Default bullet RH 11
Unordered list are a problem for me. How can I change the default bullet for all bulleted unordered lists in my projects made in RH 11?
I can change them manually for each list again and again but there must be a way to change the default so I can simply use the button in the menu.
I tried to make changes in the HTML editor for styles. Without succes.
Where/how must I use List-style-image?
Aart Korstjens
Peter,
When I open Styles/List Styles/Edit Selected item, I see the image somewhere in "Paragraph Preview".
When I open the default.css in the Project Manager by clicking Edit or Edit with CSS Manager I see the same.
When I open the default.css by clicking Edit with HTML editor or open it in my Dreamweaver program I see
I hope I gave you enough information now.

I have Indesign CS3. When I type Ctrl+Alt+8 there is a bullet (a round and small dot) appearing before the text I am typing. Is there any way to change this "default" bullet to something else using Wingdings font or so. How to make it? Thanks for your kind help...
Huong NguyenOne trap to avoid: a simple way to add these special characters is to type the character used to represent them in Dingbats, Wingdings or whatever, and then at some convenient point do a search for that character standing on its own and simply change the font.
So beware choosing a character that is represented by a letter that could stand on its own in your text - like I or a in English - and also watch out for any use of this character where it doesn't have a space either side, like at the start of a paragraph.

Display a character code of default bullets in c#
Hi All,
range.ListFormat.ListValue gives the value count of any formatted list , is there a way to get the character code of a bullet in ms word using c# .Searched a lot , not able to find any methods all default bullets are under one library Word.WdListType.wdListBullet
I need to distinguish if a line has a circle bullet or arrow bullet .How do I do this?
Thanks in advance!VSTO doesn't provide anything for that. Try asking your Word specific questions on the
Word for Developers forum instead. -
After searching for an answer I discovered that in CS3 there did not seem to be the ability to change the default bullet, but does anyone know if it can be done yet with CS4? If so - how?? Thanks, Louise
Thank you, I will remember to set all the defaults for
bullets, fonts, kerning - everything before I start my next
project!
Great tip - set things up the way you want them BEFORE you open/create your document.
Maybe being able to adjust default setting is something for the folks at Adobe to think about adding for CS5!
Thanks again, Louise -
Changing the default bullets insertion location closer to the left end of the document
hi friends
i am new to office 2013 & i have a problem
in office Word, in a documents when i click on Bullets, system insert it but the space between Bullets & left end of the document page is much for me.
how can i configure Word application so that every time in insert a Bullet structure, it be located somehow more left so that less space from left end
thanks in advanceHi John,
You can make the change by selecting the "Define New MultiLevel
list...", Or create a new list style by clicking "Define New List Style...".
Then adjust the value for "Aligned at:" and "Text indent at:" option.

How to copy the bullet point format/style from MS Word to Pages?
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to make the swap from Mac Word to Pages but the one thing that frustrates me so much to the point of not using Pages is the bullet point system.
In Word the set spacings are exactly how I want them - whereas in Pages, everything is tighter - there is less space between the margin and the point, the point and the text etc.
I've painstakingly inserted all the spacings from Word into Pages and saved it as a "style" but it just reverts back to the default positioning when I open up a new document and select my saved style.
Any ideas / a magic tool to just copy the style from Word? It's such a shame because Pages is a much slicker programme than Word and I really want to use it but as a student, bullet points are my world.
Thanks,
JamesHi Peter, thanks for your reply.
Yeah I get the font and formatting for the text copied no problem when copying but I'm talking about from scratch in a new document, I insert a bullet point and even when selecting my saved style, it just reverts back to the default.
I agree, massive pain. It is the only thing stopping me from making the full switch now iCloud Drive is getting close to Dropbox.
Am I a misguided fool for thinking there's a patch or modification of some description that can copy the default bullet spacings from Word and create a new style following them in Pages?
Thanks, James -
I would like a way to control the space AFTER a list of bullet points ends. The last item in a bullet list, in other words, before the text that follows. I can control spacing between paragraphs easily, but with bullet list, each item has a paragraph return.
I could manually add additional spacing on the last item in a bullet list. But it'd be cool if I could have that in my Styles. Maybe it's a feature request.
As a web developer, I know in HTML I can control spacing before and after a list (ul). You need to have a special paragragh style for the list. There is a default bullet list style in Pages 4. Use it for the list.
For the Body text, use that style for the body text, set both line spacing before and after. Like you say you can't set it for the bullet list as all lines in the list will get more spacing.
Or do what I usually do I add a paragraph break before and after the bullet list. -
Outline Print out for bullets & numbering
Hi,
In RoboHelp my default bullets have a left margin of say "0",
but when I generate the print version they have a margin of say
"1". It looks like this:
1. xyz
* xyz
SSL Print out
1. xyz
* xyz
Any ideas for a permanent fix?For anyone else the answer is:
The margin settings for the numbered list can be tweaked by
editiing the Lists style in RH (Format > Styles > Lists >
Modify > Format > Paragraph >Indentation).
If you don't see "Lists" as a style, make sure the box (Hide
Inherited Styles), below the available styles is not checked, then
it should show up. -
Web-help output - square bullets issue (firefox)

I wonder if anyone has come up with a fix for square bullets not being displayed in Firefox correctly.
I've created some lists using the multi level list styles which work perfectly.
The bullet list display great in all browsers apart from firfox. The issue is square bullets being displayed as § symbols.
The obvious fix is not to use square bullets
Or to use a image for square bullet but that may render differently in print.
I'd rather find a workaround using the default bullets.
Appreciate it is a firefox issue rather than Robohelp specfic. But sure someone out there has a solution?
I'm fiddling round with styles to try and sort it out but would appreciate any advice.
thanks

How do I "deselect" Use Default Settings?
I download a podcast each day, but I cannot get it automatically, because my ITunes always goes back to "Use Default Settings". How can I deselect this?
You could start using the default bullet style on a list you have. Do the changes you want and then Create a new style from selection by clicking on the triangle on the left of the style name.

Conversion from word problems with images
Hi ,
I managed to make a conversion table to structure the documents of out company.I am having a proble with images.I am importing the word file to our template with a custom EDD document. When the import finishes I am having all images at almost correct places. The issue is when i apply the custom conversion table all the images at anchored at insertion point. The correct position would be at below current line.I am stuck and I can not find a solution to this.

Thanks a lot in advanceDimitris,
I know you originally posted this question on the general FrameMaker forum. I suggest below that you post a follow-up question there.
The structure-based part of the issue is that neither a conversion table nor an EDD can change properties of an existing anchored frame. It seems that when you open your Word document in FrameMaker, the graphics come in positioned at the insertion point. That doesn't change when you apply the conversion table. Your EDD does specify object style FiguredCentered as the initial format for GRAPHIC elements. The keyword here is "initial". The EDD can indicate a style for new anchored frames that are created by inserting an element. It does not allow you to change existing anchored frames.
So the real problem is how to make a global change to all existing anchored frames (either assigning an object style or changing the position to Below Current Line) so that you don't have to change them one at a time. I am not aware of a way to do so with existing FrameMaker commands. You could use a script or plug-in, or save the document as MIF and make a global change with a text editor in the MIF file. You might ask on the general FrameMaker forum if someone there knows an easier approach.

Format menu button missing from MS Word for Mac
Hi all,
This is driving me crazy! My Word for Mac 2004 works perfectly, usually love it, but for some reason, the format menu -which I use to customize my default bullet and numbering lists, paragraph spacing etc. -is missing from the top of the screen. I've got File, Insert, View, Edit, Font, Tools, Table, Window, Work, and Help, but no Format. Lately I've been getting by just using my formatting palette and formatting toolbar, but it's really not enough. Also, the toolbar button from the Insert button is also missing.
I feel like I'm going nuts! You know how you'll look everywhere for a pair of socks and then find it right in front of your nose? Please, someone embarrass me with an easy answer!Since Office is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum.
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered -
I am trying to get the 2nd tier of a numbered list to use

It seemed easy enough with CSS

Can I change the default text/bullet indents?
Hi
I'm familiar with the idea of creating a template with the formatting that I prefer, but I can't figure out a way to include the indent values that I like to use when I create a list.
When you go into the inspector and select Text / List / Text Bullets the default indents come up as 0 cm. You can obviously change these values for the list you are working on at the time, but as soon as you start a new list elsewhere in your document it's back to zero. So I can't see how you could ever set it as a default in a templete.
Any ideas? Am I missing something?
Thanks!yes, you have to create a paragraph style with the formatting you want. Read about Styles in chapter 6 of the Pages User Guide. you can choose it from the Pages Help menu. I presume you are using Pages 09

Numbered bullet list-default values
I have been using Text Expander to insert templates into Pages documents. One of these templates creates a simple numbered bullet list, with only the number one, followed by a period.
When I add text to this bullet list and press enter or return, I get each new number in sequence. However, there is a preset “Text Indent” under the “List” tab, and a preset “Left Tab” under the “Tabs” tab.
The Text Expander macro is saving the text in rich text format.
Is there a way to set default values for the “Number” bullet list in the tab value, such that I do not have these indents and tabs whenever I start a new bullet list?
Thanks@Jerry-
Thanks much. I've been reading on styles, and it does exactly what I need.
Mucho gracias!
