[Debutant LV 8.5]Realisation d'un chrono ?

Bonjour,

  • Ptp Synchronization on Windows

I am currently using software ptp synchronization to synchronize the time on several RT systems (PXI, cRIO, and RMC) I now need to sync a windows machine on the subnet. Is there a windows program that does ptp synchronization to an RT grandmaster?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Marcis-Andreis,
the PTP sotfware options for Windows machines are very limited.
As you can see here - http://www.endruntechnologies.com/ptp-slave.htm
Windows XP, 2003, VISTA, Windows 7 (PTPv2 only)
Choices for PTP Slave software on Windows machines are very limited. Windows is not a real-time operating system and synchronization is dependent on the CPU and the operating system version. PTP Slave software is available from Greyware and is called Domain Time II. Your PTP Slave can be synchronized to within one millisecond of the Grandmaster (network topology dependent) using this software.
Plus you can check the list on wiki page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PTP_implementations#Software
The biggest problem is that Widows OS itself is non-deterministic, maybe you should consider using Linux where the options are better.
For Linux you can use popular PTPd package for example, plus you can go for PREEMPT RT, that make you Linux more deterministic.
But everything depends on your application
Please let me know if I can be helpful here.
Thanks and wish you good luck with your project.
    Best regards,
    David

  • How do I use Garageband for iPad with a real amp?

I play with a guy down the street who has a couple of amps set up. The one I use is kind of limited in it's tonal qualities. In my twenties and thirties I would have no problem hauling my own amp down there to get my tones dialed in, but I'm forty freakin' seven and too old for that!  When I have tried to plug the iPad into my amp at home, I get terrible feedback.  I used to have a Rockman (remember those?) and I could take it with me and plug into any guitar amp set to clean and be good to go, how do I do that with my iPad and Garageband?
I'm using a no name "y" cord with the 1/8" three ringed input into the ipad and a 1/8 stereo and 1/4 inch outputs-all sounds great on headphones, and with computer speakers, but need to plug into a real guitar amp.
I am using a 50 watt Yamaha to test and am having no luck at all.  I know it has to do with impedance, but I am not very versed in how to get around it.
    Thanks in advance!

Okay, after fiddling around some more, I’m able to get–some-settings to work.    1) set the real amp to clean settings (duh).  Keep the volume on the low side (double duh). 2) stick to the smaller amps from the “clean and “processed” groups ofpresets.
The only way (so far) I’ve found to get some crunch is by turning the gain up on the GB amp you’re using, but only to a point, then I got feedback again.
Also, my “y” cord does have a name, it’s a GriffinTechnologies GuitarConnect Cable. I haven’t tried any of the other devices, so I can’t say if the feedbackwould be less irksome on other devices, but I kind of doubt it.

  • How to cause them to associate my Case Number 185689167 with the real phone number I need to be called at:

I purchased a one year subscription to Acrobat Pro, and after installation on my MacBook, in the LaunchPad (aside from the normal Adobe Acrobat Pro, Acrobat Distiller, and Forms Central for Acrobat) a folder containing two icons.  The first was (I forgot the name) and the second entitled AAMLauncherUtil.  Shortly after installation I ran the AAMLauncher Util, and it downloaded and "updated" Acrobat Pro and installed Creative Cloud.  I was told by some person in Tech Support that I didn't need these two additional icons in LaunchPad, and I could just drag them to the trash.
The folder would not go in the Trash, so I dragged them out of the folder and then the one whose name I don't remember was able to go to the Trash, but not the AAMLauncherUtil icon.
I called Tech Support again, and got a technician whose name I will withhold, but although he tried to solve the problem, basically he was clueless and I could hear him asking other people in the background what to do and they were giving him suggestions, mucking around my library and deleting anything that sounded like it was associated with AAMLaucher, and in the end all he succeeded in doing was making my Creative Cloud not work anymore and produce messages that it was corrupted and had to be removed and reinstalled.  Finally he gave up and said that he was referring my Case 185689167 to the next level higher of tech support, who would call me within 24 hours.  Of course they never did that so I called Apple Support and a representative there went way beyond what he needed to do and we were able to uninstall and reinstall Creative Cloud and make it work again, although the AAMLaucherUtil icon remains there.  Currently, it doesn't update anything like it did the first time I ran it, or act like it is trying to update anything, but it does open Creative Cloud if you have closed it.
Several days later (not the promised 24 hours) I got an email from my Voicemail Service with a  transcribed message from Adobe Tech Support saying that they had tried to call me... at the number listed in my subscription payment details... NOT at the number I had told them to call me at, and since I am 7000 miles away from my billing number I didn't get the call.  The message requested me to call them back.  I did so, and the message on the VRU said I would have to wait approximately 30 minutes. Two and one half hours later (not 30 minutes) someone answered who was not Second Level Tech Support, and reiterated that it was not possible to transfer me to them, and he would note that I had called back and they would call me within 24 hours.... yeah right.  By then after waiting all that time to speak to someone I was so mad that I forgot to mention the correct number to call me at... although I had mentioned it previously.  Several days later (not 24 hours) they called the wrong number again, and when I didn't answer it then sent me an email that they were considering the case solved and closing it, and I could reopen it within 14 days.
I then called back and this time waiting 3 hours on hold, and the person who I spoke with (whose name I withhold for now) said he would reopen the case and they would call me within 24 hours... again he couldn't transfer me to them.  Again I forgot to reiterate the correct phone number that I had told them the first time since I was so mad about waiting 3 hours on hold.
The next day, I realized that I had not reiterated the correct phone number, and I went into my account settings and changed the phone number in both places it exists, and then tried calling back to make sure they would call the correct phone number.  This time I waited on hold for 4 hours, and finally gave up without ever being able to speak to a person.
The next day... still no call even to the wrong number since my Voice Mail would have informed me it there was a call.... I called Sales since that seemed to be the only way to talk to a real person, and screamed at them about this issue and was informed they couldn't do anything about Tech Support, or about associating my phone number with my case number, but he would put me in the queue for tech support since nobody was in the queue so they should call me back right away.
I did get a call in a few minutes, which said "If Valued Customer is available, press 1" so I pressed 1 and it went to music.  I then waited for 15 minutes of music with no answer, after which I got an email from my Voicemail Service transcribing the message saying:
"Reschedule this call back for a later time press three to cancel this call back press nine. Your response was not recognized. Please try again. When valued customer is on the line press one to speak to a support specialist. If you need time to get valued customer on the line press two. To reschedule this call back for a later time press three to cancel this call back press nine. Your response was not recognized. Please try again. When valued customer is on the line press one to speak to a support specialist. If you need time to get valued customer on the line press two. To reschedule this call back for a later time press three to cancel this call back press nine."
... more. Please listen to your voicemail for the remainder of this message.
They can't recognize me pressing 1?????  So who know... I was listening to music but did that mean I was really ever going to reach a real person, or was the Voicemail message correct and I would be listening to music forever?
So this morning I tried calling again only to receive message the the Tech Support Telephone Lines were down for scheduled maintenance until August 10th... I tried chatting... that is offline also.
Is there a way to associate my actual phone number with my case number... maybe somebody from Adobe actually reads these diatribes?  I need to be called at or after 17:00 Pacific time.... I was told the hours are on Pacific Time.... although  one representative who I was trying to coordinate the timing of the call with was very confused about the time zones. He was trying to tell me that the current time was 09:00 Pacific Time, which I knew to be wrong, and he finally admitted, after I challenged him to look on www.timeanddate.com, that it was  09:00 in Bangalore, and Pacific time was 20:00.

    Thanks for your answer TSN!
I did try Chat yesterday and it didn't work.... said unavailable.  I'll will try it again.
I do understand that this is a Community Forum, but it appears that some Adobe staff persons do read and respond to some messages, so since all other avenues of contact seem to not work, I thought I would try this just in case somebody from Adobe happened to read it and could do something.
A secondary reason I posted the whole explanation is that I thought maybe somebody else had experienced this issue as well and might comment on it.
As for it being a problem or not, maybe it is not.  Adobe did work when I installed it.  When I invoked that icon "AAMLauncherUtil" the first time, it updated Acrobat Pro and Installed Creative Cloud (which the original trial subscription had not installed).
I then noticed that these two icons didn't seem to do anything useful.  The first time I called and was able to connect to support, the rather poor attitude person who answered just said to delete both icons in the folder... that they weren't needed.  When I found that one of them could be deleted and not the other one "AAMLauncherUtil" could not be deleted, and since the tech support person had suggested deleting them both, I called back.
The next rather clueless person in tech support spent a lot of time trying to help get rid of it, but couldn't.  When he was mucking around in the "Library" he deleted everything named "AAMLauncherUtil" from the Library (but left some stuff I would have imagined could have been deleted like references to my previous trial subscription.
After he got done, Creative Cloud no longer worked and he couldn't figure out how to fix it... we were getting messages the Creative Cloud was corrupted and needed to be uninstalled.  He said he was going to refer the problem to a  higher level tech support, and that he couldn't transfer me there... they would have to call me which would be in 24 hours.
The next day (since the higher level tech support failed to call back) I called Apple Support, and they helped me find a Creative Cloud Uninstaller and we ran that and re-downloaded and installed Creative Cloud again.
I would expect from the name "AAMLauncherUtil" that this icon would Launch Adobe Application Manager and perhaps try to update my product(s) like it did the first time, OR report that my software is up to date... as most other software update attempts would do.  However what it really does now when I invoke the "AAMLauncherUtil" icon is just to open Creative Cloud just as if I had clicked on the icon in the top menu bar of my Apple Menu Bar.  The Apple person suggested that MAYBE it is supposed to do that if you have shut down Creative Cloud for some reason, and want to start it up again without restarting the computer.  Maybe that is so, but if it is, then I would have expected that they would have renamed the icon to Creative Cloud or something more descriptive of what it is supposed to do.
As is is now, I am not sure if it is a leftover remnant of my original updated installation that should have gone away when I updated and it installed Creative Cloud, or if everyone else running Adobe Acrobat Pro XI has this icon in their Launchpad as well and it is supposed to be there for some unknown reason to perform some unknown function.
After all that happened, I did update Creative Cloud, but that was within Creative Cloud itself when it reported having an update available, and not using the "AAMLauncherUtil" icon at all, so that would appear to negate it's possible update functionality wouldn't it?
Assuming you are using a Mac, do you have such an icon in LaunchPad?
    Thanks for your help!

  • How are Game Center "Friend Recommendations" people I know in real life? (Meetup/Facebook data?)

This seems like a major privacy concern, but mainly I'm just very curious how this can possibly happen:
The Game Center app suggests primarily people I have met in real life... but have had NO online interaction with!
I life in a high-population US city, yet at least 2/3 of my Friend Recommendations (maybe more if they had photos or knew these peoples' last names) are people I have actually MET in person and know vaguely... but who I do now know well and who are NOT friends/contacts in any online service.
I have never emailed them (with two exceptions); we don't even know each others' email addresses, and even if we did, my Apple ID email is not one I use for actual emailing purposes. Nor do we know each others' phone numbers, nor gaming nicknames; often not even last names. I didn't even know that they owned iOS devices or played games at all!
We have certainly never played games with one another before; in fact, I have never used Game Center's friend feature and I don't have any GC friends. I only play random matches, and almost always on non-GC game services, for that matter.
None of them has ever made a friend request to me. I've only ever gotten one GC request, long ago, and I denied it; it was not someone I knew.
Some of them list "zero games in common" so it's not even that (and anyway, millions of people have games in common with me).
Only one of them is in my Contacts (iOS/Mac address book), and knowing how serious they are about privacy, I doubt the email address I have is their AppleID. I know your address book can (for now) be accessed without permission, but these people just aren't listed.
But I DO run into these recommendations in person every so often!
These cannot be randomly selected by geography because a) they're not super close to me in miles, and b) there are millions of iOS users near me. No way that most of the suggestions would be people I've met, if this were chance alone. SOME source of data is being used by GC, and I'm baffled as to what it could be.
The closest three theories I can come up with are all pretty implausible:
    1. Indirect Facebook connection. These people are NOT my Facebook friends (with a couple exceptions; I never actually use Facebook but I do have an account, and if someone requests, I generally accept). I double-checked that. But they MAY be "friends of friends" possibly. But how would Apple obtain my FB friend list? And if they did have it, wouldn't they just suggest my actual FB friends, not friends-of-friends? My Facebook login email address is an alumni address that I have never used for any other purpuse; it is not my Apple ID. And I have diligently set nearly every option to "hidden" on Facebook: even friends see a mostly blank profile!
    2. Meetup.com. This is a 100% correlation! I'm in several local groups that use Meetup.com to schedule meetings, and ALL of these Game Center recommendations are memebers of Meetup groups that I too am a member of. That's how I've met most of them. But Meetup has no "friends" feature, and most of these people have had no online connection with me (Meetup messages etc.) through Meetup. We've just attended the same events--which do have online RSVP lists--or else we are merely listed as members of the same group(s). (But we're talking large groups, so I haven't actually met most of the members, and I have met most of these GC recommendations.) But how would Apple obtain my Meetup info? Again my Meetup account's email address is not my Apple ID, and I have never used that email address with any Apple service (although it is on my Contacts card).
    3. Maybe Apple harvested my address book/contacts list (which does NOT contain these people), and also harvested the contacts lists of these people, AND also harvested the contacts lists of people we know in common who happen to have both of us listed. Then they put it all together. (That's a stretch: the people I know the best on Meetup--whose info I do have in Contacts--are Android users!) But again, why not recommend my actual contacts, instead of contacts-of-contacts? My actual contacts--which contain numerous iOS users and games--are notably absent from the recommendations (with one exception).
Obivously Apple cannot, and does not, literally know who I have met. (No foil hat for me!) But they DO seem to have some data source that correlates closely with people I have met (and Meetup activity especially). I'm dying to know how that's possible.
This is a privacy concern, for at least three reasons I can think of:
    1. GC lists these people's real names AND GC nicknames together--BEFORE I have accepted them as friends! And vice versa, I'm sure my nickname is being shown with my real name to total strangers. That means strangers, employers, stalkers, whoever, can now tie a person to their nickname (often the same one they use all over the Interner, not just GC). But we're not talking random suggestions: this is being show to people I DO know. Maybe I don't want them Googling my online nicknames! Maybe I complain about my work with that nickname Maybe I want my online friends and real-life acquaintainces kept separate. I definitely want EVERYTHING kept separate from these people I barely know but run into from time to time! One of these people is, in fact, on the sex offenders registry, and has stalked a friend of mine both online and offline. Maybe he'll learn my GC nickname--the same way it has shown me his--and can now Google that!
    2. If I have a lot of "games in common" listed, then they can peg me as a "gamer," which is sometimes a negative. Maybe I want my boss (or whoever) to think I'm more serious, even if he games too, and now he knows I have 30 games and wonders why I'm not staying late to work Maybe I just don't want to be roped into being "friends" online with my boss, or having to let him win games! Again, although this is a small issue at first glance, it's less small when things are being shared with people you really DO know in real life. What if my hypothetical stalker sees I have games in common? Sure, I can deny their friend request and cancel their 500 game attempts, but I'd rather be 100% hidden from them in the first place. I have no prior online contact, I want it to stay that way, and I've never given Apple permission, that I know of, to share my real name with people I never friended. (And even if I did, it should be with random strangers--not actual acquaintances.)
    3. The big mystery--how is Apple getting data that correlates with who I've met in the first place? I'm guessing that some people see the same pattern I do, and some don't; which might lead to an answer, but so far I'm stumped. (If this does tie to Meetup some bizarre way, that would be unnerving because Meetup ties me to real places and specific times.)
Theories are welcome! And a basic question: what data sources DOES Game Center have available to use in making friend suggestions? I would have guessed maybe Location Services (nearby people) and people who have played a game with me (or made a friend request) in the past. But those sources are not what I'm seeing.
(Even weirder is that nobody else seems to have posted about this happening; it may not happen to everyone, but surely some people have had this same question? I feel like I'm in a Kafka novel...)

That's a good thought that could explain some cases, but not mine: these people definitely don't know my email address, and I'm not in their Address Book. (Some of these are people I might meet on a hike, say, and nod to in passing on other hikes once a or twice a year, and that's the extent of the "relationship"--no contact info ever exchanged. We don't even know what cities each other are from.)
we don't even know each others' email addresses, and even if we did, my Apple ID email is not one I use for actual emailing purposes. Nor do we know each others' phone numbers, nor gaming nicknames; often not even last names.
I should correct my first post: I said I "do now know well"... that should be "do NOT know well".

  • FIREFOX 26 changed the 'post crash' page with the list of windows and pages. It was a real HTML page with links for each page. Now it isn't (and blows)

    * You changed the page that comes up after a crash - the one which shows the windows and pages that were up before the
    crash.
This used to be a real HTML page and it isn't any more. THis choice was pure isiocy consider how peopel used that page every day (try taking to your users for a change).
The pages listed on that 'post crash page' used to be actual LINKS (you could right click them &
manually open them in another tab - and most peope DID that every day). You could also (and I did this a lot) drag a second
copy of the page, into a new tab (to keep track of all the pages I had not wanted to open)
Now the pages are no longer links. You cannot right-click them.
The thing in the probser is no longer a page that I can drag into a new tab.
Roll the version back and throw this one in the bin...and have a good long talk with your developers about the definition of
    'STUPIDITIY'
Then I try to type anything in the addres bar it is suppose to repoond with the history of old things I have types in the past, or
search for what I type (and in some cases I think it tyes to convert it intoa URL). However it no longer does any of these
things. When I type in the ADDRESS BAR ONLY, I do not get all of my letters to appear. I have to type into a notepad or
into the search and to copy and paste to go to a URL. Nothing that is typed into the address bad responds normally at all
anymore, and I am fairly certain there are no new addons on this machine at all. It does not matter which things I disable. It
still does this. W of course points the finger back at a change to FIREFOX. I wich I could just sitct with one stable release
forever but the MOZILLA folk thing it is best to force peopel awy from a working broswer release to a horrible one (due to it
    being out of date).
FIREFOX 26.0 has 'issues' (ie new *features*/bugs)
    1) History is no longer accurate. My Proof? This machine is the primary one for the entire family (the only PC working). It is
logged in with same user every time and never has its history cleared. It now January 7 so I ought to have a list of all of last
    months browing available to me.
However, according to FIREFOX history, in all of December 2013, the entire family only went to 51 primary URL's. None of
the official TV sites I use to get episodes are listed. None of the official movie sites I use are listed. The primary URL for
ebay is not listed. Only 1 out of our 4 weather sites that I use (at least once a week) are listed. Only 1 of our 3 FINANCE
sites is listed. There ought to be several; hundred root URLs listed.
Please fix history as this change seriously "blows greasy chunks"
PROBLEM (a stupid change in the new FIREFOX version)
FOr a long time, after a crash you got a useful page (a real HTML page) which gave you a list of all of your last sessions
'winwos and tabs' that were open when the browser crashed. there were certain ways of using this page that are no longer
    able to be done.
The old method was wonderful as it had this behavior :
*** The old method for displaying your 'Recovered Tabs' allowed you to :
    a) right click an individual item and open it in a tab without getting rid of that lovely window of your previous session of
    'recovered windows and tabs '.
    2) drag the URL for the entire window of 'recovered windows and tabs ' to a new tab (to make a second copy) so that you
could select just a few of them to open as a group, and stil have the old list handy.
You can no longer do either of these things. The 'recovered windows and tabs ' page no longer has links in it and can no longer be dragged, so you cant select a few of them to use, and keep the rest around for later. NOW - once you choose which pages to open the window is gone forever (can can't get a second copy).
People used to make a copy of the page for later use (with a drag)
we also used to open pages with a right click (which no longer functions
This new method seriously blows big greasy chunks. A parge loss in function has occurred.
Put things back as they were. 26 is full of terrible changes that NOBODY likes. It also has a lot of bugs (history is not reliable at all)

    (1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.
    (2) There are many ways for history to get cleared, both internal to Firefox and external. Could you double-check your Privacy settings?
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Remember History: Firefox shouldn't be clearing history, but an add-on or external software could do it
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Use custom settings for history: inspect the "Clear history when Firefox closes" setting to make Firefox isn't set to clear history. Also check your add-ons and consider external software.
Firefox normally accumulates months of history. However, some of Firefox's database sizes are based on disk space available. If your hard drive is very full, Firefox might reduce the amount of history stored.

  • Can't create a new real track...

Ok I've encountered another problem, and this one prohibits me from doing basically anything. The last problem in the post I made with the title "Mysterious crackling/buzzing" seems to have worked itself out (yes!!!). First I'll tell you my setup. I have a guitar (with active electronics if that helps at all which i doubt...) plugged into a Line 6 POD XT Live which connects to my compter via USB and I play through GB on tracks with no effects in Channel 2 (Mono) with the monitor usually on. Well, that is, until now. The only way I can hear my guitar or have any signal through GB is if I'm in a previously saved project which already has tracks on it that are available for recording/playing. I can record and play fine through these tracks, but when I try and create a new track (Real) absolutely nothing happens. I go to track/new track/real/create but bsaically all that happens is...well...nothing. If I have selected a track (which works fine if I created it before the problem started) and I try and create a new one, it just does nothing and hs no effect on the elready existing track I'm on. More annoyingly, if I try to make a track on a brand new project, I can only make a software track, but the exact same thign happens when I try to create a Real track. Nothing. Plus, when I'm in a previously created project, and I use a track that I made before the problem both of the boxes that are supposed to show if you want a guitar/vocal/bass all of that stuff on the left, and the box on the right have nothing in them. Completely blank. I belive this may be a similar problem to the one I had in my previous post titled "How do I create new real instrument track?" Here's the link:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=542431&tstart=0
In this problem I was using GarageBand 2 and I was playing through an M-Audio FastTrack USB, but the only difference I believe in the two problems was that I could create a new real track, but there were the words "no track selected" in gray (unable to be clicked) in the left box, whereas its impossible to create a track in the first place with the problem i have now. Also, no one could help me on the last problem, and I had to delete GarageBand (but I had to buy iLife '05 again since we lost the install DVD) after I called the support team from Apple, and talked to one of the head guys who was completely baffled. So that's basically all i can describe with my limited knowledge of technology, oh and I deleted the .plist and.cs files and repaired permissions (again) if that helps.

'tis all good right now, just checked on another post dealing with the smae problem, unfortunatley i was forced to downgrade to GB 2.0 but hey, it's only until i can find the iLife '06 DVD.

  • How to reset numbers in real time display in Cisco Supervisor Desktop?

    Hi all,
I wonder about numbers in real time display in Cisco Supervisor Desktop. There are many statistic number for example : Call Handled, Max Talking, Avg Talking, Max Ready, Total Ready, Call abandoned, etc. Is there any way to reset those numbers back to zero? Please let me know.
    Thank you.

    Joe,
I haven't tried that, but I'm very skeptical. The CAD Agent gets stats from two places - CTIOS and RASS. RASS keeps the call log information in a SQL Desktop Engine database.
Stats derived from CTIOS reset at midnight. Obviously, restarting the RASS service has no effect on those. Call log information is being kept in a database so it seems to me that a restart of RASS should also have no effect.
I guess I will have to try for myself.
    Regards,
    Geoff

    Source: NetApp, 2015
While the benefits are attractive for many workloads, customer input suggests that even more can be achieved by moving beyond cloud silos and better managing data across cloud and on-premises infrastructure, with the ability to move data between clouds as needs and prices change. Hybrid cloud models are emerging where data can flow fluidly to the right location at the right time to optimize business outcomes while providing enhanced control and stewardship.
These models fall into two general categories based on data location. In the first, data moves as needed between on-premises data centers and the cloud. In the second, data is located strategically near, but not in, the cloud.
Let's look at what some customers are doing with hybrid cloud in the real world, their goals, and the outcomes.
    Data in the Cloud
At NetApp, we see a variety of hybrid cloud deployments sharing data between on-premises data centers and the cloud, providing greater control and flexibility. These deployments utilize both cloud service providers (CSPs) and hyperscale public clouds such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Use Case 1: Partners with Verizon for Software as a Service Colocation and integrated Disaster Recovery in the Cloud
For financial services company BlackLine, availability, security, and compliance with financial standards is paramount. But with the company growing at 50% per year, and periodic throughput and capacity bursts of up to 20 times baseline, the company knew it couldn't sustain its business model with on-premises IT alone.
Stringent requirements often lead to innovation. BlackLine deployed its private cloud infrastructure at a Verizon colocation facility. The Verizon location gives them a data center that is purpose-built for security and compliance. It enables the company to retain full control over sensitive data while delivering the network speed and reliability it needs. The colocation facility gives Blackline access to Verizon cloud services with maximum bandwidth and minimum latency. The company currently uses Verizon Cloud for disaster recovery and backup. Verizon cloud services are built on NetApp® technology, so they work seamlessly with BlackLine's existing NetApp storage.
To learn more about BlackLine's hybrid cloud deployment, read the executive summary and technical case study, or watch this customer video.
Use Case 2: Private, Nonprofit University Eliminates Tape with Cloud Integrated Storage
A private university was just beginning its cloud initiative and wanted to eliminate tape—and offsite tape storage. The university had been using Data Domain as a backup target in its environment, but capacity and expense had become a significant issue, and it didn't provide a backup-to-cloud option.
The director of Backup turned to a NetApp SteelStore cloud-integrated storage appliance to address the university's needs. A proof of concept showed that SteelStore™ was perfect. The on-site appliance has built-in disk capacity to store the most recent backups so that the majority of restores still happen locally. Data is also replicated to AWS, providing cheap and deep storage for long-term retention. SteelStore features deduplication, compression, and encryption, so it efficiently uses both storage capacity (both in the appliance and in the cloud) and network bandwidth. Encryption keys are managed on-premises, ensuring that data in the cloud is secure.
The university is already adding a second SteelStore appliance to support another location, and—recognizing which way the wind is blowing—the director of Backup has become the director of Backup and Cloud.
Use Case 3: Consumer Finance Company Chooses Cloud ONTAP to Move Data Back On-Premises
A leading provider of online payment services needed a way to move data generated by customer applications running in AWS to its on-premises data warehouse. NetApp Cloud ONTAP® running in AWS proved to be the least expensive way to accomplish this.
Cloud ONTAP provides the full suite of NetApp enterprise data management tools for use with Amazon Elastic Block Storage, including storage efficiency, replication, and integrated data protection. Cloud ONTAP makes it simple to efficiently replicate the data from AWS to NetApp FAS storage in the company's own data centers. The company can now use existing extract, transform and load (ETL) tools for its data warehouse and run analytics on data generated in AWS.
Regular replication not only facilitates analytics, it also ensures that a copy of important data is stored on-premises, protecting data from possible cloud outages. Read the success story to learn more.
    Data Near the Cloud
For many organizations, deploying data near the hyperscale public cloud is a great choice because they can retain physical control of their data while taking advantage of elastic cloud compute resources on an as-needed basis. This hybrid cloud architecture can deliver better IOPS performance than native public cloud storage services, enterprise-class data management, and flexible access to multiple public cloud providers without moving data. Read the recent white paper from the Enterprise Strategy Group, “NetApp Multi-cloud Private Storage: Take Charge of Your Cloud Data,” to learn more about this approach.
Use Case 1: Municipality Opts for Hybrid Cloud with NetApp Private Storage for AWS
The IT budgets of many local governments are stretched tight, making it difficult to keep up with the growing expectations of citizens. One small municipality found itself in this exact situation, with aging infrastructure and a data center that not only was nearing capacity, but was also located in a flood plain.
Rather than continue to invest in its own data center infrastructure, the municipality chose a hybrid cloud using NetApp Private Storage (NPS) for AWS. Because NPS stores personal, identifiable information and data that's subject to strict privacy laws, the municipality needed to retain control of its data. NPS does just that, while opening the door to better citizen services, improving availability and data protection, and saving $250,000 in taxpayer dollars. Read the success story to find out more.
Use Case 2: IT Consulting Firm Expands Business Model with NetApp Private Storage for Azure
A Japanese IT consulting firm specializing in SAP recognized the hybrid cloud as a way to expand its service offerings and grow revenue. By choosing NetApp Private Storage for Microsoft Azure, the firm can now offer a cloud service with greater flexibility and control over data versus services that store data in the cloud.
The new service is being rolled out first to support the development work of the firm's internal systems integration engineering teams, and will later provide SAP development and testing, and disaster recovery services for mid-market customers in financial services, retail, and pharmaceutical industries.
Use Case 3: Financial Services Leader Partners with NetApp for Major Cloud Initiative
In the heavily regulated financial services industry, the journey to cloud must be orchestrated to address security, data privacy, and compliance. A leading Australian company recognized that cloud would enable new business opportunities and convert capital expenditures to monthly operating costs. However, with nine million customers, the company must know exactly where its data is stored. Using native cloud storage is not an option for certain data, and regulations require that the company maintain a tertiary copy of data and retain the ability to restore data under any circumstances. The company also needed to vacate one of its disaster-recovery data centers by the end of 2014.
To address these requirements, the company opted for NetApp Private Storage for Cloud. The firm placed NetApp storage systems in two separate locations: an Equinix cloud access facility and a Global Switch colocation facility both located in Sydney. This satisfies the requirement for three copies of critical data and allows them to take advantage of AWS EC2 compute instances as needed, with the option to use Microsoft Azure or IBM SoftLayer as an alternative to AWS without migrating data. For performance, the company extended its corporate network to the two facilities.
The firm vacated the data center on schedule, a multimillion-dollar cost avoidance. Cloud services are being rolled out in three phases. In the first phase, NPS will provide disaster recovery for the company's 12,000 virtual desktops. In phase two, NPS will provide disaster recover for enterprise-wide applications. In the final phase, the company will move all enterprise applications to NPS and AWS. NPS gives the company a proven methodology for moving production workloads to the cloud, enabling it to offer new services faster. Because the on-premises storage is the same as the cloud storage, making application architecture changes will also be faster and easier than it would be with other options. Read the success story to learn more.
    NetApp on NetApp: nCloud
When NetApp IT needed to provide cloud services to its internal customers, the team naturally turned to NetApp hybrid cloud solutions, with a Data Fabric joining the pieces. The result is nCloud, a self-service portal that gives NetApp employees fast access to hybrid cloud resources. nCloud is architected using NetApp Private Storage for AWS, FlexPod®, clustered Data ONTAP and other NetApp technologies. NetApp IT has documented details of its efforts to help other companies on the path to hybrid cloud. Check out the following links to lean more:

I was looking for some real world "Best Practices" of deploying J2EEapplications
    into a Production Weblogic Environment.
We are new at deploying applications to J2EE application servers and arecurrently
    debating 2 methods.
    1) Store all configuration (application as well as Domain configuration)in properties
files and Use Ant to rebuild the domain everytime the application isdeployed.
I am just a WLS engineer, not a customer, so my opinions have in some
regards little relative weight. However I think you'll get more mileage out
of the fact that once you have created your config.xml, checking it into src
control, versioning it. I would imagine that application changes are more
frequent than server/domain configuration so it seems a little heavy weight
to regenerate the entire configuration everytime an application is
deployed/redeployed. Either way you should check out the wlconfig ant task.
    Cheers
    mbg
    2) Have a production domain built one time, configured as required andalways
up and available, then use Ant to deploy only the J2EE application intothe existing,
    running production domain.
I would be interested in hearing how people are doing this in theirproduction
environments and any pros and cons of one way over the other.
    Thanks.

  • How can I display a user's real name in release 2?

In release 1, there was a way to display a welcome message for a user such as "Welcome Jane!" In release 2, I only know how to return the username (using portal.WWCTX_API.get_user) for the user. Is there another procedure available that returns the user's real name? Thanks!

    Here is an example:
    declare
    l_userinfo wwsec_person%rowtype;
    begin
    l_userinfo := wwsec_api.person_info(p_user_name=>wwctx_api.get_user);
    htp.p('First name: '||l_userinfo.first_name);
    htp.p('Middle name: '||l_userinfo.middle_name);
    htp.p('Last name: '||l_userinfo.last_name);
    end;
but bw aware that not all users have their names specified.

  • Creating a multiclip sequence, HERE'S A REAL STUMPER for all you Pros...

    Ok,
this one is a real doozy. We've tried everything we can think of.
Workflow: Three HDX-900 cameras, jam-synced to clocktime and shooting a sports event at 30p (59.94fps) DVCProHD. Recording onto FireStore-100s and backing up onto DVCProHD tape. Dumping firestore DVCProHD footage directly into FCS2. Everything looks and sounds great. We labeled each angle field in FCP according to the camera (A, B, C). We carefully labelled the reel numbers according to our project (P1031308A0101).
I selected the 3 bins (each bin holds the footage from each camera) and made a multiclip sequence. It was UNABLE to make a 60 minute multiclip with the footage from the three cameras spread out according to their timecode. It kept trying to make about 30 multiclips, few of them with overlapping timecode. a couple of the clips did sync together into a 3 camera segment, but most of them failed to find each other. We played with the overlap slider and all of the settings in the multiclip window, and at various points FCP tried to offer us 4 or even 5 camera angles of footage, all from our three angles, each with its own embedded and (seemingly) functional TC. It would NOT simply do the obvious-- take the free-run timecode and arrange each clip along a linear timeline within that timeframe and multiclip them together to form a three-angle view of the sports event.
    Why not?????
Now, one issue we have with this workflow is that the FS-100 drives are unfortunately FAT32, meaning every 2.2 minutes (2 gigs) the FS-100 automatically cuts the footage into 2 gig chunks. but in a regular non-multiclip sequence, this split-up doesn't seem to affect the footage, or timecode at all, and the first frame of the new clip is one TC frame after the last frame of the previous clip, the way it is supposed to. I don't know if this is relevant.
Also, I don't know if this is relevant: We have been shooting in 59.94 fps, 30p, and we have been using the 60@30 method of viewing TC in the viewer and the project settings.
I am thinking that if there was a way to take all my 2.2 minute clips and put them together into a giant master clip (without exporting and losing quality) then my simplified work environment would allow for a working multiclip.
There are three of us in the edit room and we have been trying to multiclip this stuff for hours. We need this solved today. Is there anyone who has an idea? I think we've tried everything obvious. Our computer is a new MacPro with 4gb RAM, capturing onto an eSATA hard drive

    Kevan,
    Thanks for the hey hey.
    TonyTony,
I have lots and lots of 2 minute clips. But we finally figured it out. It's a failing of FCP's multiclip feature to recognize segmented files that originated on a FAT32 drive. Basically, you simply can't, as of FCS2, make multiclips from several files that were automatically split into 2gig segments, even if their timecodes were maintained.
So the solution: I took each camera's footage, lots and lots of 2 minute clips, and pasted them together in quicktime pro to make a longer sequence. then i saved a reference file to the long sequence and brought that into FCP. I did the same for the files from the other 2 cameras. Then multiclipped those reference movies.
The newest version of the FireStore firmware has a setting that lets you create a quicktime reference movie from within the firestore that links the segments together. so my workflow for the future involves making these reference movie, bringing only the reference movies into FCP, and multiclipping them. problem solved.
probably 2 people who are reading this understand what i'm talking about; i'm not particularly great at explaining things. but we're back up and running . thanks for reading.

  • InDesign auto-size frame feature not working in real time in InCopy why?

We have just recently migrated from InCopy CS4 to CS6 to take advantage of the new features like the auto resize frame option, however it now seems that this feature is not working in real-time.
Basically the steps are needed to be complete before it auto-resizes the frame in InCopy, we use both layout and assignment based workflows:
    1. From an ID document ('doc1'), exported a 'layer' to IC, certain frames are set to auto-size in height using the text frame options. So that editorial can review and make changes to text and the frame should resize according to the specifications set. IC stories are saved to a folder located in a content folder inside the top issue working folder.
    2. Editorial opens the IC software, then opens the ID 'doc1'. Check’s out correct .icml file and makes edits to frame with auto resize.
    3. Frame does not resize according to text frame set options and InCopy file does not respond in same fashion as InDesign.
    4. Change only occurs when InCopy file is closed and updated in InDesign, which is frustrating as this feature would save huge amounts of time serving editorial requests.
Has anybody experienced this type of workflow problem? If anyone can provide mw with some pointers as to what can I do to get this to update in real time perhaps run a script? Update file in InCopy and refresh I will very much appreciate their assistance. I have run out of ideas.
    Thanks!

We've had all sorts of problems with this feature as it should've worked straight out of the box but after some testing we have found that its something to do with the way you open the actual file in InCopy. Which is far from ideal and should have been UAT by Adobe before release.
This will not work consistently work if you open the designed .indd or .icma file in InCopy using the file open command within the application.
If you need this to work, the InCopy user has to open the .indd or .icma file by dragging and droping from OS windows explorer into InCopy, we use Windows 7 acrros all the teams. Check out .icml files add text changes to the set auto resized frames, this process will expand/collapse the frames to fit the content but as you have to use the drag and drop method to open the .indd and .icma file, 2 users cannot access the same time doc at the same time (a serious flaw in the programming architecture!) which stops people working in parallel. Save changes, check in .icml content and close .indd or .icma.
However the flaw comes in if you then open the .indd and .icma file in InCopy using the file open command within the application, before an InDesign user opens and saves the file (updates the design). The corrections added in the previous stage above, will not show the frames expanded/collapsed to take in the added text and instead show over matter???? The only way around this is to ask an InDesign user to open, update and save the design that way the InCopy user will see the same result no matter what file open method they use.
Another suggestion is to design the page to have some of the auto resize frames anchored within main body of text and that way the frames will expland/collapse when checking out and editing the content. However, this does cause issues with InDesign crashing etc. so we have tried to stop this method within the working group.
Have you experienced other more serious issues with InDesign crashing consistently when re-importing .icml files? See other forums here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/671820?start=80&tstart=0
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5045608#5045608
As far as we can see this is a major flaw in how the application(s) work, we have an enterprise agreement with Adobe and purchase a large volume of Adobe products globally but so far the technical support team are unable to find a solution to this and I'm not hopeful of any resolution soon even with the new release of Adobe CC.
