Deploying a TopLink based app in a 9iAS cluster

Hi,
I need to deploy J2EE application written using TopLink in Oracle 9iAS clusters. The software versions I am using are:
9iAS 9.0.3 or 9.0.4 (to be decided)
TopLink 9.0.3.4
One customer has 2 RHES 2.1 app servers and another has 3 Solaris 8 on SPARC app servers.
I think I will need to use TopLink's distributed cache synchronization feature to keep the caches on the different app servers consistent.
Has anyone used TopLink with a 9iAS cluster? Any gotchas or recommendations?
What is the best clustering service to use for distributed cache synchronization? RMIClusteringService, RMIJNDIClusteringService or JMSClusteringService. From what I have read it seems that using JMS would not work very well with 9iAS 9.0.3 because the only JMS that 9.0.3 supports is based on Oracle AQ in the database, which I would expect not to perform very well in this situation. Would the new lightweight JMS implementation in 9.0.4 be any better? Am I correct in thinking that I would need an dedicated OC4J instance just for JMS?
Thanks,
Francis

          Tron,
          Check out the document at $(WL_HOME)/doc/index.html. It has a section titled "Modify
          a Resource Adapter for Deployment in the WebLogic Server Environment", which specifically
          talks about how to make an existing resource adapter work under WLS.
          As for the weblogic-xxx.xml, you can take the one in BlackBoxNoTx.rar and modify
          it for you resource adapter. For the beans, take a look at the one under $(WL_HOME)/samples/connector/ejb/basic/beanManaged.
          Hope it helps.

  • Deploying Qt 4.7 app for Symbian to N8 - Bollucks

    I'm a bit aggravated, I'll try to take this step by step
    I wrote an app.  A Qt Mobile 4.7.1 based app.  I got it signed and certed for some N8 phone testing, but have yet to test it on a real phone.  The problem begins here, so let's start at the beginning:
    I was using the Qt Creator stock download, but at the suggestion of this article: http://labs.qt.nokia.com/2010/10/18/qt-4-7-for-symbian3-developer-version-available/, I am now using the open-source version of Qt Creator for the Windows platform.  It's nicer, at least so far.
    Things I'm angry about 1:  I use a Mac; Macs are awesome (laptop). The Mac Qt Creator "Qt Simulator" crashes every time I run the app.  From what I read, this has something to do with a fight over video card memory.  I also use VMWare.  VMWare only recognizes the N8 phone as a camera, but fails to go past that.  Bollucks.
    I proceed to write my app.  I run the "Qt Simulator", and my app (eventually) works.
    Things I'm angry about 2:  I love Android.  I love the blogs about it (not the documentation), I love it's native kinetic scrolling and pinch-zoom; but mostly, I love it's get-up-and-go attitude.  Droid really does Do.  When I Google questions regarding Qt, I get blog posts from 2005!  If I hadn't discovered Qt Labs, I would be angrier.
    My app now needs to be phone tested.  I want to see it working on a phone, damn it.  I give the Mac SDK another chance, - I'm tired of coding in VMWare.
    Things I'm angry about 3:  Unless I'm mistaken, you can't deploy an app to an N8 from the Mac Qt Creator SDK.  Why can't I find any documentation on this?  Why is there an SDK if if doesn't work and doesn't deploy?  Beta or not, bollucks.
    I am home for the holidays, and now using my parent's laptop (dear God, let Windows die).  I install all the necessary components, and plug the N8 in.  It installs everything itself (really!  happy happy joy joy), and all the Ovi junk it needs to.  I follow one of the many (kidding) tutorials about installing TRK, Qt, and Qt Mobility to the N8; these allow me to deploy code ot the phone (this should just be installed already, Nokia...hint hint) TRK installs fine.  Qt Mobility installs fine.  Qt does not. I get that PIPS error.   I realize (or at least I think I realize) that the N8 comes with Qt 4.6.something.  My realization doesn't help me get the app working.
    I try to install a stock Qt Creator app (a very ugly, but use-case TreeView based app).  It works.  Great.  Let's try mine.  I get about 5 bazillion errors.   I then followed the link (way up top) tutorial, but now I'm just getting missing file errors and out-of-memory errors (the former due to a probable directory placement issue).
    Where I'm going with this:  Why can't I install my app to the damned phone?!  Why is documentation so scattered around?  Oh, the humanity.  (ok, that was mostly for dramatic effect).

    It is not a matter of uninstalling. It is a matter of Nokia getting it right! See Posts #3 and #4. Qt 4.7.2 is the only Qt I know that will not crash my apps.
    And Qt 4.6.3 certificates have already expired and some component dependecies that installed in Qt 4.7.2 cannot be overwritten by Qt 4.6.3.
    So do I say, I get rid of these apps? I don't think any sane person would kill essentials apps and downgrade to a Qt version that is old and not usable for their purpose.
    Hence, your solution to uninstall/overwrite is kind of insane. Do you want to uninstall/overwrite everytime you need to install something? Or do you want Nokia to push a Smart Installer that will work with their latest versions of Qt that they have been pushing?
    If Nokia wants to live, they need to get Qt right.
    So please... since they are pushing Qt out to these 3rd party developers, and more and more Qt apps are showing up at the Ovi Store, they have to make sure their support system, including Smart Installer that does all the installation is 100% fool proof, not 100% fools!
    Thanks for your comments and suggestions. They don't work but kudos for trying. The solution is not to have a temporary "mickey mouse" solution but a correct one from Nokia!

    Sorry. Didn't see that part. Anyway, even if you can't uninstall it, I don't see why you cant try overwriting it. Install it again.

  • Connection SQLite with Flex Web Based App??

    Hi! I have a problem, I create a Flex Web Based App in Flash Builder 4 and I need connect that app with my SQLite database... but I can't found the method that permit me create that connection.
    My question is... exist some method or some kind of code with I can do the connection?
    Can someone help me, please?

    SQLLite is only available in AIR apps.
    The preferred method for a web-app is to use some kind service architecture to expose your data. I wouldn't be able to offer any specific advise without knowing more about your deployment environment.

  • Trouble with deploying a standlone Java app/client that calls an EJB

    Hey guys,
    I am well aware that there are many topics that are quite similar to this topic that I am posting but the fact of the matter is I have failed to procure a satisfactory answer.
    So a bit of background about the environment I am using. I am using Netbeans 5.5 development build, today's version, JDK 6 Build 77, and Sun Application Server 8.2 to create, run and learn J2EE 1.4 based apps following the Sun J2EE 1.4 tutorial pdf and the Netbeans 4.1 tutorial pdf which I realize is a bit outdated but it gets the job done for the most part.
    I have satisfactorily created and built the Converter application as described in the above mentioned tutorial pdfs. For memory refreshment purposes, it is the simple session bean example where it is stateless and remote and has 2 business methods:
    dollarToYen(BigDecimal dollar)
    yenToEuro(BigDecimal yen)So I have this EJB being called, for learning purposes, by both a JSP and a Servlet as well as a standalone Java client. Now since the development machine is where I am deploying and running the enterprise application, everything works without a hitch. Once I have the Application server up and running I am able to access and execute the EJB's methods through JSP and Servlet even from remote machines on my home LAN. I realize that since the JSP and Servlet are in the same application context as that of the EJB I am not requiring the client jar which is where my confusion starts coming in. I know I need the client jar when I try to run the standalone java client from a different machine because it simply cannot access the EJB I have written.
    Now I found this link below and I read it and sorta understand it. I also found that under C:\AppServer\domains\domain1\applications\j2eeapps\ConverterApp I see a file called ConverterAppClient.jar. Is this the so called client jar? If so how do I go about using it?
    Before I end my rather long post, let me detail the steps I used to create the standlone Java client. I selected java application in the new menu of Netbeans and gave it the name ConverterClient and the IDE then proceeded to create a main class for me with a main method where I stuck in the following code:
    try
                Context c = new InitialContext();
                Object remote = c.lookup("ejb/ConverterBean");
                ConverterRemoteHome rv = (ConverterRemoteHome) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(remote, ConverterRemoteHome.class);
                ConverterRemote converter = rv.create();
                BigDecimal param = new BigDecimal(100);
                System.out.println(param + " Dollars are  " + converter.dollarToYen(param) + " Yen.");
                System.out.println(param + " Yen are " + converter.yenToEuro(param) + " Euro.");
            catch (RemoteException ex)
                ex.printStackTrace();
            catch (ClassCastException ex)
                ex.printStackTrace();
            catch (NamingException ex)
                ex.printStackTrace();
            catch (CreateException ex)
                ex.printStackTrace();
        }and that code works when I call it from the same machine that the Application Server is running with the EJB deployed. I also added in the classpath of the client application, the j2ee.jar and the other appserv-rt.jar as well. Have I missed anything?
    I even tried using the deploytool but to no avail as all it generated for me was the same jar file that I found underneath the Application server application directory as I mentioned earlier.
    If anyone is willing to help me, I will upload my Netbeans project files and all you have to do is open it through Netbeans 5.5 to recreate the exact scenario I am talking about.
    Thanks in advance. I apologize for the rather long post but I thought it would be best to provide as much details as was possible.
    Cheers,

  • How to get SSO userid to URL-based app?

    I'm developing a web-app using Struts that will be accessed by Portal (I guess as a URL-based app). The web-app will not require login. The web-app will not be Portal "aware", except that it requires the SSO userid for auditing/logging purposes.
    I know little about Portal and SSO. How can Portal be configured to send the Portal userid of the logged-in Portal user? Can it send it as a parameter in a GET or POST?
    The version of Portal will be 9.0.2 (or greater).

  • System freezes every time I use a Java based app

    Hi all,
    Very new to all this as I don't really know what to do, where to post or really how to ask about this.
    It started out that I wanted to try to use JAlbum, a program that creates photo albums to share on the web etc..... I upgraded the Java app on my WinXP Pro (service packs and updates in place) to the newest version of Java. I even uninstalled all previous versions of Java, rebooted a couple of times and installed the newer version (j2re-1_4_2_10-windows-i586-p.exe).
    I was instructed to install the JEdit free edit pad type app. The application went smoothly. When I exited the installer my system froze. When I rebooted and started up the .jar file all went well. I created a test file and saved it and then exited the program. System froze up. Started up JAlbum after rebooting, same thing. Program works right but then system freezes up and I have to do a hard reboot.
    I work with 3D stuff all the time (Poser, DAZ Studio) as well as in Photoshop CS so my system is kept up to date for this reason alone. My system is considered very stable my geek friends and so this is very strange as this has NOT ever happened to me in the years I've been using WinXP Pro!!
    Please let me know if there is anything you can suggest, besides reloading up Windows, that's not an option, that's the easy way out and with more thant a hundred programs on board that is not something I relish doing!
    Thanks very much

    I did update my Direct X that I'm embarrassed to admit was out of date. Still froze the system after the reboot trying to run a Java based app. So now I have tried the vaiable solution and set the nVidia video card options to Application Controlled and I'll see what happens.
    I'm going to reboot, again and then run JAlbum and keep my fingers crossed. If that doesn't work then how do I implement the last posters suggestion?? Through the Run dialog (copy/paste and hit OK?)
    Thanks much for your help!

    Yes, you need to have db_owner permissions for the account which you are using to deploy the apps.

  • User Authentication in a folio based App

    Is Entitlement the only method of authenticating an app user in a folio based app? I'm looking to store a SSO id or token for use with the publications not necessarily for downloading additional publications, but for accessing additional content within the publication itself. Like a subscriber only section or advertisement.

    yes. I image what you are looking for is a way to make certain articles in a folio accessible by authentication. The app would call out to a 3rd party authentication module and only when the call comes back as authenticated would it enable viewing of those articles.
    If we were to augment DPS in this fashion, it's pretty far out on the roadmap.

  • Using UIScrollView in a window-based app - IS IT POSSIBLE?

    sorry for noob question but i am very new and only 12 years old so i am very new. I am making an app that involves scrollviews but i want to use window based app so i can use the window setHidden piece of code instead of messing around with view controllers.
    My Question:
    How can I implement a scroll view into the app delegate .m since there is obviously no ViewDidLoad feature. Do I just make the IBOutlet in the .H file but what to do in the .M file to get the "scrollview ScrollEnable:YES" and the CGSize parameters in without causing a massive error?

    I don't know why you'd want to hide your main window, but in any case, a view controller wouldn't prevent you from doing that. View controllers do all kinds of good things behind the scenes and catch lots of useful messages, which is why they're almost always recommended for any full-screen view--even in the simplest possible project (see [Overview|http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/UIKit/Reference /UIViewControllerClass/Reference/Reference.html%23//appleref/occ/cl/UIViewController] in the UIViewController Class Reference). That said, making iOS apps without any view controllers will be an excellent way for you to learn what they do for you, so onward and upward!
    How can I implement a scroll view into the app delegate .m ... Do I just make the IBOutlet in the .H file but what to do in the .M file to get the "scrollview ScrollEnable:YES" and the CGSize parameters ...?
    Yes, assuming a UIScrollView object has been added to MainWindow.xib, make an IBOutlet ivar and @property for your scroll view in the @interface (MyAppDelegate.h) of your app delegate, and connect that outlet to the scroll view in IB. Then add the scroll view to the window and set its properties in the [applicationDidFinishLaunching:|http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documen tation/UIKit/Reference/UIApplicationDelegateProtocol/Reference/Reference.html%23//appleref/doc/uid/TP40006786] method of the @implementation (MyAppDelegate.m). Don't forget to set the [contentSize|http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/UIKit/Refere nce/UIScrollViewClass/Reference/UIScrollView.html%23//appleref/doc/uid/TP40006922] property of the scroll view to the size of the view it will scroll. The view won't scroll unless contentSize is higher and/or wider than the scroll view frame.
    ... there is obviously no ViewDidLoad feature. ...
    There's no reason your app delegate class needs to be a direct subclass of NSObject. It can just as easily be a subclass of UIViewController. In that case you could override viewDidLoad, or any of the other useful view controller methods in the app delegate @implementation. Just change the superclass from NSObject to UIViewController in the first line of the @interface, and connect the 'view' outlet of the app delegate to the scroll view object in IB.

  • Tab bar based app, with 4 tabs each linking to a different navigation menu

    Hi,
    Im new to coding and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem im having. Im trying ot get 4 tabs accross the bottom in a tabbar with each one linking to a navigation page. Im trying to get 5 topics on each navigation page which go into more detail to another page when clicked. so 4 tabs x 5 topics x 5 more detailed topics. I have tried the O'Rilley tutorial and could make a tabbar with 2 tabs. but I cant do 4, can anyone help?
    Thank you all in advance.

    Hi Sunny, and welcome to the Dev Forum!
    If you're using [Elisabeth Robson's tutorial|http://broadcast.oreilly.com/2009/06/tab-bars-and-navigation-bars-t.ht ml], it looks like a nice job (for a different tutorial, please let us know if we can find it online). I generally start with the Tab Bar Application template, since it does almost all the work of setting up the skeleton. But you'll certainly learn more starting with the minimal, Window-based App template, which is the purpose of a tutorial.
    The easiest way to add a new tab is to find the required controller type in the Library and drag it into the tab bar. I think you want a UINavigationController there, so choose that one from the Controllers section of the Library. You can drag the nav controller icon into either window (i.e. the Tab Bar Controller editor window or the xib window). When dragging into the xib window, you can choose the new controller's position by where you drop it in the small icon tree. (Btw, I might have missed this in the tutorial, but make sure the xib window is displaying two columns with a small icon tree to the left. This is done by setting the View Mode switch to the center position). You can also add tabs by opening the Attributes Inspector when the tab bar controller is selected and clicking "+" under the View Controllers table.
    Once you have your additional nav controllers added, build onto each one the same way you did with tab 2. If that's the only place you were stuck, you should be on your way in a few minutes.

  • Deploying a Flex iPad App wirelessly without registering a device's UIUD

    Hi
    Is there any information or step by step guide to building and deploying a Flex iPad app wireless, without registering the device's ID? Is this possible with Flex? We do have an iOS Developer Enterprise Program license. Every set of instructions from a Flex point of view that I have read assume that either 1) The release build will be deployed through iTunes or 2) the release build will be deployed to device who's ID are registered on the Apple dev center. Any help would be appreciated.
    The problem is that when attempting to install the app on a device that is not registered on the apple site, an error occurs stating that the app was unable to download/install.

    Hi Emanuele,
    In your case, SUP would provide the development tools, framework and APIs to easily handle the authentication, synchronization etc. You wouldn't need to define your own synchronization mechanism, it's in the product. Now if the updates are only sent from the server to the mobile devices, this shouldn't be to difficult to handle even without SUP.
    You could easily create REST Web Services using Gateway and then consume them using the mobile devices. You don't want to consume SOAP Web Services using a mobile application, trust me. You could do this using the ICF (Internet Communication Framework) to  achieve this but again it would be easier with Gateway.
    You don't necessarily need SUP or Gateway to create only a simple mobile application. But then if your customer is happy with their first mobile application, they'll want more. And then products such as SUP or Gateway can make the difference. These products prodvide a standard development environment, tools to manage the apps and the users etc. With multiple mobile apps connected to multiple back-ends with more and more users, you'll need a middleware to manage all this and make sure the performance is great.
    Usually people don't use SUP or Gateway for their first mobile application but then they start to see the benefits of mobility and they want more. And then they start to realize the benefits of these products and they understand that a real mobile strategy has to be defined etc.

    Pierre

  • IPhone 5 unable to connect to internet or use web-based apps like Facebook or Tumblr

    About two days ago, shortly after using my iPhone 5 to upload a picture of my son eating a donut to Facebook, I seem to have lost all ability to connect to the internet or update content on web-based apps like Facebook or Tumblr.  I tried to restore my iPhone in iTunes on my computer but could not do that without first turning of "Find My iPhone," in the iCloud section of my settings.  When asked to enter my password to turn off this feature the phone is "unable to connect to iCloud."  It doesn't seem to matter if I'm connected to WiFi or using my cell data - I'm getting a strong signal in either case, but the phone is unable to connect to anything.  I CAN make phone calls and send texts but that's just about it.
    I recently updated to IOS 8.1.1 but it worked fine for several days before this problem started.  Any ideas?

    I reset my network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings) and rejoined my network, and that seemed to fix it. Apps are working on wifi and on data, and I can once again send imessages. Since I couldn't find a similar post very easily, I wanted to post this for whoever needs help with this problem ;D
