Demo: From ADF UIX to JSF

Hello,
I am new to most of this. I am running jdev 10.1.3 preview with EA12.
While trying to run the demo described in the article "From ADF UIX to JSF"
found at http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/04-nov/o64jsf.html I got the following errors.

Can anyone tell me how to get past this? Thank you.

One immediate thing: "EA6" is in the tag library namespaces, but you're using EA12.
In general, there've been a lot of changes between EA6 and EA12, but the changed namespace is one simple thing.

  • When will new ADF UIX demo be released?

    Are there any one can tell me when the new ADF UIX demo based on uix 2.2 be released?
    I want to know if we can get databind uix tree component (or other ui components) from ADF data action control which return dataobject and something else.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Daniel,
    Are there any one can tell me when the new ADF UIX
    demo based on uix 2.2 be released?I'm not sure when any sample applications will be released, but there is an ADF UIX tutorial available here:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/collateral/tutorials/9050/adfuix_tut.html
    I want to know if we can get databind uix tree
    component (or other ui components) from ADF data
    action control which return dataobject and something
    else.I'm not sure about the tree component - I'll try to find out whether that is/will be supported. Once your data controls are available in the Data Control Palette, you can bind them to components in your UIX page by:
    1. Selecting the data control that you want to bind.
    2. Selecting a component type from the "Drop As" choice.
    3. Dragging the data control onto the UIX page.
    This process is illustrated in the tutorial above.

  • ADF-UIX- How to populate multiple input fields from an lov?

    Like in Forms Developer where using an LOV we can populate multiple tex input items on selection of a value from the LOV, is it possible for us to do the same in ADF UIX.
    Iam usiing JDeveloper 10.1.2

    Have a look at this previous post:
    Re: Can return messageLovinput more than one value?

  • Should I upgrade to STRUTS, ADF-UIX or to JSF

    My applications still use the older bc4j objects and the trivial page flow manager. I have been looking at upgrading these apps to ADF-UIX and using STRUTS.
    With the flurry of announcements about JSF, should I skip the planned upgrade above and go directly to JSF, if it's stable and complete enough, or wait until it is?
    Thanks for any thoughts on this.
    Steve

    Shay,
    Thanks for the quick response. Your comments on the lack of data binding cleared it up for me. I use data binding in my UIX code right now and plan to use more.
    I will wait on JSF until a version is available with this feature.

  • ADF UIX - Deleting records from expert-query view

    Hi gang
    Does anybody have any suggestions how to do this?
    I'll use the HR schema as an example.
    We have default EOs defined against the departments and employees tables. Those familiar with the HR schema know there is fk between departments and employees, as well as employees to itself (eg. employees to managers).
    We have created a complex VO, with a hierarchical join between employee records, as well as a join to the departments table. To create such a complex VO we have no choice but to create the VO with an "expert-query" as the standard wizard doesn't support hierarchical joins.
    One important fact to note that in the VO create wizard, when you use an "expert-query" you do not select the entities used by the VO; you go straight to the query page and enter the "expert-query". As such no EOs are defined against this type of complex VO.
    The VO output looks something like the following:
    Department Level Employee
    Finance    1     Alexandar Hunold
    Finance    2     Bruce Ernst
    Finance    2     David Austin
    Finance    2     Valli Patabella
    Purchasing 1     Den Rapaely
    Purchasing 2     Alexandar Khoo....and so on.
    We have created a UIX web page displaying this VO as a read-only-table.
    We wish to provide a delete button such that when the user selects a record, we may delete that employee AND all relating employees in a "cascade-delete" fashion. Note that we don’t wish to delete the associated department.
    In implementing this delete button the delete functionality works correctly in the UIX web page by removing the record from the UIX table (assume I've also commited my changes). However a forced requery of the VO shows that the record hasn't really been deleted. I assume this is because the complex VO has no explicitly stated underlying EOs.
    Does somebody have a suggestion on how I can catch the delete operation on the VO, and tell my application to instead delete a particular employee and perform a cascading delete on all other employees?
    Should I create a custom method in the VO row class, to perform the deletes on the database? Or can I force the VO to perform a cascade delete on the employees EO? I just don't know what to do.....?
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    My environment is JDev 9.0.5.2.
    Thanks!
    CM.

    I came across the help topic in JDeveloper 'Making an Association into a Composition' that talks about modifying an association to trigger cascade-delete. Does this help ?

  • ADF UIX technology missing from the list of technologies

    Hi There,
    I am new to JDeveloper and I have been trying to follow the example on building a "Simple ADF UIX User Input Application" at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/adf_uix_userinput_ht/index.html
    Unfortunately, when I get to the point to create the Input Page "MyPage.uix there is nothing to allow me to change the page type to an UIX type.
    I have checked in the "Manage Application" if there was an "ADF UIX" technology, but to my disappointment there was none, therefore I would like to know if I need to download some libraries or plug-ins to add in my JDeveloper IDE (Studio Download (Version 10.1.3, Build 3412)).
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Kamel A.

    Hi,
    if you download JDeveloper 10.1.2 all the UIX technology components will be there.
    ADF Faces is the next generation (or implementation) of UIX. JDeveloper 10.1.3 EA is a non-production version of the new technogy suite in which ADF Faces is the the focal point and not UIX.

  • ADF UIX programatic data binding

    Oracle ADF UIX Developer's Guide mentions the possibility to use the UIX framework in Java, to create new objects or alter the existing ones.
    E.g. we can create a table using a construct like:
    TableLayoutBean tlb = new TableLayoutBean();
    The same document demonstrates the data binding:
    BoundValue rows = new DataBoundValue(_YOUR_NAMESPACE, YOURNAME, "rows");
    tlb.setIndexedNodeList(new DataObjectListNodeList(rows));
    For "simple" attributes using DataObject DataObjectList, etc. the procedure is clear. But what about creating a data bound table or input text:
    <table model="${bindings.EmpView1}" ... >
    <messageTextInput model="${bindings.DeptCode}"/>
    It’s easy to understand that model="${bindings.EmpView1}" or model="${bindings.DeptCode}" are equivalent to multiple attribute bindings (data, validation, read-only, etc.), but it looks that the classes/methods resolving these equivalences and linking the bean to the corresponding DCControlBinding, are not public (or maybe I was not able to find them).
    How can we obtain programmatically, in Java, the same structure as described above (in XML)? The best would be to use the same classes used when the UIX XML document is parsed to create the page description.
    It would be very nice to be able to use a structure like
    tbl.setModel( new JUCtrlRangeBinding(...) );
    txt.setModel( new JUCtrlValueBinding(...) );
    or maybe
    txt.setAttribute( "model", new TextInputModelBoundValue(...) ) etc.
    In JSF we can do something like:
    ValueBinding vb = application.createValueBinding(value);
    component.setValueBinding(attributeName, vb);
    Can we do something similar in UIX?
    Any help will be appreciated,
    thanks,
    Mircea Ionita

    Since the code is already written, it's a pity that we can't use/extend it. I don't like to say it (sorry) but I find this design choice (implement the "model" only into the XML parsing layer) a little bit strange (or maybe I don't understand... ;-) ). We should (or we are supposed to) be able to do in java everything that we can do in XML.
    I would like to find more support/help for the programmatic approach. I have the feeling that you are too focalised on "use-our-state-of-the-art-tools/wizards-to-write-the-code-for-you" and you forgot that this is not suitable for all projects. E.g. our application creates the user interface according to a layout defined by each user. To generate it, we need to use at maximum the extension mechanism and we can't simply relay on "rendered" attribute etc.
    -When should we expect this new UIX release?
    -What about the UIX controller? The Struts controller will replace it?
    -What about the source code of uixexp2-demo.jar (distributed with ADF_UIX_component_guide)?
    -Why while debugging we can't set a method/class breakpoint on UIX classes (to understand the data flow) - the stack is secret?
    Thanks

  • Data Binding in ADF UIX example trouble

    Two related questions:
    From the help example 3. Data Binding in ADF UIX example trouble in JDeveloper on UIX. If this worked I was going to run a small java class that captures the login and passes it as a messagebox with a Welcome login name on the first page, but I can't get past the example and path problems.
    From the example..."
    package yourpackage;
    import java.util.Date;
    public class CurrentDateBean
    public CurrentDateBean() { }
    public String getTime()
    return (new Date()).toString();
    Now, we want to change the page so it uses getTime(). We need to do three things: Tell UIX to data bind the text attribute. Add a <dataScope> to the page to provide data to the content. Write a small "data provider" in Java that can access the bean. First, we'll data bind "text": <text xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui"
    text="${uix.data.currentDate.time}"/>The example has one small change. The value is changed to ${uix.data.currentDate.time}, which is an expression that defines the data. This is shorthand for "get the time property from currentDate." If you tried running this example, you'd see nothing. That iss because we haven't given currentDate to the page, so the databinding failed, and the "text" is left to null. We do this by adding <dataScope> to the page: <dataScope xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui">
    <provider>
    Q#1?? Trying to follow the demo. The method class and method name do not seem to match the names in the above class from the demo. Am I missing a point here, please help.
    <data name="currentDate">
    <method class="yourpackage.DataDemo" method="getCurrentDate"/>
    </data>
    </provider>
    <contents>
    <text text="${uix.data.currentDate.time}"/>
    </contents>
    </dataScope>
    Q#2?? When I try and apply the demo class to my home.uix XML file with
    "<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <page xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/controller"
    xmlns:ui="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui"
    xmlns:data="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui"
    xmlns:ctrl="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/controller"
    xmlns:html="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40" expressionLanguage="el">
    <content>
    <dataScope xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui">
    <provider>
    <!-- start Add DataProviders (<data> elements) here -->
    <data name="currentDate">
    <method class="us.mn.state.dot.apptrack.security.CurrentDateBean" method="getTime()"/>
    </data>
    <!-- end Add DataProviders (<data> elements) here -->
    </provider>
    <contents>
    <text text="${uix.data.currentDate.time}"/>
    <document>
    <metaContainer>"
    I get the following, and I don't know how to make the UIX XML accept the correct path, please help:
    file:/C:/JDeveloper905p/jdev/mywork/ProjTrack/AppTrack/ViewController/public_html/home.uix: Parsing error, line 12, column 97: Could not find class us.mn.state.dot.apptrack.security.CurrentDateBean

    for question 1 the name of the class CurrentDateBean
    actually has nothing to do with the el expression
    uix.data.currentDate.time. The currentDate part of the
    el expression is coming from the method data provider part
    of your page:
    <data name="currentDate">
    <method class="yourpackage.DataDemo"
    method="getCurrentDate"/>
    </data>
    so if you changed the name of the data provider to "foo":
    <data name="foo">
    <method class="yourpackage.DataDemo"
    method="getCurrentDate"/>
    </data>
    your el would look like this:
    uix.data.foo.time
    by the way the uix.data part tells UIX to look for
    a <data> element define in the <provider> section of
    your dataScope.
    For question #2, do you have the java file
    us.mn.state.dot.apptrack.security.CurrentDateBean on
    your classpath and is it compiled? You will get that
    warning if it is not on your classpath.
    Also you are incorrectly interpreting the example. What
    you are doing is trying to reference the actual bean
    object and its getTime() method. What you want to do
    is write a method data provider that returns your
    CurrentDataBean. so uix.data.currentDate would return
    a CurrentDateBean instance object. the .time part of the
    el expression would tell UIX to look for a method named
    getTime() and use that value.
    let me know if you have any more questions.

    Hi Joe,
    Thanks for the reply!!
    As per your instructions i created two classes 1.GetConnection.java and 2.PictureBean.java
    in GetConnection.java i written following code
    package Picture;
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import oracle.adfmf.framework.api.AdfmfJavaUtilities;
    public class GetConncetion {
    public GetConncetion() {
    super();
    protected static Connection conn = null;
    public static Connection getConnection() throws Exception {
    if (conn == null) {
    try {
    // create a database connection
    String Dir = AdfmfJavaUtilities.getDirectoryPathRoot(AdfmfJavaUtilities.ApplicationDirectory);
    String connStr = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@fusion.networks.com:1521:fusion"+Dir+"/DeviceDemo.db" ;
    conn = new SQLite.JDBCDataSource(connStr).getConnection();
    System.out.println("connection*******"+conn);
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    // if the error message is "out of memory",
    // it probably means no database file is found
    System.err.println(e.getMessage());
    return conn;
    and in PictureBean.java the following code i modified..
    package Picture;
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.PreparedStatement;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import oracle.adf.model.datacontrols.device.DeviceManager;
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
    public class PictureBean {
    public PictureBean() {
    super();
    String src;
    private int quality = 25;
    private int destination = DeviceManager.CAMERA_DESTINATIONTYPE_FILE_URI;
    private int source = DeviceManager.CAMERA_SOURCETYPE_PHOTOLIBRARY;
    private boolean allowEdit = false;
    private int encoding = DeviceManager.CAMERA_ENCODINGTYPE_JPEG;

    public void setEncoding(int encoding) {
    this.encoding = encoding;
    public int getEncoding() {

    public void setTargetWidth(int targetWidth) {
    this.targetWidth = targetWidth;
    public int getTargetWidth() {
    return targetWidth;
    public void setTargetHeight(int targetHeight) {
    this.targetHeight = targetHeight;
    public int getTargetHeight() {
    return targetHeight;
    public String GetSource(String result) {
    String src = "";
    if( getDestination() == DeviceManager.CAMERA_DESTINATIONTYPE_DATA_URL ) {

    System.out.println("src value in GetSource is "+src);
    return src;

    src = src + result;
    public String GetSource(){
    return src;
    public boolean savePicture() throws Exception {

    PictureBean pb=new PictureBean();
    String pic= pb.GetSource();
    try{
    Connection conn=GetConncetion.getConnection();

    String insertSQL ="INSERT INTO IMAGE(ID,PIC) VALUES(?,?)";
    PreparedStatement pStmt = conn.prepareStatement(insertSQL);
    pStmt.setInt(1, 1);
    pStmt.setString(2,pic);
    pStmt.execute();
    conn.commit();
    ret = true;
    }catch (SQLException e) {
    System.err.println(e.getMessage());
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.err.println(e.getMessage());
    return ret;
    and i created one button in Result.amx page and in Action Listener i had given #{bindings.savePicture.execute} and deployed into Android mobile.But i am neither getting error nor getting save picture into database.
    while i run PictureBean.java class alone the following exception occurred.

  • ADF UIX Tree Component

    Hi
    I have created ADF UIX Tree Component on my screen and i want to have button expand all / collapse all for my tree .
    Can i create event for expand all / collapse all ADF UIX Tree ?
    If i can ,could you please advise how i should to do ?
    Thanks

    Hi Daniel,
    Are there any one can tell me when the new ADF UIX
    demo based on uix 2.2 be released?I'm not sure when any sample applications will be released, but there is an ADF UIX tutorial available here:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/collateral/tutorials/9050/adfuix_tut.html
    I want to know if we can get databind uix tree
    component (or other ui components) from ADF data
    action control which return dataobject and something
    else.I'm not sure about the tree component - I'll try to find out whether that is/will be supported. Once your data controls are available in the Data Control Palette, you can bind them to components in your UIX page by:
    1. Selecting the data control that you want to bind.
    2. Selecting a component type from the "Drop As" choice.
    3. Dragging the data control onto the UIX page.
    This process is illustrated in the tutorial above.

  • [ADF-UIX] passing selected items to a custom method, how?

    Hi,
    ADF-UIX can be tricky, and im stuck atm building some functionality, I hope
    someone here can point me in a good direction
    I have a multipleSelection table filled with data from a ViewObject. I also
    have 2 MessageChoice components also filled with data from 2 ViewObjects.
    I made a custom method in my AppMod accepting 3 params and dragged that method
    on to a DataAction. And I have a submit button calling the DataAction.
    Now comes the tricky part, how can I pass the selected rows (radiobuttons) and
    the selected items from my MessageChoices to my custom method.
    I know I have to change something in paramNames[0].value but what exactly, specialy
    the multiselect from my table.
    Thanks in advance for any tips :)

    "what's the application module"
    JDev 10.1.3 leverages an Application Development Framework (ADF) that you can learn about here: http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/pdf/B25947_01.pdf
    Specifically, you'll want to look at chapters 2, 4, & 8 in the developer's guide to understand the framework and to understand how to use application modules to call service methods from a JSF page. You can also search this forum as there are other threads discussing this topic, but I'd recommend reviewing the developer guide first.
    This article I also found helpful:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/mostcommon/index.html
    From my (short) experience, I've learned that you can call methods either using a bean or service methods on the Application Module. Since I am using ADF Business Components (BC), I try to implement any methods that interact with the BC's (view objects, etc.) as service methods on the Application Module (AM). If my method needs to purely implement logic related to the UI or Navigation, then I implement a method on a bean. The other case where I implement a method on a bean is if I need to do some pre-processing (i.e., gather info. about the state of the UI) prior to calling a service method on the AM (an example of this can be found in the dev guide related to the tableSelectMany component) - so there are some cases where the bean method will call a method on the AM - but again, if the method will update the model I try to use a method on the AM to accomplish this. Understanding the ADF framework is the first step (see the dev guide), and then I'd recommend looking at the SRDemo and previous posts on this forum.
    Finally, one thing that is really cool - if you define a service method on your AM, it shows up in the data control pallette - you can drag and drop the method on the .jspx page and all of the bindings/wiring is done automatically for you (including handling passing of parameters.)
    hope this helps.

  • UIX and JSF

    Wish you all a very happy new year !!
    Any comparisons between Oracle's UIX and JSF.
    Thanks in advance

    As one of the JSF EG members, and a lead developer on the UIX project at Oracle, I'm pretty sure I can help!
    I think of the currently available version of UIX as an ancestor of JSF - a number of the ideas in JSF originate from work we did at Oracle. JSF also resolves some of the architectural limitations we've encountered as we've moved UIX forward.
    We've publicly committed to moving UIX onto the JSF framework; you can read about the details at:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/collateral/papers/9.0.5.0/adfuix_roadmap/adfuix_roadmap.html
    Some of the features UIX will bring to the JSF table include a large high-level component set, customizable look-and-feels, WYSIWYG development, and declarative XML UI development.
    BTW, just to be thorough, since I've seen this misstated elsewhere, UIX (and the ADF framework in general) are not tied to the Oracle J2EE server, or the Oracle database. They can be deployed to other servers and other databases.

  • How to get edited row values from ADF table?

    JDev 11.
    I have a table which is populated with data from Bean.
    I need to save changes after user make changes in any table cell. InputText is defined for table column component.
    I have defined ValueChangeListener for inputText field and AutoSubmit=true. So when user change value in inputText field, method is called:
    public void SaveMaterial(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
    getSelectedRow();
    SaveMaterial(material);
    This method should call getSelectedRow which take values from selected table row and save them into object:
    private Row getSelectedRow(){
    RichTable table = this.getMaterialTable();
    Iterator selection = table.getSelectedRowKeys().iterator();
    while (selection.hasNext())
    Object key = selection.next();
    table.setRowKey(key);
    Object o = table.getRowData();
    material = (MATERIAL) o;
    System.out.println("Selected Material Desc = "+material.getEnumb());
    return null;
    Problem is that getSelectedRow method doesnt get new (edited) values, old values are still used.
    I have tried to use ActiveButton with same method and it works fine in that case. New values are selected from active row and inserted into object.
    JSF:
    <af:table var="row" rowSelection="single" columnSelection="single"
    value="#{ManageWO.material}" binding="#{ManageWO.materialTable}">
    <af:column sortable="false" headerText="E-number">
    <af:inputText value="#{row.enumb}" valueChangeListener="#{ManageWO.SaveMaterial}" autoSubmit="true"/>
    </af:column>
    <af:column sortable="false" headerText="Description">
    <af:inputText value="#{row.desc}" valueChangeListener="#{ManageWO.SaveMaterial}" autoSubmit="true"/>
    </af:column>
    </af:table>
    <af:activeCommandToolbarButton text="Save" action="#{ManageWO.EditData}"/>
    What is a correct place from where save method should be called to get new (edited) values from ADF table?
    Thanks.

    Did you look into the valueChangeEvent?
    It has oldValue and newValue attributes.
    public void SaveMaterial(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
    Object oldVal = valueChangeEvent.getOldValue();
    Object newVal = valueChangeEvent.getNewValue();
    // check if you see what you are looking for.....
    getSelectedRow();
    SaveMaterial(material);
    }Timo

  • ADF UIX doSelect override with PL/SQL fails to allow insert

    I've been trying to create an ADF-UIX web app for simple insert/update/delete of records to a table.
    The schema simply has 2 tables - master and detail where the detail pk is made up of the master id and a start date:
    CREATE TABLE master (
    id NUMBER NOT NULL,
    name VARCHAR2 (10) NOT NULL,
    CONSTRAINT pk_master
    PRIMARY KEY ( id ));
    CREATE TABLE detail (
    id NUMBER NOT NULL,
    start_date DATE NOT NULL,
    name VARCHAR2 (10) NOT NULL,
    description VARCHAR2 (100),
    CONSTRAINT pk_detail
    PRIMARY KEY ( id, start_date ));
    ALTER TABLE detail ADD CONSTRAINT d_m_fk FOREIGN KEY (id) REFERENCES master(id)
    This works fine when I create it in a similar manner to that described in the "Complete ADF UIX Application ..." tutorial doc.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/tutorials/9050/adfuix_tut.html
    I then tried to override the ADF doSelect and doDML methods as outlined in ADF_BC_StoredProcedures.zip example app allowing me to use PL/SQL stored pkg for dml.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/products/jdev/10g/ADF_BC_StoredProcedures.zip
    On trying to insert a new row my web app now fails with a null pointer exception when I press the Submit button. The app calls doSelect->handleStoredProcSelect which fails to get the value of a column.
    void handleStoredProcSelect() {
    CallableStatement st = null;
    try {
    String stmt = "BEGIN test_api.do_select(?,?,?,?,?); END;";
    DBTransaction tr = getDBTransaction();
    st = tr.createCallableStatement(stmt,1);
    ## This line works, I'm guessing because the value is populated from the master record I've selected in the form ...
    st.setLong(1,getTestId().longValue());
    ##FAILS HERE st.setDate(2,getStartDate().dateValue());
    Update,delete still work ok. And if I run the test app (right click on AppModule and select Test) all works ok.
    I'm not sure why doSelect is called on an insert so I commented out:
    doSelect
    handleStoredProcSelect
    handleStoredProcLock
    compareOldAttrTo
    Web App now lets me insert as expected.
    So finally ....my question is:
    Whilst the app now works does commenting out the doSelect leave me open to problems I haven't thought off
    and if not if you did want to use it how can you allow inserts?
    Any thoughts or similar experiences appreciated ...
