Deploying a VS 2005 app using CR XI and ODBC

I apologize if this post is not appropriate for this topic, but it seems to span several topics so I had to pick one. I have Crystal Reports XI Developer Edition, and I have downloaded and installed Release 2 (SP2). I developed a report that uses an ODBC DSN to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database; the report has two parameters that the user inputs. The report runs great on my development machine (Windows XP SP2). What I need to do is make this report available to a user, so my approach is to develop a very simple VB.NET application using Visual Studio 2005 (trying to avoid buying another copy of CR). I took all of the defaults and used the existing report in the app, and the resulting VB.NET app again runs fine on my development machine. I created a Setup project, and I'm using CrystalRedist115_x86.msi to install the Crystal runtime environment on the target machine (I've also tried the following with CrystalReports11_5_NET_2005.msi). All of this seems to install on the target machine with no problems, but when I run the report application I get a Database Login screen. I can't get past this point, as no matter what I enter for the Login ID and password I'm unable to connect to the database. I've checked the ODBC DSN configuration, and everything is the same on both machines. I've tried this on two separate target machines with the same result. Interestingly, I installed the runtime and app on another machine that used to be my development machine but has since had CR uninstalled, and the report runs fine there. Thus I'm not certain where the problem lies.
My questions are these: Am I approaching this correctly? Does the license for Crystal Reports Developer Edition allow this type of distribution? If so, what might I be doing wrong? Why can't the report connect to the database? If the license doesn't allow this type of distribution, what other simple options do I have for distributing a report to users without having to buy multiple copies of CR?

When formatting your column to date/time, pick Date & time, and then pick the letter i in the circle to the right. Then scroll down and pick "No time"

Permissions required to deploy an "SharePoint hosted App" using VS 2013

Hello,
I'm trying to deploy a SharePoint Hosted App to an OnPrem SP2013 server.
When i hit F5 (from VS 2013) i get the below error:
"Error occurred in deployment step 'Uninstall app for SharePoint': The local SharePoint server is not available. Check that the server is running and connected to the SharePoint farm."
I'm added to the Farm Administrators group, site collection admin and to the admin group of the box. But i do not have any db_Owner permissions the the config / content database.
Do I need DB Access to deploy the apps? Please advice.

Yes, you need to have db_owner permissions for the account which you are using to deploy the apps.

Mail.app using multiple identities and outgoing servers, how to map them?

I am using mail account and my main account (gmail) is defined as IMAP on it.
In my gmail settings, all my other mails are forwarded to this e-mail account so I don't need to define my other mails to get those mails (since I get them from my mail account).
When sending an e-mail or replying, I want to use the same identity that the mail was sent to and the same outgoing mail server.
For now, I successfully defined my different identities in my main account (i.e., I added them in the e-mail address field with comma separated values), and I also managed to define different outgoing servers (from account -> outgoing servers). However, my problem is that, I cannot link an identity to an outgoing server. They are all linked to my default mail's outgoing server by default and I have to manually select them every time I sent an e-mail. However what I want is the following:
Let's say that I have 2 identities: id1 and id2 and two outgoing server os1 and os2.
I want the mail.app to select os1 whenever I selected id1 and os2 whenever I select id2.
I want the mail.app to select os2 whenever it decides to use id2 (because the e-mail was sent to id2) and the same for the other os-id pair.
Is this possible? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and do ask if you need more information.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
Also consider deleting and reinstalling the Mail Account in question.

Developing Iphone App using Flash Builder and Flex Air Mobile

I started developing an Iphone app using the trial version of Flash Builder and was pretty impressed with how easy it was, then i hit problems:
Trying to submit my app, I was getting invalid binary, using google i tracked this down to a change in the Apple App Store meaning that all apps needed to have native iphone 5 support, which meant updating to Air SDK 3.7
Updating to AIR SDK 3.7 was a nightmare (mainly as a result of my failure to read the small print)
Once I got SDK 3.7 to work with flash builder / flex mobile i though i was there.
However now i can produce a fast build but everytime i try and produce a standard / production build i get strange errors (air 3.8 does the same).
My Question is - before i actually buy Flash Builder has anybody actually achieved the following:
     Building an Iphone App using:
     Flash Builder 4.7    (running on OSX)
     Flex Mobile 4.6
     Air 3.7
If so how ?

Thanks for your reply, its nice to know its not just me.
the error i got when submitting to the App store where due to native support for IPHONE 5 which is now mandatory (from May 1st), looking around the internet the common soloution seemed to be upgrading to Air 3.7.
The strange erorrs on 3.7 revolve around compiling a standard / production build (fast build works fine)
the error is always the same (snippet shown below):

Mail.app using 80% CPU and won't quit - any ideas?

Hi, I'll try and cut a short story shorter...
I tried to begin using Mail.app last night instead of Entourage and Thunderbird just to see what it was like. Having never used mail.app before, I use the bundled import wizard to retrieve the settings from the Entourage account (POP, wifes ISP account) which seemed to work ok. I didn't test at this point as I have another account (POP again, my gMail) stored on Thunderbird which I also wanted to import.
To import the mailboxs from Thunderbird I copied the relevant folders from the ~\Library...\myprofile\... folder to the desktop and added the .mbox extension. Then used the import wizard 'other' option to bring them in.
All seemed to go ok. I recreated my 'other' account manually and sent/received some test mails etc. then marked everyting in all mailboxes as read.
At this point the laptop went very slow so I checked Activity Viewer - this showed Mail.app hovering between 70% - 80%. I thought this was a bit odd so I tried to Quit Mail, but it just hung. I then force quit and the CPU calms down.
I opened Mail again and it was ok for about 3 minutes until I try to view various mailboxes. Mail is still responsive but the mailboxes are empty! I use the rebuild function and they show the messages again, unless I look at a different one and then go back to the rebuilt mailbox - it's empty again.
Then the CPU/won't quit happened again. CPU is up at the same levels, Mail.app has 7 threads. I thought there may be some indexing going on so I went to bed. I got up this morning to find the G4 fans going crazy and CPU still consuming the CPU?
Any ideas?
I'm thinking I may trash both accounts and rebuild from scratch tonight.

Aside from whatever the problem is here (which I don't really know), you shouldn't add an .mbox extension to mbox files in order to import them into Mail. Mail uses that extension for something else. Also, you'd get better results using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion.

Can I package an app using just html and javascript and not flash ?

I know I can use javascript with adobe air, I made some test and works great, but I'm not sure if my app will work in an iphone after I build the package.

No, that's not supported in this version of PFI. From the Developer Guide: "You cannot write HTML- and JavaScript-based AIR applications for the mobile device profile."

Create iOS app using edge animate and DPS

I was investigating the potential for using edge animate compositions and digital publishing suite to create single edition iOS apps.
After some trial and error I have been able to create a basic iOS app for kids, using EA and DPS. The app was approved and placed in the app store. See the below link:

TS1741 Remote app used to connect and work

I've tried everything listed but it still does not connect. Any ideas?

Itunes recognizes the device when setting up home share, but once I enter the 4 digit code, it does not connect. Everything is current. I've tried ever trick listed here.

I'm trying to deploy a VB 6.0 Report Designer Component (RDC) application using CR 9 on Windows Vista.The installation ends successfully and finally I started my app; all seems to be ok but if I launch a preview or a direct print to a printer (note: this first print/preview works normally) and I wait 2 o 3 minutes all the other attempts fail to print or view a report. It show an error: -2147417848 Method '' of object '' failed.
The app uses the RDC and Active Data; I tested that the problem is encountered when the app calls the 'SetDataSource' method. These are few lines of code:

My Homeshare password is not recognized. It is different from my Apple/iTunes password. I have used it before and I know it is correct. How can I a. get Homeshare to recognize my password or b. change my password?

I believe the issue is with the Apple ID that was used to purchase the App. If you download an App that was purchased under a different Appple ID then all updates will also be linked to the original purchaser's Apple ID. Your Apple ID is the the same ID as your iTunes, iCloud, etc. Some folks use different ID for the different Apple sites. No need for that One ID for all Apple Sites, and if someone else buys an App using their ID and they(you) download that App onto your device and that App requires an update it will ask for the purchasers Apple ID. This happens a lot when folks sell their iPad or give it to someone else and leave some purchased(free) Apps on the iOS device. You cannot change the original ID the App was purchased under. A suggestion would be if someone else has an App that you like but do not want to pay for use their ID or in the future have them gift the App to you.

Web services using Ant, Axis2 and Jdk

I was able to deploy a web service locally using Ant, Axis2 and Jdk. Then I tried to create a stub using the command "%AXIS2_HOME%\bin\WSDL2Java -uri StockQuoteService.wsdl -d adb –o client" which generated an Stub and a handler. Now I have a pblm in creating the client program. Where shld the client pgm be placed and how to run it. Please help.

Anywhere you want. You create a project, since you use ANT you give it its own ANT build file and you put the generated stub classes as part of it like you would your own source files. Then you write the code to actually call the methods of the stub classes.
Note that if you generate class files, it might be better to generate source files in stead and simply compile them as part of your client application code.

Spring 2.0 provides custom support for TopLink Essentials in Tomcat out-of-the-box. You should follow the instructions here: http://static.springframework.org/spring/docs/2.0.x/reference/orm.html#orm-jpa-setup-lcemfb-tomcat
Essentially, Spring provides a custom class loader for Tomcat and doesn't use an agent.
