Deleting files now requires my user password?

This suddenly started happening and I don't know how to turn this function off. Maybe I accidently turned it on somehow...
Help please.

You didn't tell me this would automatically delete the files, and not move them to the trash. Now it doesn't ask for a password anymore, but permenatly deletes the file right away.
It shouldn't
Choose your Home folder "Get Info" (command-i) and be sure you have "read & write" in the Sharing & Permissions section. Check under "General" section to be sure it isn't locked. If that is correct, launch Applications/Utilities/Terminal and at the prompt copy & paste this command…
mkdir ~/.Trash
If you get a message that the folder already exists, copy & paste these commands...
sudo chown $UID ~/.Trash
Press return Enter your admin password (it will be invisible) Press return
Then copy/paste this command...
chmod u+rwx ~/.Trash
Press return. Log out and back in, or restart.

That;s really not enough free space... you can use a tools such as OmniDiskSweeper to find out where your large files reside and begin pruning (or copying to an external if they're files that you want to keep).
One thing is certain - if you're going to continue your current usage you're certainly going to need to install a larger boot drive.

  • Deleting files keeps prompting me for password and deleted files don't appear in trashbin

When I delete files from my macbook, it keeps prompting me for my password everytime.
And when I delete to file, it does not go into the trash. Somehow it deletes completely.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Ok. Found the answers from the community. Thanks a bunch!

  • Device now requires an encryption password

Hi, I went to make an alarm change on my HTC One M8 and found my phone had powered down on its own. After I powered it up it now requires a password to decrypt my device. I have not turned on encryption and have not rooted the phone, thanks.

That's pretty strange, dstenz50. It takes a few steps to encrypt a phone http://bit.ly/1kdQYgh and I haven't come across it doing the process on it's own. Has anyone had access to your phone? Did you previously set up a PIN or password to your device? What's the exact message you're seeing?

  • File help required / novice user

I really need some help, pls! I am a novice user, having
inherited a website and have tried to learn Dreamweaver by myself.
    Lots of trial and error!
Spent the day yesterday downloading a trial Adobe version 9
so that I could downsize pdf files, as well as downloading a
program to downsize jpegs, which don't seem to load into
Dreamweaver in thumbnail size anyways.....I mention these only
because they're the only things that changed between my last logon
to Dreamweaver.....I have no idea if they relate or not; thought
I'd cover all bases because I'm FRUSTRATED!
Now, when I log in to Dreamweaver and connect to the host I
can only see my local file -- I am not able to toggle between
Remote and Local because there is no option to, and there are no
"Put" or "Refresh" icons. Something does look different I think
(I'm sorry if I sound like a total idiot.....). When I click on the
button beside the Manage Sites link, it seems to me that the line
that states the website name looks different than before: it has a
pic of 2 computers, then ftp://, followed by the website name.....
HOW do I gain access again to the Remote files so that I am
working on the server and not just locally??? I just want it to
look and work the same as it always has!!!! I need to update the
    site!
    Thanks so much!

    > FRUSTRATED
We can see this - but I'm at a loss to understand what it is
    you are trying
to do here. Can you say more?
    > I am not able to toggle between Remote and Local because

You have defined a DW site, right? And you have specified
    both your local
root folder, and the FTP connection properties of the Remote
    server?
    > it has a pic of 2 computers, then ftp://, followed by
    the website
    > name.....
AHA - that's wrong. When you created the site in DW, you
    selected "FTP &
RDS Server" and you should have selected "Site". Delete this
    site
definition (this will not delete your files) and do it again,
    selecting
Site. Now you will be able to define a local (on your
    computer) and a
remote (on the host server) site.
    > HOW do I gain access again to the Remote files so that I

    > server and not just locally???
Now for the shocker. When you define an FTP & RDS Server
    site the way you
have, THERE IS NO LOCAL SITE. You are editing the files live
    on the server.
    Don't do that. Ever.

  • Deleted files now Macbook pro 13 2011 does not boot up

Tried following some instructions to delete search.genieo an safari and deleted some files. Now my Macbook pro 13 does not boot up at all. All I see is the screen with small apple and the running circle below indicating it is thinking. any clues anyone. Thxs

Just for the record, in case someone with the same problem stumbles across this topic later, I'll repeat the advice I gave you on another topic:
You did not follow the instructions precisely, and now you have suffered the fate that the giant red text on that page warned you about.
At this point, you will need to try the recovery instructions posted at the end of that page.

  • Deleted files, now can't download from cloud

I deleted a bunch of files from my c-drive, thinking that since they were iTunes purchases, I'd be able to re-download them from the cloud. Some of them have been capable of doing that, others are giving me the error message saying that the original file location could not be located and the song could not be downloaded. When I went into purchased in itunes store, the song shows up but does not have the little cloud in the corner. I am still able to play them on my iphone. Somebody help!

Alternatively you could troubleshoot using this document: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/tutorials-displayed-inspiration-browser-photo shop.html

  • IBooks is now requiring Apple ID password upon opening!

Why do I need to login with my Apple ID every time I open iBooks on my iPad mini?
    This is cumbersome!

Try this I read on another Support Thread:
Go into your iTunes app on the device(s) you use and check the Downloads tab.  If you have pending downloads clear it.
I checked both iPhone and iPad and sure enough there was "pending" downloads in the iTunes app.  I cleared them and signed on to iBooks without having to re-enter password.  Still a "Bug" in my book but at least a workable solution.

  • Input user password with AR?

    Hi,
I've read http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/acrrfaq.html and other sources regarding commenting PDFs with the Acrobat Reader.
There are tools out there to encrypt a pdf-file and set a user password. If I do this the document security shows, that it is possible to add comments to the document (with the user password).
But how do I enter the user password with AR? If a master password is set, a popup windows appears after opening the document, but what is the user password good for?
There is a plugin in my AR9.0 which is for commenting PDFs.
    greetings from germany
    Stefan K.

    Hi,
    thanks Bernd,
"There are a permission password and a open password."
    ok
"Owners of the open password can open the PDF document."
    ok
"Owners of the permission password can change the security settings."
    ok, but
    - changing the permissions requires Adobe Acrobat, right? not the AReader?
    - why are the document properties different in the document properties screen in AR?
    see: http://users.minet.uni-jena.de/~zsk/pdfs/StundenplanAR813.png
this suggests that the permission password (user password?) is for protecting the document properties, which are listet there - not - for protecting the change of the security settings.
    - why are the document properties(*) different when opening the same document via Adobe Acrobat?
    see: http://users.minet.uni-jena.de/~zsk/pdfs/StundenplanA812std.png
(*) this looks like the so called document properties are not properties of the document but properties of the adobe appl. I use to open it.
    this is all really confusing.
Here is my questiong again: Is it possible to add comments to a document via AR if it has a user password? -> (why does the document security window in StundenplanAR813.png show a Commenting: Allowed?? and why does a Addon in AR exisist that is called Comments??)
    greetings
    Stefan K.

  • System Preferences is asking for user password three times (?)

  • Deleting files requires administration password?

I'm not sure what settings I've messed around with to get to this point however, any time I now want to delete files it not only requires my administrator password but it bypasses the trash bin and just fully deletes them off of my laptop. It was just a minor annoyance at first, but then I realized as I was deleting mass amounts of music from iTunes that clicking "move to trash" on the files did nothing, the files are still in my music folder and now I have to manually delete and enter my password on the files. It's also stopped uninstalling things due to this issue with the recycle bin. I've checked the safe trash bin/etc checkboxes and toggled them on and off but no go it's still the same issue. Does anyone have any ideas what I might have done to cause this?

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Can't delete file from LR, requires password from finder Mac OS

I have an older Powermac running OSX 10.5.8. I store all of my images under the same folder on the same external hard drive. For some reason, and this has never happened before, has always functioned normally before this, I don't know why, images cannot be deleted and moved to the trash in LR. From the finder level, those files each require I type in my password (Finder requires that you type in your password.) This has never happened before, I've tried a shut down and cold re-boot but the behavior persists. Images are not locked and everything looks normal but not behaving normal. I realize this is not a Lightroom problem, but I need to delete from Lightroom because it is where I can review the images best while choosing which ones can be deleted. Anyone seen this Mac behavior before? Any fix you know of?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Sound's like the files don't have the correct permissions. Since they're on an external drive, you could just select the drive's icon, bring up the info window (Cmd+i) and tick the checkbox "Ignore ownership on this volume".
I do that with all my additional internal/external drives by default. It's usually no problem unless you need to prevent other users from accessing the files.

  • Password Required to Delete Files after Doing Security Update 2014-001/Safari Ver 6.1.2

Just updated my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. Prior to the update the computer was working fine; I was able to delete files in the customary manner. After updating, however,I am required to enter my password to complete the action. I am uning Lightroom 5 and I cannot delete images from within that application at all even though it should work. I can create folders and move them . . . I believe the only problem I have is as stated. Any advice as to where to go from here would be appreciated . . .. .

How does the backup file that I would like to use for restore now require a password, when I just Backed it up on 10/30/14

It requires a password to restore from it because at some point, you checked the box in iTunes to use encrypted backups, at which point you were prompted for, and set a password.
If you now can't remember what that was, then you can not restore from that backup.
