Deleting tracks

I have all my music stored on an external hard drive and have my iTunes pointing at this hard drive. I have noticed that is I delete a track library that it does not delete the track from the external hard drive. Is there a way of configuring iTunes so that when I delete a track from my iTunes library that it is alos deleted from the external hard drive.

Are you sure the files you are deleting are inside the currently designated iTunes Media folder? Is this a locally connected external disk or a networked device? If the files are not inside the iTunes Media folder then they won't be removed/recycled. I haven't tested exactly what happens if the files are in a remote iTunes Media folder lately, but my recollection is that these are just deleted, not recycled.

  • Can't delete tracks from iCloud

I'm trying to delete tracks from my iCloud instance.
In iTunes, I delete from my library all of the tracks that I want removed from iCloud. A pop-up dialogue asks if I would like to remove these tracks from iCloud as well. I select the checkbox to indicate yes I do want. The tracks are then visibly removed from my local iTunes library. The next time iTunes Match runs, however, these tracks are re-populated in my iTunes library, as being matched in iCloud.
Obviously I am missing some nuanced step in this process. Any hints?
If it helps, I'd be perfectly happy to have my entire iCloud library deleted, and start fresh.
Note: I am not deleting the files themselve from the filesystem, just trying to remove their entry in my iTunes library.

    Solved.
My problem is a duplicate of https://discussions.apple.com/message/16988521#16988521
Solution: delete tracks in groups <900, and be patient.

  • HT1399 How can I stop my MacBook's iTunes from asking if I want to delete tracks each time I press to play one?

How can I stop my MacBook's iTunes from asking if I want to delete tracks each time I press to play one? Is it a bug from iTunes's version 11.0.5?
Since I dowloaded and installed iTunes' version 11.0.5 on my MacBook, it is behaving strangely:
    - displaying an alert message asing if I want to delete tracks each time I press to play one
    - not playing tracks in the order they're displayed in my library, sometimes jumping from one playlist to the other
I did check my settings and preferences for playing tracks and tried changing some parameters in them, however it still doesn't help.
It seems to be a bug in iTunes' version 11.0.5 — if you had a similar experience and found how to solve this discomfort, thanks for contacting me.

Oui, je parle français. En fait, il semble qu'Apple ait résolu le problème auquel j'étais confronté car ce problème a disparu suite à la mise à jour logicielle d'après (désormais sous Mavericks).

  • Problems with Refresh / Deleting Tracks and Album ...

There are times when refreshing the Music Player library either won't complete (eg: after you've dropped the phone popping out the battery in the middle of a refresh .. or is that just me?) or deleted tracks and album art won't disappear from the Music library after a refresh.
These problems are often down to corruption of the library and  the only thing to do is to delete the library files and start over.  Even a hard reset of the phone won't fix this as the files are stored on the card / mass memory.
    To delete the library files:
    - Ensure you can see hidden files in Windows Explorer:
Windows Explorer .. Tools .. Folder Options .. View
Select "Show hidden files and folders"
    - Connect the phone to your PC using the USB cable in "Data transfer" mode
    - Find and rename (or delete if you're really brave) files with names like:
    E:\private\101FFC31\mpxv1.mpd
    E:\private\101FFC31\pcv5.mpd
    E:\private\101ffca9\harvesterdb.dat
(assuming the phone's mass memory / card has been connected as E
Note that the folder names may be different and the files may have prefixes - eg: mpxv1.mpd could be called abcmpxv1.mpd.  Basically, you need to search under the Private folder for any files that look similar.
If you rename files - eg: by adding a ".o" to the end of the name - instead of deleting them, you can always just change the name back if you find you need those files back.
    - Refresh the Music Player library
This will take longer than normal as it's a complete refresh, but it should now work.

    Hi,
What version of Workspace Manager are you using ? I tested this with 9.2.0.4 and everything worked as expected. I was unable to update the row from the WK2 workspace after refreshing it.
Please note that after removing WK1, all locks that had been held by the WK1 workspace are dropped. So, when you update the row for a second time, you are actually locking the row that had been merged(which is contained in the TOP workspace) and not the row from the LIVE workspace. So any workspace that references the row from the LIVE workspace, and not the one from the TOP workspace, would be able to update the row.
This is the case that exists before refreshing WK2. However, after refreshing WK2, it will then use the row from the TOP workspace. Since this row is locked it would be unable update the row.

  • How do I delete tracks in my itunes library?

I accidently downloaded an album more than once into my itumes library.  How do I delete tracks or complete albums that I no longer want?  I click the delete key on the keyboard, but that does not work.  There is no DELETE choice available under File and Edit in Itunes.

    Hey Dana from Seattle,
Thanks for the question. Are you attempting to delete the content from the “Songs” view in iTunes? You’ll need to switch to this view to delete content:
How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5772
    Mac or PC
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. From the Library pop-up menu, choose Music.
    3. Click Songs in the navigation bar.
    4. Click the song you want to delete.
    5. Press Delete on your keyboard.
In iTunes 11 or later, the album cover art will remain visible, but a Download icon will appear on it to allow you to download the item again (in countries that support this).
Note: If you didn't purchase a song from the iTunes Store, you can't download it again for free from iTunes in the Cloud. You might want to back it up somewhere on your computer.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • How do I delet tracks in iTunes 9

I have just downloaded iTunes 9 and now I cannot seem to be able to delet tracks. The "delete" option has disappeared from the right click menu and is greyed out in the edit menu at the top. Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks.

I have re-installed iTunes and (after a couple of attempts) it seems to have sorted the problem out.

  • How to delete tracks from iOS device?

    Hello!
Could somebody help me with a problem?
How can I delete tracks, stored in my device memory (im usuing iPhone 4) when itunes match mode turned on?
"Swipe to delete" on tracks/artist doesn't work. So the swipe works only when itunes match mode if off and its very uncomfortable to switch off itunes match everytime if I just wand to delete few albums!

There is actually a simple solution but you have to delete all of the music thats on the device you cant get rid of the tracks individually go to setting->general->usage under storage find music swipe to delete, clears any music stored from itunes match

  • How do I delete tracks in iTunes 11.0?

I used to be able to delete tracks in previous versions of iTunes.
iTunes 11.0 does not permit me to delete tracks either via keyboard interaction or via right-click menu.
I can navigate to the tracks that I want to remove and delete the source files, but then the track details remain in the playlists.

How are you trying to delete? Highlight the song in the library and press the delete key, that works for me. Alternatively right click on the song (ctrl - click if using a single button mouse) and choose Delete from the menu. To delete a song from a playlist hold down the option (⌥ ) key and press delete.

  • Deleting tracks from zen mi

I have deleted tracks and albums from both the player and the mediasource, yet when I put it on 'random play all' the deleted tracks still play! Am I doing something wrong? I can't see what else I can do to get rid of these!
    Please help!

Are you deleting the track from the Now Playing section? That will only delete the track listing in that section and not the actual file. If you need to delete the audio file from the player, you should go to the 'All Tracks' section in Music Library and delete from there.

  • My Creative zen x-fi keeps freezing when trying to delete tracks.

AMy Creative zen x-fi keeps freezing when trying to delete tracks.> Hi. Was hoping someone could help me. I brought a creative zen x-fi and half of the times i tried to delete a track or album it would freeze, i'd reset it and the track or album was not deleted. I sent it back and brought a new one however my new one does the same except more, about 8 out of 0 times when i try to delete a track or album it freezes. It doesn't seem to have any problems deleting anything else e.g photos, videos. I looked on the support section of the site and it mentioned that the player could keep freezing if there were corrupted files. Pleae could someone tell me what exactly this mean? (i'm a bit of an amateur when it comes to things like this ) All the music on my player is from ripped cds or what was already on the laptop or player to begin with, so could there be any corrupted files from those?

    Nvm,the cleanup works Thanks man

I have problems to delete tracks from the harddisk. In the paste I had the possiblity to choice between different options when I use the key "delete" in the iTunes library. Now I can only delete (no further options) from the library and don't know what happens. Is the music deleted from the harddisk or not? If not where can I find it and how can I get back the menu with the different "delete options" ?

  • Problems deleting tracks

I have a new problem that I can not solve in iTunes 6.0.2. For no apparent reason I can not any longer delete tracks. I mark them and press backspace to remove them. Instead of dialogue boxes, nothing happens. Restart of iTunes and of Mac does not help.
    Anyone else? Any ideas?
    Best regards,
    Johan

When deleting a track, you should get at least one warning.
The first one is something like "Are you sure you want to remove etc.....".
Once this warning is disabled by ticking the checbox "don't ask me again", it can only be enabled again by trashing the iTunes preferences (com.apple.iTunes.plist in ~/Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences)
You should always get the second warning (Cancel - Keep Files - Move to Trash).
If you don't get any warning at all, try if deleting the preferences file fixes it.

  • Problems deleting tracks from itunes

I have a Mac, Iphone and Ipad. I have problems deleting tracks from iTunes. The issue I have is that tracks keep coming back. The issue goes something like this:
I delete a track from iTunes. I sync with an IOS device. On sync, iTunes says there are purchased items on the IOS device not present in your library, do you want to import them? I select no, then iTunes imports the tracks anyway! Essentially the track I deleted from iTunes, gets imported back in from an IOS device, every time.
This means I face the situation of having to delete tracks from all 3 devices, to stop them coming back. Am I doing something wrong?

There is a way to do this, kindof. See my post here.
The best way to do this if you want to be able to continue updating the Apple TV with new content would be to buy an external hard disk and keep all your movies (and the secondary library itself) on that disk. Then, when you want to add movies to the Apple TV, you would just connect the external disk, open the secondary library in iTunes, and add the movie into iTunes. The setting here that you need to be aware of is the "Copy to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" setting in iTunes Preferences > Advanced General. So long as this setting is on, any movie file that you add to the secondary library will automatically be copied by iTunes to your external drive. Once you're done syncing the Apple TV, and you verify that the movie file did in fact get copied to the external disk, you can delete the copy from the hard drive in your computer.

  • Deleting Tracks Through Zen Micro Organi

I used Zen Micro Organizer to delete duplicate tracks from the player but although the tracks were deleted in the organizer, they remain on the Zen Micro player. I tried using the synch feature but it says there are no tracks to transfer. Deleting tracks one-by-one on the player itself is tedious. How can I mark and delete the duplicate tracks off the player using Zen Micro Organizer?

  • Deleting Tracks from the IP 4G

I saw a discussion a while back which said there was no way to delete tracks from the i pod 4g unless you did it through itunes. Is this the case? I cannot find a way to do it, but then my "hd" and it's "ram" isn't what it used to be, if you know what I mean.

*I saw a discussion a while back which said there was no way to delete tracks from the i pod 4g unless you did it through itunes. Is this the case*
    That is correct
*I cannot find a way to do it*
How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
If you are updating automatically (syncing) all songs and playlists then delete the files from the iTunes library. In the iTunes Library highlight the file and press the delete key on your keyboard. If you're updating the iPod from a selected playlist delete the song from the playlist and it will remain in the library.
To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Then press the delete key. Next time you connect they will deleted automatically from your iPod.
If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and when it shows in the iTunes source list click on the chevron (the little triangle) to the left of the iPod icon This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the usual song list. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and delete directly as above by pressing the delete key on your keyboard.
To summarise, you start by highlighting the song/video/selection in either the iTunes library or on the iPod song list as displayed in iTunes then press the delete key on your keyboard: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod

  • Deleting tracks on the

IS the Zen Micro the only mp3 player available that can delete tracks on the fly using the touchpad? This was one of the major reasons I got it.
Just seems weird that with all other players you can only delete songs off your player by hooking it up to your pc to do it....

I can also do that on my Zen Xtra, either individual songs or entire albums. I assumed it was a normal feature for all players.
