Deleting files requires administration password?

I'm not sure what settings I've messed around with to get to this point however, any time I now want to delete files it not only requires my administrator password but it bypasses the trash bin and just fully deletes them off of my laptop. It was just a minor annoyance at first, but then I realized as I was deleting mass amounts of music from iTunes that clicking "move to trash" on the files did nothing, the files are still in my music folder and now I have to manually delete and enter my password on the files. It's also stopped uninstalling things due to this issue with the recycle bin. I've checked the safe trash bin/etc checkboxes and toggled them on and off but no go it's still the same issue. Does anyone have any ideas what I might have done to cause this?

Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
          Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
           ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

  • Airport Failing to require Administrator Password when Turning on/off?

I was using Lion a ways back but became nervous about its security when I discovered it was failing to require Administrator Password for this simple setting.
See 'System Settings-->Network-->Airport-->Advanded.'  On the Airport tab, towards the bottom there is a section that states "Require Administrator Password to:"  with a checkbox at the bottom for "Turn Airport on or off."
This setting fails to do anything.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Is it still a problem?

  • Restoring backed up files requires a password

Just updated my iPad 2 32GB with iOS 5, the problem is when i am now in the process of restoring the backed up files, it requires a password which i didn't put any when i'm in the back up process. How could this be? please help me. i need to restore all the stuffs in my iPad

I believe that Apple's "Backup" application uses a special storage scheme that normaly requires Apple Backup to restore the backup items. There may be a problem, though, because your screenshot shows the backup items as ordinary folders. I don't use Backup any more, but I have some old storage items made with Backup 3, and my full and incremental backup items look like single files in Finder. They actually are packages, "special" folders with the same internal structure as the one you posted, but which look like single files in Finder. Maybe you used an earlier version of Backup that creates folders instead of package files.
I don't know if Backup 3 will be able to open and use the "normal-looking" folders that you do have, but it's worth a try. If you don't have Backup 3 on your current Leopard installation, you can download it at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL184
You need a MobileMe subscription to make new backups, but I think you can restore old backups even without a subscription. There is a Help menu in Backup 3 which includes instructions on how to restore things when you no longer have the backup plan used to make the backups. You would normally use Backup 3 to open the most recent IncrementalBackup file if there is one, otherwise the FullBackup file. In your situation I would try to open the folder with those names, not the folder contents.
If this doesn't work try double-clicking the "backup.sparseimage" files in the Folder>Contents>Contents subfolders. If the disk image mounts, look inside the mounted disk for your stuff and drag the contents back to your internal HD. Don't try to restore "settings", just datafiles.

  • Outlook 2007 now requires administrator password to open

I have been using office 2007 since 2007 and this has never occurred. Now when I open Outlook, as a Standard User it asks for my Administrator Password. When I am logged on to my other account which has Administrator privileges and a password, Outlook
opens right up and the User Account dialog doesn't appear. This doesn't happen when I open Word; it is specific to Outlook.
I don't know how this happened and I don't know how to correct it.
When I am logged in as the Standard User:
Under Properties, Shortcut tab, Advanced,  Run as Administrator is grayed out and not checked.
In the Compatibility Tab, in the Privilege Level section, Run this program as an administrator
IS CHECKED but grayed out. But when I click on
Change settings for all users in the Compatibility tab (I am asked for my Admin password) I see that the
Run as Administrator box is unchecked there (not grayed out). I have tried checking it, clicking on Apply and then unchecking it and clicking on apply again but the checked, Grayed out box in the Privilege Level section remains
    checked.
In the Security Tab, Everyone, SYSTEM, Administrators, and both my Standard User and Administrator account have all privileges. I have tried changing the Owner from the Administrator account to the Standard User Account and back again with no effect.
When I am logged in as the user with Administrative Privileges:
As I said, Outlook opens right up without the User Account dialog appearing (no password security check).
In Properties, under the Compatibility Tab, in the Privilege Level section,
Run this program as an administrator
    IS NOT CHECKED.
Does anyone know how to fix this? There must be a way to either change this in Policies or while logged in as Administrator. The box in the Standard User account needs to be "un-grayed" so that it can be unchecked.

  • Administrator Password Prompt won't Appear

I just updated to 10.6 and now whenever I do anything that requires an administrator password (like software update), I don't get the Administrator Password Prompt.
    Expected Behavior
    1) Do something that requires administrator password
    2) Click on "Continue", "Yes", "I Agree", etc.
    3) Administrator Authorization Window pops up
    4) I enter my administrator password
    5) Things go on their merry way
    Actual Behavior:
    1) Do something that requires administrator password
    2) Click on "Continue", "Yes", "I Agree", etc.
    3) ... wait...
    4) Click on "Continue" again... just to be sure.
    5) ... wait...
    6) No administrator prompt appears
    7) Action requiring password doesn't continue.
Anyone have any hints? I've tried repairing disk permissions and verifying the disk, both of which turned up nothing.

I've seen reports that this behavior may be caused by a custom keyboard layout. do you use any? try switching to the US keyboard layout. if that does not help delete the file /users/username/library/preferences/byhost/com.apple.HIToolbox.* and log out/in. see if it works then.

  • Desktop Workflow Administrator Password Recovery

I have a supervisor that changed the default password (admin) on his install of Desktop Administrator. The supervisor has forgot the password and is not able to access the application. Is it possible to reset the password without knowing the current. I have tried to uninstall and then re-install, this did not work. Password is still required and it is not the default.

    Hi,
the docs (Cisco Desktop Administrator User Guide CAD 6.6 for Cisco Unified Contact Center Express Release 7.0, Cisco Unified Communications Manager Edition September 2009) say:
Restoring the Default PasswordThe Reset Administrator Password option can be used In the event you forget a password you set up. This option resets the password back to its default value (blank) without requiring that you know the previous password. This menu option is available only in CAD Configuration Setup located on the Unified CCX server. To restore the default password:1.On the Unified CCX server, navigate to the C:\Program Files\Cisco\Desktop\bin folder.2.Double-click postinstall.exe to launch CAD Configuration Setup.3.Choose File > Reset Administrator Password. The utility runs and resets the password to blank.
I never tried it myself, but it sounds reasonable.

  • Password Required to Delete Files after Doing Security Update 2014-001/Safari Ver 6.1.2

Just updated my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. Prior to the update the computer was working fine; I was able to delete files in the customary manner. After updating, however,I am required to enter my password to complete the action. I am uning Lightroom 5 and I cannot delete images from within that application at all even though it should work. I can create folders and move them . . . I believe the only problem I have is as stated. Any advice as to where to go from here would be appreciated . . .. .

  • Finder requires password to delete files, Trash does not show deleted files. Please help me resolve.

Deleting folders/files causes the password pop up interface to appear, does not seem to matter where the file/folder is. After deleting, it should appear in the trash, but does not. Moving files is not affected, with the exception of moving files into Trash. This did not happen in the morning.
Accessing ~/.Trash gives following message "The folder “.Trash” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." .Trash is hidden, and i can't view its permission from the Get info page.
I am the owner of the laptop, i don't understand why this is happening. The other thread with similar problems involved a software upgrade and had problems with moving files also, whereas my MBP was okay this morning, i didn't do anything else from then till now.
i did a ls -al ~ on the terminal, relevant lines as follows
    drwx------
    10 root  staff
    340 Jan 18 02:09 .Trash
compared to desktop, which i had no problems (yet, not sure)
    drwx------+
    30 Mac   staff
    1020 Jan 18 02:08 Desktop
i don't understand the notation, reading up about them does not clarify any more then to confuse me further.
My user is "Mac", ~/ goes to folder "Mac"
Please help, I have tried booting from save mode, and it is the same.

Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on solving Trash issues. You can also try using Trash It! 5.1 to fix the problem. Or you can try this:
Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and paste the following at the prompt:
        sudo rm -Rf ~/.Trash
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not echo to the screen. Press RETURN again.
(Should anyone tell you this is dangerous or unnecessary, please ignore the comment.)
