Defining Business Operations calling remote EJBs

We would like to define business operations in WLI calling EJBs on a remote machine.
It seems like the EJB have to be deployed locally to appear in the (JNDI) drop-down
list when defining the business operation.
Is the only way to achieve this functionality to write (or generate) some kind
of wrapper EJB that will be deployed locally, or do you have other suggestions?
Regards,
E
PS: We're using WLI 2.1 running on WLS 6.1 SP1

I am new to WLPI and have run across this problem as well. Could you
provide more detail your proxy session bean and maybe include some
example code? Thanks.

Rick H.

I have come accross the same problem - solved it by using a "proxy" session
bean
that knows how to call out to all the Remote EJBS that I need. This "proxy"
session
bean is deployed with wlpi application.

  • Defining Business Operations using remote session EJBs for WLI2.1

    Hello all,
    I'm having a deployment issue with WLI 2.1. Is it true that in order to define
    a Business Operation in WLI 2.1 that uses a session EJB, the EJB MUST be deployed
    in the same JNDI tree (WLS instance) that WLI is running on? Is everyone just
    running one admin server that hosts WLI and all other applications on the same
    instance?
    I'd like to have WLI running on one machine and have my applications running on
    another, but at this point seems unobtainable because you cant supply a t3 URL
    to that separate machine when defining Business Operations...
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Jon

    The procedure apex_cdc.enable_table_capture i created myself with no authid mentioned explicitly, so it uses definer rights, by default.
    BUt this procedure is simply a wrapper for sys.dbms_cdc_publish.create_change_table.
    When I look on the security model for this sys.dbms_cdc_publish, i see it runs under invoker rights. (http://www.psoug.org/reference/dbms_cdc_publish.html).
    The code is like this:

  • Calling remote EJB from Weblogic 8.1 to websphere 5.1

    Hi, I'm trying to get a connection from my weblogic 8.1 to a EJB in a websphere 5.1
    I'm connecting via IIOP without seurity, first I have a problem with the connection, in the server log appears:
    <b>java.net.UnknownHostException: remoteDNS:remoteDNS</b>
    but, it appears not at the beginning the connection, it appears when the EJB I've called, returns me the method I invoked and my weblogic didn't recognize the remote server because it have to return a DNS or IP: port and it doesn't occour, I'm not behind a FW.
    Then I made modifications to the sever I register some websphere jars in the classpath but when I made this another problem become, the log shows me a message that says that the initialcontext class could not be loaded, and when I modified the classpath to recognize this the other parts of my site breakdown because their initialcontext were different.
    Basically, I want some help in How to make the connection to websphere via IIOP or another protocol and what are the requeriments that I need to modify in my Weblogic, and in my class of connection.
    I almost tried to make a network channel to comunicate to the websphere but it didn't work.
    Can anybody give me suggestions on what to try??
    Thanks

    I believe there is a document that describes this.
    Java EE 4 interop requires that you do not need to put WebSphere
    ORB/ICF classes in your WLS classpath and vice versa. You should
    simply be able to make EJB refs to the remote side using an
    appropriate corbaloc URL.
    Can you post your EJB config and code?

  • Unable to find business operation

    Hi all:
    I am using WLPI 1.2.1.
    I have a workflow whose start node is of "Timed" type i.e it triggers at regular
    intervals. The first business operation that I perform after I have executed the
    start node is an operation on the Java Class. This Java class has been added as
    one of the business operations to the WLPI and appears as such in the BUSINESSOPERATIONS
    table.
    The problem I am running into is that when I start my server and the triggerring
    of my workflow happens, I get an exception saying that "business operation bcLatchClosedCreate
    can't be found" where "bcLatchClosedCreate" is the name of my business operation.
    The Java Class which is accessed through this business operation is a public class
    and I have defined business operation to instantiate and call methods on it. As
    soon as this exception occurs the record (which tells what is the next time for
    trigger) is deleted from the TIMEDEVENT table and no futher triggering of this
    workflow occurs.
    However, if I resave this workflow, triggering starts again and everything is
    fine. The business is found and no exception occurs. It is only at the start of
    the server that I have the problem which essentially renders the workflow useless
    as no triggering happens in future.
    Is there is nay programmatic way to start and stop the automatic triggering of
    a timed workflow.
    Following is the exception:

  • ViewController to call deployed EJB JAR on WLS

    Hi,
    I have Model project containing EJB deployed into WLS as EJB JAR file.
    I need to create another application for the View and reference the deployed EJB JAR.
    The idea is to call remote EJB without having and any project dependencies.
    Can you please advice on how it can be done.
    Thank you in advance
    Emile

    Hi Frank,
    The Model is only EJB.
    The View only contains ADF Faces (no bindings , no page def , no datacontrol).
    Please consider it as urgent
    Thank you for your reply

  • Defining Multiple operations for async calls in OSB

    Hi,
    I have three Asynchronous BPEL processes- BPELProcessA, BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC
    I am trying to invoke BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC from BPELProcessA through an OSB Proxy service. I want to use a single proxy service to make calls to BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC from BPELProcessA . To do this I defined multiple operations in the wsdl of the proxy service. This is not working
    But I am able to implement the following
    1. If BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC are Synchronous, I am able to invoke BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC by defining multiple operations in the proxy service wsdl
    2. I am able to invoke and receive response from 1 Asynchronous BPEL process by defining 1 operation in the proxy service wsdl. I followed the approach described at [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13159_01/osb/docs10gr3/bpelpmtransport/transport.html#wp1111338]. Does this mean for each asynchronous BPEL, I need a separate pair of OSBs for each async process ( 1 for request and 1 for callback)?
    Has anyone tried invoking multiple asynchronous processes by defining multiple operations in the wsdl?
    Kindly request every to give inputs

    Hi Eric
    Below is the flow and error we are getting:
    ProcessA is calling ProcessB and ProcessC through common OSB. In OSB we have created individual business services for ProcessB and ProcessC.I am using common Proxy service for calling these two Business Services using different operations.I have created one callback business service and Proxy service for ProcessA.
    I am successfully able to call BPEL processes, ProcessB and ProcessC, but during callback client activity these two BPEL processes are failing with below error and ProcessA is going in waiting on receive activity state:

    Did you update the config.xml to add the EJBComponent element for your EJB
    to the WLI application? This must be done by hand.

    2) The EJB is deployed as part of the WLI application (the EJB jar is inthe %WLI_HOME%\lib

    The complete problem you watch http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=768718&messageID=4387570#4387570
    or
    http://forums.bea.com/bea/message.jspa?messageID=600043148&tstart=0

    Your code in SigemFacadeBean should just do:
    InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
    when you lookup the local EJB. (This will work on all app servers. There's no need to put an app-server specific intial context factory in your code.)
    Also, you can remove the jndi-name setting for the local ejb from your weblogic-ejb-jar.xml. jndi-name is only applied to remote ejbs.

  • Problem calling a method in a servlet witch returns remote ejb

    Hi, I have a problem combining servlets ands ejbs, I expose my problem :
    What I have :
    1 . I have a User table into a SGBD with two attributes login and pass.
    2 . I have a UserBean linked to User table with a remote interface
    3 . I have a stateless UserSessionBean with a remote interface
    4 . I have a UserServlet linked to a jsp page which allows me to add users
    5 . I use Jboss
    What is working ?
    1 - I have a method newUser implemented in my UserSessionBean :
    public class UserSessionBean implements SessionBean {
      private SessionContext sessionContext;
      private UserRemoteHome userRemoteHome;
      public void ejbCreate() throws CreateException {
      // Initialize UserRemoteHome
      // Method to add a new user
      public UserRemote newUser(String login, String password) {
            UserRemote newUser = null;
            try {
                newUser = userRemoteHome.create(login, password);
            } catch (RemoteException ex) {
                System.err.println("Error: " + ex);
            } catch (CreateException ex) {
                System.err.println("Error: " + ex);
            return newUser;
    }2 - When I test this method with a simple client it works perfectly :
    public class TestEJB {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Context initialCtx;
            try {
                // Create JNDI context
                // Context initialization
                // Narrow UserSessionHome
                // Create UserSession
                UserSession session = sessionHome.create();
                // Test create
                UserRemote newUser = session.newUser("pierre", "hemici");
                if (newUser != null) {
                    System.out.println(newUser.printMe());
            } catch (Exception e) {
                System.err.println("Error: " + e);
                e.printStackTrace();
    Result : I got the newUser printed on STDOUT and I check in the User table (in the SGBD) if the new user has been created.
    What I want ?
    I want to call the newUser method from the UserServlet and use the RemoteUser returned by the method.
    What I do ?
    The jsp :
    1 - I have a jsp page where a get information about the new user to create
    2 - I put the login parameter and the password parameter into the request
    3 - I call the UserServlet when the button "add" is pressed on the jsp page.
    The Servlet :
    1 - I have a method doInsert which call the newUser method :
    public class UserServlet extends HttpServlet {
        private static final String CONTENT_TYPE = "text/html";
        // EJB Context
        InitialContext ejbCtx;
        // Session bean
        UserSession userSession;
        public void init() throws ServletException {
            try {
                // Open JNDI context (the same as TestClient context)
                // Get UserSession Home
                // Create UserSession
                userSession = userSessionHome.create();
            } catch (NamingException ex) {
                System.out.println("Error: " + ex);
            } catch (RemoteException ex) {
                System.out.println("Error: " + ex);
            } catch (CreateException ex) {
                System.out.println("Error: " + ex);
        protected void service(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp) throws
                ServletException, IOException {
         * Does insertion of the new user in the database.
        public void doInsert(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp) throws
                ServletException, IOException {
            try {
                // Get parameters to create the newUser
                String login = req.getParameter("login");
                String password = req.getParameter("password");
               // Create the newUser
                System.out.println("Calling newUser before");
                UserRemote user = userSession.newUser(login, password);
                System.out.println("Calling newUser after");
            } catch (Exception e) {
        // Clean up resources
        public void destroy() {
    Result :
    When I run my jsp page and click on the "add" button, I got the message "Calling newUser before" printed in STDOUT and the error message :

    Constat :
    I checked into my SGBD and the new user has been created.
    The error appears only when the method return Remote ejbs, if I return simples objects (Strings, int..) it works.
    What can I do to resolve this problem ?
    Thank you.

    "Why do you want to servlet to gain access to another EJB through the stateless session bean. Why cant the servlet call it directly ?"
    Because I want to access to the informations included in the entity bean UserBean (which is remote).
    You said that it is a bad design, but how can I access to my UserBean ejbs from the session bean if I don't do that ?
    For example I want a List of all users to be seen in a jsp page :
    1 - I call the method getUserList which returnsan ArrayList of UserRemote.
    2 - I iterate over the ArrayList to get the users parameters to be seen.
    As the other example (newUser), when I do
    ArrayList users = (ArrayList) userSession.getUserList(); with the simple client it works, but in the servlet I got the same error.
    But, if I call directly the findAll method (as you'are saying) in the servlet
    ArrayList users = (ArrayList) userRemoteHome.findAll(); it works...
    I think that if my servlet calls directly entity ejbs, I don't need UserSession bean anymore. Is that right ?
    I precise that my design is this :
    jsp -> servlet -> session bean -> entity bean -> sgbd
    Is that a bad design ? Do I need the session bean anymore ?
    Thank you.

  • Simplest way to restrict access to remote EJB calls

    I'm using weblogic 10.3 and I'm new to security in weblogic. I was looking at the documentation at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs103/ConsoleHelp/taskhelp/security/ManageSecurityForDD.html
    but got a little overwhelmed by the many options on how to implement security. Plus, I am getting confused between JDNI security and EJB Layer security (they're not the same thing, right?)
    Can someone explain what the simplest way would be to prevent an "unauthorized" client to make remote EJB calls? For example, I know of the ConnectionFilters that you can implement, which can prevent remote callers from making T3 or IIOP calls if they're not from an authorized IP, etc. This is a good start but ideally I would want to password protect the EJBs, and any EJB client would have to provide this username/password somehow. Or possibly use two-way SSL for t3? The client app would have to provide a certificate to prove that it's trusted.
    To be clear, I don't think I need weblogic to handle any fine-grained access control. I just want to make sure that the client (e.g., a webapp) is a trusted one. Once the EJB container is satisfied that the client is trusted (preferably by user/pass) then the client is free to execute any EJB methods.
    Thanks in advance.

    I'm don't think you can do a posture check by MAC address.  If you're using SSLVPN, and you're running Windows,  you can do a Host Scan check for the following registry key:
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Domain
    Then set up a Pre-Login policy that goes Windows->Registry Check->Success->RegCheckOK
                                                                                                         |->Fail->RegCheckFail
    At this point you've just verified that you can read that key and the value is stored for later use.  You're not making an allow/deny decision yet.
    Then in your Dynamic Access policy you do a Policy check for Location=RegCheckFail, that says "Unable to read registry".  The following DAP policy check looks for Location=RegCheckOK, and validates that the value is your AD domain.
    Alternatively, you could put a NAC box (ISE or Clean Access) 'behind/after' the VPN box, so although anyone can connect only domain machines (and/or whatever other posture checks you want to make, e.g. Antivirus status) make it through to the rest of the network.

  • Unable to call the EJB in remote machine --Please HELP

    Hi Gurus,
    I have deployed my EJB ear (EJB 3.0 we use) in a cluster with two managed servers where as the WEB is in a stand alone server.
    When I try to hot the web, it is not able to access the remote EJB and throws error.
    Whereas, when I add the weblogic appc generated stubs of that EJB jar to the web ear and deploye the web ear, then it responds fine..
    Do someone have any reason behind this? Or any better solution to this.
    I badly need a solution ,...
    Pleaseeee

  • How to use application to call a remote EJB?

    this is my code:
    package test;
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    import javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject;
    import java.util.*;
    import test.HelloWorldHome;
    import test.HelloWorld;
    public class callremoteEjb{
         public String callejb(){
              try{
                   Properties env = new Properties();
                   System.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost", "202.120.80.219");
              System.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort", "7001");
              env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
                             "com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory");
              env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://202.120.80.219:7001");
                   Context initial = new InitialContext(env);
                   Object objref = initial.lookup("HelloWorldBean");
                   HelloWorldHome home = (HelloWorldHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(
                                                      objref,HelloWorldHome.class);
                   HelloWorld helloBean = home.create();
                   return helloBean.sayHello();
              }catch(Exception ex){
                   ex.printStackTrace();
              return "aaa";
         public static void main(String[] args){
              callremoteEjb testejb = new callremoteEjb();
              System.out.println(testejb.callejb());
    i ' ve success deploy the EJB in the remote server.
    but it run error : " Can't find SerialContextProvider "
    how should i do?

    There is a sample called rmi-iiop. It has a Java applicationclient that talks to a remote ejb. Pl have a look at that.
