Demo Application bugs

I was looking at using some snippets from the Java demo apps,
and found a couple of problems.
#1 -- The app must be used from a base directory. If you are
in a higher director it will throw errors because "this.destFile"
isn't used except when defined; instead, it is continually and
improperly rebuilt from "sourceFile.getName()".
*The old and my corrected "completeFile()" functions are
pasted below.
#2-- using "append" does not seem to work. It seems the
backbone is not updated although it looks like everything else
might be in place for it to work. I haven't yet debugged this.

Thanks for the find.
This is demo code that was written by an intern over the
summer to highlight how Mars can be manipulated and generated using
simple XML tools.
I'll roll in your changes and the next time we release the
demos this should be fixed.
