Delete InfoCube Index Question

Hi,
Before my data loads I have always dropped InfoCube Indexes.  I recently Partitioned our largest InfoCube and now it seems that dropping the indexes takes forever so now I can't really drop the indexes during our daytime loads because it would take too long to delete and rebuild the indexes on this InfoCube.
Does anyone know if this is normal behavior for a partitioned InfoCube to take so long to drop and rebuild indexes?
Thanks for any ideas or thoughts!

Hey Kenneth,
Since you stated that this infocube was large, and you recently partitioned it, make sure you compress your requests . Also consider compressing with zero elimination as much as possible - this will reduce data size for indexing.
How big is the DB server this is running on?  Are the DBAs looking at DB settings regarding this which could impact index creation time, e.g. ora init settings, temp space, index tablespaces, etc.
You might also need to delete unused indexes which are still existing on your cube.
Also, these index rebuilds should be running with No logging specified - which is default. But it might help to check and confirm once.
Other than this, OSS note 323090 might be worth checking for you.
Hope this helps!
Thanks,
Sheen

    Hi Bhargava,
Yes i have checked create index (batch) in performance tab last week, bcos i've faced same problem last week  ,so i thought of creating the index again and that did'nt work. And i went for repair indexes(immediately) and that too did'nt work ,the job got cancelled in SM 37

I am getting an error in the process chain during the deletion/generation of index in the cube....
error says: " Deleting/reconstructing indexes for InfoCube 0CSAL_C01 is not permitted "
Need your input for the same.....
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Anup,
Try to analyse the error in the manage tab of that cube, and try to do the reconstruction of indexes manually.

  • InfoCube index?

    Hi,
I need to load data into some InfoCubes during the work hours. Therefor, InfoCube indexes should be deleted as usual.
The data load will take approx. 4-5 hours. Since, the InfoCube indexes are deleted, does BIA indexes already cover this performance need when users run their reports? Or InfoCube indexes are still needed for query performance?
    Regards,
    Erdem

    Hi,
If the InfoCube is available through BIA you can delete the secondary indexes from the InfoCube without any problems. The reason is that the InfoCube tables are not needed for reporting purposes. Apart from that it is not always necessary/wise to delete the secondary indexes before a data load. This depends on factors like database system, parallel loading and cube compression.

  • Indesign CS3 crash while generating an PDF or deleting an index entry

Indesign crashes when I will starting the PDF export. This happens in all Indesign documents which are converted from CS2 and with index entries. So I want to delete the index but Indesign crashes while deleting too. I tried to convert the files in .indx files but nothing changes. Indesign is still crashing.
    Indesign 5.0.2
    Mac OS X 10.5.3
    MacPro Identifier 3,1
    RAM: 4GB

Hi. Im having the same problems and tried everything. Indesign crashes not just on Exporting, but also Import and Save As. It mostly works with no problem for days and then all the sudden crashes and cant fix it, then in about an hour starts working again, with the exact same document. It seems to me like the software cant find the path it created with the document. For example, if I press just SAVE, its saves with no problem, but when I choose SAVE AS, Indesign crashes after opening the communication window.
I still have PowerBook, not MacBook Pro, and OS X 10.5.3, so I figured my computer cant handle the new system and CS3. Although Im not having any problems with Photoshop nor other CS3 software, just indesign.
I would really appreciate some advice or response.

  • Reclaim disk space after delete an index

    Hi ,
I have deleted unused indexes from a history table to reclaim the disk space was allocated for these indexes , yet the size on the disk is the same , any steps I can follow to achieve this would be greatly appreciated..
    indexes size is 70 GB
table size is 45 GB , # of rows is above 200 Million
    Thanks in advance

in order to reclaim space after your big delete.  Don't shrink your data files unless you have no other choice.
The space will automatically go back to SQL server. You don't have to do anything.
The database size will be the same plus the growth of your log file due to logging the transactions. However, internally, SQL server knows that it still has that space to play with.
Other wise you can go for  update the statistics and rebuild indexes . but I think it would be the part of your normal weekend nightly maintenance plan

  • After deleting "Envelope Index" files Mail cannot re-index

I followed the common suggestion of deleting "Envelope Index" files to speed up mail, but after restarting Mail, it freezes when re-indexing my archive: it blocks after indexing just 6,000 messages out of my 600,000 messages (I have a pretty big email archive). I've tryed anything (reinstalling Mail, importing in Thunderbird or Postbox), but no way to get back to my email archieve
Moreover: I couldn't find Envelope Index* files in my Time Machine backup (tried "find" via shell, but no way)!
Special prizes to anyone who can help me!
    Thanks.

I followed the common suggestion of deleting "Envelope Index" files to speed up mail
That's not a way to speed up Mail.
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Deleting old indexes in OSES

    Hi,
Has anybody deleted old indexes from EQ_TEST schema. If so, which are the tables that can be safely truncated.
We are trying out different options in our development environments and even though we have deleted Sources from the OSES admin console, the data in EQ$CACHE, EQ$URL etc. remain and this is occupying tablespace. For example, the eq$attr_val in our development instance now hold - 22704948 rows.
Is there any admin command or procedure that can be run to safely delete bad data from these tables.
    We are using - 10.1.8.4.0
    Thanks
    Prat

    Well,
We trunctated/deleted the following tables -
    EQ$ATTR_VAL
    EQ$URL
    EQ$DOC
    EQ$CACHE
    EQ$SEC_ATTR_VAL
We restarted OSES and are now reindexing data. We use OSES in conjunction with Siebel.
So far the crawling seems to be fine. Fresh data is being inserted into the above tables.

    Hi,
Secondary index: Additional indexes could be created considering the most frequently accessed dimensions of the table.
How to create secondary index :
    1. Go to se11 --> Enter Tablename --> Display --> Click on "Indexes" button on Application Toolbar --> Select "Table Fields" button --> Select field on which you want to create index on (Compound index can be created on more than 1 table).
Generally indexes are created at database level to optimize performance (Select Non-unique Index --> Index on all database systems)
    Hope it helps

Sounds like the .idml was created in CS5 an opened in CS4. Is that correct? You'd lose unsupported CS5 features and that might result in some layout changes, but I wouldn't expect formatting changes, which you implied originally.
There are quite a few reports now of problems converting legacy files to CS5. I've not had any in my own work, but I haven't tried to update a lot of stuff. I wouldn't for example, switch versions near the end of a project, but would finish up in the original version to avoid any potential issues. Exporting from CS4 to either.inx or .idml and opening that in CS5 may give better results than opeing the CS4 .indd directly.
Since you've already done the conversion, and considerable editing, I'm not sure what to tell you. You could try exporting the text to InDesign Tagged Text, then place that into a new file. Copy/Paste in Place any graphic content.

  • Is there any way to delete my answered question?

i posted a question a while back... and just to let everybody knows im just new on the forum line... is it posible to delete my answered post? thanks

    Hi, adiv -
    No.
    As Niel stated -
"...the information in the thread may help people who have the same question or problem in future."
These forums work as well as they do because information is posted publicly and remains available to others who may have a similar question. Deleting an answered question would defeat that purpose, and would also change the basic nature of Discussions from a sharing community to a very self-centered mode.

  • Delete by index on type any table

What is the alternative for the forbidden index operations on a fieldsymbol of type any table?
I have a table under a fieldsymbol.. can be any table and I want to delete line 2.. how do I do it?
    e.g.
ps_tabname is a parameter pointing to an internal table (unknown at design time)
    field-symbols: <fs_tab> type any table.
    assign (ps_tabname) to <fs_tab>.
delete <fs_tab> index 2. -> not possible because of any table.. alternative?

    Hello,
This explains why TYPE STANDARD TABLE solves your problem
TYPE ANY TABLE --> Can contain any internal table (INDEX tables which can be either STANDARD or SORTED TABLE & HASH table). As already suggested index cannot be used on hash tables so it was giving you an error.
TYPE INDEX TABLE --> A generic table will be created which allows index access unlike ANY TABLE. Refer: [http://help.sap.com/abapdocu_70/en/ABENINDEX_TABLE_GLOSRY.htm|http://help.sap.com/abapdocu_70/en/ABENINDEX_TABLE_GLOSRY.htm]
