Default site https

Hi,
I just installed mountain lion server. By default it's listening to https port 443. Even if I deacitivate all the services. I want to install rumpus FTP but I also want it to listen to https. How do I change the default web server port of mountain lion server?

Thx all of you for your replies. The Rumpus FTP server is has a webinterface and it's this webinterface that interferes since we really want both of them to use https.
I found the solution at the rumpus FAQ and I wanted to share it. You never know if somebody wants to do the same thing.
The solution is to configure Apache as a reverse proxy:

If you have more than one domain file in different folders and want to open one of them in particular when you open the application, put a copy of its domain file into Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb

... the site whose index.html file exists in Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites opens.
When you upload the site - iwayne - its index.html file will replace the default. You need to keep a copy of the index file for the default site and upload it to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites by drag and drop after you publish changes to the site - iwayne.
To see the iwayne site in the browser you will enter the URL....

A recent download made yahoo as my default site when opening a new tab. how do I change this?

A recent software update/download has changed my default site (on new tab only) to http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20111042,6894,0,22,0
I cannot remember how to change the setting as I do not want Yahoo as my default (anything). Can someone please advise on how to reset the 'new tab' from yahoo to mozilla?

Cant log into R12 default site after installation !!!

Hi all,
I have installed R12 on windows 2003, the post installation was successful and i was able to see the test site but it was couldnt log into it because of java error.
Then i restarted and now i cant get into it default site any more. Try to restart the apache service but i couldnt find it.
I am able to ping both the host and the fQdN without any problem

This is the last paragraph of the error code as i cant display all because of the restriction, i really dont understand what going on though. My guess is there is a problem with some java script not applying properly.

Changing the default site collection

Hi,
We have two site collections on a dev box. Is there an easy way in central admin or through powershell scripting to change the default site collection?

What do you mean by 'Default' site collection?
If you mean the one that is at the root of a Web Application you would need to move the one there to a new path using Move-SPSite, then move the other one to the root location and (assuming you want a straight swap) move the original root site collection
to the path previously used by the other one.
You could backup and restore the sites but that's a bit more effort and confusing imo.

Wrong Default Site Loads

Big problem. I uploaded a second trial site (B) onto my MobileMe with iWeb using iWebSites as the switcher. Now I've lost the connection between my domain name and my primary site (A).
The domain name is www.godwhisperers.com
The primary site (A) is where it's always been at: http://www.godwhisperers.com/TheGodWhisperers/Home/Home.html
The secondary site (B), which has become the default site that the domain name goes, is:
http://www.godwhisperers.com/TaketheStand/Home.html
Short of doing a very lenghthy Publish All with a domain that hasn't been tinkered with by iWebSites, is there anything I can do to fix this?

I don't use iWebSites, but I do keep my various websites in separate domain files and publish them all to MobeMe. Here's what works for me:
-Each site must have a unique name in the iWeb organizer. (i.e. SiteA, SiteB, etc.)
-Only use the Publish All feature for the site that is you want connected to your short url/personal domain address
-The Publish button counts as "Publish All"
-For all other sites, use "Publish to MobileMe" Under most conditions, this will not mess with the index file
Obviously, if you create a new site, it will "Publish All" regardless of your choices, and you will have to go back and use "Publish All" on the site that is supposed to be "on top."
You can also make a copy of the index.html file when everything is as it is supposed to be, and save it in a safe place, then replace it when you need to.
I can't guarantee that the above will work with iWebsites, but I think it should be worth a try.

Team Site default site assets library does not have support for video, images, etc..

Our users have noticed that when they create a new subsite that the default site assets library does not give them the option to create a new document type of video, image, etc.. just a word document.
If I create a new asset library I do see all the options when creating a new file from the drop down menu under the ribbon >files>new document
Is this default behavior when creating a new team site or is there something that I can configure so that the default site assets library that is built is really a site assets library and not a standard document library?

i think you are talking about the "Site Assets" Library and this is not meant for the Asset Library.Yes this is default behavior.
Site Assets: Use this library to store files which are included on pages within this site, such
as images on Wiki pages. jsut think about the other OOTB libraries i.e Style, Pages libraries etc.
Assets Library is the one you need to add in your site collection to take the advantage of it.

Ports required for communication between Web servers and service applications (the default is HTTP)

We're using SharePoint 2010, I'm the system admin for a SharePoint farm. We enabled SharePoint Search by adding a Search Service APplication. One of the crawl report timer job is failing every 5 minte with the error "Cannot connect to remote server".
After digging around, we found that the server running the timer job tries to connect to the SearchAdmin.svc on the index server, over HTTPS / port 32844 However, communication over SSL via a non default port is blocked by our firewall.
According to this article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262849.aspx the default is HTTP for communication
between web servers. How is it possible that it's trying to connect over SSL?

How to Fix Forbidden 403 on Default Site?

I'm trying to get started with the Webserver on our new Mini Mac Server running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. After starting the webserver I tried adding a virtual host for phpmyadmin by moving the pma folder under /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites and then creating a new site in the Server App and choosing that folder for the site. I set 'phpmyadmin' for domain name, the server's internal IP for IP address and random port (8700) for port number, hoping that I could access phpmyadmin at x.x.x.x:8700.
That didn't work, I got 403 Forbidden. Then, trying to access the server's default site, I got 403 Forbidden too. I hadn't touched the default site's settings or anything. So I removed the phpmyadmin from Sites. Still 403 on Default site. Shut down and restarted the webserver, same thing.
Finally I used sudo serveradmin command web:command=restoreFactorySettings to restore factory settings and restarted the webserver but to no avail.
So any ideas of how to get the Default site working again and how to create a new virtual host that I can access locally with IP:portnumber?

Under the sites list in Server for the Web service, you can double click the default site and you will see "Who can access". Have you verified this setting is "Everyone" or a group that you are a part of?
Also, have you verified the permissions in Finder/Terminal for /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites? What are the permissions on the folders?

Firefox defaults to https version of a website, how to disable this?

On my website I have a SSL certificate installed so you can reach it via https://www.example.net and http://www.example.net. To administer my website, I access it over https but when I just want to see the changes or simply visit the website, I don't want to see the the website over https. I want to visit it over the http. However, since Firefox "remembers" this website can be reached over https even when I type in the address bar www.example.net it takes me to https://www.example.net. I have to manually remove the "s" or enter the full http://www.example.net address in order to see the website over http.
While some may find this default behavior desirable, I find it annoying and should I wish to access the website over https I will enter the full address with https at the beginning.
My question is, how do I disable the Firefox from defaulting to https connection? I'd not like to disable completely the auto fill feature if that's the only way to do it.
Firefox 20.0 on OS X 10.8.3.

I also have this problem and I don't want to disable autofill. My best workaround so far is to use Chrome instead. I hope mozilla will eventually revert this auto https "feature" some day!

I can no longer open tabs while in Mozilla Firefox. It only opens my default site.

I keep losing internet connection via IE. I have been using Mozilla Firefox and, I am now starting to drop internet connection via Firefox. I've had my router checked and that is not the problem. When I do connect and see my default page, I can no longer access additional tabs to go to other sites. Please advise.

Disabling is not enough, you need to uninstall the toolbar.
Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

How do I change the default site for a new tab?

I want to change the page that opens when I open a new tab. I followed the answer that was given for the "how do I change which website that opens when I open a new tab?" question (4/5/14, given by ideato to emmafrom), without success.
(The steps advised were:
In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
copy and paste in the search field browser.newtab.url
double-click on it and type the web page you want
Click OK, and you are OK. !)
As mentioned, this did not work. I still get a bing search page for a new tab, regardless.
Please advise.

Cannot create a new site while a VD/code works in Default site. IIS 7.5 Windows 2008r2 64 bit system

We are moving from CF8 to CF11, windows 2003 to windows 2008 r2 64bit, IIS 6 to IIS 7.5. When I have my code as a VD or placed in the wwwroot, in the Default website, the site works OK but when I create a new site pointing to the code,placing in a different folder, it throws an error :
"The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler."
1. All the Handler Mappings are mapped OK.
2. Tried re-installing ASP.NET, iisreset etc.
3. Tried changing the AppPool.
Please reply ASAP.

Hi Naresh
Let's first make sure that this is not an IIS issue. Like, if you have another server or may be 2-3 test VM where you can test the same.
If on the other servers, you are not facing the same issue then re-install IIS and then create connector once again in the server where you are facing this issue.
Also, make sure that if connector is 64 bit then the app pool should be 64 bit as well.
