Degrading performance of transport import

Hi all,
The transport is taking a lot longer than usual.
When checking in OS level, I couldn't list the file in /usr/sap/trans/data directory.
It hang after executed command "ls" in directory "/usr/sap/trans/data"  It has around 1.5 million files (check with transaction ls -ld
Could this be the reason of the transport bottleneck?
Thanks.

To resolve transport related issues, check upon the below mentioned points
1) RDD* jobs are running or not in your SAP system.
2) At least one background job should be available.
3) Check the STMS consistency check.
4) You have to make sure your file system( Trans directory) should have enough space.
5) You have to make sure TP process is running at OS level.
And also check the logs at trans directory.
Have more number of files in the trans directory may not be the actual reason for your transport being slow.
Hope this answers your query.

  • Transport import quue

    Hi everybody,
I'm experiencing a problem with transport import queue. So I hope somebody have an idée what’s wrong. When I make a transport on DEV, it appears in de import queue (I can see it in SAP and on OS level). After I refresh the import queue I still can see my transport on the OS level but it disappears in SAP.
The same happened when I tried with “tp addtobuffer….”. In the Import Overview screen I see that my transport is added to the queue. But when I go to Import Queue screen I got message that import queue is empty.
Strange is that I don’t get any error messages and in all log files I don’t see any errors.
    Any ideas?

    Hello Mustafa,
Can be an issue with mounts as well as file permissions as has been pointed out already to you.
    Please check both the things.
Best thing is logon into QAS system and go to AL11.  Then go to /usr/sap/trans/data and /usr/sap/trans/cofile directories and check if you can find the data files and co files for the transports. If you are able to find then check if you are able to read the contents. If you can not find the files or are not able to read the contents then it is an issue with file permissions or mount.
    Regards.

  • Transport Import History save to spread sheet

    Hi,
I have successfully saved the Transport import history as a spreadsheet.
    i.e. System > List > save > local file > Spreadsheet
However, the Return code column is blank? Probably becuase the image did not convert to text?
Does anyone maybe know what I can try to get the return code populated next to the transport in the spreadsheet?
    Kind Regards,
    Chris

    Juan, Thanks for the info.
I have also found this table to be very useful - TPALOG.
From this table I was able to extract the import history of the system I was looking for as well as the return code.

  • Degraded performance.

Has anyone noticed degraded performance when enabling 802.11n with support for G? The reason for asking is all my wireless workstations are running 802.11n with the exception of my iPhone. I also want to get a wireless all-in-one printer/scanner which I can only find support for B/G wireless networks, not 802.11n. Can anyone recommend an all-in-one printer/scanner that supports 802.11n for use with Apple's AEBS router?

That would be "normal" as the best you can expect in a mixed radio mode is 100 - 130 Mbps for your "n" devices. If you want to take advantage of "n" speed, you would either need to set up a "Dual-Band" network or remove any non-"n" devices from your current network.

  • Export backup degrades performance?

    Hi all,
Please suggest me if i take export backup of the database does it degrades performance of the database when the applications are connected?
Can this export be done while application is using the database?
Is there any risk concerning performance of the application during DB export?
    Thank you.

An export is a query against the database. Generally, a query to extract the whole schema or whole table (or whole database). It has the same performance impact as any query doing FullTableScans against the tables being exported.
Note :If you do an export using 'exp', ensure that you use "CONSISTENT=Y" or "FLASHBACK_SCN" or "FLASBACK_TIME" to get consistency across tables, else exp does Table-level consistency.
With 'expdp' you can use FLASHBACK_SCN or FLASHBACK_TIME

  • Will more number of waiting threads in thread pool degrade performance?

    Hi,
I use thread pool and set the maximum number of threads to execute. My problem is, the thread pool initiates the number of threads and these threads wait until they get a work. Will this degrade the performance (The threads do I/O operations) ??

Threads waiting for work will not degrade performance. If your work involves those threads waiting for I/O then that in itself will not degrade performance either (as long as they block and don't poll of course).
All live threads consume resources however so if you are short on threads or memory then don't create too many of them.
Pre-starting a large number of threads in a pool can cause a startup delay of course. Generally you should let the pool create threads as needed until it gets to the core pool size.

  • Process Chain Transport import error

    Hi
I created a Process chain with Start variant "Start Using Meta Chain or API" and collected all the objects of process chain  in a transport request
The Transport import failed with RC 8 error
    Error Log:

Please update me what  is the reason of error and how to resolve this
    Thanks

It sounds to me like process chain (PC) that's starts up PC that you trying to transport is not present in target system yet ?
Might be that there is a link between them...

  • Encounters Open Conversions when performing Application ServiceTools import

    Hi,
I am trying to apply Application Servicetools for R/3 46C - 01L_R3_46C into our Production system and I encounter Open Conversions in the ABAP Dictionary. Apparently, An index exists in the database but not in ABAP Dictionary and stop me from progressing.
It advises me to proceed as follows:
    Open a new session
Start the Database Utility (txn SE14)
Correct the inconsistencies for the specific objects
Repeat the import phase. If no more inconsistencies are found, the import continues
    My question is:
    1. Do I perform 'Activate and adjust database' in txn SE14 for this case?
    2. Is there any risk or issues if I were to delete this index at the Oracle level?
This is a Production system and I am unable to simulate in other servers. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Annie

Reply from SAP and I confirm the transport works successfully after performing the below steps.
"Please check table LIKP in SE14, are both Database object check and
Runtime Object check are consistent? If so this entry can be deleted by:SE14->menu DB Request/created with import->select the entry and delete.
Then continue with SAINT, let me know if there's still a problem"

  • Performance Appraisal - Transports

    Hello Experts!
I am wondering about best practices involved in building performance appraisals.  I know that you can use a transport function for performance appraisals, however it does not really work well for me.  When I attach Category Groups (VB) to transports, it transports just fine to our test client, but when I attach Appraisal Template (VA) to transports, it does not show up in PHAP_CATALOG.  Therefore I have had to manually configure the template in the test client.  Is this a standard procedure?
    Thank you,
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
Do not upload the templates manually instead the Category alone has to be created manually and then import the templates from the transport request.
I had the same issue and tried doing this way and it worked out..
    Hope this helps you.
    Regards,
    Subbu.

  • Fixing standard transport import job

    Hi,
We have R/3, APO and B/W.
In R/3 and APO, when we move batches of transports from QA to Staging(STMS_QA) everything is fine.
But in the past we sometime experimented problem when doing the same in B/W. Somebody once told us that when you move many transports together, the standard import job perform first step for all transports then 2nd step for all of them, etc......
This is no problem for R/3 and APO, but we were told that does not always work in B/W. Because of that, we change our process for B/W. We run STMS_QA and the import job, one transport after the other. Since the import job is scheduled every 15 minutes, if we have 8 transports to move, it will take 2 hours to perform them all.
I was ask to write a job that would do this automatically, then replacing the standard import job.
Then I'm saying to myself: we are not the only ones to move transports in batch in the world? Do everybody reinvent the wheel each time like I am about to do?
Can somebody give me some thought over this? Any suggestion?
    Thank you!

Discussion successfully moved from SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) to SAP NetWeaver Administrator where it belongs.
Your recent question posted in SCN SAP Transportation Management community is in the wrong place.  SAP TM is devoted to the SAP application which manages the physical movement of goods using trucks, trains, planes, and ships.  What you posted regarding software changes from one system to another (Dev to QA, for example) should be in the Netweaver Administrator community.  Please use the correct community in the future.

  • Performance Issue in Import

    Hi,
I have an import format where i am trying to import using an import integration script. the source is an Oracle database. While the import works OK when the record number is 100-200, the performance goes down when the count becomes 1000. for 3000 odd records FDM takes 30 minutes to load. for 10,000+ the application hangs.
I have checked the database setting for the FDM application and found that there are no separate tablespaces for data segement tables and work tables. all of them use the same table space. Could this be the only cause?? what other thing can I look at?
Also, I did some checks and foud that while the data s getting read properly in the recordset (rsAppend), the load to worktable is not happening. based on this I suspect that its a database set-up issue
Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated
    -Shantanu

    Hello Shantanu,
I personally use integration scripts into the 100k+ rows without issues. My imports take roughly 22 minutes. There must either be something with your script and how you are using it or as you suspected with your database.
At this point if you think it is a database issue I would encourage you to engage your DBA for tuning, packet tracing, and Oracle stats reports. Also please keep in mind that if the database isn't in the same datacenter then it might not be either the script or the database but the WAN performance.
    Thank you,
