Delays in BT Infinity activation...clueless about ...

Hi all
My BT Inifinty was supposed to be axtivated on Wednesday night. I seem to have FTTP, with an OpenReach white color box installed inside the flat. I received the Hub5 on Wednesday afternoon, and as per instructions plugged it into the OpenReach box. 
However, midnight Wednesday came and went by, and the Hub5 still glows orange. No blue light in sight. 
The order status says this: "There is a delay to the provision of your Broadband order which we are currently investigating with our suppliers. We will keep you informed of any progress, please keep checking online for further updates."
I called BT, and they said that OpenReach is having issues in settiing up my service, and that they are working on it. 
I checked with my buildings conceirge, and they said that almost every day they see a BT engineer coming here to do their magic. My query is that does my account also need an engineer to visit the building, and do something in the BT room in the basement? When i talk to customer service they keep telling me that an engineer appointment is not required...very confused...

First, it's FTTC not FTTP.
The fibre goes to the cabinet and copper wire to the house.
If you have a Home Hub 5, remove the white Openreach box and connect the DSL line directly to the Home Hub 5's DSL port.
The issue is probably with the equipment in your house not communicating with the equipment in the cabinet correctly.
N.B. The instructions provided with the Hub 5 are incorrect regarding the usage of the white Openreach modem. It's not required as the hardware needed for FTTC conversion is built into the Hub.

    Hello all,
    Please help!!
    As part of a house move I had the opportunity to upgrade from standard broadband to Infinity....Initially my activation date was 7th April 2014, and my TV and landline were both completed on that day.  Infinity activation was put back to 14th April, and I got the text and email yesterday to say it was all ready.
    I set up the HomeHub 5 as per the instructions and got the orange power light with flashing red broadband light. I tried restarting/resetting the homehub a few times with no luck, so decided to wait until after midnight.
    Tried again today, same issues.  Called up and spoke to someone in India, hoping for a quick fix, but could only stay on the phone for 30mins or so before heading to work.  On the phone I basically got talked through all the usual stuff that I had already tried - restarting, resetting, check the socket, all of those seem to be fine.
    Can anyone help me?  It's already been over a week since I was supposed to be up and running and it's now getting very frustrating!

  • BT infinity activation

    I was due to have an engineer cone to set up my infinity today arriving between 1-6. At 6pm they still hadn't showed so I contacted BT and was on the phone to them for 90 minutes trying to sort it out, they informed me that the engineer had phoned and supposedly I had told them everything was sorted out and didn't need them when looking into this more it showed they had actually contacted a different person not me. I asked when they would send an engineer out and was told a new appointment would need to be made, however I took today of work for this appointment and am due to go holiday next week so could end up having to wait 4weeks. Has anyone else had the problem and what was the result, seriously contemplating going back to sky. first day with BT and already having problems, great customer services there providing, not impressed,

    I just wanted to post here to recount my experiences of trying to have infinity activated in my apartment. I have explored every other avenue to try and resolve this issue but to date no progress has been made.
    My partner and I have sent emails, spent at least 10 hours cumulatively on the phone with support and have waited around the house for 3 failed appointments! Only one of these bothered to send any form of notification that they wouldn't arrive. Which is the very minimum one would expect. That's 3 days off work for my partner and since she is working on a temporary contract basis, 3 days of lost wages.
    I really cannot express how frustrated I am with the whole process. Support have been no help whatsoever. Yesterday we were told there is an issue with our line which needs to be resolved before this can proceed. No one could explain when that might be, what the issue was, why we were sent the equipment and given an appointment or most importantly, why we weren't informed of the error before taking the days off work?
    Despite assurances, an engineer has failed to show up again today and we did not receive the promised call from support. It's been nearly 4 weeks now without any resolution or explanation from BT. I've lost all faith in the company and unless I am contacted between now and then, I am going to cancel my order as soon as I get home from work. I just thought I'd share my experience and maybe get some explanation for why we've had to waste so much time and money on this.

    I have spoken to Apple engineers in-store and via phone support and nobody seems to know how to do it, in fact the guys at the retail store were not even aware that the option for secure erase has been disabled for macs with SSD running Lion. Now im aware that some people will say this is to protect the lifetime of the SSD, but this is irrelevant as Apple SSD's running Lion has TRIM utility. Furthermore to save people's time you cannot do it by externalling booting or by holding down C or CMD+R !
    So, has anyone got a simple method for this, it cant be impossible !
    Please help

  • Noisy line after infinity activated

    Hi, I had infinity installed & activated whilst I was away on holiday. On my return I picked up my phone to make a phone call and the line was very noisy (it was clear before infinity activated, on our old broadband).
    I have plugged my phone into the socket directly and the line is clear. It is only when I plug an ADSL filter in that the line is noisy, with or without the modem plugged in. I have tried three different phones, including a brand new BT phone, 6 ADSL filters and 1 filtered face plate, but am still getting a very noisy unusable line.
    I contacted 151 and they are insisting that there is not a fault on my line and have told me that I may have a charge of £129.99 if my home equipment is faulty although I cannot see how 3 phones and 7 filters can all be faulty! It is only since infinity activated that I have had this problem.I have an engineer booked for tomorrow (Thursday), but just wondered if anyone has any ideas what this could be. Thanks

    I have set up the avdf for evaluation. The activity report has detect the sql but it has a delay about 3 min that is after the sql statement is submitted. I need to wait about 3 min for the report to show up. Is there a way to reduce the dealy and make it more real time?

    We are currently using AV with EBS 11i and wanted to know if the new version has any new features through which we can audit EBS database . I know that AV can audit any database and EBS database falls under that category.
    for example, we would like to know the application user who modified a system profle in EBS .
    I was reading Steven Chan's blog (http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2009/11/data_protection_security_ebs_openworld.html) and this mentions about setting client identifer for EBS , but that is planned.
    do you know when that would be available .
    Also are there any specific patches planned for integrating AV with EBS.

    It's my own fault for not making a copy of the activation page when we first got greenlighted, but delays came down the pipe and now I've got an iTunes U site with no way to authenticate. Whoops.

    Yes, if that person works for Apple.
    Usually, each school is assigned an account rep and service engineer. Both are usually shared with other schools. My current rep (Chicago area) is Ty Beckmann ... and before Ty, (the venerable) Jack McLaughlin was our Apple contact. My current service engineer is Mike Miley (the god of all things video). I know some of the other engineers from the midwest ... Keith Mountin, Bill Duff, Bob Frank, Dale Carlson, Jerry Darling ... all of them are great guys. I've spoken to some other reps from around the country ... and I know a couple of the national people.
    William, if you say where your from, it might help the reps who read these forums figure out whom you should contact. It might also be that Duncan fixes you up first (Duncan is the Apple's iTunes U guy in the forums). Someone from Apple will look out for you if they know your location/school.

  • Infinity activation date passed. Tearing hair out.

    My BT Infinity 1 activation date was supposed to be the 9th October. The hub arrived 2 days before the activation date which was a comfort at the time.
    I contacted BT by phone on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th, Monday 13th and again today.
    EVERY time I get transfered to the right person they say they'll have to call me back in 5 minutes which doesn't happen. This has happened 8 times. The last time I contacted someone I stressed that nobody had ever call back, to which he said he would definately call me back before 5pm (which was in 4 hours time) - this never happened.
    I'm tearing my hair out.

  • Purchased Mountain Lion, but it is stuck on download with no activity for about half an hour.  What next?

    Purchased Mountain Lion via App store but it appears to be stuck in download with no activity for over half an hour and no error messages. The download bar shows the download at about 1/20th for about half an hour as well.  I had what appeared to be disk corruption.  I used OS CD to repair - indicated successful. When I rebooted again the system showed the spinning icon again.  I read that I should not install Mountain Lion if my disk still has errors.  I'm not sure what my next steps should be?

    Sign out of the Mac App Store.
    Sign back in.
    Restart the Download.
    Sounds like you repaired whatever disk issues there was, you should be fine. Its now a matter of obtaining the install.

  • Time Machine clueless about external HD connected to Airport Extreme

    This is not my first post about HD connected to Airport Extreme. Just came back from Apple store. Spoke to Geniuses there in tech support desk and they are clueless.
    Here is situation: have 7 Macs in the house connected to Airport Extreme wirelessly. In that respect things are working fine. Last week I purchased brand new WD My Book external HD and connected it to Airport Extreme using USB (it also has Fire Wire but that is not a point here).
    As per forum advices I re-formated drive using disk utility to Mac Extended journaled, GUID. here is result:
    iMAC x 3, with Tiger - see, mount and use My Book easily, shows on desktop as mounted drive
    MacBook Pro w. Tiger - same as above, back up every day to My Book
    MacBook with Leopard x 2 - no My Book on desktop, Time Machine doesn't see it
    Mac Mini with Leopard - same as above, no trace of My Book, Time Machine doesn't see it
    * This problem evolved from me having regular 160 GB FAT32 HD connected to Airport Extreme. Again Tiger machines were using that drive every day no sweat.
    * Then I decided to upgrade all Macs to Leopard for one single reason only - Time Machine. (Good that I didn't do it but rather decided to introduce new, bigger and better USB drive first).
    * Western Digital My Book is being sold in Apple stores as "drive that is recognized by Time Machine" so I bought 1TB unit.
    * All Macs and Airport Extreme are up to date.

    I cannot tell you why your Apple Genius told you what he did, but he/she was dead wrong. Apple sells its Time Capsule product, so they are not interested in making the AEBS a product competitor.
    I will give you a little secret for which you will forever be indebted to me.
    Open your Terminal application in the Utilities folder and at the prompt enter or paste the following command pressing RETURN after:
    defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
    Miraculously your problem will be Solved.

  • Is there a way to put a slight delay into hot corner activation?

    I have my hot corners set up for Spaces, Expose, DashBoard etc. I find it pretty frustrating that I momentarily invoke a hot corner action every time I go for the Apple menu, or the trash, or something on the far left side of my over-populated dock. It's especially annoying when DashBoard kicks in doing this. I assume Apple made a user selectable delay on spring loaded folders to avert similar frustrations.
    Is there some 'defaults write com.apple.blah...' command that fixes this?

    I don't know of a delay function, but you can add a modifier key to the activation.
    In the System Preferences, while you are setting up that corner for activation, press the modifier key (e.g., shift) then select the function (e.g., spaces). To use it, you'd have to have the modifier key pressed BEFORE you move the mouse to that corner for activation to work.

  • Mobile account login delay when offline from Active Directory

    We're getting a few MacBook Pros setup with our AD domain. All is well while on the network, but when traveling, it takes our users about 20-30 seconds to login, presumably because the client is trying to authenticate against a domain controller. Accounts are setup as mobile accounts so the credentials are cached locally.
    It's frustrating that a solution isn't more readily published by Apple given how common a use case this is. It shouldn't be buried somewhere in a forum.

    I figured it was because AD was somehow being looked up. I got it nailed down the the wireless connection. Turning off the AirPort connection is not a viable option as not all users are savvy enough, or remember to turn it off before taking their laptop home. One instructor was setup this way and she's isn't happy with the "resolve".
    On further research, I have determined a plausible solution, at least with Mac OS 10.4.7. I haven't tested anything earlier. Open the System Preferences and then Network. Show the AirPort configuration, then click on the Option button located next the checkbox to show the AirPort status in the menu bar. There's a checkbox in there to "Disconnect from wireless networks when I log out." By checking this, the wireless connection will be disconnected but the card will remain on. This will force the computer to use the cached credentials on log in. When the user logs in, the computer will attempt to reestablish a connection with the wireless network.
    I'll let you know if this works with other Macs as well.

    Sorry I am a bit clueless. I Have an iMac G5 and just purchased a Western Digital elements external HD to store my music and photos on. I plugged it in and see the icon -now what? do I just start dragging things over? Once I drag thing over should I keep a copy on my Hard drive? Do I unplug this thing when it is not in use?
    Any info would be great! Sorry I lack the knowledge and I hope someone can help me out!

    Use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to erase it in the Mac OS Extended format, and then follow the instructions here and here. Drag the disk to the Trash or push the eject button to the right of it in the sidebar before unplugging it.
