Dedicated Client leaves iexplore.exe running after shutdown / Windows 7 IE8

Hi All,
Recently I have noticed an annoying behaviour of the Siebel Dedicated/Developer Client on Windows 7 with IE8.
Everytime it is being shut down, it leaves the iexplore.exe running. This is especially annoying when developing on Win7 because everytime you compile some changes to your SRF, a new instance of iexplore.exe will be started, while the old one is not killed. So after 2-3 hours of development I have like 30 iexplore.exe processes running and finally Siebel starts to do strange things (compiled changes are not reflected in the client, old objects are shown etc)
I know there is already a CR on MOS: 1226854.1 but I was wondering whether someone has found a way to stop this? I assume there could be some registry parameter or IE setting to make it behave like before?

Not sure where to look now.
That's normal.  The 64-bit process is called a "chrome task" and the 32-bit processes are called "tab tasks".  You can use  WMIC  to check them:
wmic.exe  Process  where  Name="iexplore.exe"  Get  CommandLine, ProcessId
you will notice that they are correlated by  SCODEF:  being equal to the chrome task's PID.

  • Help! MacBook fan keeps running after shutdown!

Twice since getting my MacBook a month ago, I've shut down the computer and put it in its carrying case, only to later notice it still emitting heat and its fan running a couple of hours later.
None of the power indicator lights is on. I could neither get it to start up or shut down (even after holding down the power button for over 5 seconds). The only way I could jolt it awake was to plug in its power adapter and then turn it on.
One random factor that I haven't willingly checked is that this may be happening when I close the screen immediately (1 second) after shutdown is complete. Maybe I'm jolting it before it completely shuts down?
Anyone else having this problem? And has anyone found a solution? I hope I don't have a dud here.

    I've had this too.
You need to let it all shut down completely before you close the screen or move it. Don't just let the screen go black - you need to make sure everything has stoped moving etc. It seems to be a bit tempermental about this! Apparently it gets confused if you shut the lid too quickly and tries to sleep instead.
After making sure I shut down properly I haven't had the problem again.
    Hope that helped.

  • After using Lookout Web client, always iexplorer.exe collapses ?

I've read the document with ID:25LCF1J6 that speaks of this same error, and the solution consists of updating the version of Lookout Player. In my case I use the last version of software (5.0).

What OS are you using. I have seen this happen with IE 4 or 5 because it is not run in a separate memory space. Microsoft has an incident on this. I have also seen this happen due to a permission mismatch between the use and administrator rights.

  • Tdx.sys ntkrnlmp.exe BSOD after P2V Windows 2008 R2 Standard

    Hi all,
We ran a P2V against a Server 2008 R2 Standard (SBS) DC on the weekend. Given that VMware hasn't released a cold clone ISO for a while, we used ShadowProtect Recovery Environment and Hardware Independent Restore. It worked a treat, stripped the old physical
    NICs out.
Monday morning it threw a BSOD, then again at 10 am that day.
We immediately patched to remove the http.sys BSOD vulnerability to be safe.
We also patched 2008 R2 to SP1 x64 latest versions.
It crashed again last night, then again at 10 am today and every day since.
The BSOD dumps mention ntkrnlmp.exe and tdx.sys
vSphere is a new Intel server S2600CP2 running vSphere 5.5 Update 2.
The VM is running a VMXnet3 NIC, we've had issues before. RAID controller is Intel RMS25PB040.
The server runs AD/DNS, Exchange, File Shares and Printers.
We're combing through tasks, as it may be falling over at the same time every couple of days.
    We've disabled Kaspersky Endpoint protection.
We will be planning to swap over the VMXnet3 NIC to E1000 later today, once we have a full backup that runs to USB.
After extensive researching we are leaning towards the NIC/network being a problem under load causing the BSOD.
Anyone else have any other suggestions we can try to resolve the BSOD issues?

It seems that you have performed WMware P2V , it is beyond what we can support . You may need to post this issue into WMware forum :
    https://communities.vmware.com/welcome
    In windows hyper-v , there is a tool " disk2VHD" can help us to perform P2V :

  • Task sequences won't run after "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr"

In my Task Sequence for SCCM 2012 R2, no task sequences that occur after the "Setup Windows and Configuration Manager" step will run if I add to the Installation properties:
    PATCH="\\server.domain.com\D$\SMSPKGSIG\PHX00033.2\configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp"
I believe this hotfix is necessary because I had to install on the server to fix the speed of downloading the WIM file. And I believe it says I need to append this PATH= switch to the install.
Is my path used incorrectly or something? Because that is the actual path to the file.
My task sequences will run fine if I remove it and just leave the SMSMP=server.domain.com in the install properties.

Your path would then be :
    PATCH="C:\_SMSTaskSequence\OSD\JJJ00033.2\configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp"
I suggest that you plan for further patches. Create a directory with all your future hotfix in it.
    Ex: D:\SCCMHotFixes\KBNumber\x64
Your "Patch" parameter will grow over time, when a new hotfix will be release, you'll need
to add it after this one and so on...
I always use the _SMSTSDataPath without any problem, you could also try this.
    PATCH=""%_SMSTSMDataPath%\OSD\JJJ00033.2\configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp"

  • Java.exe vs iexplore.exe

We're running Java 1.6.0_16 on our machines to access Oracle Forms for our E-Business system.
We are running the Java applet with the "next generation Java Plug-in" disabled (as this causes issues within our system)
I've noticed that our install is seemingly not consistent.
Some users who launch java (via the program) while getting into the forms, get an "iexplore.exe" entry in their "control panel - performance" while others get a "java.exe" entry.
The users who get the java.exe are more prone to crashes and "loss of focus" when in the forms.
ALL users get the "java.exe" entry in "control panel - performance" if the next generation java plug-in is enabled.
How is it possible that the same install can lanch in two different ways?
It almost seems like the action of disabling java plug-in is not being recognised.
How do we remedy this situation to only get the "iexplore.exe" running in control panel?

No, I was recommending you launch the applet using javaws, then close the browser, since the browser is entirely irrelevant to the JWS launched applet, which is now free floating on the screen like a JFrame (e.g. outside a web page/browser).
Not on our application I'm afraid.
We have the initial html/xml JTF Framework page a user logs into, there they have a list of their responsibilities, some of these responsibilites will take them into other html/xml pages, others will launch java and into the core application.
As the java is launching another web page is opened, it's almost like a placer, un-interactive window, which then leads to the actual app running java opening.
So you basically have 3 windows open, the initial web page, a "placer" web page and the actual app.
We can close the initial web page without a problem, but this is a stable window. When we have crashes it is this window that remains unscathed by the crash, and what is used to launch the app running java again.
If we close the second html "placer" page it will immediately crash the app running java. In fact it has a disclaimer saying:
IMPORTANT: Do not close this window. Closing this window will cause Oracle Forms-based applications to close immediately, losing any unsaved data. This window may be minimized safely at any time and may be closed once all work in Oracle Forms-based applications is complete.
Closing the actual java app will naturally leave the other two windows open.
My problem is that during the launch process, some users get a java.exe program launching while others the aforementioned iexplore.exe. In both cases Java is running and the app is functioning correctly, it's just that where java.exe is being displayed as the active program, there seems to be a tendency for the program to crash, while those displaying iexplore.exe are more stable.
I'm trying to understand why the exact same call would in some situations launch iexplore.exe and in others java.exe.
As far as I can see, setup and install is identical. As previously stated, if "next-generation plug-in" (in Java Control Panel) is enabled, then the entry will always read java.exe.
My thoughts are that depite this next generation plug-in being disabled, this is not being picked up as being disabled in some region of the java and is causing us instability.

    Hi Isaac Goldfarb,
Based on BurrWalnut and Andre.Ziegler’s suggestion, please try to run SFC scan to solve this issue:
System File Checker (SFC) scan can troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on your computer.
Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, type
cmd in the Start, right-click Command Prompt, and then click
Run as administrator in the bpottom. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Yes.
At the command prompt, type the command sfc /scannow and then press
    ENTER.
    The
sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
For more information, please review this article Sfc to get more help:

  • Windows 7 becoming corrupt after "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" step

    Hey all,
Redid my reference images and now I got an issue with several machines I tried doing bare metal OSD on.
The TS aborts somehow, it still thinks it's running, after Setup Windows and ConfigMgr. After that step it reboots and I'm greeted with a weird Win 7 logon screen where the font kinda looks like Windings (the font folder on the machine is almost empty, that's
    why).
Looked at the ccmsetup log. This error is listed: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ee4e31cd-d456-44f4-a980-6a785d393d84/ccmsetup-failed-with-error-code-0x80040154-in-ccmsetuplog?forum=configmanagerdeployment
The log also complains about BITS, too low version to be able to install ConfigMgr. But obviously Win 7 contains BITS v 4, so I don't get what happens.
None of the apps I install in the reference image build I'm able to start (IE 10, Office apps), Office is not even listed in Add/Remove Programs.
I have redone the reference images two times, once in plain MDT 2013 and once in SCCM.
The error is inconsistent. It happens most frequently on Dell Precision T1700 machines, but not always. Sometimes there's no error when installing the ConfigMgr client and I don't get any font issues, but I still can't start Office apps or IE 10. This is driving
    me mad.
ccmsetup.log and smsts.log files are here if anyone wants to take a look: http://1drv.ms/1ETazJx
    Please help!

You may have a similar issue we had. When we upgraded to R2, and updated our boot images from WinPE 4.0 to WinPE 5.0 we came across a bug with DISM. Our machines would get to the Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step and hang on a black screen/white cursor. After
working with Microsoft for a few weeks we found using a x64 boot image resolved our issue deploying Windows 7 x64.
Can you try recreating your x86 boot image and if that does not work try creating x64?
    Daniel Ratliff | http://www.PotentEngineer.com
For me, using a x64 boot image solved the problem. Why I don't know. I created a new x64 MDT boot image and task sequence and tested all newly captured wims on several different models, with different settings, and I couldn't reproduce the problem.
Then I tested the old task sequence (basically only difference is that it uses x86 boot image) and the first deployment went fine. The next one gave me the ccmsetup/windings font error again.
Thanks for your help! I'm also very eager to hear what Microsoft came up with during your support ticket.

  • Disk Error after BC Windows XP Install on Snowleopard

So when I inserted the Windows XP disc in my mac after it told me to, my computer restarted and installed Windows XP on my newly partitioned 40GB Fat32 drive (it had asked to chnage to NTSF but I selected leave without changing.  After installing Windows it said something like "Windows is installed, now restarting", now every I try to boot up with the Windows XP partition by holding down "option/alt" at start up, it goes to the black DOS like screen and says Disk Error, cannot load Windows, press any key to continue". Pressing any key does nothing, so I have to restart, and thus I am at another brick wall.
I downloaded some Boot Camp Snow Leopard Drivers and tried burning the .iso of it to a disc but that wasn't even working, not sure I even need to get to that step yet.
    Help?

Got it, was supposed to reformat the drive within the windows installation.  Turns out reading the .pdf manual can be helpful....

  • How to run siebel dedicated client in a IE sandbox

    Hi all,
I don't know if sandbox is the right term for this, but here is what I need to do. We use Internet Explorer 8 to run our Siebel 8.1.1.10 version. Our Enterprise want's to install a newer IE version, but they cannot because Siebel requieres IE 8. I must admit, that I am not aware why it would not run on newer IE versions but they made a test and it failed. The solution to this would be to migrate to Open UI but due to high costs this is not an option.
However, our Windows Engeneers developed a package to run IE8 in a sandbox. So we have IE8 installed under C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer and have a sandbox folder C:/Workarea/SiebelApps Thinapp_V2/ where another Internet Explorer8.exe is located. We use a separate Registry within the sandbox folder. The target is to have IE12 installed under Program Files and IE8 in a sandbox. We are able to open the webclient using the sandbox IE8 exe and everything seems to work fine. But if we try to open the dedicated client the application doesn't start. IE shows "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". The URL is "http://localhost/start.swe" so this seems to be ok.
To start the dedicated Client we use the command line. We added the parameter /b pointing to the sandbox IE8 exe File (as you may see we use DEU language on Windows...)
    START "" /D "C:\Programme\APP\SIA\Client_81110\BIN" "C:\Programe\APP\SIA\Client_81110\bin\siebel.exe" /c "C:\Programe\APP\SIA\Client_81110\bin\deu\zkbconnect_kfg2.cfg" /b "C:\Workarea\SiebelApps Thinapp_V2\Internet Explorer 8.exe" /u T580 /p T580 /d ServerDataSrc
It seems to me that start.swe command cannot be found.
If we remove the /b parameter so that siebel uses the IE installed under Program Files the dedicated client starts and works.
Has anyone tried to do something like this before or has a hint on how we could do this?
    Kind Regards
    Claudio
We found an issue description in Oracle SupportWeb. There is a problem with the /b parameter found in 8.1.1.6. The Bug has been closed without a solution. Just naming the workarround to use the default browser. However I would say that the workaround was just a way to close a bug they do not want or cannot close because you would not need /b to open Siebel in the default browser. You would just use it if you want Siebel to open in a  browser that is not set as default. So I will close this thread because there will never be a solution to this problem.

    Hello Chetan,
    Thank you for the hints.
Dedicated Client itself works fine if we use the standard IE browser installed on the windows machine. We are just not able to start the Dedicated Client if we use the IE installed as a sandbox. Actually it is better to say, that the Dedicated Client starts, but IE throws an exception that it cannot connect to the website. It is maybe clearer if i put this in context:
    Using the IE Standard Browser:
    Shortcut: C:\APP\SIA\Client_81110\BIN\siebel.exe /b "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" /c "C:\APP\SIA\Client_81110\bin\deu\zkbconnect_eng1.cfg"
    1. When I press the shortcut, Siebel asks for my credentials.
    2. Type in logon Id and password
    3. Dedicated Client starts in IE. URL is http://localhost/start.swe
    4. Siebel Application starts and the siebel homepage is shown in IE.
    --> So everything OK
Using the IE Standbox Browser (just the /b parameter is different):
    Shortcut: C\APP\SIA\Client_81110\BIN\siebel.exe /b "C:\Workarea\SiebelApps Thinapp_V2\Internet Explorer8.exe" /c "C:\APP\SIA\Client_81110\bin\deu\zkbconnect_eng1.cfg"
    1. When I press the shortcut, Siebel asks for my credentials.
    2. Type in logon Id and password
    3. Dedicated Client starts in IE. URL is http://localhost/start.swe
    4. Siebel is unable to load the homepage. We get a connection error instead. "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
    --> NOK
We actually just want the Dedicated Client to start with a differen browser. But this failes for unknown reasons. As you mentioned we tried to renaming the exe-File so that it would not contain spaces. Unfortunatly it did not help.
The client log files doesn't show any connection error on debug level 5. So we have no idea what could be the problem is.
Our windows team is currently analysing the registry files in the sandbox to check if there is a problem. If they get me new information I will post this in the thread.
    Kind Regards,
    Claudio

  • SERVIC~1.EXE Stays Running After PC Suite Exits

It's great that automatic start-up is now optional in PCS version 6.80.20, and that you can 'Exit' from the sys tray icon. But when I use Exit, it always leaves SERVIC~1.EXE running. Does this matter and is it a bug? (XP2 fully patched; Nokia 6021; Bluetooth).

In most cases and by default, the frmweb process will die approximately 15 minutes after receiving its last heartbeat from the client. This assumes the runtime is not in a hung or spinning state. My recommendation is the following:
    1. Set networkRetries to 5 (in formsweb.cfg)
    2. Set FORMS_TIMEOUT to 10 (in default.env)
    3. Set HEARTBEAT to 5 (in formsweb.cfg)
Finally, be sure you are using a newer, certified JRE. For example 1.6.0_31.

  • Iexplore.exe and iexplore.exe*32 running together in Task Manager

    Hello everyone,
I have a Windows 7 64bit client and when I kick off IE10 I noticed in Task Manager that both iexplore.exe and iexplore.exe*32 are running at the same time; now I thought that it was add-on or add-ons but after I disabling all of them I still get
the same thing. Could it be a Local Policy in place or maybe an advance setting that I am missing? Not sure where to look now.

Not sure where to look now.
That's normal.  The 64-bit process is called a "chrome task" and the 32-bit processes are called "tab tasks".  You can use  WMIC  to check them:

After updating to Firefox 29.0, firefox.exe *32 process keeps running after application exit, and must be terminated manually before Firefox will re-start. The update to 29.0.1 did not solve the issue. All updates prior to 29.0 never exhibited this problem, and there have been no other changes to my system, so this issue originated with 29.0.

Thanks for the response, and you are right, for now the only one being helped by leaving telemetry on is me, because there is (apparently) no problem to report when it is on.
    Slight clarification:
    1. Enabling history and cache fixes problem.
    2. Enabling telemetry fixes problem.
    3. Enabling history and cache, cycling FireFox on/off, then disabling history and cache, fixes problem during current power cycle, but not persistently between power cycles.
    4. All the above settings do persist across power cycles.

  • AddOn Exe running multiple instance in client machine

    Hello Experts,
I have created a addon which i have installed in the server .While connecting the addon from the client machine addon runs
well . But at the end of day when i see the task manager their it shows two to three instance of that addon exe running
.I have written the application event in my addon for its termination when the sap is closed or addon is stopped.
Even though system shows two to three instance of that addon exe running on that client machine.
Suggest how to solve this multiple instance problem of AddOn Exe.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Amit

    Hello Amit,
this comes because SAP B1 Dumps, and your addon is not terminated. You can check the
C:\Program Files\SAP\SAP Business One\Log folder for SAP B1 logs. If you see more than 1 file per day, you can make sure, that the application has been restarted.
When B1 dumps,. the addons are not getting disconnected, so you can build a monitoring procedure into the addon, to look SAP B1 is alive or not.
In forum, last year I have sent at least 2 solutions for handling this issue, but it is very hard to  handle in terminal servers because there you running several SAP Business One.exe applications.
If you not using terminal server, it is not an problem. follow up this threads

  • Installer build spec loses spec for exe to run after

I don't know why, but now & then the build spec for my application installer loses the setting in the Advanced tab to run a certain .exe after installing. The .exe to run after installing is created by a build spec in the same project (from LV source). Besides rebuilding that .exe (without changing the .exe's build spec, name, or location, just minor source code mods), nothing has changed in the project, but the installer's Advanced setting will suddenly be gone. What the heck?!
My project & source files are too large to attach.

    Hi Meg,
I noticed this forum post and figured I would chime in here as well.
We have been working on this issue and are hoping to isolate the exact steps that cause the sporadic loss of the postbuild EXE setting. An initial suspicion was the EXE being moved or rebuilt to a different location. That being said, if anyone has run into this issue in the past and has any insight it would be appreciated, as this problem has not been consistently reproduced.
    Thanks,
