Deploying a simple servlet with creator 2...

i need to generate a simple war file around the below servlet:
import javax.servlet.*;
import java.io.IOException;
public class PrimitiveServlet implements Servlet {
public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
System.out.println("init");
public void service(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response)
throws ServletException, IOException {
System.out.println("service");
public void destroy() {
System.out.println("destroy");
public String getServletInfo() {
return null;
public ServletConfig getServletConfig() {
return null;
i am trying to learn java so a lot of my coding is going to be simple stuff... Is JavaStudio too much program... i generated a war file for this that had 10+ components... plus the server.xml did not look correct - when i deployed the war to glass fish it did not work... all help is appreciated...

I've got a few servlets running alongside my JSC app without problems. They are small basic utilities that do things like fetch file attachments from the database or fetch reports from my report server.
(If the search facility is now working) you could search the forum for "fileupload" and have a look. Somewhere there's a sample servlet that retrieves an uploaded file.
That said, the main focus of JSC is to isolate developers from the nitty gritty side of J2EE and you'll most likely find better tools available in, for example, NetBeans and better skilled people to ask on one of the J2EE forums. I think there's even one called "Servlets." I'm not trying to be rude here -- just pointing out that you may be using the wrong tool for the job and may be asking the wrong people about it ;)

  • Unable to deploy a simple servlet using WAR file on Oracle9iAS v9.0.3

    Hi All,
    I am facing problem while deploying a simple servlet using WAR file on Oracle 9i App Server.
    I have installed Oracle9iAS J2EE and Web Cache v9.0.3 on Windows 2000 server.
    It includes:
         - Oracle HTTP Server
         - Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE
         - Oracle9iAS Web Cache
         - Oracle Enterprise Manager
    The release of installed Oracle9iAS is Release 2 (9.0.3)
    I referred following link to Deploy Applications Using WAR file:
         http://otn.oracle.com/products/ias/daily/sept12.html
    As mentioned in this documentation I have followed following steps to deploy WAR file:
    1] I have created a war file by name SimpleServlet.war. In SimpleServlet.war, there is a servlet by name Simple which prints time at which servlet was accessed.
    2] I have modified <ora9ias_home>\j2ee\home\config\application.xml and added following web module entry:
         <web-module id="SimpleServlet" path="../../home/applications/SimpleServlet.war" />
    3] To make this module accessible from over the web, I have modified file
         <ora9ias_home>\j2ee\home\config\default-web-site.xml and added following entry:
         <web-app application="SimpleServlet" name="SimpleServlet" root="/SimpleServlet"/>
    4] I saved both the files and started Oracle HTTP Server and accessed page as below:
              http://<server>:7777/SimpleServlet/Simple
    where Simple is servlet in SimpleServlet.war file.
    In the browser, The page cannot be found is shown to user. I have verified that SimpleServlet.war is extracted to SimpleServlet folder under <ora9ias_home>\j2ee\home\applications folder. I found that Simple.class is stored under WEB-INF/classes folder and web.xml contains correct entry for url pattern for servlet Simple.
    What else could be the problem? Am I placing the war file in wrong place or modifying application.xml or default-web-site.xml in a wrong directory?
    This is very urgent. Please help me with your valuable comments on this.
    Thanks in advance.

    SandeshHave you restarted you http server and then tried to load it again? Are you using the right port; maybe you have to use port 7778? Check you server settings in the http server instance. Also check your url binding of you application at Farm > Application Server: infrastructurehost > OC4J_instance > Application: appname > Web Module: modulename
    Good luck!

  • Security Exception deploying to App Server with Creator

    I'm trying to deploy a Spring/Hibernate application to the default app server with creator. I'm getting an exception which seems to be related to security settings on the server and the cglib library that Hibernate requires. Below is the full stack trace. Does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem? I had a brief look at the server.policy file but don't know what to modify or if I need to modify it at all.
    When I deploy the .war to Tomcat, I do not receive this exception.
    Thanks!

    Please press Submit Press Me!
    But when I click the button "Press Me!", it says:
    "The requested resource (/HelloWorldApp/HelloWorld) is not available."
    What should I do to correct the problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, you need to add a servlet -mapping element and adjust your form to submit to the appropriate URL mapping.
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>HelloWorldServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/servlet/Hello</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>

  • Deploying simple servlet on WebLogic

              Hi,
              I have created a simple servlet which reads
              a few things from Oracle database and displays

              I am trying to deploy it on WebLogic 7 (or 5.1).
              How do I do it ?
              Do I have to go through Portlet and all that complexity ?
              Sorry, never used Weblogic before.

  • How can i deploy a servlet with eclispe

    Hello,
    will any one of u give me the steps to deploy a servlet with eclipse on portal server(J2EE Engine),
    in help of eclipse they given as, whole webapplication deployement, but that is also giving me a error, the procedure they given is, once we created a .war file for our servlet project we need to refer this to a .Ear file, and then this Ear can be deployed in to the server. Is it the same and only procedure to deploy a servlet with eclipse, or if there is any other method,please give me the steps also.
    when i am deploying with the .Ear file, it is giving the error as,
    Jun 4, 2005 11:34:31 AM /userOut/deploy (com.sap.ide.eclipse.sdm.threading.DeployThreadManager) [Thread[Deploy Thread,5,main]] ERROR:
    [001]Deployment aborted
    Deployment exception : Cannot determine sdm host (is empty). Please configure your engine/sdm correctly !
    but the sdm is working on the server with the same host, and local deployement is also done successfully, but from my system im not able to deploy!
    Thanks&Regards,
    Sireesha.

    Yeah, i am able to see the J2EE engine clusters, there the message server port is given as 3601. becoz scs instance number is 1 here. so it is not the problem,
    the error it is giving as,
    Jun 6, 2005 11:37:28 AM /userOut/deploy (com.sap.ide.eclipse.sdm.threading.DeployThreadManager) [Thread[Deploy Thread,5,main]] ERROR:

    Deployment exception : Server obtdev9 did not accept login request as apiadmin on port 50018 - CmdXmlFactory could not find Top Element within String: "null".
    Inner exception was :
    Server obtdev9 did not accept login request as apiadmin on port 50018 - CmdXmlFactory could not find Top Element within String: "null".
    is this may be the problem with port number?
    i am not knowing what is happening here...
    if you know the exact error based on the error messgae please help me,

  • Deployment of simple JSP to Oracle Servlet Engine

    Hi
    Anyone there tried to deploy a simple JSP running against OSE.
    Please advice where can I get more information for this.
    Thanks

    Yes I have tried it with simple examples like data access and calling EJB. In-session EJB calls do not work but if your JSP is deployed in another Oracle JVM like 9iAS then EJB calls work.
    There are two manuals you can refer:
    JSP Developers guide at http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/java.817/a83720/toc.htm
    AND
    Java Tools reference guide at http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/java.817/a83727/toc.htm
    null

  • Can I deploy a war file with the mixture of JSP and servlet?

    I have a project, which the JSP has been created for view page, and the servlet was created to retrieve the database, but we have trouble to pass the session variable from servlet back to JSP, it is NULL, with different session ID.
    Now, I try to add the servlet into the same JSP project, and deploy them as one war file, so, it will be called under the same subdirectory (Tomcat).
    It failed to call the servlet, with the error message
    Servlet FirstServlet is not available
    I wonder whether this is valid, if it is, what I may lost, if it is not, how to pass the session variable between them.
    Thanks.

    I double checked the web.xml file, the FirstServlet was defined as servlet class, and the FirstServlet class was found under WEB-INF/classes/FirstServletPackage directory.
    Here it is the web.xml file
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <web-app version="2.5" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd">

    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>index.jsp</welcome-file>

  • Servlet with Database Access!!!

    Hi !!!!
    I have deployed HelloServlet with Oracle Application Server 4.0.8.1.
    Now I want to connect from Servlet to Oracle8i 8.1.5.
    But, when I try to deploy a Servlet with Database Access, I receive the next:
    "Get operation not allowed"
    The URL used is:
    http://host.domain:port/virtual_path/class_name
    The servlet was compiled using the Sun's jdk from command line. There wasn't compilation errors.
    I run a simple application with database access from command line without problems.
    The drivers and JDBC libraries are operating for this simple application.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Sergio

    If you are running OAS 4.0.8.1 and Oracle 8.1.5 on the same machine then this could be the problem. These products are not certified to run on the same machine as they give a path conflict.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to integrate a different application server with Creator

    It's not love at first sight, but I think i'm gonna fall in love with creator. my question is, is it possible to use/integrate a different application server into creator instead of Sun's Application Server. I prefer to use Jonas

    Alexis, thanks for your help -
    The following was taken from the JRUN logs right after trying to deploy a sample Creator project called teta -
    It works fine with the APP server provided with Creator.

  • How to Run a simple servlet "HelloWorld.java" in JBoss 3.0 ?

    Dear all,
    I am a beginner and I want to run a simple "HelloWorld.java" servlet .
    I need to use JBoss 3.0 .
    After I run this simple servlet, I need to use EJB-Servlet-JSP to implement MVC .
    I have the servlet code and I am able to compile it.
    But I dont know how to proceed as to where to put the class files , where do I specify an alias for my servlet and what modifications I need in Web.xml,Jboss.xml,Application.xml ?
    I do not anything about tools like Ant or Xdoclet so need to proceed without them.Please alos let me know where I can fond complete info about Ant and Xdoclet .
    Thanx in Advance,
    Sujith

    I am not sure of the JBoss package that you are using. If you are using the JBoss-Tomcat package, here's the solution. Create either a .war file or create a directory with the name <your-webapp>.war under <jboss-root>/server/default/deploy. If you are creating a war file, you have to place that war file in the same directory. JBoss-Tomcat will keep looking at this directory for new files or updates to files and deploys/re-deploys as required.
    The contents of the war file should be something like this.
    WEB-INF - directory
    WEB-INF/classes - your servlet classes
    WEB-INF.web.xml - your configuration. Here you can specify the servlet name, class and URI mapping.
    Now, you can call your servlet using the browser in this way: http://localhost:8080/<your-webapp>/servlet/<servlet-alias>. Here the <your-webapp> is the prefix of the .war file.
    Resources:
    Ant - http://jakarta.apache.org/ant/
    Xdoclet - http://xdoclet.sourceforge.net/
