Deleting old and setting up new iCloud email address

I am trying to figure out how to delete an old .mac email address permanently, then initiate a new .me address.
This used to be simple, ( maybe it still is? ), with MobileMe where you could just open those preferences and add or delete accounts. But it's been some time since I have had to do this and now with iCloud I cannot figure out how to manage my Apple email addresses, and I find Apple's Help features not to helpful at all!
Obviously I do have an iCloud account.

Sorry I thought I did so...
To try to be clearer, I wish to delete an old / existing .mac account/email address, i.e.:  [email protected] Delete it permanently.
Then I want to open an entirely new email address, i.e.:  [email protected]
Does this make sense now?
Thanks! PM

  • Problem saving email preferences for new iCloud email address

I was trying to enter a new email address for iCloud in the Apple Mail program and after clicking save I receive the following message,"Writing your preferences to disk has failed. Your preferences may not have been saved. The permissions on ~/Library/Preferences may be wrong or your disk may be fullI'  I know the disk is not full on my new MacBook Pro. I went into LIbrary/Preferences but could not find the mail preferences.
The preferences have not been saved because every I time I start the computer the new email is missing from my email preferences.
    Thanks for your help.

While you can't currently change your Apple ID to a Mobile/iCloud email address, I found a solution that helps with a related problem.
Suppose you've recently got an iCloud email address, but Apple are still sending all your iTunes Store, App Store and Mac App Store receipts to your old gmail address (the one that's still your Apple ID). And suppose they're also sending all the Apple Support Communities notifcation emails to your old gmail address. How do you change it? How do you fix it?
Well the option exists, but it is hidden away in a weird place. To get Apple sending all of their receipts and notifications to your new iCloud email address...
    • Go to your country's Apple Store website http://store.apple.com/
    • Click on the Account button in the top-right corner
    • Under Account Settings, click on Change your default shipping or billing info
    • Sign in with your usual Apple ID and password
    • The email address listed under Payment Information is the key
    • Click on Edit next to Payment Information and change that email address to your iCloud address
That's all you have to do.

  • How do I create a new icloud email address for my apple id?

    Hi there
How do I create a new icloud email address for my apple id? My original email address is associated with my previous employers.
When I send email from my Macbook, it seems as if I still work there, which is a problem.
I would like to use the email address that I created for my iPad.
When I login with my appleid (for my macbook) I keep getting the old company one, not the new one.
Is there any way of resolving this? I
    Thanks

    Hey meharazim,
Try turning off your iPhone, and then going to the Apple ID website to see if you can edit/update your information.  I'll include some information below inclucing a link to the Apple ID Support team if you need help straightening this out.
Once you have the Apple ID straightened out, if you are still not able to delete the iCloud account, you may need to restore the iPhone as a new device.

  • Contacts no longer in sync between iPhone and Mac after creating iCloud email address

A few days ago, I was asked (by iCloud) to create an iCloud email address because it would be "better" than the email address I've been using. Since then, most of my contacts have disappeared from my iPhone 4s. I have noticed that the newest contacts are still on my iPhone, while all my other contacts are on my Mac and on iCloud.com.
How do I merge the two so that I don't lose any of the contacts and get them all in sync?
On my MacBook Pro, l have OS X v10.9.1, System Settings for iCloud checked for Contacts.
On my iPhone 4S, I have iOS 7.0.4, System Settings for iCloud ON for Contacts.
iCloud account on both devices is the same AppleID, which is my old AppleID, not the new @iCloud.com
My Hotmail email account has also been screwed up since this change. It keeps downloading the same messages over and over again and when I try to delete them, it tells me it is unable to move the messages to the mailbox trash.

Welcome to the Apple Community BratTheCat.
    Please try the following…
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.
iCloud doesn't change anything to do with non iCloud content, contact hotmail to resolve your hotmail problem.

  • New Apple ID with a new iCloud email address as the ID

Can you get an iCloud email address BEFORE you get an Apple ID? I'd really like to not use my existing Yahoo email as my Apple ID login.
Seems I have to use my old Yahoo email address to get an Apple ID because it's already existing.
If I have to use an existing email address, can I subsequently change my issued Apple ID login to the iCloud email address I would have created after I've got into my new account?
    Thanks anyone.

The problem is that all services are bundled with your Apple ID ([email protected]):
Your iCloud account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes, Backups, etc.),
also iTunes & App Store purchases (Music, Movies, TV Shows, etc.),
    and the iTunes Match services.
(I guess that all your devices - yours and your wife's are connected to one iTunes library, right?)
If you want that your wife gets her own iCloud account for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc. but gets also access to your media then you have two set up two things on her device:
iCloud (Settings > iCloud) with her account (e.g. [email protected])
    and
iTunes & App Stores (Settings > iTunes & App Stores) with your account (e.g. [email protected]).
In this case she gets access to your library and could use the same iTunes Match account.

  • Can I have my new iCloud email address be the default instead of my Apple ID?

My apple ID is based on an old @mac.com account that no longer works. My new iCloud account has given me a new @me.com account but I can't use it as the default and all email going out from iPhone apps, i.e.: news articles, etc., is being sent from the @mac.com account and bouncing from the server. I can switch the "from"line so that it goes through the working account, but I have to do it every time I send something. Is there a way to permanently set the new @me.com address as the default or do I need to open a new iCloud account?

Thanks for your answer, but perhaps I didn't make myself clear. What I would like to do is change my default email address for iCloud from the old @mac.com address that does not work anymore to the new @me.com that Apple has issued me, or even a gmail account. Why does the iCloud account have to be linked to an email address that no longer works?

  • IPad using @mac and not @me as iCloud email address

My iPad is using old my @mac.com address instead of @me.com.  How do I change this back or get it to stop happening?  It seemed to work on my iPhone (which is sending from my @me.com address correctly) but not on the iPad.  Both devices are on iOS 5.0.1.

If you changed the Primary Contact Email address, that IS the CONTACT Email address, then that is all that has changed. Your Apple ID is still the original email address you used when you setup your Apple ID.
So if I set up an Apple ID and I use MyName @ MyISPsDomainName . com email address as my user name all emails sent to me from Apple/iCloud go to that address. If I then go in and change the Primary CONTACT Email address to MyNewCONTACTemailAddress @ SomeOtherISPDomainName . Com all emails set to my from Apple/iCloud will go to that NEW CONTACT Email Address BUT My Apple ID is still the first email address I used.

  • HT4436 How do I get a new iCloud email address ?

How can I change my iCloud email address to a new one?

Once you have created an iCloud account and chosen an @icloud.com address to go with it you can't change the address (short of creating an entirely new account).
However, all is not lost. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account, move it to another account, or reactivate it if you delete it.

  • How to not display email in imessage header OR delete old appleid to free up social email address for imessage

    Hi,
I have a business email and a separtate "social" email that i use for friends etc. The business email I have is signed up to Itunes/appstore for my iPad3.
So I want to display my "social" email instead to my contacts that I imessage, but NOT sign up to itunes with this email (i dont mind varifying it).
The PROBLEM is that years ago I must have signed onto itunes and now have the "social" email  address as an appleid. Now when I try to use this email for the "recieve at" setting, it does not let me. Also the PROBLEM is that you can never delete an appleid!!!!!!
I DO NOT want to have to add yet another email account for this, and I want one that my friends will recognise!
    how do I either:
    1) delete that old appleid so I can use this email for imessage?
    OR
    2) Hide my business email on the "From" imessage header?
    Thanks.

All good, I loved with AppStore and now everything seems to be back to normal.

  • Problems setting up an iCloud email address

I want to set up an additional email address, an icloud.com address. But the checkmark next to Mail is already checked, because I am signed in with my Apple ID.

Each iCloud account only includes a single email account.  You can create up to 3 additional @icloud.com email alias address to use that are linked to your account and will receive incoming email in the same inbox as your main address, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.
To create an additional email account you have to create a secondary iCloud account.  You do this by going to System Preferences>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...click the "+" on the bottom of the left sidebar, then click iCloud from the list to the right and enter a separate Apple ID.
