Master/detail in different regions

JDeveloper 11g Release 2 (11.2.4.0)
Hi. I have a very simply setup, with master/detail VO. If I drag the data control onto a page and create a master table/detail table, then all works as expected, with the detail table updating when a different row is selected on the master table.
However, if I have a page and within it 2 regions, one that contains a task flow and page fragment with the master table, and similar for the detail, then although the data gets displayed the detail table doesn't update.
On my region task flows I have the "Share data controls with calling task flow" box checked.
Is there something else required to make this setup work? Maybe I have to specifically force the detail region to refresh?

The regions are working in an independent way - they don't know that the other region is on the same page.
If you want an event in one region to trigger an event in another region you need to implement contextual events Using Contextual Events

Need help with master detail from different datasets

I have xml data from three different datasets that I want to use in a master detail region.
So initially, a list of model codes is displayed. When the user clicks on a specific model, the model inputs appear in the detail region. One of these inputs is a list of map units. I also want a real name description of the map unit to be displayed. It's working for one map code, but not for all of them.
My question is: "How do I get the description to disply for each of the map codes?"

The best way to do this is to use xPath filtering. This http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/data_region/FilterXPath_with_params.html example will give you the general idea.
The example uses a URL variable but there is no need for that if you use a procedure similar to

Obiee 11g - Master/detail : How to initialize details ?

Hi gurus,
I'm using the last version of obiee.
I have a dashboard with master/detail. The master/details are working great when I click on cells.
But I have some "initialization" problems.
- master/detail with a prompt list on the master table
a change on the list won't initialize the detail. I would like to have the detail refreshed with the first row of the master.
- master/detail with different order by on master and detail
the initialization value of the detail does not fit with the first row of the master.
Is it possible to achieve this ?

Thanks for sharing your view . I ,even observe the same 'error' message returining false value at the bottom-left of my browser when set up the Master detail even and clicked my table column to reflect the value in the graph .
But my situation is bit tricky . I can't expose two different views to see if separating the interaction works well or not . In my case I have only 1 report with 4 compound layout(with pivot table(master) and Graph(detail)) having view selector . So this is practically not separable as this incurs loss of other functionalities.
Do you have any suggestion in mind . I tried to see Supportweb and doesn't have any valid bug reported :(

Can I set up a Master-Detail Page with report regions for 2 Detail Tables?

I am just starting to use Application Express.
I have a Table (A) with Master-Detail relationships to two Tables B & C.
I can set up a Master-Detail Page between Table A and Table B, where the records displayed in Table B change when switching between records in Table A. I would like to add Table C to the page and for this to work in the same way.
Is this possible in APEX? (I've tried adding a report region for Table C and making the Region Source dependent on the same ID field as is used by the report region for Table B but I keep getting "No Data Found" for Table C).

Thanks, but the text needs to be on a single master page which every page is assigned to. This is so the text alternates correctly regardless of whether new pages are inserted or moved. If I assigned separate master pages to individual pages and then moved the pages to a different location, the alternating footer text would then fall out of sync. I hope that made sense!

2 different master/detail data sets

Hello. I have created a master/detail dataset for a photo gallery, with customised css. Whenever I tried to use this same spry tool for different purposes, so with different customised css, the photo gallery data set was roped into the new layout. To make the two independent, I tried saving the master/detail css of the photo gallery to an external style sheet - not sure why (I'm new to this), thought it would detach those rules from the default settings. Now when I add a new data set it appears with no css attributes at all. Help much appreciated.

I understand completely the desire to do something that turns out to be really complicated! But therein lies a real goal.
Have you uploaded this to a server, so I can see your code in action (or frozen...as the case may be!)?

Notice that I have pre-pended the #galleryone to every style in this stylesheet. Be sure to leave a space after #galleryone. This focuses specifically on the master/detail in <div id="galleryone">. Make sure this file is loaded after any generic master/detail CSS file. Better yet, make all your galleries specific with IDs (both in the page and in a CSS file).
If I only have small changes to make, I would add the additional styles into the generic stylesheet:

Note that I only made a style selector for the one attribute that changed. All the other attributes will remain the same (font: 100% Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;)
It is possible that styling other than specifically master/detail styling will vary from gallery to gallery.
For instance, if h2 will change from gallery to gallery:

Do this in either your general or your master/detail stylesheet.
Curly brackets are the two keys to the right of the "P" key on the keyboard...shift to get curly brackets.
When you make a secondary stylesheet (named to correspond to its use), you must attach it to your page using the Link icon at the bottom of the CSS Styles Panel. Browse to the file and press the Link radio button. Then your additional styles will show in your stylesheet.

Problem w/ Nested Datasets and Master/Detail regions

Hi, I'm being using spry for a couple of applications and
really love it. This is the first time I've tried to utilize a
nested dataset and I'm having some difficulty loading the nested
data. I'm getting a js 'Object does not support this property or
method' error in IE and a 'Failed to retrieve data set (dsCreds)
for spry:repeat' in FF.
I've tried to map examples to my application but of course
it's slightly different. I have a master/detail region dynamically
generated from a .php file and part of the detail region has the
nested dataset. Maybe (hopefully) it's something obvious. I've
broken out a test case that demonstrates what's happing - If anyone
could take a look I would be extremely grateful!

The dataset name in the NestedDataSet constructor does not go
in quotes.
Try var dsCreds = new Spry.Data.NestedXMLDataSet(dsAgents,
"credentials/cred");
and see if that helps.

How to move elements within the master region of a Master/Detail spry data set?

Hi there,
I am unsure of how to move the different items within the master region of a master/detail spry dataset. The default style is such that if I include 3 or more elements e.g. Thumb, etc., they are stacked vertically :
How do I move them so that they can be positioned differently? The look I am going for is one where the thumb image is positioned to the left while the other items are stacked alongside it so that the end effect for the master region would look like this:

I want master and Detail on different pages, but how?

I don't know how to do a search for this question, and I've exhausted my time with this....someone please help!!
My site will be an online store, so far selling only one thing, but several different styles of that thing. I have five category pages (silk, satin, lace, etc), many of which have been through different spry layouts trying to find the right one (I've never used Spry, it wasn't covered in class, and I'm floundering). Each category page has a few styles, each one with an image, price, item number and "more info" link to open the detail page.Basically, what I want is similar to the Master/Detail layout, only I want the detail info to open in its own page, not the same one as the Master info (my category page). After giving up on finding out how to get a data set to cover multiple pages, I tried to run a new "Insert / Spry Data Set" on each detail page, assigning a unique div for each row (the div id being the item number, and the tr being nested within the div)....seems to work, but I lose my column names...they all default to "Column 0, Column 1, etc etc".
The whole point of my trying this Spry thing was to save time....JEESHHH!
I am perfectly willing to put in writing my eternal gratitude for any and all help.

In the absence of an online URL to your site which would allow us to give a tailor made solution, I shall try to explain the procedure to do what you have described.
On the master page have an onlclick event that opens a new page complete with a URL variable. The variable will be used to identify the detail that is required.
On the products page grab the URL variable using SpryURLUtils and use that value to set the XPath to the required detail as per http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/data_region/FilterXPath_with_params.html
A better way is to place the detail in an AP which is hidden until a master entry is clicked on and can be hidden with a close button, similar to a Lightbox. This is easier to program and is more pleasing for the user.
You could also use Alex July's SpryPopUpWidget which can be found here http://linecraft.com/spry-pop-up-dialog/extension.php. I have used this on numerous occasions to house my forms.

How Do I: Bind a YUI Calendar Widget to a Spry Master Detail Region?

Hello All,
Does anyone know how to bind a YUI Calendar widget to a Spry
master detail region? I have the dataset, yui calendar inserted but
no clue how to bind the two so my dataset populates the calendar
(Highlights dates that have a event) and when a date in the
calendar is clicked it shows in the details section.
I have found a tidbit or two via google but they don't deal
with the new yui cs4
widget. I have seen some video on adove tv that touches on
inserting the yui calendar into a spry dataset but not how to bind
the two together...
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

You have to write some code that sets up a select callback on
the YUI side of things, and then set the current row of the data
set that matches that date.
Something like this:

Master / Details Regions with yui Calendar

I have a Calendar of Events that I need to display. I have put a yui Calendar in my Master Region, and need it to control the Details Region. I can get the Details Region to show a single event per day.
Is there a way to let the Details Region show multiple Events if they are scheduled on the same date?
I do not have access to an external web server to post my page to, but here is the code to the Master/Details Region on my site:

Don't know if you got this sorted out already, but I'll add an answer since I looked here when trying to figure this out.
I had the same problem.
You can get this to do what you want in two steps:
1.) Just below the line in your code that reads

add the following code:

2.) Just after the line in your code that reads

add the following code:

Ok, one last step for the code that you've listed here. You should be able to get rid of all the <tr> tags except for the outermost ones. So, it could
look like this:

You can see a working example of this at http://www.coloradogreenline.com/YUISpryCalendar/sprytest6.html. October 13, 2009 has more than one event scheduled. This one doesn't display the data in table format, but you can still it working.

Question of displaying Task Flow Region in Master-Details pattern

We have a master-details page. There is a region on the details pane along with other widgets and the content of that details pane including the region depends on the row selection on the master table list.
The first time page loads with no row selection on master table so this details pane displays nothing. When I select one row on the master table and the details pane and its region can display data of the row in master table properly.
After several selection, I navigate to another page and then go back to this master-details page again, it automatically selects the row which was selected last time. And in the details pane, the region whose content was created basing a task flow call cannot display corresponding data of the default selected row while other widgets in the details pane can display corresponding data properly.
The reason of having this problem is the region's parameter is generated before the selected row is determined. When the task flow call in page definition is parsed, the parameter of this task flow call is created before component binding of the master table. It means when the task flow call is parsed and generating the parameter, the ADF page believes there is no row selection of the master table because the component binding is null at that time.
So my question is how to make the this task flow call for that region create the task flow call parameter after the component binding of the master table? Or is there any way to force a refresh of the region/task-flow-call after the render of response? Or is there anyway to disable this "auto-select" on the master table after navigating to other page?
(My jdev version is JDEVADF_11.1.1.6.0_GENERIC_111205.1733.6192.1 )

The reason we are using master-details patter here is it is designed in that way and the region is displaying the data of a selected row there.
There is no master-details relationship on model layer. But the content of the region is from the result of several other Java API calls which call the task-flow from an external component.

Dynamic action in a report region in a master detail form

I have created a master detail form , in which many validation etc is done ,the MASTER is a FORM and DETAIL is a REPORT
Now I am stuck up with the detail region .i.e report
I have Line Detail where there are ITEMS such as SL NO: ,ITEM_ID , UOM ( Unit of measuremnt ) etc
Now here is where I need help .
Using POP UP LOV i have managed to fetch in LOV for the item "ITEM_ID",--- i can select an item name using the pop up LOV ,
Now all that I want is when I select an item name from the pop up lov , an Item Id is displayed or fetched in that particular place , now i want the corresponding UOM to be diaplayed ( i.e the UOM for that particular Item Id which has been selected by me from the pop up lov ).
In order to resolve this I created a Dynamic action where in I get the UOM . Bt the problem is that the ITEMS displayed for selecting in the WHEN section (
DYNAMIC action
-IDENTIFICATION section
-WHEN section----- items ( here i am not listed with ITEMS of the REPORT region instead ITEMS of the MASTER is available )
-TRUE ACTION section etc is only the
ITEMS of the MASTER region ..

'Next' and 'Previous' buttons in master/detail region

Hi,
I've managed to successfully create a master/detail region
which is basically a very simple photo gallery.
The left column shows the thumbnails, and when I click on
them it shows the full-size version in the right column.
I've been trawling userguides and forums for hours now, and I
just can't work out how I can put a 'next' and 'previous' button
beneath the large image enabling the viewer to move to the next
image.
I'm guessing it might be something to do with setRowNumber,
but I'm just not sure.
I'm pulling my (receding) hair out on this one, so any help
or useful links would be much appreciated!

They make a call to JavaScript, I'm guessing you knew that?
I'm 96.7% JS illiterate, so I'm incapable of explaining it.
You have to download the Spry Framework, unpackage it, look
in the Demos folder, then look in the Gallery folder. Gallery.js, i
think, is where that JS call goes to in order to switch out the
next/prev image.

Image mapping and Master Detail Regions in CS3

Excellent advice to leave a url. I think I am having a similar problem with conceptualizing datasets for utilization with image mapping. I obviously cannot use the Get Schema via the Attach New Data set icon because I have rendered my own Master region. I am working with CS3. I will launch the site and ask for help from the url.

I need help with this. With the phasing out of tabulated layouts for div based layouts I run into quite a few snags attempting to work around deprecation of tags issues. What am I trying to do here:
1. Get my spry menu to drop down in the child table and not the parent table aligned top left.
2. Use image mapping of the thumbnail images in integration with datasets and spry Master/Detail regions, even if hand coded to achieve, for a larger image and data on each thumbnail on an accordion spry widget. I am thinking grid systems for the future of my works and hope to achieve some relative command of grid systems. Without gridlock.

in quotes.
Try var dsCreds = new Spry.Data.NestedXMLDataSet(dsAgents,
"credentials/cred");

Master detail form initial insert issue on details sub-region

Hello,
I created a master detail form with report which should do insertion on master and detail region/subregion.
On insert mode I enter with data master and detail block, when I press "Create" button, insertion happens only on master block (order table) not and on detail block (order_item table).
On EDIT mode it does insertions/updates on master and detail block without problems.
Application Express 4.2.1.00.08
Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0
