Default the viewer to Microsoft Excel instead of PDF

I have a RTF template created for the report. I need the output to be of type Microsoft Excel. When I submit the request, automatically it defaults the output type to PDF. When I go into Options in the Submit Request screen and manually change the LAyout format to Excel, then it opens in Excel, otherwise it defaults to PDF. I need this to be automatically sending Excel output. IS there a way this can be done
Thanks

Since yesterday all my usual .xls files will not open (Office for Mac 2011). CAN open .xlxs files. Default 'open with' is Microsoft Excel.app. No software updates done yesterday or the day before (or maybe a Silverlight or an Acrobat one by accident?). Have repaired disc permissions. HHD name is still same as it always was. What next? Thanks
PS I'm not a great techie so assume I don't know what you're talking about!

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • Dumping data from an advanced data grid on the browser to microsoft Excel

I am building an app which enables a user to define a sql
query in a flex app on the browser. Once defined and the data
retrieved, the result set is then displayed in an advanced data
grid. The user then needs to be able to dump the data in the grid
    to an Excel spreadsheet.
I'm wondering if anybody can point me to some possible
solutions for the Excel data dump part of this problem? Everything
    else works.
Flex help does have one solution, but I'm getting an error
message that doesn't want to yield. I'd like to know if there are
    other possibilities?
Thanks in advance. Jerry in Juneau, Alaska

What version are you using? If in 9i, you can use external tables. Otherwise, you will need either SQL loader, or to use ODBC. If you send me an example of your data, I can create a sample of each for you.

  • HT201403 It would be very helpful for Apple to re-instate the view as icon option for a pdf file in an email on the right click menu? As far as I can see no easy way for a basic user to get this back?

Would be great for Apple to reinstate the pdf as icon in mail - but using the right click menu. It seems to have gone - and as a basic user there seems to be no simple solution - I used the rich/plain text swap but it didn't work...
Apple - we need you to solve!

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
It's highly doubtful that Apple will change this in Mac OS X 10.7 since that OS version has now been discontinued for quite some time. Whether they will change that in OS X 10.9 or a future version I can't say.
If this is a serious issue for you, you can look into Attachement Tamer:
    http://lokiware.info/Attachment-Tamer
It's not free, but it addresses much more than the issue of PDFs appearing as images, not icons, so it might be worth the price.

  • Why does the email button attach xml instead of pdf?

Sorry, it's probably a stupid question, but I can't figure it out! Thanks a million!

Hi Diana. You can use the Button object (not a Submit button) and modify it to submit the PDF version of your document.
    After you've placed a button in your layout;
    1) click on the Object tab
    2) Select "Submit" as your Control Type
when you've done this, a "Submit" tab will appear
    3) Click on the "Submit" tab
    4) Change the "Submit Format" to "PDF"
    5) Add the e-mail address in the "Submit to URL" field (as below);

  • Microsoft Excel cannot access the file "-". There are several possible reasons. Windows Server 2008 R2 with Microsoft Office 2010

I have a problem with starting the Excel Application under a particular user (service account).
I try to schedule this C# script through an application X (not Windows Task Scheduler. And this
application will always use a service account to run services on the server). If I run the C# script in
command prompt under the same user, it runs. Under the application X, which uses the exact same
user, to initiate the C# script, it fails to open the Excel application (not sufficient permission?).
This script calls application.Workbooks.Open(<ExcelFileName>,0,false,Type.missing....). At this line
of code, it gives the following error:
Microsoft Excel cannot access the file "...". There are several possible reasons:
-The file name or path does not exist.
-The file is being used by another program.
-The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.
I tried all the methods that I found online as follow:
Create directory "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop" (for 64 bit Windows) or "C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop" (for 32 bit Windows).
Changed the DCOM config for the Microsoft Excel application to include this user for Local/Remote Launch and Access.
Enabled all macros in Excel application and set the Trust Center.
Add the user to have full control on all folders that contain the Excel file.
    Under DCOM
config, Microsoft Excel Application, if I modify the Identity tab to check on "This User" and enter the username/password to let Excel always run under that user. Then the application runs perfectly. However, other users can't run the excel application
on their own with the following error: "Cannot use object linking and embedding". If I check "Use the launching user", then Excel can't be launched. No errors in the logs or events anywhere to check.
Yet, still the same error. I think it's permission but I am not sure where and what to do for this to work.
Now, normally, when I run this excel report, I can double-click on the file and it'd automatically run,
save the new parameters into the current file and generate a new excel file (with date attached to the
file name). That means there is a change (save) to the original file.
Environment: Windows Server 2008 R2 and running Microsoft Excel 2010.
    I appreciate all your help!

I am wondering if this has anything to do with having the user log into Excel.
In point #5 above: Under DCOM config, Microsoft Excel Application, if I modify the Identity tab to check on "This User" and enter the username/password to let Excel always run under that user. Then the application runs perfectly. However, other
users can't run the excel application on their own with the following error: "Cannot use object linking and embedding". If I check "Use the launching user", then Excel can't be launched. No errors in the logs or events anywhere to check.
Because running with the launching user proposes an user to run the Excel application. However, I do not think there is any where that we can pass in the password for this user to Excel. However, this Excel has all the permissions to Excel application as
well as the folders that have the Excel files.
    Please help!
    Thank you!

  • XMP files created in LR5 are showing in Finder as "Microsoft Excel 97-2004 workbook" files--???

I import NEF files as I've done for years...no problem on import.
Now I've noticed that once I start making adjustments in LR5, the accompanying XMP files show in the Finder as "Microsoft Excel 97-2004 workbook" files. Instead of as "Adobe XMP" files. Huh???
I'm able to work fine within LR, but since I noticed this I've been a) converting imported files to DNGs within LR, and b) importing new files as DNGs.
But sometimes I want to import files as NEFs...any idea why this is happening? Is it a LR bug? Is DNG conversion the best (only?) solution?
Thanks in advance to anyone who has a clue!

Hmmm, my concern isn't with opening the XMP, it's that the file type seems to have changed and I don't know how that's happening.

  • ALV Export to Microsoft Excel Question

    Hi All,
I know this would be a basic question and I tried searching the forums and did not find any luck. I have implemented the standard ALV and the output is displayed in the table. The standard Export-->Export to Microsoft Excel does not work for me when I click on it. Should I need to enable / trigger this event to make this work?
Also, Is there anyway that I show the Export to Microsoft Excel option directly in the standard ALV instead of clicking on the Export and then Export to Microsoft Excel?
    Thanks,
    Nagarajan.

    Hi Nagarajan,
That is a satandard functionality no coding required. it will work.

  • GL : Default Desktop Viewer

    Hi,
I used my Functional Administrator responsibility to set the GL : Default Desktop Viewer to Excel 97 via Core Services -> Profiles. I then switched to the General Ledger Super User responsibility and was happy to see the Launch Journal Wizard link there - I'm pretty sure it wasn't before but that's irrelevant - but when I tried to create a document I got BNE:EXCEL97 is an invalid Viewer Key for an error. I then used my System Administrator responsibility and went to Profile-> System and set the value for the viewer to Excel 2000 at all levels. When I went back to my GLSU responsibility however, the viewer was still Excel 97. So how did I mess this up? Why can't I change the viewer and why isn't Excel 97 allowed if it's one of the selections?
    TIA,
    George

I did log out log in yesterday, but thought I'd better do it again this morning to insure I'd done as you suggested. Guess what - it's now set to Excel 2000 and that works fine. This kind of begs the question as to why the Excel 98 is included as a selection for setting the profile.
    Thank you very much,
    George
