Deleting old contact information
My girlfriend has asked me to delete my contact information for people I dated previously and I agreed (I know, I know, but I hate seeing her upset). I already deleted the contact information from my iPhone which also cleared the information from MobileMe on my other Macs.
But she's still upset because a copy of the information would be preserved in my old Time Machine backups so she wants me to delete those too. I'm not willing to erase and reformat my backup disks to get rid of a few phone numbers, so I'm looking for a way to just delete the old contact information and leave the rest of the backup intact.
Any ideas?

If I do this as described, then it wipes out all content of the Address Book in the backups, right? Is there a way to wipe out specific people from the Address Book without wiping out the entire Address Book?
I marked V.K.'s answer as 'helpful' because wiping out just the Address Book is better than wiping out the entire backup set, but I'm still hoping for a way to target just the contact information to be deleted instead of wiping out everything--i.e. I want to preserve the 99%+ of the content that has nothing to do with people I'm deleting.
I'd like to find a way to identify the files containing the address book information to be deleted and then remove all copies of just those files. Otherwise I'd have to go through every backup in each of the backup sets (probably a few hundred) to make sure I preserve the other content. It's like I need a Time Machine version of Sync.

iCloud syncs your data across all devices, whatever you do on one will happen on all others. Hence to delete your contacts from iCloud, just delete it from any device or from iCloud.com. -

Have deleted contacts from contacts list, from Email accounts in computer etc, still the old names remain. tried re-syncing accounts still didn't work.
It has been like that since as long as I can remember. Whenever you email someone from your phone it keeps their address in the previous recipients. I believe I read a long time ago that you can get rid of them by going into the settings app and reseting the network settings, but I've never tried it myself.

How do u delete old contacts that have been deleted from my phonebook on my iphone4s. The old contacts continue. To show up when i go to message someone they pop up from memory.

You cannot delete data in TM, it's a backup app. However in your address book you can delete some contacts and then TM will not back up that data. It's not that big a deal however, what I'd do is remove the contacts you want in the Contacts app and just leave TM alone.

Where is Active Sync finding all my contact information

I recently acquired a Palm Treo Pro, to replace my Treo 650. I have quite a few contacts stored on my 650 Treo, but they don't show up in my Outlook Contacts, and I have never been able to see any contacts in my Palm Desktop Address book. Anyhow, when I ran Active Sync, it pulled in all kinds of old contact information, and in many cases replicated many of the entries. What I would like to know is if anyone knows where it is picking up this information, and is there a way to edit it on my desktop, and then do another Active Sync, making the Desktop replace the handheld data. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.Amf
You should make a back-up of your contacts on your computer anyway, regardless if you proceed.
On my Macbook I go into Contacts> File> Export> Export Archive

When I got my iphone 4 I imported data from my pc. Now, when I text people my old company name comes up. I deleted my contact info and reentered it. Still the old company name. Is there another place I need to change the info? Thanks so much!

Your not alone thinking this is a nightmare and if this not a topic concerning all old apple costumer's Mr Roger you never been on the support pages before. If you not believe me search "merge multiple Apple ID" on support page or Google it, I know you know this because you always trying to help frustrated people by saying this is not possible...

My wife and I both have Iphones. For the past 18 months her phone and mine had the same appleID (mine). When I set up iCLoud backups and synch a month ago, my wifes phone ended up with all my contacts (1400+) and her's (<100) mixed together. Didn't bother me, but drover her wild trying to find 'her' contacts.
Oviously she needed to have her own appleID on her phone.
After a lot of googling around I found the "Import Export Contacts" app. It works great. I opens a Service to a browser screen on a computer and can upload/download to/from the phone.
I downloaded my copy of the combined contact list. I found her's reletively easily by sorting on 'date changes' column.
On her phone I deleted the contact file. and set up her own appleID
I created a .csv with her contacts only and moved it into her phone. then set up the phone to manage contacts in the icloud properties screen.
All her (and my) contacts came back. I thought when I deleted the contacts on her phone, the iclud synch woudl deleted them on icloud and then when I loaded ne contaces on her phone it would sych with icloud and all woudl be right with teh world.
What can I do next? I can give her her phone with her old contacts and not backup with icloud, but then she could lose herIf you don't have a backup of the newer information then you don't

When I updated my iphone software, I lost my contact information. I see the backup on the devices menue in iTunes. However, it will only let me delete this backup and not restore it. How can I restore my old contacts to my iPhone? Thanks!

I just changed my email address in my iphone4s so had to change I appleId and iCloud ID so wat in turn happened was that it wiped out my contacts information and deleted my camera roll pictures is there any way I can retrieve my data,

How can I delete old, incorrect contacts from iCloud?
There are hidden duplicates in my iCloud contacts - old ones for contacts where I've updated info. They don't show up in the regular contacts list ("all contacts"), yet they always show up when I enter a name into an email address and in iPhoto's Faces names. I can't change them to the correct names in iPhoto. And I can't find them to delete the old data.
Anyone know where these are stored (old contact data that's been deleted or updated)? And, how can I access that place?

After an incredible amount of research on this issue, I discovered it's not new. In fact, there have been many complaints about it with no action (to date) by Apple. Here's what's happening...
On iOS devices (iPad, iPhone), when an email is received or an email address is changed, IN THE EMAIL APP, a cache is formed with all the "received email addresses." These - right/wrong/incorrect/whatever are stored and pop up when you enter an email recipient. THERE IS NO WAY TO DELETE THESE ON iDEVICES.
However, if you have a Mac, it's an easy cure -
Open Mail > Windows > Previous recipients > select those you want out (or all, for that matter - doesn't affect the Contacts list) > Remove.
Too bad Apple hasn't seen fit to add this to its iOS functionality. Maybe if enough complaints are received, it might show up in iOS6 ????? -
My Outlook Contacts/calendars (running on an iMac) never sync properly with my iPhone, and now on the last sync 90% of the contact information on my iPhone has been deleted. Any ideas?

I had to change a contaxts mobile number so deleted the contact and replaced with new number. Somehow when I try to send a text it is the old number showing. Why is it stil showing and how can I remove. This is the same with some of the itunes which have copied over but again I cant remove. When I sysnc to computer it tells me that this is a new computer, which it is and it wants to delete everythign. I dont want that can anyone help with these few problems.You will have to try Recovery Mode.

In my email auto fill it lists addresses I haven't used in 2 years as "recent others". What causes this, the contact information for these people was deleted some time ago.
Mail, Window Menu, Previous Recipients.
Select the ones you don't want and delete them.
If you want to add them to contacts, click that button.

Sharing an object between Servlets
I am using a Connection object to query a database from a few different servlets. Is there a way I can pass it between the Servlets, so that I don't have to keep re-opening the connection for each Servlet?
