Deleting raw device content

Hello,
After one installation of cluster software (with problem) I try to install one more time, but the last installation of cluster software leaves some data on my raw devices (for OCR and Voting Disk I use direct raw devices without OCFS, for data files ASM on raw devices).
How can I really delete the content of raw devices? When I delete partitions and create new, it does not delete the content.
Thanx,
Jacek

I don't know your OS, this is for Linux:
dd if=/dev/zero of=<raw_device>
This command writes binary 0's to the destination.
Be careful when specifying the 'of' argument, this command is used also to clean a whole harddisk (when you plan to sell it).

  • Deleting an account without loosing device contents

I currently own an iphone 5  and an ipad mini
and due to a family disagreement I have had with my sister she has told me to get my own iTunes account as she no longer wants me using hers anymore.
I  have created an account and logged into it on my I phone and my ipad and now I have updates to do its asking me for her user password for her account even tho I have put my apple id into the devices and logged into iTunes on them and have also logged into icloud it still wants her password.
Does anyone know why this is still happening seeing as she tells me that she has been into iTunes and deleted the devices out of her account.
when I look on both devices in the settings it shows my apple account as being connected to both iTunes for the apps store and I cloud services but still requests her password am at a lose as to what to do without wiping the entire phone contents and starting new

Those applications have her Apple ID stored inside them. They need to be deleted and redownloaded.

  • Content Server 6.40 on Raw Devices

    Hi Folks!
We'd like to install a Content Server 6.40 using raw devices (on Linux Suse SLES9).
Do we need to install the MaxDB, if we use raw devices? At this point the InstGuide does not give a clear description of what to do. It looks we can use the raw devices directly without having a database instance. Is this right?
Is there any disadvantage compared to using the access via file system and DB?
    Any hint is appreciated...
    Best regards
    Torsten

    Hi Torsten,
As far as i know SAP Content Server use MaxDB or a File System, I have use it with MaxDB with good results, anyhow.... read the following for details,

You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.

  • Question(s) related to ASM, Raw devices and performance

    Good morning,
I was recently getting acquainted with ASM. Since I was doing this in "play" VM boxes, it was not possible to draw any conclusions about any performance improvements.
I'd like to know what performance improvements forum members may have experienced after migrating a production environment from a non-ASM setup to an ASM setup.
It would seem that since ASM is a "form" of raw device access that the increase in performance should be noticeable. Was that the case for those who migrated to it ? Was the performance improvement worth it or did it only make managing the database easier ?
Thank you for your contributions on the subject,
    John.

ASM uses disk groups to store datafiles; an ASM disk group is a collection of disks that ASM manages as a unit. Within a disk group, ASM exposes a file system interface for Oracle database files. The content of files that are stored in a disk group are evenly distributed, or striped, to eliminate hot spots and to provide uniform performance across the disks. The performance is comparable to the performance of raw devices.
You can add or remove disks from a disk group while a database continues to access files from the disk group. When you add or remove disks from a disk group, ASM automatically redistributes the file contents and eliminates the need for downtime when redistributing the content.

  • Deleting Raw Files without deleting proxy files

    Hello,
Another newbie question, is Deleting Raw Files without deleting proxy files possible? If it is, anyone have done this? I am thinking of implementing this but cannot find a way. Any suggestion / help is highly appreciated

If what you want to do is delete the original file without deleting the proxies, the easiest way would be to set up an device for Archives. Then you can archive the asset, which will move the original file to the archive location without deleting the proxy and database records for that Asset. Once that is done you can just delete the file from the archive location.

  • Linux RedHat 4 update 4: how to unbind  raw devices used by ASM diskgroups?

How to unbind raw devices used by ASM diskgroup?
I created ASM diskgroup using /dev/raw/rawn, after done my testing, I need to toss the raw devices to start a new testing. Here is the procedure:
    1. shutdown MYTEST database
    2. in ASM instance, remove disks from diskgroup 'rawtest'
    3. in ASM instance, "drop diskgroup rawtest including contents"
    4. in OS, issue: "raw /dev/raw/raw1 0 0"
    I got the following error:
    # raw /dev/raw/raw1 0 0
Error setting raw device (Device or resource busy)
But if I shutdown ASM instance, the above commmand will be successful.
My question, how can I unbind raw devices without shutting down ASM instance(could be used by other databases at the same time)?
    Thanks,
    Jenny

    Hey tippybarnes123,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.  To answer your question about removing the Apple ID from the device is to sign out of the account on that device. The following article will walk you that.

  • I  can't delete raw files in bridge

I can't delete raw files in bridge anymore. I used to and it worked. Now if I click delete button, nothing happens.

Adobe doesn't support CS5, an when I spoke to Apple, I was told that this is a known issue with OS 10.8.5 and that they're working on a patch.  In the meantime I'm using Adobe's DNG as a workaround.
Have not heard before of this Known Issue, also find it hard to believe being true. But can't test my self because I only have CS6 and CC installed and always use Photodownloader to convert to DNG upon import. I have just installed the 10.8.5 update and checked in Bridge CC pointing to an attached card reader. no problem in showing the CR2 thumbs, it works as always and as expected.
To my knowledge Bridge CS5 is already 64 bits and I can't think of any valid reason why an OS update would cause this problem so suddenly (but I'm not a technician I have to confess…)
However, I would first try a check and repair permissions from Apple Disk Utility and also try Cocktail (good and cheap 3th party maintenance application for Mac) to clear caches and check permissions.
Also try a new user account just for testing to rule out your current account as the culprit.

  • If I have to format an external hard drive to make it Mac compatible, will it delete all the content in the external hard drive?

If I have to format an external hard drive to make it Mac compatible, will it delete all the content in the external hard drive?

As others have said, the answer to your question is a big YES.  Formatting a drive will delete everything!
To keep your data, yet reformat the drive for optimal Mac compatibility, you will need to:
    1) copy your files to a different hard drive (I would recommend two different locations if you value your data)
    2) repartition/format the external drive
    3) then copy the files back to the external.
You haven't given details but if you need the external to ONLY be compatible with the Mac (and no longer care if if can be read by Windows), then you will want to partition the drive using the GUID partition scheme, and format as the (HFS+) "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" filesystem.  You can do so using the built-in "Disk Utility" application on your Mac (in the Applications/Utilities directory).  Here are instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph5845
If you need the drive to be compatible with both Mac and Windows computers then please post that so someone can recommend a solution for your specific needs.
