My problem is I'd like to
              debug jsp pages using weblogic engine.
              Thanks.

    Having related issues, trying to debug WebLogic 5.1 Servlets with
              JBuilder4EE. Again, all I can locate via docs, etc. is JBuilder4 debugging
              with Tomcat.
              However, I'm also running into erratic problems with JBuilder/Tomcat Servlet
              debugging, where the debugger randomly losses variable references, and
              'stepping' through the code often results in 'running' past all remaining
              breakpoints that were set.
              Any similar problems or possible solutions??

  • Debugging Weblogic apps across the network

    I am trying to debug a Weblogic app running on Sun from NetBeans running on Windows.
    I am invoking Weblogic on Sun as follows:
    java $JAVA_OPTIONS -classpath $CLASSPATH -Dweblogic.Domain=xyz -Dweblogic.Name=xyzServer
    -Dbea.home=/export/home/nbhatia/sandbox -Djava.security.policy==/export/home/smitta/sandbox/wlserver6.0sp1/lib/weblogic.policy
    -Dweblogic.management.password=$WLS_PW -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,address=8999,suspend=n
    weblogic.Server
    As soon as I put the -Xrun option shown above, Weblogic refuses to start. The
    error I get is:
    Transport dt_socket failed to initialize, rc = 509.
    FATAL ERROR in native method: No transports initialized
    Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    I have been able to connect with the following line:
    "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java" -hotspot -ms64m -mx64m -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE
    -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,address=8787 -classpath %CLASSPATH% -Dweblogic.Domain=mydomain
    -Dweblogic.Name=myserver "-Dbea.home=D:\bea" "-Djava.security.policy==D:\bea\wlserver6.0sp1/lib/weblogic.policy"
    -Dweblogic.management.password=%WLS_PW% weblogic.Server
    I had to move the -hotspot in front of the debug statements in order for the server
    to start. Why that matters I don't know... but it started up (very slowly).

  • Debug weblogic.properties conversion error

    All,
    I'm attempting to use the web console application/Convert weblogic.properties link to perform a propterties file conversion.
    I'm getting a conversion error when converting our current weblogic.properties file. This properties file is working fine in WL5.1. The web console begins the conversion process ok, but it fails before completion (html err msg below).
    I'm trying to determine the cause of this error, but there's very little output reported to the console, except a couple of warnings. Also, I don't see any log files.
    I do get what looks like some partial conversion results in my new domain directory in fileRealm.properties. There are recognizable properties from the converted weblogic.properties file in here.
    Has anyone encountered/surmounted similiar difficulty? Any debugging tips would be appreciated. TIA.

  • Debug Weblogic 10.0 with 2-Way SSL: Error 401--Unauthorized

    Hi,
    I am working on Weblogic 10.0 with 2-Way SSL configuration. User uses X.509 certificate to login into the system. • How best to debug Weblogic 10.3 request slowness

    We recently migrated our app from another container to Weblogic 10.3 and are having significant performance problems. We are struggling to put our finger on the actual issue. Does anyone have any suggestions for debugging the below problem that might push us in a direction to resolve this?
    Client is a standalone process and the server process is a stateless session bean in a 3 managed server cluster w/ 'random-affinity' load balancing policy (we have to use this policy due to other app requirements). When the client calls the ejb we see either the request to the server get delayed or the response back from the server get delayed. Here is example of getting delayed coming back.
    Client - 14.29.20.875 findByFilter() RQID=1289593760875 - START
    Server - 14:29:20.878 findByFilter() RQID=1289593760875_null - START
    Server - 14:29:20.892 findByFilter() - FINISHED - 13 ms
    Client - 14.29.22.879 findByFilter() - FINISHED - returned in 2004 ms.This call does a simple select against our database and we are not setting a container managed transaction strategy so no transaction is being explicitly created. The object returned from this call is only 3 KB. We don't understand where the ~ 1.9 seconds are going. They seem to be lost to WL post method processing, network latency, or something else. Has anyone run into this or has any suggestions for what to look at from a WL perspective to debug further?
    Lance Johnson

    You can use a diagnostic module to debug the timing. The diagnostic module must be placed
    in the META-INF directory (also where application.xml is located) and must be called weblogic-diagnostics.xml.
    An example of a diagnostic module is the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <wldf-resource xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-diagnostics"
                   xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
                   xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-diagnostics
                   http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-diagnostics/1.0/weblogic-diagnostics.xsd">
        <instrumentation>
            <enabled>true</enabled>
            <wldf-instrumentation-monitor>
                <name>AddKlantInstrumentationEJB</name>
                <action>MethodInvocationStatisticsAction</action>
                <location-type>around</location-type>
                <pointcut>execution(* datamodel.logic.BedrijfBean addKlant(...))</pointcut>
            </wldf-instrumentation-monitor>
            <wldf-instrumentation-monitor>
                <name>OnMessageInstrumentationMDB</name>
                <action>MethodInvocationStatisticsAction</action>
                <location-type>around</location-type>
                <pointcut>execution(* datamodel.logic.BedrijfMDB onMessage(...))</pointcut>
            </wldf-instrumentation-monitor>
        </instrumentation>
    </wldf-resource>You also need to a create diagnostic system modules using the WebLogic Console and target the module
    to the appropriate server and enable instrumentation using the Enabled checkbox on the Instrumentation Configuration tab.
    The information recorded by the MethodInvocationStatisticsAction is available through the application's
    WLDFInstrumentationRuntime MBean. This MBean has a MethodInvocationStatistics attribute that returns
    a nested set of maps containing of all the recorded statistics for the application. It also has a getMethodInvocationStatisticsData()
    operation that allows you to query for a subset of the data. The listing below is an example WLST script that
    queries the WLDFInstrumentationRuntimeMBean and displays all of the results. For example
    connect('weblogic','transfer11g');
    cd('serverRuntime:/WLDFRuntime/WLDFRuntime/WLDFInstrumentationRuntimes/ApplicationName');
    def formatTime(t):
         return "%.2f" % (t/1e6)
    print('OBTAINING STATISTICS');
    for classStats in cmo.getMethodInvocationStatistics().entrySet():
         print('OBTAINED THE CLASS STATISTICS');
         for methodStats in classStats.value.entrySet():
              print('OBTAINED THE METHOD STATISTICS');
              for signatureStats in methodStats.value.entrySet():
                   print('PRINTING SOME OUTPUT');
                   print "%s.%s(): %d %s %s %s %s" % (
                        classStats.key,
                        methodStats.key,
                        signatureStats.value['count'],
                        formatTime(signatureStats.value['min']),
                        formatTime(signatureStats.value['avg']),
                        formatTime(signatureStats.value['max']),
                        formatTime(signatureStats.value['std_deviation']),)If you run the above WLST script, you see something like the following output:
    model.logic.VideotheekWizardBean.confirm(): 50 1.52 8.46 66.94 11.09
    model.logic.VideotheekMDB.onMessage():      50 0.13 0.75  2.46  0.70All values are in milliseconds.
    I do not know what your findByFilter method is doing, but to best pin point the problem
    is divide it in individual actions (methods) it is performing which you can profile using the
    above.

  • Remote Debugging Weblogic 92 application using Eclipse 3.4

    Hi,
    1. I have the below debug options in the startweblogic script.
    set JAVA_OPTIONS=-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,address=javadebug,suspend=n
    2. I have configured remote debugging in Eclipse. Connection type - Standard Socket (attach), host =localhost, port 7001. 7001 is the listen port that I have specified in config.xml.
    3. When I run weblogic, I see the message listening for transport dt_socket address. Since address=javadebug, each time the dt_socket address is different.
    4. In Eclipse IDE, the debug prespective indicates the server has started. But when I click on the debug buttin in the Debug configuration dialog, I get the error below
    Failed to connect to remote VM. Connection timed out.
    org.eclipse.jdi.TimeoutException
    Note: Another thread in this forum mentions using the same port that is specified in the java_options but that did not work either. Any ideas what might be wrong?
    Thanks.
    RS.

    I think that value of "javadebug" is only used for shared memory transport, not socket transport. You have to choose a port that isn't being used by anything else. The value 8453 is a typical default value for this. Specify that instead of "javadebug", and use 8453 in your connection from Eclipse.

    We have done so - please contact me if you want the plugin.

  • Cannot Remote Debugging Weblogic 10

    I can do a remote debugging in a same machine, but not from another machine. It appears to be some security issue. Basically start the machine with JAVA_OPTIONS=-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=4000,server=y,suspend=n option.
    I know that the other machine can reach this machine. I can ping, I can connect to a simple test server on a different port. I did open the port 4000 on the firewall. So, it's not a network issue.
    I can also use an IDE to connect to the server at port 4000 to debug.
    From another machine, if I telnet this machine with port 4000, it gets disconnect after a couple seconds. If I do the same within the same machine, the telnet doesn't disconnect.
    So, the 2 machines see each other. It's just Weblogic senses it's another machine and disconnect.
    It points to security settings, but why the document here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/weblogic/remotedebugwls.html
    doesn't say anything about that?
    Please help. Regards.

    Hi,
    Take a look at this webpage:
    http://jsp.java.sun.com/javaone/javaone2000/pdfs/TS-1569.pdf
    Pages 17-18 and 24-26 are about setting up WebLogic for remote debugging. Classpath information is on page 24.

  • PLS help debug WebLogic

    Dear Java gurus,
    I am new to Java and JSP. What I've got is a web application running on WebLogic server consisting of a JSP login page and a JavaBean. How to setup the debugger to debug that code in the JavaBean? I have tried NetBeans, JBuilderX, Eclipse and build-in WebLogic tool and was unsuccessful. I could find any documentation on how to step-in my JSP or JavaBean either.
    Please help, help will be highly appreciated.
    Al.

    Thank you, I thought that there is a way to setup NetBeans or JBuilder. I didnt have any luck with MyEclipse, it failed to install.

  • How can I enable remote debug in weblogic to use with Rational RSA IDE?

    How can I enable the remote debugging technique so that I can work with my IDE.
    I use RSA by IBM as the IDE
    What should be the changes in the setdomainenv or startweblogic?
    I use 10.3
    Please help.. ur help is appreciable...

    Hi,
    I did not make any console adjustments for debugging on my WebLogic 10.3.2.0 - however I am running in development mode on an "adminServer" (an option during the install)
    In the console there is a debug setup page - that seems to have no effect for me (I can always debug) - so either it is a combination of development mode and/or the startWeblogic script from the Eclipse plugin.
    However, these debug settings are likely for debugging into the server - you only want to debug your own app code right?
    On the console page goto
    http://localhost:7001/console/console.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=ServerDebugPage
    servers | AdminServer | configuration-debug | expand weblogic
    I see...
    "Use this page to define debug settings for this server.
    Debug settings for this Server
    EnableDisableClear Showing 1 to 2 of 2 Previous Next
    Debug Scopes and Attributes State
    default Disabled
    weblogic Disabled
    EnableDisableClear Showing 1 to 2 of 2 Previous Next
    Try expanding the whole tree and selecting the root to enable everything.

    To debug weblogic startup issues you can pass the below jvm arguments:
    -Dweblogic.slc=true
    -Dweblogic.debug.DebugServerLifeCycle=true
    Debug options are available in weblogic based on the subsystem, such as security, jms, jdbc, deployment..etc
    You can refer to :

  • WebLogic 11g: Weblogic-Application-Version not taken into account

    Hello,
    I'm trying to set up Production Redeployment on my EAR, under WebLogic 10.3.6.
    However, I can't figure out how to make Weblogic-Application-Version work in MANIFEST.MF
    Here is my EAR structure:
    MyApplication
    --- APP-INF
    --- --- lib
    --- --- classes
    --- META-INF
    --- --- application.xml
    --- --- weblogic-application.xml
    --- --- MANIFEST.MF <- file I update
    --- WebApp1
    --- --- META-INF
    --- --- --- MANIFEST.MF
    --- --- WEB-INF
    --- --- --- classes
    --- --- --- lib
    --- --- --- web.xml
    --- --- --- weblogic.xml
    --- WebApp2
    --- --- same as WebApp1
    MANIFEST.MF content is the following:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Weblogic-Application-Version: VERSION_1
    The problem is that it's not taken into account when I deploy the application in the WebLogic console.
    When I use staged mode, the line Weblogic-Application-Version: VERSION_1 is removed from the staged MANIFEST.MF file.
    The only way to manage to version my application is to add the flag -appversion to weblogic.Deployer, but I don't want to use that on a Production environment (and it's not recommended in the documentation!).
    Any idea why Weblogic-Application-Version not taken into account? I tried to add debug mode to node weblogic/debug but with no success.
    Thanks by advance,
    Julien

    I tested it at my end and was able to redeploy it successfully with the application versions.
    Are you saying that by deploying through weblogic console,the archive version is not honoring/getting picked up .is that correct?
    if yes, what does your weblogic console shows for archive version,when you first try to deploy your application with the VERSION_1.
    I mean,when you are on the "Optional Settings" Page.Do you see the Archive Version as VERSION_1?
    Deployments >> Click on the Install >> select your application ( MyAPP)>> Install this deployment as an application >> Select deployment targets >> Optional Settngs
    Example from the Optional settings Page for My application
    What do you want to name this deployment?
    Name: MyAPP
    Archive Version:
    VERSION_1
    This can confirm that the application being deployed is versioned one and if it doesn't shows up,then you need to check why its not getting picked up.?
    Moreover,You can enable the "deploy" debug flag to see whats going wrong in your case during the deployment process
    Server > Debug > Weblogic > Deploy
    Do refer the below viewlet on the Production Redeployment
