hi,
Please check whether standard background jobs are scheduled ar not.
if not do it in SM36.
  we have to schedule backups.
database free size can be seen in DB02
if free size is less, add data file
reward points if it is helpfull

our database size is around 50 GB
and log size is around 30 GB
I doubt that something is wrong.
can anyone explain to me what is right and

    Hi Raj,
My database size is about 30GB (3 years of usage) and log file is about 12GB.
My database settings (recomendent by SAP and Early watch) are:
I shrinked database to minimum size and set following settings:
    Database (mdf and ndf):
    - growth activated: checked
    - growth not restricted: checked
    - next step possible: checked
    - next step size: 60MB
    tempdb and log file:
    - growth activated: checked
    - growth not restricted: checked
    - next step possible: checked
    - next step size: 10%

  • Query on Database Size

    Hi all,
I have a question regarding database size of my SAP Instance. My database by the way is Oracle 10g. I used the db02old transaction code. I got the ff: data in the space statistics:
    Scale: Month                                            Database
        Date               Values             SIze/kb                      Free/kb
    01.09.2009         Total            258744,320                 27,741,824
    01.08.2009         Total            258744,320                 30,568,320
    01.07.2009         Total            258744,320                 34,444,288
    01.06.2009         Total            258744,320                 38,159,168
    01.05.2009         Total            247152,640                 29,041,344
    01.04.2009         Total            247152,640                 35,197,184
    01.03.2009         Total            235560,960                 39,262,144
    01.02.2009         Total            205455,360                 14,124,224
    01.01.2009         Total            201175,040                 14,463,168
    01.12.2008         Total            197324,800                 14,466,112
    01.11.2008         Total            193474,560                 14,282,560
    01.10.2008         Total            188907,520                 13,716,736
Note that the size from 01.06.2009 to 01.09.2009 has not changed. Does this mean that my database hasnt grown at all?
How can I determine the exact growth of my database? Im planning to do some projection on how long will it take before my entire disks are consumed so I need to gather some data with respect to my database growth per month.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Sorry for "interrupt" here.
I'd recommend you to read the Oracle Database Concept Guide or go to any initial training (like ADM505)
There you will find out that with "database" Oracle refers to the physical files.
You can create a DB of 1 TB and that will be the database size, regardless of the data that is "inside".
That means that, at the end, you more or less understood.
DB02 shows the database size, not the amount of data that is inside the database

  • Best Trategy to reduce the Database Size

    Hi Everyone,
In our Client's Landscape SAP systems have been upgraded to newer versions whereas our client want
one copy of older Production systems (one copy to retain)
    1) SAP R/3 4.6 C system  (database size of this system is approx 2TB)
    2) SAP BW 3.0 (database size of this system is approx 2TB)
Now CLient wants us to reduce the database size via re-organization because Archiving of IDOCs & Links we have already done
    Client has recommended for :
    1) Oracle Export/Import: Only Oracle DBA can do (ignore this one)
    2) Database Reorganization : We have tried Reoragnization via BRtools but found very tedious 9 (ignore this one)
    3) SAP Export/Import : Via this way we want to reduce the database size
Can anybody Tell us How much Free space do we require in order at OS level in order to store the Database Export
of Two Databases of size around 4TB & what would be the best strategy of reducing the Dabase size.
Via SAP Export/Import how much approx how much database size will be reduced
    Thanks & Regards

    >Can anybody Tell us How much Free space do we require in order at OS level in order to store the Database Export

The only realistic way to know is to do a system copy of the production system on a testbed system and to test the Database Export.
If you really want to decrease the database size you will have to archive a lot more than the IDOC archiving object.

  • How to reduce the database size based on MS SQL/Oracle?

    Hi,
I had deleted severy clients via SCC5, but the database size is more and more bigger. Do you know how to reduce the database size.
my platform is: NT, MS SQL 2005
                           NT, Oracle 10.2
    Best Regards,
    Simon Shen

    Hi Simon,
In the case of SQL you need to check how many space free you have in your datafiles and the based on that you need to Shrink them using DBCC SHRINKFILE command.
Find a couple of reference docs here,
    http://www.intermedia.net/support/kb/default.asp?id=996
    http://doc.ddart.net/mssql/sql70/dbcc_21.htm
Also i'm pretty sure that if your check the properties of the datafiles in MSSQL Enterprise Manager you get a "Shrink" option.

  • Initial Database size in PI 7.1 EHP1

    Hi,
Which is the initial database size of PI 7.1 EHP1 in Windows + Oracle 11 G ??
    After a Pos-instalattion and Sgen.
    Thanks !!

    Hi,
You are correct, Instructor has used SAP PI system ABAP stack to create proxies.
Let me explain you how he has used SAP PI system to illustrate the Direct Connection with in PI itself.
->  Created Proxies both Server and Client in PI itself.
->  Uses Client 200 as SYS1 and SYS2 as 300 (see Receiver Communication Channel creation) other than these, he must
have 001 client for Integration server itself.
->   Executes client proxy from Client 200 and gets data from client 300 as this is the receiver.
->   Used client 200 and 300 as two different ABAP Back end systems (Integration Engines) but they are within PI itself.
->   To create proxy he must have ABAP developer license for client 200.
This never happens in any Implementation Projects, As Rajesh said they will be two different ERP systems which pass through PI.
    Hope you understood now.

  • Rman Backupset size is exceeding the database size

    Hi
my rman backup size is exceeding the database backup size and occupying the full mountpoint. and finally due to space issue, backup is failing.
    Below is the RMAN script
    run {
    backup
    incremental level 0
    tag ASCPLVL0
    database plus archivelog ;
    delete noprompt backupset completed before 'sysdate - 4/24' ;
    Please look into this
    Regards
    M. Satyanvesh

    Are you using compression?
    Ans: No
The size of an RMAN backup isn't always proportional to the size of the database.
Ans: yeah I know, but it should be somewhere near to database size(lets say 100gb or 150 gb variance)
How many archivelogs are you backing up with your database?  This is possibly a factor in the size of your db backup.
Ans: archive log count per day is 18  and size is 34gb
Have you got a retention policy in place and do you regularly delete obsolete backups/archivelogs?
    Ans: yes
Are you taking this backup as part of a backup strategy? or is this just a one off for some other purpose which would seem to be the case.
Ans: This is production systesm so its a part of backup strategy

  • Sudden Increase in database size

    Hi all,
I have noticed sudden increase in sys schema size, after making queries on DBA_TABLESPCAES, DBA_DATA_FILE,
    DBA_EXTENTS,DBA_SEGMENTS.
Does it means Oracle has generated lot of data after queries to these views ?
    It's very urgent .
    Please reply.

    Hi,
Is any application accessing this database? If yes, then did you confirm with the application contact whether any heavy changes have taken place in the application/database? I think that an increase of 300M is not huge but normal/acceptable. However, it is a factor of the actual database size. What is you database size?
    Regards.

  • How to increase database size actually in my company use MSSQL

Can any body tell me how to increase database size actually in my company use MSSQL but i dont know how to increase DB size. in MY PRD system it shows-
    Data Files
    No. of files-4
    Total size(MB)-79,840
    Alocated MB-79,825(99.98%)
    Free MB-15(0.02%)

    total size(MB)-2385
    alocate MB-16
    free-2342
    recovery model-Full
    Reuse wait resion-NOTHING
Now What i do give me suggessin
    Thanks In Advance

    Hi,
you don't have to stop your database to increase the file size - it's an online operation. If you are more familiar with SQL code here is what you have to do:
    use <SID> /*Put your database name here, e.g. PRD*/
    go
    select file_id, name, physical_name, size
    from sys.database_files
    where type_desc = 'ROWS'
In the resultset you will find a column called 'name' - that are the logical file names that we need for the increase. If you have a standard installation the names should look like <SID>DATA{1-4}. Next step ist the actual increase of the files:
    /*Replace <SID> with your DB name*/
    alter database <SID> modify file(name='<SID>DATA1', size=25GB) /*25GB ist just an example*/
    alter database <SID> modify file(name='<SID>DATA2', size=25GB)
    alter database <SID> modify file(name='<SID>DATA2', size=25GB)
    alter database <SID> modify file(name='<SID>DATA4', size=25GB)
Thats it. If you run the first statement again, you will see that the filesize has been increased. You can also check on  filesystem level.

  • Query regarding database reorganization

    Hi All,
I have been asked to reorganize the database( size 220GB Dev, size 460GB Qua, size 500GB Production)
Database is Oracle 10G, SAP version is ECC 6.0.
I tried this via BRtools on a test system(size 130GB,Oracle 10G) and nothing happens.Assuming this,I doubt any change.
However my management is insisting size must decrease by 10 -12 percent.
My query is if I reorganize the database via BRTOOLS what will be the effect on the database size.
No client is deleted on any of the system and no data has been erased by the functional team.
Any suggestion on the same will be a great help to me.
    Regards,
    PG

    Hi,
How much space is liberated after a re-org task is purely subjective ( system load, when the last re-org was run etc). A test system with no user activity cannot form an ideal test-bed for re-org outcome. Rather than looking out for benefit in terms of percentage of space shrunk, you could look at all avenues that can bring down the database size. The following notes might be used as a starting point.
SAP Note 541538 - FAQ: Reorganization
SAP Note 771929 - FAQ: Index fragmentation (Easier than a table re-org task. Can be done online ( before attempting this online, please go through the SAP Hot News announced in SAP Note 1413928 - Index corruption/wrong results after rebuild index ONLINE )
SAP Note 706478 - Preventing Basis tables from increasing considerably (Exectue the SQL query in the note to identify the tables that occupy highest space and look for corresponding solutions in this note for those tables)
Above messages' SAP Data Volume Management guide also has suggestions for triggering archiving/deleting/compressing/avoid growth where necessary
    cheers !

  • Target database size limit to monitor

  • ECC 6.0 Upgrade database size

    Hello,
We are planing to upgrade from 4.7E to ECC 6.0. Our current database size is around 1.5 TB. What is the size of database growth after upgrade? How much diskspace we must reserve for upgrade?
    I appreciate your help
    Thanks,
    Kris

    > We are planing to upgrade from 4.7E to ECC 6.0. Our current database size is around 1.5 TB. What is the size of database growth after upgrade? How much diskspace we must reserve for upgrade?
In my case my Non-unicode DB size is 680GB and after upgrade to Non-unicode ECC 6.0 my DB growth Hardly 20GB.
So its not 3 times of your DB size.
In  case of Conversion from non-Unicode to unicode 4.7 db growth near to 30-40GB and upgrade from Unicode 4.7 to Unicode ECC 6.0 another 30 to 40 GB.
Note : this is with DB SQL server 2005 on Windows 2003 EE.

  • How can we reduce compares Database size in express edition

    Hi,
for client we use SQL server express edition. express edition has limitation of 10GB of database size.
please help me how can we reduce/compares DB size.
    Regards,
    Manish

Data or page compression feature is not available in express edition so you cannot use this feature to help you.
You might be lucky to reclaim space from shrink operation but eventually data file will grow again. So your best bet is using licensed version.

  • Database size by module

    Hi,
ECC 6.0 SR3, ASCII, Solaris 10 SPARC, Oracle 10.2.0.4 with 1,7 TB database size. We would plan a new archive project to reduce db size.
Is it possible to know (a graphic should be OK) database size by module? It's important for us know FI, MM, SD database usage. We already know how to check table db usage.
    Thank you for attention.
    Regards.
    Ganimede Dignan.

    > Is it possible to know (a graphic should be OK) database size by module? It's important for us know FI, MM, SD database usage. We already know how to check table db usage.
    Not really that easy.
A SAP system is a highly integrated system, so where would you e. g. put the "material master"? it is used by all "modules" and not only for itself.
You can, use transaction ST14 to check the number of entries in each module, however, this will not be the "net" free space you will get.

  • Database Size Estimation

Is there a method available by which I can benchmark whether my database growth size is appropriate or not. As of now my database size is growing at an average of 20GB per month which I caonsider to be excessive. Please guide.

    Hi Deepak,
You may want to understand first where the growth is from - which table space and which table?  As mentioned by Markus, you can use DBA Cockpit to monitor your database.  You can use the historical data in DBA Cockpit to see what's the delta change for tables/tablespaces and sort by the largest differences.
Have you also checked the High Water Mark (HWM) of the table spaces?  If not you may need to use a combination of db2dart /rhwn or /lhwm and offline table REORG to reduce them(OSS Note 152531 and 486559).   As update/insert/delete goes on, there is a lot of "holes" in the table spaces, these "holes" may make your table spaces bigger than it needs.
    I hope it helps.

    -Beck
