Deleting multiple empty playlists

I have recently purchased an iPhone and have transferred my itunes music library from my home computer to my laptop which is running Windows Vista. In doing so, I have successfully transferred my entire library. However, I have noted that all of the playlists in my library have been multiplied many times. When I attempt to open any of these multiple playlists, I find that they are empty. In other words, I have an enormous number of duplicated playlists on my newly authorized computer, nearly all of which are empty. Deleting them one by one would take a huge amount of time.
Is there any way that I can delete the lot of them and reinstall the playlists that I would like to keep without making an enormous amount of copies?

The VBscript below will delete all empty playlists. You can either copy and paste from below into a .vbs file, or download it here
Option Explicit
Dim iTunes
Dim playlists
Dim i
Set iTunes = CreateObject("iTunes.Application")
Set playlists = iTunes.LibrarySource.Playlists
For i = playlists.Count to 1 Step -1
If playlists.Item(i).Size = 0 Then
wscript.echo "playlist " & playlists.Item(i).Name & " is 0 size, deleting "
playlists.Item(i).Delete
End If
Next

    After getting collection from BTadmini use the below code.
    lr_iterator ?= lr_coll->get_iterator( ).
        lr_entity ?= lr_iterator->get_first( ).
        WHILE lr_entity IS BOUND.
          IF lr_entity->is_send_active( ) EQ abap_false.
            APPEND lr_entity TO lt_empty_lines.
          ENDIF.
          lr_entity ?= lr_iterator->get_next( ).
        ENDWHILE.
        LOOP AT lt_empty_lines INTO lr_entity.
          typed_context->btadmini->collection_wrapper->remove( lr_entity ).
          lr_entity->delete( ).
        ENDLOOP.

  • Multiple empty playlists, iTunes freezes, incomplete syncs

    I have a PC...don't hold it against. My iTunes freezes, I have incomplete syncs and a ridiculous number of empty playlists. I have some computer sense ( in other words if you are patient I have no problem trying to make changes to my computer). Was excited for iMatch...now not so much. Suggestions?

    Assuming you've posted in the Windows forum because you have a Windows PC...
    Click the link for KillEmptyPlaylists to visit the page where it is hosted. Click the link of the same name on that page to download the script to your computer. Double-click the script to run it. (You'll probably get some kind of security warning but your A-V scanner should have been happy with it - it is safe, but then I suppose if I had bad intent I would say that. You'll have to decide whether you think I can be trusted.). The script will ask you to make sure that you want it to go ahead, and then delete all the empty playlists for you if you want.
    If you actually have a Mac I can point you in the right direction for an equivalent script.

  • I created a playlist on my iphone and it created multiple empty playlist

    Does anyboydy have the same problem?
    I created a playlist on my Iphone and suddently thousands of empty playlist with identifcal name appeared everywhere.
    Since then, my music on my iphone freezes.
    I tried to remove with automator on my computer, but when I refresh the Itune match, they reappear..

    If your Mac is signed into your account with Documents & Data syncing checked in System Preferences>iCloud, it should have received a copy on your Mac.
    Open Finder and navigate to "~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~Pages/Documents" (without the quotes) from the Go>Go to Folder Menu.  If this folder exists on your hard drive, launch Time Machine and go back to an earlier point in time to see if your missing document appears.  If it does, restore the most recent version available.

  • How to delete multiple duplicate playlists in iTunes match?

    itunes created 1500 duplicates of my playlists.

    Apple's official advice on duplicates is here: Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
    Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
    Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
    (If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
    The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • How do i delete multiple playlists created on iphone?

    I have a real mess.  My wife (on her iPhone 4) chose to "add a playlist" in her music app.  She did.  We have iTunes Match set up on our Mac and all iPhone and iPad devices (4 iPhones and 3 iPads).  Somehow the playlist cloned itself.  I know have over 16,000 playlists all the same name, with nothing in them.  It has basically locked up the music app on phones.
    I cannot delete them on my iTunes on Mac.  I have tried, delete & dragging to trash.  They will not delete.  I cannot choose multiples either.
    Does anyone know how to help?

    I have this issue too.
    Why is iTunes less useful than it was?
    for instance, I cant highlight and delete multiple playlists.  I can't see a "list" view of albums, stuck looking at artwork.
    when you have a large library, this is unhelpful.

    Somehow I've ended up with hundreds of repeated playlists (e.g., 20 copies of Top 25 Most Played). Not sure how it happened, but want to delete. I'm trying to find a way to delete these other than one at a time.

  • How to delete multiple songs within playlist

    Hi does anyone know how to delete multiple songs within a playlist on OS or Mac??  I have reached the limit in songs I can play offliine and would like to delete some of the songs that are on my playlist.  For example the last 100 songs.  I dont want to indiviually sit here and delete them one by one.  Thanks Ray

    On ios i think the only way is to edit the playlist by clicking on the three dots. I dont own a mac, but on windows you can hold control and select the songs you want to delete. Or select a song, go to the last song you want to delete, hold shift and click on the song.

  • How to delete Multiple Artists in one action?

    Hi,
    I want to do a big clean up on an iTunes library with over 4000 albums.
    How can I delete multiple Artists in one action?
    It looks like I can only delete 1 Artist at a time, and then this action shoots me to the top of the list.  Which is a pain then having to scroll back down through such a huge list to then delete the others one at a time... each time being shot back to the top of the list.
    For example I have the following artists;
    The Alarm 01 – 1 song
    The Alarm 02 – 1 song
    The Alarm 03 – 1 song
    The Alarm 04 – 1 song
    The Alarm 05 – 1 song
    The Alarm 06 – 1 song
    And I want to delete them all in 1 action.
    Can this be done?  How best to do it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    You can't delete "artists" - just songs (or songs grouped into albums).  When iTunes displays the library or a playlist in Artists view it is doing so using the metadata values set in the relevant songs.  If you're looking at this view:
    then your selections in the left pane - the artists list - is filtering what you see on the right.  When you select Delete via the keyboard or via a right-click operation, you are initiating an operation to delete the songs by that artist.  To delete songs by more than one artist in a single operation you'll need to select and delete in Albums view:
    or in Songs view:
    where you can also use the Column Browser to filter songs by multiple artists:

    How do I delete multiple items at once instead of one at a time? I have several duplicate items in my library and would like to delete the duplicates. Thanks!

    You can select multiple items using shift to select a range and control to add or remove items from it.
    Regarding duplciates, Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
    Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.

  • How to delete multiple songs from iPhone 5S without losing form iTunes? The unchek function has not worked. Why?

    How to delete multiple songs from iPhone 5S without losing form iTunes? The unchek function has not worked. Why?

    Sorry I had to reply through your profile Gail from Maine, my PC has java issues. In any event, when I delete them directly from my device everything is perfect and cool. However, in the rare instance I want to add new music that I actually buy in stores (I know, quite the unique and old-fashioned idea...but hey Im an audiophile) once I upload the tunes, everytime I sync my library it re-adds everything that I spent hours deleting. In a perfect world, I thought I could maintain a massive iTunes Library, and add or delete (remove) songs from my iPhone to save both memory or keep my iPhone selections more current/apt to my musical "tastes" at that time. I know about the whole playlist thing, but thought there might be an easier way. ie - checking/un-checking the little box next to the song name, and then doing a sync. Again, everytime I do this however, whether everything is checked or un-checked it adds the entire library! So frustrating. Any suggestions. Thank you graiously in advance for your help.
