Debugging with JBuilder...

Hi,
When I use the Step Into or Step Over functions of the debugger in JBuilder, it gets into all kinds of "strange" methods implemented by the Java Standard Library. How can I make it pass through my implementations only?
Thank You,
Maya.

Run -> View clases with tracing disabled, in that window you can tell JB which classes shoul be ignored when debugging.

  • Can't debug with jbuilder on a remote s1as

    Hi,
I'm trying to run or debug an application on a remote sun one application server from a jbuilder 8 ee. The thing is that the ide deploys the web application without any problem, but when it doesn't run it, and if you try to debug it, you get this error:
-- Cannot start Java debug process VM --
    com.sun.jdi.connect.VMStartException: VM initialization failed for: D:\JBuilder8\jdk1.4\bin\java.exe -classpath "D:\Sun\AppServer7\lib\appserv-admin.jar;D:\Sun\AppServer7\lib\appserv-cmp.jar;D:\Sun\AppServer7\lib\appserv-ext.jar;D:\Sun\AppServer7\lib\appserv-jstl.jar;D:\Sun\AppServer7\lib\appserv-rt.jar;D:\Sun\AppServer7\lib\appserv-tags.jar;D:\Sun\AppServer7\lib\jhall.jar;D:\Sun\AppServer7\lib\sun-appserv-ant.jar;d:\JBuilder8\lib\ext\appsrvSUNJB8.jar" -DFILETODEPLOY="D:/pruebas/jbuilder8/pruebasS1AS7/pruebasS1AS.war" com.sun.appserv.jbuilder.server.Main Debug
In the manual says that this could be caused by the admin server not running, but it is not the case, because it is running, and has just been used to deploy the application.
If i do the same operation on tomcat, there are no problems.
Thanks for the help and regards,
    Juan

In case you need to debug an application on a remote Sun ONE Server Instance. Go to Admin Tool of Sun ONE Application Server 7 and Start Default Server Instance in the Debug Mode. You need to look for port at which Sun ONE debugger has started. For this find the following Entry in server.xml of Default Server instance.
server.xml is located in config folder in the default server instance folder in that particular domain under the domains directory in <INSTALL_DIR> of Sun ONE Application 7 e.g. if default server instance is server1 in domain1 then server.xml will be located in <INSTALL_DIR>/domains/domain1/server1/config
    <java-config java-home="C:/Appservers/Sun/AppServer7/jdk" server-classpath="C:/Appservers/Sun/AppServer7/lib/appserv-rt.jar; " env-classpath-ignored="true" debug-enabled="true" javac-options="-g" rmic-options="-iiop -poa -alwaysgenerate -keepgenerated -g" debug-options="-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=1186 -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE">
Note the value of address in the debug-options attribute value
specification. In this example the address is 1186.
Now in JBuilder Go To Run->
Configurations and edit Run Time Configuration for your JSP. Go To Debug Tab and Enable Remote Debugging and check Attach Option. In the Host name text field enter the hostname of the Default Server Instance. In the transport select dt_socket from the Type List and in the Address field enter the value of address from the debug-options attribute specified in the server.xml file.
Now try to Debug the application.
For more information on Remote Debugging, check out section 5.8.2 Remote Debugging in User Documentation of the Plugin.

  • Does WLS support Debugging Servlets with JBuilder 3 ?

I have read all the news groups and it appears that WLS 4.5.1 does not
support debugging Servlets with Jbuilder 3.0.
I am using the trial version, does this matter ?
Or should I just buy another web server ?

I think below documents will be helpful to you.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/apirefs.1111/e13952/taskhelp/webservices/webservicesecurity/CreateDefaultWSSConfig.html
This document tell you that you can attach a weblogic webservice configuration using weblogic admin console.
After creating this configuration you need to updated this configuration as per the steps given under :

  • Debugging Servlet with JBuilder 6

Does anyone know how to debug a servlet with JBuilder version 6?
I have created the servlet without the wizard.
    Thanks.
    -Amar

You can use ServletExecDebugger from NewAtlanta.
    You can download ServletExecDebugger at
    http://www.newatlanta.com/products/servletexec/download.jsp
    1. Extract ServletExecDebugger files to your local folder
    2. Import ServletExecDebugger.jar file into you JBuilder
    workspace
    3. There will be ServletExecDebuggerMain.java file
    Import that also.
    4. Set ClassPath, Project Path , etc and off you go.
    ServletExecDebugger comes with good documentation
    for a free debugger.
I have been using it for sometime now (in both JBuilder and Visual Age) and find it relatively simple to setup and good for debugging servlets.
You cannot debug JSPs that much easier though !
    Hope this helps..

    After following borlands instruction at

integrate weblogic 6.0 with jbuilder 4, I could build my project for
weblogic 6.0 but couldn't start or debug weblogic inside jbuilder. Thus
started my quest. After a couple of days I got it to work and here is whatI
    did.
    1) set the "working directory" of my project to be d:/bea/wlserver6.0
    2) made a new run configuration and called it weblogic
    3) set it as an application
    4) made the main class to be weblogic.Server (weblogic.jar has to be in a
    required library)
    5) set the VM parameters to:
    -classic -ms64m -mx64m -Dweblogic.system.home=d:/bea/wlserver6.0 -Dbea.home=
    >
    d:/bea -Djava.security.policy=d:/bea/wlserver6.0/lib/weblogic.policy -Dweblo
    gic.Domain=mydomain -Dweblogic.Name=myserver
Thats it. By running "weblogic", it starts within jbuilder. It also letsme
debug that way (although it still takes an eternity)
    Anyway, hope this helps.

I upgraded to latest version of mountain lion yesterday, this morning my power Mac was running extremely slowly (while typing, had to wait a second or two for words to appear), I shut down to see if problem would clear up.  When starting up, screen went black with programming jargon, something about debugging with the word panic in parentheses.  Screen then goes back to gray, says Mac encountered a problem and has to restart once I push a key.  Apple logo comes on gray screen, icon keeps circling and nothing happens.  This has happened three times in a row after shutting down and trying to restart.  Any thoughts?

When verifying disk, said could not repair disk, back up as many files as possible then re format disk.  Computer now doing Internet recovery. Should I. Do the following in this order

  • Gung Ho security team vs Debug with replace in development

Hi fellow developers. I'm trying to talk our security team off the ledge and I want to conduct an informal poll regarding the responsible use of debug with replace in a DEVELOPMENT environment.  For the newer developers.. replace is much more powerful in debugging because you can change the values of variables and some system fields like sy-subrc which makes it very powerful.
Our development environment is setup as follows:
Client 300, ABAP Development \config.  We promote to QA, and Prod from here but can't unit test because no data allowed.  Debug with NO replace allowed here.
Client 320 Unit testing, debug with replace is allowed.
both of these clients are on the same instance, same sid so they share client independent information.
Our security team claims that it's a security risk to allow debug with replace in our Client 300 because someone could change a security profile or something like that.  Here's my question...
Are you authorized to debug with replace in your development environment and if not, what's the reason you were given?  I'm looking for arguments one way or the other to use as precedent for a meeting.
    Your prompt response is appreciated.
    Dan

    Hi
I think the option can be dangerous in QA or PROD system because you can skip some control and change the data normally can't be changed.
A classicl example is trx SE16: by debug you can change directly the data of the most of tables.
But I don't believe can be a risk in development system, in this enviroment the developer should have no limit, otherwise to work and test can belong very hard.

  • Deployment and debugging from JBuilder

    Hi,

I've heard there is a deployment tool document ? Where is it ?
    thanks for your help

    Hi--
None of our team has experience running JATO apps in JBuilder. The main
thing to check when running in an IDE is that the web.xml is properly
registered. Because you've received a JATO error, I assume it is in your
case. Therefore, it must be something else.
The error you sent means that the lookup for the LoginViewBean class failed.
This is probably a silly question, but are all of your classes compiled and
under the /WEB-INF/classes directory? Any other reason your application
    classes might not be found?

  • Deploying war files with JBuilder 5 to Tomcat 4

    Hi,
I'm developing a webapp in JBuilder 5. When I copy my war file to tomcat 3.2 webapps directory and start tomcat it works just fine, but when I copy my war file to the webapps directory in tomcat 4 I have the following error when I start tomcat 4:
    ERROR reading java.io.ByteArrayInputStream@33f8f6
    At Line 15 /web-app/servlet/
All the examples in Tomcat 4 works just fine, and if I create a war file from the command prompt it also works, but the war file generated with JBuilder 5 doesn't work.
    does this sound familiar?
    please help

    Hi Lilja,
ran into this myself, and had to do a full web search to find the answer.
JBuilder5 will let you change the Tomcat version a certain project uses, but it won't necessarily like it.
Creating a new project with Tomcat 4 as the default server, and then putting your existing files into it seems to work.
Dodgy, I know, but blame Borland. ;-)

  • How to import a *.jar file with Jbuilder ?

    Hi,
I just begin to use Jbuilder and when I use a sample with this line in the program:
    import com.borland.dbswing.*;
    The debugger find an error. In fact it cannot find com.borland....*;
Do you know what to import how to find it and where to do it with Jbuilder
    Thanks, I am really lost

JBuilder has this rather patronising notion of "libraries" - taking classpaths to a whole new level of idiocy!
In "project properties" there should be a tab called "required libraries". I've no idea which library the package you want is in - have a look at the libraries that JBuilder comes with - it might be obvious.

  • Web Services with JBuilder

I've created a web service with jbuilder.I've deployed it in weblogic server 7. Jbuilder also creates a client jar file necessary where I want to call my web service. Imagine I want to call my webservice from a .NET platform. How I have to do it? I don't understand how I can create a generic web service that I can call from a J2EE platform or .NET platform...
Any explanation to clarify my ideas?
    Thanks!

All you need to do to access the web service from a .NET client is to point to the WSDL file generated by JBuilder. Visual Studio .NET will generate all the necessary classes from the WSDL file. You will be able to use these generated client classes to access your Java Web Service

Solved it. I ran into this problem too, and had to look all over the place to find the solution.
In the end it's a matter of binning your current JBuilder project and starting a new one with the same files. For some reason JBuilder5 hates switching Tomcat installations within projects. From there it seems to ignore changes to your web.xml, and insists on yu_hung's error.
Switch it all into a new project with Tomcat 4 as its default server, and it becomes happy again.
    Hope that helps!
